Does anyone know if their servers are down?

I am hearing rumors that apples servers are down and thats why original iphone users cant reactivate their phone so if you know for sure then please reply and tell me

i dont know if this is true though and if it is they better fix them

You only option is to buy a copy of Mac OS X, either the retail disk or system disks.
There are places you can by a copy of Mac OS X, like online vendors, Amazon or eBay.
System disk are gray and come with more than one disk. Retail disk are black with a 'X' on them and often come as one DVD disk.
Not sure what version your going to require as you haven't provided any specification and model details.
I would safely assume being a G4, it would be happy to install Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger.
If you could let us know the PowerBook you own, then I am sure we could advise you further.

Does anyone know why the tutorials are now 30 minutes instead of an hour? When I purchased the program after buying my iMac it was $100 for 1 year for tutorials of 30 to 60 minutes???

I am very disappointed that the length of the tutorials offered at my Apple Store have been reduced from 60 minutes to 30 minutes! As for the $100.00 fee charged for the tutorials it has not been reduced to $50.00 This was an option offered to me for a year when I purchased my iMac.

I saw on a PC World article a statement about 'the Backup & Reset' section of my phone but can not find it. Just Backup Assistant. Does anyone know where it is or if Verizon replaced it?

I have a Verizon Razr. I saw in an article that 'Backup & Reset' was a function available in ICS in settings. It allowed you to backup not only your media but also your apps. I would like to use this function rather than the Verizon supplied Backup Assistant which only backs up your media. I do not see the 'Backup & Reset' function anywhere in settings and I was hoping someone else knew where I could get it.

does anybody know in which preferences file the custom IAC channel settings are being stored? i am trying to copy my settings over from 10.5.8 to 10.6

I added a bus to the IAC via Audio Midi setup, closed it and then looked at which file in the preferences had the right modification time. It turned out to be this one:
/Users/'you'/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.MIDI.000a959c7684.plist
So try copying that one, and see if it works...

Does anyone know why some partitions are not mounted at at boot up?

We have many new intel based IMacs with 1Tb internal drives. Each drive is partitioned into 6 and are in a university mac lab.
Occasionally some of the partitions are not mounted when the mac first boots up, so we have to go into disk utility and mount them manually. This happens on various machines at different times. We have NTFS-3G installed so I'm wondering if it's something to do with that.
Any ideas much appreciated!

Audiobooks (and ringtones) are currently a one-time only download. I believe that they are all supplied to Apple by audible.com, so I assume that it's them who are requiring the one-time only download restriction. To get it onto your other devices you will need to sync it via a computer. Depending upon what country that you are in, Audible.com have their own app (Audiobooks from Audible) so you might be able to buy direct from them, though I don't know whether you can buy within their app or download audiobooks directly from them within the app e.g. whether they need to be copied via a computer.

I'm having the exact same problem. Out of the 500 or so contacts I have in my Outlook 2007 installation, about 50 occasionally get their category completely stripped off.
About the only thing I've been able to come up with is it seems to happen only when I add or modify a contact on one of my iOS devices, even if that contact is not part of my Outlook data (i.e.: the contact is part of MobileMe or iCloud data).
I guess I'll have to seek Apple support for this...

It's 9:38 PM - does anyone know where my clips are?

Have created a nice project in HD 5, all imported and edited on an external LaCie 260GB firewire drive. It behaves just fine and I'll export it as a QT movie for importing into Compressor. But when I try to import clips from that movie into another, I cannot find them - anywhere. Spotlight reveals some unrelated clips on an external USB 2 drive but offers nothing for any of these new clips. Hmmm...any ideas on where they are?

Your iMovie project file is really a package.
If you command click or right click on it and choose show package contents you'll find your clips.
An easier way to copy clips to another project is just to copy and paste. Or drag a clip out to the desktop and it will be copied there.

Does anyone know what .hang files are and if I should delete them?

Apparently I shouldn't use Symantec Anti-Virus, but I just ran it and it showed a long list of files that ended in .hang which it said it could not scan. Any clue? Also, after reading other posts, I'm trying to uninstall AV which is a bit of frustration. The reason I ran it in the first place is because Safari and Mail are acting very strange -- Mail is not remembering passwords and Safari is not playing Hulu videos. Twilight zone. Any help will be hugely appreciated.

Does anyone know where program SNs are stored

I reinstalled 10.4.11 and all of my programs open asking for my SN. All of the programs were on separate disks inside my G4. I migrated my G4 system over to my iMac before I had problems with my G4, so I should have all that info on my iMac. Some of the programs were downloaded from the Internet and I have no idea where the SNs are.
Also, I changed the computer name when I reinstalled the software. Could this be the problem? And is there a way to change the computer name back to what it was? Thanks for any help.

OK. Here's my thoughts. On the G4 which has a user account I'll call "brewer2." The iMac account I'll call "brewer" so we can keep them organized.
Create a temporary admin account. I'll call it "temp."
Log out of the "brewer2" account.
Log into the new "temp" account.
Delete the other account, "brewer2."
Connect the G4 to the iMac via Firewire cable.
Boot the iMac into Target Disk Mode - Transferring files between two computers using FireWire.
Open Migration Assistant on the G4.
Configure to migrate the "brewer" account on the iMac to the G4.
When the migration is completed log out of "temp" and log into the migrated "brewer" account.
Delete the "temp" account.

During beta testing, Chinese characters occasionally turn up in dialog boxes, but that's because the software is not in a stable condition. If you're using MX 2004 (v 7.0.1), it's five years old and should be stable. If you're running on Vista, right-click the program icon in the Start menu, select Properties, and set compatibility to Windows XP in the Compatibility tab. Other than that, I have no suggestions. Sorry.
