• Does anyone else's MacBook Pro i5 make a loud harddrive disk startup sound?

Whenever I boot up my MacBook Pro, It makes a loud disk startup sound. Does it happen to anyone else?

I would take it in if the start up sound is different than the other Macbooks you've had.
Too few people here seem to have a new i5 yet and if its a big problem you want
it seen by Apple ASAP if it needs a replacement laptop.
    thats what I would do.

This is a very interesting discussion as I am doing precisely this as well.
I am taking my old home movies, pulling in the 2-hour video and then
splitting it in PE7 (via control-k). I then make individual avi's from it by
deleting all the segments except one, "sharing" the avi, reloading (or
undoing) to get my clips back and deleting all except the next one. its a
tedious business but it works.

Mark

<[email protected]> wrote in message
news:[email protected]..
> Bill, Jarek,
>
> Thanks for the suggestions. I think I had tried Scenalyzer a year or so
> ago, but I'll take another look, as dividing by scene into individual AVIs
> is exactly what I would like to do.
>
> Also, so far all my scene-analyzed content has been projects upgraded from
> PRE4. So maybe if PRE7 actually does the analysis it will put all the
> clips it in the organizer? We'll see... I'll be doing that soon.
>
> So, yes, there are ways around things - and that's good to know. But that
> was kind of my point in this thread: that I wish Adobe would put a little
> more energy into making what they already have work better... saving
> scene-analyzed AVI content as clips but not AVI; allowing keyword tagging
> in one place but not another; allowing gradient-colored fonts but no
> background... these are things you could understand in a V1 product, but
> version 7?
>
> All in all, Premiere is a great product. It's very rare that I haven't
> been able to do *exactly* what I wanted to do. And for the price they
> charge, that's pretty impressive. But the question was whether V7 was
> worth the upgrade price, and for me, it wasn't. Way too much focus on
> "bloatware" and way too little focus on core competencies. IMO!

As you are aware, batteries (no matter what manufacturer) are consumable devices and is only covered for one year (barring any type of abuse). With your purchase date being in 2007, this would not be covered under your AppleCare extended service plan.
Suggest you make an appointment for your local Apple Genius Bar and they can perform a Battery & Adapter test. You can always start the process by contacting AppleCare (1.800.APL.CARE) and log down your case number after you have completed your discussions with them, so when you get to the Genius Bar, it will save you time. At that point they will be able to determine if the battery is defective and commence the replacement process. Include your case number in the notes section of your Genius Bar appointment form. This tests will check your MagSafe adapter and battery at the same time and takes about a couple of minutes if that. Hope this helps guide you through the process.
    Cheers,
    Pete

  • Is there something wrong with my battery?

Hi everyone! I have an Iphone 5 that was newly "remodeled" for tmobile. I was wondering if there was something wrong with my battery after a recent decline in performance. I am updated to the latest iOS and I recently restored all of my settings on my phone in an attempt to increase battery performance, leaving only wifi on location for weather. With my current usage and standby, do I have something to be concerned about? I know some individuals that have my usage and will have a standby time of over a day. Advice and opinions is very much appreciated.

Usage and Standby the same means that there is an app on your phone that is running continuously. Usually its an app choking on bad data, or trying to send and failing. There are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:
Mail is a common culprit, especially if you have a Microsoft Exchange email account. If you do, go to Settings/mail,contacts,calendar, tap on the Exchange account, and turn off the switches. Then back out of settings and restart the phone (hold HOME and SLEEP until an Apple logo appears). Then turn the switches back on. This clears the mail, contacts and calender queues. It will take a while to resync content, so don't check battery condition until the resync is finished. And its best to do this with a WiFi connection as a lot of data may go by.
If that doesn't fix it do the same with your iCloud account, and any other Push accounts you may have (Yahoo, gmail, hotmail, AOL).
Next, look for apps that run in background (most of the apps in the Quick Launch ribbon do not run in background, but a few do - music and video streaming apps, Facebook, Twitter, Yahoo Messenger, Whatsapp, etc). Kill them in the quick launch ribbon by pressing HOME twice to display it, then hold your finger on any app until they all wriggle, then tap the "-" on each one. It won't do any harm to kill them all.
Note that if you have Google Maps installed and you asked it for directions it won't stop tracking you until you actually kill it in the Quick Launch ribbon.
    good luck and report back!
BTW, you will see a lot of posts blaming some specific version, now 6.1.4 (because it's the newest). But you will see just as many reports for 6.1.3, 6.1.2, ...5.1,...4.1...3.0, etc. It's nothing wrong with the version (except for 2.1, which had a real bug), it seems to be caused for some people by the upgrade process itself. But there are also many people who encounter this symptom far away in time from any upgrade.

  • 17" Macbook Pro battery died (mid 2010 model)

About a year old, the main battery died. Cycle count is 207. Since this is a non-user replaceable item I had to buy a new computer to aviod being without for a week. (no local apple store)
    Buy a replacement computer.
    Return mine for repair
after reciept of the reapired computer
    return the new one..

Apple won't send me one (as stated above, read "Non-user replaceable"), and as far as I can see there is no aftermarket available for this model.
They are actually easy to find once you obtain the part number - 661-5535.

And even if there was an aftermarket battery, my computer is still covered by applecare. And the cost for returning the new computer would be less than a aftermarket battery.
I presumed from your original post that you had to fork out another $3000 for a temporary replacement, and be without your original for 1 week, then have to return the temporary one. Not to mention all the postage etc. Now, just presuming that you would be happy to pay $200 to have it fixed without all that hassle. Obviously your not satisfied with the current option otherwise you wouldn't have posted the thread to begin with.

  • Is there something wrong with my Macbook Pro's battery?

I have just gotten my macbook pro three months prior and all of a sudden the battery won't last as long anymore. At 90% is says it is estimated to only last 2 hours and 30 minutes. Do I need to have my computer checked out?

Download "coconut battery" fro macupdate.com. This is the display on my system:
It tells me that I currently have a few more mAh than designed capacity (that particular number will vary but has not dropped below 6950 yet).
It will be a good "health" indicator of your battery, in combination with the "Condition" indicator you found before.

  • I am trying to connect my HDTV to my MacBook Pro using a Mini Display Port to HDMI and the TV seems to not be receiving any signal. Is there something wrong with my TV or Adapter?

Whenever I connect the minidisplay port to the HDMI cable, my MacBook Pro screen turns blue for a moment and then nothing shows on my HDTV. I have tried to "detect displays" with each resolution listed, but none seem to work with my tv. Is there any way to fix this issue?

I keep saying this over and over, in the hope that people who do a search will find it. Apple cannot possibly test for or be reponsible for the bazillion combinations of adapter, cables, and TV's out there. The only monitors that are 100% guaranteed to work with the MacBook Pro are the Cinema Displays and Thunderbolt Displays, because, they're made by Apple. They're expensive, but they work perfectly.
My guess is that you bought a cheap MDP to HDMI cable, or have a defective one. From my reading of these boards over the past few months, cheap cables have a high failure rate. And the regular priced ones have only a slightly less of one. Try a new one. Make sure you do not damage the Thunderbolt port.

I have a MacBook Pro(Mid 2012, running OS X 10.9.4) and I recently just bought a mini display port to VGA adapter so I could hook it up to my dynex TV but when I connect everything my TV says no signal. Do I need to do something in settings?

  • Macbook pro(2008 later) can not recognise external monitor(NEC UXI2090) with mini-DP to DVI adapter with 9600GT

I bought mini-DP to DVI frome Apple several monthes ago and it worked well in that time until yesterday the external monitor show me no signal sign. Other PCs were connected with the same cable and monitor and they are fine. I am wondering there is something wrong in the adaptor or macbook pro. Furthermore I found the external monitor can display nornally when I switched to 9400 graphic card and used mini-DP to VGA adapter. If I switch to 9600GT no signal again. If I switch 9400 using mini-DVI, it is shown on the external screening: Out of range... In a word, In the mode of 9600GT, mac can not recognise external monitor(I can not detect it in the systerm preference even I press detect display buttun) and 9400 works in VGA mode. However when I connect adapter to mac, the screen showed blue flash.
I reseted SMC, no use; I created a new account or enter mac to safe mode, no use; so far I did not reseted PRAM beacuse of something wrong of my system. I am downlaoding Mountain Lion OS and will install it. Then I will reset PRAM and try again.
I do not know whether I shoud change the adapter or the single-link DVI cable to dual-link. Someone said it is useful in their condition. I tried some methods from BBS, such as connected when devices were off and then open, and so on. I failed.
    Any suggestion for this problem?
    Addition: OS: 10.7.4(Lion)

I turns out that the logic board of my MacBook Pro was faulty (despite being brand new).
I took it to the Apple Store, presented the problem, and one of the Tech's came to the same conclusion that I had -- hardware failure. Phone support was no help in the matter (and even told me that what I was trying to do wasn't a supported option, which is rediculous). However, the Genius Bar did take care of the problem, and my MacBook Pro was back to me with a replaced logic board within a few days.
    Hope that htis helps.

  • Battery Dying Very Quickly

In the past week my Samsung Galaxy S3 has been dying very rapidly. Before this started my battery would last the entire day. Beginning about a week ago I noticed that after a complete charge my battery will drain to 40% or 50% after just one hour and I am not even using it but for maybe 5 minutes during that hour. The battery continues to drain very quickly so I am constantly having to charge it during the middle of the day. I also noticed that if I am using it while it is charging the battery life will not increase, whereas before it would. Also, when the battery level gets low the message to plug in your charger appears, but when I hit "okay" the message just keeps reappearing over and over. Before it would just appear every few minutes or so. I did a cache wipe a few days ago which seemed to improve it for a day, but all the issues are reappearing.
Any ideas on what I should do?

There have been reports of the s3 battery charge not being detected correctly, and it stopping its charge when it thinks its at 100% even if it isn't. (However it was said to be happening with International versions as opposed to US versions). Someone reported that Samsungs website recommend turning off power saving, rebooting the phone, and then charging the phone to get it to report correctly. Don't know if that will work or not, but you could try it. If you haven't already looked up battery issues on the Samgsung website give that a try.
