Does "AirPort Disk" work with RAID arrays?

I currently have a RAID 10 array consisting of four USB hard drives all attached to a USB hub. I use it with three different macs (two leopard, one tiger) and have never had any problems. I know that you can attach multiple USB hard drives to an AirPort Extreme Base Station via a hub, but will it recognize a RAID array and make it available as a single volume over the network?

Why did you ask that question if the device has never appeared as multiple drives?
I understand that the AEBS is NOT a Mac.
(a) Some RAID devices are hardware RAID devices. These devices use several hard drives but appear to the outside world as a single hard drive.
(b) Some devices allow you to install several hard drives and then these must be pieced together into a software RAID and then appear as a single hard drive. OS X has the ability to do this.
If this device operates like the description in (a) it should have no problem connected to the AEBS.

Yes. That is only needed to configure the AirPort Express (AX).

You may have to do that to get Windows to join the wireless network.

The AirPort Extreme fully implements the IEEE 802.11 wireless protocols for a through n and will work with any computer that uses a compliant version of any of those protocols. So, yes it will work with the Lenovo as long as the Lenovo is not doing something strange with wireless.

I believe the HP 2840 can be connected either via Ethernet or USB. If connected to the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) by USB, only the basic printing functions will be shared out; the scanning, faxing, copying features are not supported.
If the AX is configured so that its Ethernet port is enabled, the it may be possible to gain all of the printer's features by connecting it to the AX by Ethernet. In this case, the printer will use its own Print server to share out all of these features.

ACL not working with RAID array

Brand new install of Leopard Server 10.5.1. Have an HFS+ SCSI RAID array attached. I am unable to get ACLs to work using this volume.

Does this mean that the RAID volume is incompatible with ACLs despite being a HFS+ formatted array? Would a fresh install of server fix this?

I tried our old "unimporant" SCSI RAID and it reported:
"Support for access control lists is unknown."
I guess our RAID was formated/initialized ona a pre Intel server, yours too?
But your volume doesn't support a journaled HFS + (easliy changed in Disk Utility)
Better/faster if you get a server hang (takes much less time to "replay" the disk at boot than to wait for fsck to finish on such a large volume).

It might be worth while trying a repartition on the new server beacuse our say:

You haven't got too much data on it yet : Size "4.09 TB" - "3.27 TB" free.
In Tiger you set up the volume to use ACLs in WGM.
In Leopard SA it's a bit bewildering (haven't look at it since before 10.5.2 update though)...

If you are asking if the AEBS can connect to your Stereo using the cables in the AirPort Express Stereo Connection Kit, the answer is No. Only the Airport Express is designed for this purpose.
However, the AEBS is used as the central base station for any number of remote Airport Express units which can use the Airport Express Connection Kit to connect to your stereo.

Yes you should be able to access the wireless network created by the AirPort Express regardless of which version of the Mac OS you are using.

The new Xfinity modem worked for about 11/2 weeks with my Airport Extreem to my iMac then it was 1/2 there and not doing all search or browsing on the internet. Comcast could not help on line or the phone. The Xfinity modem has wireless capabilities but when I hook through Airport all is mixed up or not working. I apologize if this is a dumb question but I'm pretty clueless on wireless
I currently have a Belkin router set up in my apt. It feeds into my mac via wireless but is also connected via a wire, to my roommate's PC.
I am getting an Airport Express since i'd like to stream my music to my speakers wirelessly. However, I can't get rid of the Belkin router since that's how my roomie connects to the internet and my speakers are in a different room than his pc.
Can the Airport use the Belkin's wireless transmission for this purpose? Hopefully I've explained this correctly. So I guess what I'm asking is can the Airport read the wireless signal from the Belkin?

Yes. But, to do that it won't be able to function as a wireless router. But, if you can use the Belkin router from everywhere in your apartment and only want the Airport Express for AirTunes music streaming (versus as part of a wireless distribution system), that's fine.

External disk attached to APE - does Time Machine work with it?

Hi everyone,
I'm interested in getting the AirPort Extreme (802.11n) for a few reasons, but notably to attach an external disk and use it with Time Machine.
I've heard mixed results, however, about whether this is possible or not. After some Google-ing I've discovered this feature was initially not available for the official release of Leopard, but was re-introduced in 2008 sometime as a software update. But after reviewing the product page, it makes no mention to Time Machine and it's ability to backup to external AirPort disks. Only the Time Capsule product page gets this kind of treatment.
So the question is... does Time Machine play nicely with AirPort disks or not? I was hoping you guys would be able to debunk the myths so I can get a straight-forward answer so I can make a decision on if I'll purchase it or not.
And while on the topic... can multiple people use the external AirPort disk at the same time? For example, I currently have a DIR-628 router (which I'll be taking back if Time Machine plays nicely with AirPort disks) and with the silly proprietary software from D-Link, it only lets one computer use it at one time, having each user remember to connect and disconnect each time they want to use it to share files or backup using Time Machine. Not a biggie, but kind of annoying.

True and correct. This is likely because of their misguided SOX interpretation, which they seem to think precludes the addition of features not available at sale time through firmware updates.

To answer the OP, yes, you can. I’ve been backing up my machine to a disk attached to my AEBS since the day the firmware supported it, and it works great for me.
