Does any version of Final Cut studio support Mpeg4 Editing?
I have Final Cut Studio HD (version in the black box). I'm looking at buying a camera, and the one that seems to be the best fit is the Panasonic TM90. It's best mode is shooting progressive video with the Mpeg4 codec. Does my version support this? Does any version support this?
If you shoot any format OTHER than 1080p60, you use Log and Transfer to bring in the footage. Tutorial:

For 1080p60, you need ClipWrap2 from divergentmedia.com. Because it is a non-standard shooting format.
And no, FCP 7 and earlier do not support editing from that camera without transcoding to ProRes.

Uncompressed HD...that can be done with FCP 4.5 or higher. But as said, you need a capture card, no matter what version you use.
DVCPRO HD support started in FCP 4.5. P2 DVCPRO HD support started with 5.0.4. HDV support started with FCP 5.0, and is much better in FCP 5.1. XDCAM started in FCP 5.0, better in 5.1. AVCHD requires 5.1, and AVCIntra requires FCP 6.

I have an academic version of Final Cut Studio on my laptop and recently purchased the most recent Full version of Final Cut Studio. Do I need to uninstall the academic version before installing the new version? I ask because this is not an upgrade, but a completely new version.
I'm with Jim on this. It always seems to work out better if you do not install over another version. You can use this app (freeware - thanks to Jon Chappel) to completely remove ALL Final Cut Studio apps and components: http://www.digitalrebellion.com/fcsremover/
Once that's done, install your newly purchased version.

Install two versions of final cut studio
Hi, can I Install two different versions of Final Cut Studio, and let them coexist without the previous one being erased? Let's say I have Final Cut Studio installed, and I want to Install Motion 3 that comes with Final Cut Studio 2, but keep the previous versions of the other programes. Is that possible, or the installing of Motion 3 will affect the Final Cut Pro and other applications that I had installed?
You could also do a dual boot system, though on a MacBook Pro, it may not work, due to limitations of single internal system drive.
Not sure what capacity your current system drive has...and you'd really want to think this through before committing.
You'd essentially do a full archive of your current system drive, then a full erase, create 2 partitions with one running FCS1 and the other running FCS2. You'd likely need to place 'extra content' on an external (like for Motion/STPro/DVDSP/LiveType), to keep resources to a minimum on your system drive.
Frankly, I'd be hesitant to go that route, but thought I'd toss it out there.

BTW, Final Cut Studio 2009 was also known as FCS 3. You might be able to find an upgrade version on ebay or craigslist.

If you mean "why" then you will need to go to Apple corporation and speak with the product developer team. If you would like to know how to convert, I found it easiest using Flip Player (deluxe version), about $49 today. Takes about 10 minutes to convert a 400 MB clip for example. Then load the converted file to your editing source folder.

Can't launch ANY of the Final Cut Studio apps
As some of you may have seen, when I was reinstalling all of my old software, I couldn't go to FCP 6.0.4. So I uninstalled Final Cut Studio and got rid of everything the Final cut studio uninstaller didn't get rid of (live type data, etc)
Then I updated to 10.5.5
Then I reinstalled Final Cut Studio and ran software update. Everything updated fine and then I went to launch the programs for the first time and ALL of them say they unexpectedly quit. Should I have launched them once before updating? I DO have all the up-to-date versions this time, but I can't open any of them. I'd hate to have to reinstall all this AGAIN as it takes forever to do so.
Anyone know how to fix this?No, I know that. Sorry I didn't mention it here.
This is what the console is telling me. I had used the Final Cut Studio uninstaller before reinstalling. My copy is an upgrade version, but everything installed and updated OK. They just won't launch

External hard drives are 10x (more or less) faster than CD's/DVD's to read and write too. Is faster to rip a DVD/CD and put it on a hard drive and read/write from that file than it to read and write to a DVD/CD.
DVDs/CDs are old school for holding data and... Apple doesn't use them any more... Not to long you will see and end to DVDs/Cds (blu-ray too). -
Next Version of Final Cut Studio?
I have heard recently about a new version of Final Cut Pro coming out this spring or summer, and am wondering if there is any information about an upgrade for Final Cut Studio as a whole. I am wanting to upgrade my FCS but not until I know more about when the latest and greatest version will be available. Many thanks.

Quicktime Pro does not install with Final Cut Studio
I have an iMac with software version 10.5.7. I installed Final Cut Studio 2 (Final Cut version 6.05). With other similar installations on an iMac, Quicktime Pro came as a normal part of the software. On this iMac, the Pro version of Quicktime did not get installed. Is there a way to `unlock` it? Thanks
Final Cut Studio install should "unlock" the QuickTime Player Pro features.

what is the deal with quicktime 7? I am constantly reading about problems with it. I want to upgrade to Final Cut Pro 5 and quicktime 7, but am afraid to because of all the issues Ive been reading about. There are many different issues... but the common denominator is that they all seem to be related to quicktime 7.
Here is my question:
Is ANYONE out there running final cut studio with the latest version of quicktime 7 with NO Problems? If i get enough yes answers, I may just go ahead and upgrade. If not, Im definitley going to wait until these problems are fixed, or for the next versions to come out. Thanks in advance...i know that fcp 5 requires quicktime 7...right now i have final cut 4.5 hd with quicktime 6.5.2......im just trying to get an idea of how many people have final cut 5 with quictime 7 with no problems, and how many may be having problems. If there are too many people with problems, i was going to wait until the next version of final cut and quicktime come out before i upgrade. I was hoping for a few more responses. i need to know if final cut 5 (final cut studio) will run with leopard os x
While I think that Leopard is a fine new OS, and I love it, I CANNOT RECOMMEND that you install it on a Production machine. There are just too many reports of issues, and really, Leopard adds nothing to the Final Cut Suite. New versions of the OS are notorious for not working with everything...and currently it DOES NOT work with many Adobe products. There are also many third party devices that may need to be checked into, like ATTO cards, eSATA cards, Firewire cards, capture cards....many many things.
If you have a good working machine, stick with Tiger. The new OS is nice and slick, but has YET to get a clean bill of health for any version of Final Cut Studio.
