Does airport express work without an airport card?

hello
the airport card on my 12in powerbook is broken so i use a usb wireless adaptor to connect to the internet with a linksys wireless router. however, i would really really like to use my airport express instead so that i can stream music to my speakers but i haven't been able to set it up properly. the wireless adaptor can see the airport express network, but cannot connect to the internet or speakers. the wireless adaptor works fine with the linksys router and in other public places so i'm beginning to wonder if it is incompatible with airport express.
any suggestions would be appreciated!

This very nearly answers my question as well but let me add my specifics.
I'd like to stream music wirelessly via Rogue Amoeba's Airfoil to audio systems connected to an Airport Express. I have a B/W G3 and a Mini w/o the Airport Card (shortsighted of me) and a wireless router supplied by Verizon for my FIOS. Would a USB wireless device (for both machines) or a PCI wireless card (for the G3) fit the requirements?
If so, do you have any recommendations for manufacturers of Mac-compatible devices?

As you might imagine, without knowing a ton of information about the actual construction of the walls and ceiling of your home.....how many walls and other obstructions would be in the signal path of each device.....and the distance between each device and the AirPort Express.....along with how many users would be online at one time or another and what activities they would be involved in......etc., it's really not possible to accurately predict what type of results you might achieve.
The bottom line with any wireless installation is that you really won't know how effectively it will actually perform until you try it.
My opinion would be that you will likely need to add an additonal AirPort Express to "extend" the wireless more effectively to the bottom floor. But again, the same things apply as above.

  • How can i get my apple id to work without a credit card?

i try to get it to work without a credit card but it wont let me. it is not fair to me.....

If you have an account that previously had a credit card and you're now trying to remove it, see:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts5366
If you are trying to set up an iTunes Store account without a credit card, presuming you only want the free apps take a look here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2534
Read the steps carefully as the order in which you follow them is  critical. Note that you can do this only when creating a new Apple ID. You cannot use an existing ID.
You will of course not be able to get anything other than the free apps without entering in some sort of payment method (credit card, prepaid iTunes card, gift certificate, etc.)
    Regards.

  • Why does Airport card lose AX network connection intermittently??

I'll be working, and then abruptly the Airport card in my iMac G4 loses the AX connection to the Apple network, and can't find any network. My iBook picks it up fine. Then, maybe within a half hour or so, it suddenly finds the AX Apple network again. All the while my iBook is fine. The only difference between these computers is that the iBook has an Airport Extreme card, and the iMac has an Airport card. And, I'm also in the same room as the AX station. iStumbler appears to show a loss of signal when this occurs, but that doesn't explain the iBook working fine.
I looked in the AP mgmt utility, and saw this:
"Deauthenticated with station (iMac mac address) (inactivity)."
    And then:
"Deauthenticated with station (iMac mac address) (received invalid class-3 frame)."
    What is the problem here??
Config: Cable Modem > Belkin F5d7230-4 router > ethernet to AX > wireless to computers
    iBook G4 / iMac G4 / iPod 20GB   Mac OS X (10.4.7)
    iBook G4 / iMac G4 / iPod 20GB   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

I'm looking into that possibility.......have a cordless phone in the office, a PC, cell phones, etc. Will clear them out and recheck. The maddening thing is that the iBook is totally bulletproof even in that environment. Why would the iMac be having these issues, but not the iBook? Is Airport Extreme more robust, or that much better than Airport?
Even now, the iMac shows no network - yet I'm writing this on the iBook right next to it, and it's had no network interruption whatsoever.
Do you have any knowledge of those "error" notations from the syslog? Could they be pointing to anything else?
    Thanks much.....

  • Hi does an ipad 2 3g work without a sim card in it

    Hi
I am thinking of buying an ipad2 but do not know whether to get the 3g version if i do this do i have to have a sim in it for it to work or does it work without
    Thanks

You can use it without a sim - you don't have to sign-up to a 3G contract until if/when you need it (some people get that model as it has a built-in GPS chip which the wifi-only model doesn't, and they never activate 3G on it)

  • Gps doesn't work without a sim card

Does anyone know why GPS on my N900 doesn't work unless my sim card is inserted?
GPS seems to work on all my other Nokias without sim card (although obviusly it takes much much longer to locate me) but on the N900 I don't seem to get a gps fix at all.
    Any help gratefully received.

You might like to look at this thread:
    /t5/Maemo-Devices/A-GPS-not-working-on-N900/m-p/584962/highlight/true#M904
If you change SIM it remembers settings from first one inserted so you may need to go to Settings > Location - disable then enable again.
Sorry without trawling way back through posts, I don't know where you are located, for example "Assisted GPS" won't work with TMO USA.

  • Does Aiport Express work with internal modem and dial up ?

Does Airport Express allow for internet connection if you only have a dial-up account with an internal modem (iBook G4)?
When configuring the Airport Base Station in the Utilitiles/admin section - the only options available are for Ethernet/PPP - the modem options are grey and not selectable.

    Hi,
An AirPort Express is not capable of using its USB port for the connection of a mobile broadband modem.
One possibility would be to combine an AirPort Express with a special adapter (such as this product) with Ethernet output.
Another possible solution would be to use a mobile broadband router (perhaps something similar to this or this) with built-in Wi-Fi, instead of the above combination.
Make sure that the USB mobile broadband modem in question is supported in both cases.

  • Does Air Express Work with other brand Routers?

I just got an Airport Express. I can't seem to get it to work with my Linksys router. Are the supposed to work with other brands, or only Apple?

Since you now have two 802.11n AirPorts, you will want to take advantage of the "extend a network" feature this version offers instead of the 802.11g WDS.
Here's the basic setup to extend the 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) with the AXn ...
o If practical, place the base stations in near proximity to each other during the setup phase. Once done, move them to their desired locations.
o Open AirPort Utility and select the base station that will connect to the Internet.
o Choose Manual Setup from the Base Station menu, or double-click the base station to open the configuration in a separate window. Enter the base station password if necessary.
o Click AirPort in the toolbar, and then click Wireless.
o Choose “Create a wireless network” from the Wireless Mode pop-up menu, and then select the “Allow this network to be extended” checkbox.
o Next, select the base station that will extend this network, and choose Manual Setup from the Base Station menu, or double-click the base station to open its configuration in a separate window. Enter the base station password if necessary.
o Choose “Extend a wireless network” from the Wireless Mode pop-up menu, and then choose the network you want to extend from the Network Name pop-up menu.
o Enter the base station network and base station password is necessary.
o Click Update to update the base station with new network settings.

  • Does Logic Express work with M-Audio Fast Track USB

Hi all, just wondering if logic express 8 works with the m-audio Fast Track USB - http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/FastTrackUSB.html ?

This should probably go in the Logic Express 8 forum. Regardless, I see no reason why it wouldn't be perfectly functional using LE8. Is there a reason why you are opting for a USB device? Does your Mac not have a firewire port?

  • Premiere cs5 mercury engine will it work without any graphic card?

HI there I have core 2quad 6600 processor of 2.4ghz, and intel classic series fb33 motherboard, with only onboard video ram shared with physical ram of 2gb.
I want to install cs5 on 64bit OS and upgrade total ram to 8 gb without buying any graphic cards(right now). Qn is will I be able to edit avchd videos? will the
mercury engine still be enabled? I know its kinda "no budget, want all qn" Right now I dont wanna buy a card as am plannin to buy new system later..
    Thanks
    Gigarigh

Yes, of course, you are correct, Harm.  I was over-simplifying.
I Took the OP's "enabled" to really mean "accelerated", and in that sense, it will not work as without the necessary graphics card there will be no acceleration.
I can certainly support your third paragraph, having just moved from a four-year-old system with a quad 3 GHz processor, 8 GB of RAM and a hacked 460 GTX graphics card, to a Sandy Bridge E system with a 3930 CPU, 32 GB of RAM but the same graphics card and HDD set up (for the moment). Your oft stated "molasses in winter" describes my old system pretty well from my present viewpoint!
The old system coped with the fairly gentle HDV, provided I kept the number of assets down, but threw a hissy fit if I tried 1920 HD, even with the Matrox (I know, I know!) I-frame codec.
    Gigarigh,
You would be better off upgrading along my path - motherboard and processor first, using as much as you can of your old system for now, as this allows much better scope for future upgrading.

  • Does CIFS optimization work without WAFS

    Hi everyone,
Now I am testing WAE in my lab with the following environment.
    Windows 2003 Server
    |
Cisco 2821 with NME-WAE-502-K9 as WAE Core
    |
    |
    NIST Net WAN Emulation Software
    |
    |
Cisco 2821 with NME-WAE-502-K9 as WAE Edge
    |
    PC
    Cisco 2821:
    12.4(9)T3
enabled CEF, WCCP v2 with TCP promiscuous mode service (WCCP services 61 and 62)
    NME-WAE-502-K9:
    4.0.3
    enabled WCCP v2
    NIST Net parameters:
    Bandwidth: 1.5M
    Latency: 300ms
    Packet loss: 0.5%
    Test Tools/Methods on PC:
Cisco WAFS Benchmark Tool for Microsoft Office Application downloaded from CCO
    for CIFS/SMB application
TCP Replay utility downloaded from CCO for HTTP application
    FTP for FTP application
In this environment, I can get good result for HTTP (by using TCP Reply utility) and FTP, that is,
speed for downloading file by HTTP and FTP is improved over WAN (NIST Net).
However I can not see the effectiveness of WAE for CIFS/SMB traffic by using WAFS Benchmark Tool.
I do not configure WAFS (Wide Area File Services), because I can not configure it due to lack of
    DRAM on WAE Core.
2GB DRAM is needed to get WAE Core to be worked as WAFS core cluster but both WAE have
    just 1GB DRAM.
So I am testing how WAE efficiently work for WAFS Benchmark Tool without WAFS.
However the result of testing is not indicating WAE efficiency for WAFS Benchmark Tool.
That is, Speed is not different, in other words Speed does not change so much in the following
    three cases.
    Native WAN:
Remove WCCP v2 configuration from Cisco 2821
Then PC accesses Windows 2003 server by using WAFS Benchmark Tool
    Cache Miss:
Enable WCCP v2 with TCP promiscuous mode service (WCCP services 61 and 62) on Cisco
2821 and WAE and restart WAE to clear any cache information
Then PC accesses Windows 2003 server (it is a first time) by using WAFS Benchmark Tool
    Cache Hit:
In the case of PC has been accesses Windows server in the past
PC accesses Windows 2003 server (it is a second time) by using WAFS Benchmark Tool
And unfortunately, when "wccp cifs-cache" command is configured or not on both WAE,
the result is the same, that is, Speed does not change so much.
I am confusing about optimization for CIFS/SMB traffic.
According to "Default Application Policies" in the Cisco Wide Area Application
    Services Configuration Guide,
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/customer/docs/app_ntwk_services/waas/waas/v403/configuration/guide/apx_apps.html
WAAS, by default, handles CIFS/SMB traffic with LZ, TFO and DRE.
    Classifier: CIFS-non-wafs
    WAAS Action: LZ+TFO+DRE
    Destination Ports: 139, 445
So I was thinking WAE optimize CIFS/SMB traffic even if no WAFS configured...
Do I need to configure WAFS in other words WAFS must be configured to achieve
the effect of WAE for CIFS/SMB traffic ?
    or
Do I need to configure additional command to get WAE work fine for CIFS/SMB traffic
    without WAFS ?
    or
Is my idea wrong ? that is, WAFS Benchmark Tool is not appropriate tool in this
    environment (no WAFS) ?
    Your assistance would be appreciated.
    Best regards,
