Does anyone know if there's a way to get growlmail to work in Lion?

I have a new beautiful 2011 11" macbook air, but because of the small screen, I enjoy working in full-screen apps where possible. The problem is that I am then unaware of incoming mail, since I can't see either the dock or menu bar. GrowlMail, which I used to use in Tiger, would solve that problem, and I downloaded the Lion-compatible plug-in, but it doesn't work, possibly because Mail has disabled it automatically. Has anyone figured out how to work around this problem, or is there another way to be notified of incoming mail when I'm working in another full-screen app? I hate to keep going out into Mission Control to check - it breaks my concentration.

An old fashoned way of doing it is with a widget - I use this one:

Does anyone know if there is a way of getting a visual timeline for tasks using Mac like outlook offers?

I would like to organize my tasks using a programme that gives me a timeline of my tasks in a visual way like bars etc. I am using Toodledo at the moment and although it's brilliant it does not offer this option. I like outlook for this but can't find any other programms that do the same thing without having to re-insert all my tasks etc. Is there a way that ical can do this?

I'm a bit vague about what it is you wish to accomplish. Are you trying to capture video through an external box? If so, that's not posssible with any of the Canopus boxes I'm familar with. In fact I don't know of any external video capture solution that works with an iPad, though I can't state definitively that none exist. I really don't think an iPad would be well suited for this even if it's possible. I'd strongly suggest you look into a MacBook Air or one of the current MacBook Pros. Those are far better suited for on-the-fly video capture and editing.
If that's not what you mean, please post back and explain further what it is you wish to accomplish.

Does anyone know if there is a way to share files between Mavericks and Mac OS 9.1 operating system? When I try to connect from my iMac I get a window that says "The version of the server you are trying to connect to is not supported." Is there a work-around to this problem or is it just not possible? It would be largly appriciated for a solutin beings my business is a small town newspaper, and we have some important files on the older computer that need to be acessed daily.

Actually to share files between OS 8-9 and OS X, all versions, is quite easy from what I read. Look here for some details.

Or since both OS 9 and OS X can do SMB Windows sharing you could use that protocol to share files from one to the other.
Doesn't really matter what OS you are using. Mac OS/OS X shar files with Windows computers of all types and versions of Windows so the same applies for the different versions of Mac OS/OS X.
Each Operating System takes care of reading and writing files to there respective file formats of the hard drives so that does not have to be the same. They both just have to be able to do Ethernet with the same files sharing protocol.

If you'd set up MobileMe/Find My iPad on it before it was taken then you might be able - but only if it hasn't already been wiped, MobileMe hasn't been disabled on it, and if it is connected to a network. Otherwise no, it can't be tracked.
If you havn't already done so then you should report it to the police and change any passwords that you were on it - iTunes account, email accounts, and any stored on websites/notes/emails on it

Does anyone know if there's any way to find out what files in my Library I can delete? I just cleaned off my HD onto a media drive as a back up so all my movies documents and photos are gone but my Library seems to be a huge space hog eating sixty gigs of space and I do have alot of apps but they don't take up a third of that space... Any ideas how I can figure out what is wasting all this space? I had Spring Cleaning once but found it to be rather confusing as to what was essential to the OS and what not...

Get free OmniDisk Sweeper. I can't imagine how you could have sixty GB in that folder. My entire ~Library isn't even 1GB. Are you sure you're not talking about your entire Home folder?
Can you post a screenshot of the contents of that folder.
Check again. Are you sure you moved all the Movies etc. out? Could have left duplicates of everything behind when you did this.

I mainly just use my iTunes for organizing and adding new songs. Most of the time I listen to my music on my iPhone. I wish it would keep track of how many times I play a song in my music and transfer it to the computer under the 'number of times played' column. It would help out so much! You sound like an Apple support guy who hasn't been able to answer my questions.
To respond to some of the points you made,
- I did not ignore Ocean20's suggestion. If you has read my post, you would have known that I took my phone to the apple service centre where they tried this restore on THEIR machines. I am assuming that Apple guys know how not to block iTunes. So I actually do not understand your point about me trying the hosts file changes on my machine. Do you not believe that apple tested this issue with the correct settings?
- you also give a flawed logic of why the issue is a hardware issue. You mentioned that If I thought that the issue was with the software, i should try a restore and getting it to work. The problem is that my error (23), and many others comes up when the restore fails. And you would be astonished to know that not all errors are hardware errors. Sometimes even software errors prevent restores. Funnily enough Apple itself mention that 'in rare cases, error 23 could be hardware related'.
- all Apple has done so far is replicate the issue. I don not know how anyone can conclude that the issue is a hardware issue.
And by the way, I am not certain that this is a software bug. Again if you read my Posts, you will notice I only want a confirmation,/proof that the issue is hardware related as they mention..

iOS devices do not have the BT profiles that support file sharing and othr general functions. See:

The iBook is going on ten years old, so if the hard drive hasn't been replaced, that may be necessary (if not now, soon). A hard drive usually lasts from three to five years.
An iBook G3 (Dual USB) uses an original AirPort Card (with the 802.11b standard). You need to make sure that your router (or wireless modem) will handle that standard if you want the internal card.
The reason it's telling you that it's up to date is because you have the last version of Mac OS X 10.3 installed. If you want Tiger, you will have to buy the installation disc(s) for it. Does it have a Combo drive or a CD-ROM drive? The reason I ask is that Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) usually comes on DVD, so it's much easier to install on an iBook which has a Combo drive (which will read DVDs).

My I-phone 4 froze when I was trying to sync some music to it tonight from i-tunes. I lost all my contact info, apps and most importantly photos. I had just returned from a vacation to the mountains and had 200 or so photos that are now lost I really would like to know if there is any way to retrieve them because I hadn`t uploaded them to my computer yet. If the photos were not backed up with a recent backup, there is NO way to retrieve them.

Io6 update deleted my mobileme account and all my emails and won't let me add it again. Does anyone know if there is a way?

I updated my iPhone 3GS with the new IO6 update last night and when it rebooted, my mobileme email account had been deleted along with all of my emails. I am using incoming mail server: mail.me.com this seems to be the problem as it will send emails using the smtp.me.com server.
I have also tried imap.mail.me.com, and smtp.me.com and mail.icloud.com and smtp.me.com Nothing seems to work but it could be something simple I've overlooked? Help would be much appreciated... any method of getting the emails to my iPhone would be fine by me.
