Does anyone here own the MSI P6N SLI V2?

I'm thinkin about getting this board for a budget rig (E4300/2GB RAM/7900GS), but I havent heard anything about it yet. So I dont know whether it has any overclocking options in the BIOS or not. Its cheaper than the FI, and has one more PCI-E 1x slot. Doesnt come with Firewire though, but I dont need that. The layout is pretty clean, even thouth the Floppy controller is in a horrible position.
So is anyone here running the thing succesfully? Any links to user experiences in forums or reviews would be appreciated too of course.

it's surely 4 layer PCB. you can see there are ample area for voltage rails on the board. Good delivery of 5V, 3.3V, 12V to the entire board. I would expect stable overclocking too.

  • Are passive 3D TVs better? Does anyone here own a LG passive 3D TV?

So I still havent' bought my 3D TV.. but I decided to pay a little bit more and get a new one just to be safe.
But I still can't decide which one to buy. I've been reading a lot of forums and reviews...
It seems like a lot of people are shifting towards passive 3D TVs and specifically LG 3D TV because they ranked #1 on consumer report.
I also read on cnet an article about passive 3D TVs being better than active 3D TVs in both comfort and image quality...
It said that passive 3D TVs have brighter images, sharper images, less flickers, more depth, etc and said that LG Cinema 3Ds have the least flickers and crosstalks.
But there are still a couple people on forums who say active 3D TVs are better so I really can't decide which one is better.
Does anyone own a LG passive 3D TV? Can you tell me what the pros and cons are?
    Thanks
    Marnie

Basically, there is no way to do 3D without giving each eye only half of what the TV can display.
Active shutter-glasses based 3D TVs do this by splitting time in half - each eye gets half the time.  In the past this caused flicker because it halved refresh rate from 60 Hz to 30 Hz.  Fortunately, as LCD technology has improved, it has been easier and easier to crank up the refresh rate of TVs - with 120 Hz refresh rates readily available, halving this only dropped you to 60 Hz.
Passive glassis do it by splitting space in half - each eye sees half of the image elements of the screen.
It turns out it's a LOT easier to double refresh rate than it is to double resolution.
Note:  Projection systems are a bit different, these can achieve passive 3D without any compromise, as in these systems, you can use two separate projectors, each with a polarizing filter.  The two full-resolution images are overlaid together on the screen, right on top of each other.  This is not possible with any direct-view approach.  I think some projector systems behave similar to shutter-glasses, except with a switchable polarizer on the projector - e.g. the "shuttering" is done in the projector.  It's a lot easier to have a small switchable polarizer in the optical path of a projector than one which covers the entire screen of a TV.

I think he means if they will all run at 800MHz  .
There are boards out there, that, when all slots are occupied and 4 or more GB needs to be adressed, only run at 667MHz, due to memory controller.
I dont know if this one does though  .
thank you thats exactly what I mean, am using Vista 64-Bit and have 4GB at 667MHz and was planning to upgrade 800MHz.

  • Who has this setup - MSI P6N SLI Platinum & E8400

This message is intended for anyone who has the MSI P6N SLI Platinum & E8400 in a working state.
I've had the pleasure of perusing these forums for a while in hopes of finding an answer as to why my E8400 isn't working with my P6N SLI Platinum. I've updated my BIOS, I've RMA'd my chip, I've even contacted MSI support (with no reply I might add). I have been so careful when handling these components and thoroughly reading the instructions, to no avail. I've got the board and all components working with a different processor. I've tried the voltage modifications that many have said work, I've tried different memory, I even tried a different video card. So I'm stuck in the same boat as many it seems, however there are one or two posts on this forum and others where people have said they actually got it to work!
So now I really hope I can get this question answered - What is a working config? One of the things I haven't tried yet is a new power supply. My current PS is 650w, but has the 4 pin CPU power connector. From the posts I've read, it shouldn't matter if I have the 4 or the 8. But in reality, does this CPU work on the P6N Plat with an 8 pin connector? I'd be willing to go buy a new PS if thats the case! What else could possibly be the issue? Any and all feedback is appreciated. i really didn't want to start up another thread for this proc/board issue, but perhaps someone else has joined this board by now that may provide the little piece of info that I've been missing.
    Cheers,
    Aaron

according to the website, the 1.6 BIOS had cpu updates in march so I's assume it would have support for the E8400.
What exactly happens when you turn on the system with the E8400?

  • MSI P6N SLI-F Northbridge Heatsink dimensions?

I'm looking around for a nice quiet CPU heatsink/fan that will fit on the MSI P6N SLI-F motherboard.
there's been a couple that I've had to rule out because the Northbridge heatsink is too close to the CPU socket -- but can anyone tell me how tall the stock heatsink on the northbridge is, on this particular motherboard?
It's kind of hard to tell the scale on most of the motherboard pictures that are floating around. If anyone can tell me how many mm this heatsink rises above the motherboard, I'd much appreciate it!
(Suggestions for a quiet CPU fan to be used with a Core 2 Duo E6600 that will fit this motherboard are also very welcome. I'm not intending to overclock -- low noise is more important to me than arctic temperatures)

Hm... Are you sure those actually fit on the (non-platinum) P6N?
Looking at pictures of the motherboard, a 92mm vertical fan looks like it might run into the northbridge heatsink... Can anyone else confirm that the collermaster (RR-PCH-S9U1-GP) fits this motherboard?
Yes, it does... images of it installed in the thread linked above.

  • Bios problem on MSI p6n sli-fi

Hi, on december i've the bios beta 2.13 on the msi p6n sli-fi and an e4300.
I changed to an e2140, and started the problems:
If i plug a ps2 mouse, then starts the beeps, here a record of then, i look for beep code, and dont find this combination on beeps:
If i dont use the ps2 mouse, the board start fine and goes ok.
Another problem was that the back USB, dont work, they detect perfect on the Admin Device, but if i plug something nothing happens :(, sometimes take the usb keyboard when boot, so i flashed the bios thinking could be any proccesor bios incompatibily, but after that, windows or while booting, dont detect the usb keyboard, or wharever i plug.
Yesterday, i've a surprise i attach an old USB gamepad, after a while, i taked good the gamepad (propably usb 1.1 gamepad, its a cheapper one). So after this which is the problem? Because of another gamepads, keyboard, usb flash drives and another things i plugged on the back, nothing work except for that old gamepad.
THE front usb works perfectly fine, without problems.
So what could be the problem? I think to go back to bios 2.13 beta bios, but i dont have back up :(
Please some help, i'm lost with this problem

Clear CMOS with main A/C power cable removed from PSU and load "Optimized Defaults" in BIOS after that.  See if that changes anything.
If it doesn't, unplug the USB Front Panel Connector from the board's USB Pin Header. After disconnecting, check your back panel ports again.

  • MSI P6N SLI Platinum OEM Modification Question

The MSI P6N SLI Platinum OEM edition motherboard comes with all the circuit layout needed to support 2 SLI x16 Style connectors for SLI'd video cards. However the OEM only comes with one installed and an empty slot for the other. What resistors and the like would I need to add to the board in order to add the pcie x16 connector to the empty area on the board? I've already found a source for the actual slot, and I know I am going to need to add a resistor of some type to the empty resistor slot directly above where the PCIe slot will go. Beyond that I don't know what else I need to do, or what type of resistor is needed.
Oh yeah, and where can I go to buy the optional accessories for this board that came with the retail version? I would have prefered the retail version but the board I have came as part of a kit.

    Hello Tornath,
you have already mentioned yourself, that you have an OEM-Board, not an MSI-Retail Board. MSI does not provide end-user support for OEM products, as this is the responsability of the OEM Vendor who is selling OEM Boards under a different name.  Also, this forum will not support OEM Products and that is why I will have to close this thread.
However, before you waste huge amounts of your lifetime with trying to add a second PCI-Express Slot to your OEM-Board, let me explain to you, why your plan is rather pointless:
    1) The only OEM-Board of this class I know of, has the model number MS-7350VP.  If there ever was a marketing name, it would be called P6N Platinum (not P6N SLI Platinum), and there is one simple reason for that:
    2) This particular OEM Board has an NVIDIA nForce 650i Ultra Chipset (as opposed to the NVIDIA nForce 650i SLI), and if you look at the specifications for NVIDIA Chipset on the official NVIDIA Chipset Specification Site, you will see that this Chipset does not support the NVIDIA SLI™ Technology: http://www.nvidia.com/page/nforce_600i_tech_specs.html   .... That is basically why there is no additional PCI-Express Slot in the first place.   So even if you should succeed in adding a secondary PCI-Express Slot to the board physically, the chipset will render it more a less useless in terms of running two video cards in SLI mode.

  • Update on Pentium D 930 + MSI P6N SLi Mobo

A short time ago I was searching this forum for information concerning the compatibility of the Pentium D 930 processor with the MSI P6N Sli Mobo. It seems that this processor was not officially supported for this board. A few helpful people offered the opinion that they would likely work just fine together. I just wanted to get back to you guys and say thank you again, that turned out to be exactly the case.  :D
After an embarrassing no-post situation caused by the leftover mounting  spacers from my old board (which used 12) to my present board (which uses 9), everything went smoothly. Acronis with Universal restore allowed me to regenerate my operating system. After a lengthy update of drivers the computer was up and running smoothly and with a entirely welcome but somewhat puzzling difference. Whereas the old board (D945PVS) consistently provided an environment in which the CPU ran at 50°+ C (?!) and had transient temperatures as high as 58 - 59° C with an ambient 20° C, the new set up consistently ran below 40°. These results were consistent no matter what type of thermal pastes were used, be they my homebrewed colloidal silver in silicone stopco*k  grease or Arctic Silver.  (that's hilarious... the anti-obscenity software interpreted a fully normal English language word as obscenity)
    Well, whatever the reason....sweet.
I have only attempted simpleminded overclocking as the options are somewhat limited by the processor. With the frequency for the GPU locked at 100 MHz, simply adjusting the FSB to 1000 raised the apparent speed of the CPU to 3.75 GHz, up from the stock frequency of 3 GHz. An attempt to set the front side bus at 1060 resulted in a non-bootable system so back to 1000 it went.
I have not adjusted any of the system voltages. So far I have not stress tested this other than to simply use the computer for several hours. No apparent problems yet. The system temperatures have remained between 38 and 40° C in an ambient 20°C environment.
The only thing that nags at me, and I'm fairly sure that this is of no importance is the fact that in device manager the CPUs show yellow exclamation marks and in properties I see a message saying that certain drivers failed to load for the CPU and that other software may be taking their place. Well, whatever this actually means, it has had no detectable impact on system performance or reliability.

    Hiya flobelix
If by manually updating the drivers you mean by left clicking on them in device manager and selecting update --> search online, then yes, I did. I do not have the exact verbiage but the resultant error message was something to the effect that the drivers had installed but failed to start and something else may be taking their place.
Driver magician fails to detect that any cpu drivers are missing. Same with online testing services such as PC pitstop. | have done a cursory search using Google to find people with similar problems but I have not as of yet seen this EXACT problem.

  • MSI P6N SLI sound problem under windows 7

    Hi all!
I have an MSI P6N SLI mainboard and I have installed win7 ultimate x64 to get a look on that OS. Everything works fine expect one thing: I have no sound. I tried to install manually the realtek sound driver but no changes. When I check the Volume Control Options then neither the Speakers nor the Realtek Digital Output checked (but the speaker is plugged in).
However I have sound under Linux.
Could someone help me? (and sorry if I have missed the topic which resolves this problem if there is any)

    Hi everyone,
hope it's ok to refresh this thread - I did not want to open up a new one, because this one matches my problem perfectly - but my speakers are plugged-in the right way
I'm running Win7 64 on the MSI P6N SLI (not v2 no Platinum) and am unable to install the sounddriver (well not correct - I did install the driver). The upgrade advisor said all green (under Win XP 32) and the MSI-Driver-Page propagates Win7 32/64 is supported for the SoundCard of my Board.
The driver installs just fine, but the device won't come out of "I have a problem"-state - always telling me "The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)" (I event tried installing the driver manually with pointing the win-hardware-setup-routine to the driver-directory) - still no use - I removed and rebootet serveral times...
Hope anybody has a solution for this problem (I'm taking the posts above as a "this has to work"-basis so i'm not ready to give up and go out there and buy a new soundcard )
Thanks in advance for any hint.

  • MSI P6N SLI-F & Thermaltake cl-p0370?

I'm currently looking at purchasing an MSI P6N SLI-F motherboard, but do have a question:
Does anyone here know whether or not the Thermaltake cl-p0370 heatsink + fan will fit on this motherboard?
It's a bit hard to tell from the pictures whether or not the heatpipes will clear the couple of capacitors to the right of the CPU socket. It does appear that there is enough distance from the heatsink on the northbridge and the RAM slots, but I am not so sure about the capacitors...
And should this NOT fit -- does anyone know of another affordable low-noise heatsink + fan that fits and can be used with a core 2 Duo E6600 CPU on this board?
    Any info would be appreciated!

Really, I think not many of us can comment much.
You really have to take the measurements of the CPU area and the HSF into good considerations before the purchase.

Maximum temperature at the junction point (where the die is glued to the chip carrier inside). Max temp is 100°C for Allendale and 85°C for conroe. The internal sensor coretemp uses does not return a absolute temperature but rather how many C° is left until Tjunction is reached. So to calculate the temperature they use Tjunction - Sensor Reading = Temperature. You can see here how speedfan's wrong assumption of 85°C for allendale creates a 15°C offset.
