Does an SLD upgrade have influences on configured scenario's?
Hi all,
At the moment we are planning an SLD upgrade (central SLD for the environments DEV | QAS | PRD).
Of course, for data-transfer over the PI landscape the SLD is necessary, so at the planned time of the upgrade there will be no transfer of data over the landscape.
However, is it save to say that you can upgrade the SLD, bring the environment back up and every scenario is working fine again?
My opinion is that the answer is yes, but just want to know for sure if I'm not forgetting something?
Thnx in advance for your input!
Hi,
I agree - this should work just fine, at least as long as you're talking about an in-place upgrade, i.e. where no hostnames or ports are affected. Otherwise you would, of course, have to adjust connection parameters in any system accessing the SLD.
Regards,
Thorsten

Does Snow Leopard upgrade have the option to do a clean install?
If you buy the snow leopard upgrade, can you still erase and install over, say 10.4 or 10.5? If I have 10.5 can I wipe it out and just install 10.6 using the upgrade?
yes, you can. boot from the snow leopard dvd, use disk utility to erase the main hard drive and proceed with the install.

Hi, I just updated my mac from version10.6 to 10.9.3 os mavericks. i went to open iPhoto and it says "Your photo library will not be readable by previous versions of iPhoto after the upgrade." does this mean I have lost all photos i had in there? It does not give me a choice, it just says quit or upgrade? p.s. i didn't realise ther was a way to back up my computer beforehand, which i am guessing this is time machine?
1. No, you haven't.
2. Back up the iPhoto library(this can be done through Time Machine or by dragging it to a drive, partition, or disk image formatted as Mac OS Extended) and then click Upgrade.
3. Aside from Time Machine and drag-copying items from your home folder, programs such as the Disk Utility, Carbon Copy Cloner, and SuperDuper can make backups.

I have an Apple Configurator install that wont recognize an iPad when I attach it via USB. I cant prepare it or refresh it. It was supervised. I get an error message that says "policy does not have correct profile data". At some point there was a mismatch between the profile on the iPad and the MAC server. The profile on the MAC server has been deleted and the iPad has been erased and reset to default. I need to be able to get Configurator to recognize this device to prepare it for deployment and issue Apps to it. Please help!!
Run the application 'Terminal.app' which you will find in '/Applications/Utilities' on your Macintosh.
Type this into it: defaults delete com.apple.configurator PreprationSavedPolicyDefaultsKey
Hit the return key.
If you get no error message, it worked, and you can quit the app. -

8.0 to 8.2 upgrade: ¿would it affect configuration and/or licensing?
Hello team:
I am planning the upgrade of an ASA 5550 Active/Passive cluster from 8.0 to 8.2 according to the "zero downtime upgrade" documentation available in the web.
I do not have another cluster for comprehensive testing, but I executed a simple migration procedure on a tiny 5505 and neither licensing features nor the configuration (the command sintax) were affected by this process. I know this is something to care about if you go to 8.3, but this is not my case.
I browsed the release notes of 8.2(5) and no special disclaimer was found by me with respect to this release. So everything should work just fine, but I would like to double check for input with respect to these two subjects:
1. ¿Will the licensed features (vpn, concurrent connections, etc) be preserved?
2. ¿ Will the configuration be preserved ?
Your recommendations will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks a lot in advance.
Rogelio Alvez
ArgentinaAn ASA 8.0 to 8.2 upgrade should not affect configuration or licensing. I have done it many times without any problem. Just follow the published procedure carefully and you will be fine.
While you are working on the boxes, I recommend putting ASDM 6.4(7) on them (if it is not already in use) as it is the recommended version for all 8.x releases. -
Hello Last night while watching a video on Facebook a pop up window said I had a virus and to clean it click on the link. I did so and followed a prompt or 2 and then I thought this was a scam so I stopped. However I looked at my download file and it shows Mackeeper listed 4 times. Does this mean I have installed MacKeeper and if so does this mean I have installed some sort of malware/spyware or problems for my computer hence for myself.
Thank you for your help

I bought a Power Mac G4 (version=3.3) second hand from my company. It is running Mac OS 10.2.8 and Microsoft Office X. I wish to connect it to my BT broadband hub. However, it does not appear to have an AirPort card and even if it did I was told that the BT hub mainly works with microsoft rather than apple products. Can anyone advise me how I can connect and what products I need to buy?
Many thanksJohn Galt wrote:
These are readily available on eBay etc. and are not expensive.
See http://www.airportcardsdirect.com/ these cards are cheap and not sold via DOA-Bay.
John Galt wrote:
The PowerMac3,3 uses the original AirPort 802.11b card. It may also need a card adapter to enable it to mate with the internal connections - I'd have to check on that.
Not true. Those adaptors were intended for the iMac G3 (long outdated) and only the iMac G3. All G4 machines just take AP Cards the way they are.
John Galt wrote:
You should also look into upgrading it to OS X "Tiger" but make sure you get the original retail install CD. It will be black with a large "X". Grey discs are machine specific and will not work.
Actually I HIGHLY recommend upgrading to OS X Leopard. Tiger is no longer supported by hardly anybody (Apple, Adobe, etc) and Leopard is still the minimum for most things nowadays. If you want more life out of this Mac, then I would highly recommend installing Leopard. And as mentioned above you NEED a Retail DVD. (The Leopard DVD has a little Purple in the Center of the DVD and a BLACK X in the center. -
Why does my application icons have a cirle with a slash on them?
why does my application icons have a cirle with a slash on them?
That means those applications cannot be run on your computer.
There are many different reasons why that situation could arise, but without more information all we can do is speculate / guess. For example, you upgraded the OS and the apps will not run in the new OS.
If you need more specific answers.ost back with more information, e.g. what version of Mac OS X? when did this first occur? -
Does the Base Station HAVE to be connected to a computer?
Due to some new wiring in my house, the room where my computer now is is a few rooms away from a phone outlet. I have an Apple Extreme Base Station, and this is my previous my wireless set-up:
DSL phone line goes into router/modem, which is then plugged into the Airport Extreme Base Station. The Base Station is then plugged into the Ethernet port of my G4 (which also has a wireless card).
My question is whether my computer has to be plugged into the Base Station at all, considering that it already has a wireless card? Since the Base Station is already configured, can my computer just get DSL access across the wireless net from a few rooms away via it's wireless card? Or does the Base Station have to be hardwired to a computer in order to properly operate?
Thanks in advance.
- Tom TedeschiNope, hard wiring your computer(s) to the ABS isn't required. In my case, I run a PowerMac, Mac mini and two laptops off one ABS with a cable modem input (range extended with three AirPort Express modules). None of the computers are hardwired to the ABS...all connect wirelessly.

Does Acrobat X Standard have Post Script and Press Quality option, please?
Does Acrobat X Standard have Post Script and Press Quality option, please? Can anybody help please?
The current version is Acrobat XI (not for XP or Vista). Adobe no longer sell Acrobat 9 or 10. So you would be buying in the "aftermarket". Which is fine, except that there are many fraudsters in there, doing things from selling versions that were upgraded (making you in violation of the license) to selling outright fakes, which often don't work at all, or stop when Adobe later blocks fraudulent serial numbers, or in the worst case also sneak malware onto the computer. So take great care selecting a seller. Beware of "too good to be true" prices, but the fraudsters are now wise to this too and may sell at a high price to seem legitimate.

In system preferences, MobileMe shows, but iCloud does not, although I have supposedly set it up on my Mac. iCloud is set up on my iPhone.
The minimum requirement for iCloud is Lion 10.7.5 (Mountain Lion preferred): the iCloud Preference Pane does not appear on earlier systems - the MobileMe pane appears on Lion and earlier but is non non-functional - you cannot now open or access a MobileMe account.
To make use of iCloud you will have to upgrade your Mac to Lion or Mountain Lion, provided it meets the requirements.
The requirements for Lion are:
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
2GB of memory
OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
7GB of available space
To purchase it you will have to ring Apple at the number given at the bottom left of this page.
The requirements for Mountain Lion are listed here:
http://www.apple.com/osx/specs/
It is available from the Mac App Store (in Applications). (If you are currently pre-Snow Leopard you will have to upgrade to that to access the Mac App Store: it's available in the online Apple Store.)
You should be aware that PPC programs (such as AppleWorks) will not run on Lion or above; and some other applications may not be compatible - there is a useful compatibility checklist at http://roaringapps.com/apps:table -

Does 7.3 upgrade cancel 7.2 "Pro" license?
In the past, Quicktime upgrades have cost me my Pro license and another $29.95 to restore Pro status. Does the *7.3 upgrade* cancel the current *Quicktime 7.2 Pro* license?
Apple has never required a new pro license for minor upgrades so you should not have had to pay until a new whole number upgrade. That is, you should not pay for a new license untl QT 8 is released as long as you have paid for a QT 7 pro key.
