Does anyone know if Vista runs on MacPro?
Just wondering if anyone has info on Windows Vista compatibility and functionality on MacPro. Like many, I have to keep a PC around to run certain applications, and I'm looking forward to the promise of the one box (MacPro) solution.

Both of these pieces of advice are incorrect. With only a minimal effort you should find plenty of evidence against using Vista 64 - software/driver makers just haven't come to terms with it at all. You would have more support (though not enough) with XP 64 bit, but either way you wouldn't have major performance improvements (unless you are running a server). Also, 64 bit will not at all run older 16 bit software.
Any version of Vista > than home basic runs multiple processors.
My recommendation for Vista would be Business - since I feel the media center isn't meaningful on a Mac Pro (Ultimate Version) and you can install both as Boot Camp and within Parallels (unlike Home Premium). I would also say OEM - however know you are restricted to either 32 or 64 bit OEM where as retail you get both and can choose to transplant the OS to another machine entirely.
Personally, after giving Vista a trial run (you can get up to 120 days) I feel the software just isn't out there yet. Things either don't install or are buggy. For the few things I want to reboot to Windows for - things should work. Maybe once software support is out there I'll give it another shot.
If you try Vista, clone your XP copy first to an external drive. It was great that in 15 minutes to be able to just go back to XP.

I don't even know if mine does via DVI. I think it may have to do with the adapter. Try going into Audio MIDI and setting the digital out to multichannel
and using the toslink cable for now. Lemme see...apparently DVI does not carry audio at all. Hm. apparently monoprice could be helpful? If I understand what you're saying correctly: you want to take DVI and multichannel audio via the Toslink and have it all go out over HDMI, right? Thanks!One thing I do know, is the the UI is very small and menu items/buttons are hard to see. Someone posted a video of a now removed autodesk forum response on how to adjust font sizes .cfg file style, but I tried and it did nothing to the small text in Maya 2014. If you plan on it and don't have button and menu locations memorized by feel, I wouldn't use this software on a macbook pro without an external display, or change the resolution out of retina to use Maya.

Does anyone know of a VI or how to go about writing one that will prevent the computers clock/time from being disabled while an application is running. The time and date can normally be reset while an application is running by clicking on the time/date in the lower right-hand corner of the computer screen. I have an application that runs over several days and it is critical that the time and date of the computer not be changed. Is there an easy way to lock this out from the user? Note that I am what I consider an advanced beginner in LV.

Go to Solution.That is not something you can do from LabVIEW, as it is an operating system operation, and it will depend on the operating system that you're using. On Windows you can use a group policy to control this. Please Google on "prevent time and date change in windows".

I am able to transfer my photos from my iPone 4s to my PC with Windows Vista but it won't transfer my videos? Does anyone know how to do this?
I have Vista (don't laugh) and my videos are transferred over when I plug in my phone. They don't open up in Winodws Picture Viewer though.
They are under my Photos, under the date created by the sync. Do a search I'm sure you'll find them. -
following hard drive failure on iMac running Maverick I have recovered from TimeMachine backup but now app store does not connect. All other internet connections normal. Does anyone know of a fix?

Does anyone know if Appleworks 6.2 (education version)will run on windows 7 64 bit? I have it running on 32 bit with no problem.
It runs fine on 64 bit. I have it running on Windows 8 Pro 64 bit. Just have Quicktime installed first otherwise the install will fail. Sorry for the late reply.

ICloud will not sync my contacts or calendar in Mac Office 2011. ICloud does however sync to my PC at work running Microsoft office 2010 and also to my IPad and IPhone. Does anyone know how to fix this?

I'm a video editor working primarily in FCP7 and just purchased the latest Mac Pro running Yosemite ? Does anyone know if any options have become available for running FCP7 on this platform ?
It would "run" (more like Sunday stroll or walk) if you installed Snow Leopard in a VM. Especially if you have 6-core (and would help to have 6 or 8 cores anyway if you were able to and intend to make best use of nMP for video editing).
If you "classic" Mac Pro was 2009 or later, adding two AMD graphic cards, upgrading the processor to 8-core 3.xGHz would have gotten you a FCP-X capable machine and still dual boot and use Snow Leopard as needed.
Any Mac Pro can now use 1000MB/sec SSD PCIe blade to boot from and/or for scratch and editing to help improve work flow.

If your optical drive is broken, you will either need to replace it or get an external. There is no other way.
Why do wish to upgrade? As you can see it is going to be expensive, probably more the Mac is worth.

Thank you for the response. Typically this error is caused by installing an older verison of iTunes than you had prior. When you installed iTunes did you download the program directly from iTunes.com, or did you use an older copy of the program on your computer? If you used an older version or are unsure, uninstall all the components one more time and download a new copy of iTunes via the link below.

Outlook 2007 doesn't show the icloud service running in Windows 7 within outlook. Does anyone know what the dll for this service is so it can be manually added to outlook? I've installed the icloud control panel app and set it up to synch everything, but after initially downloading my icloud calendar, it won't process any calendar updates (new entries made on either iphone 4 on ios 5 or outlook).
So since the control panel installed, but the service doesn't show running in outlooks "trust center" add-ins list, anyone know the actual dll file it would point to so I can see if I can add it the hard way?I had the same issue and figured it out. First you have to start Outook as administrator. To do this, shift and right-click on outlook and click run as administrator. Next you need to enable Hard-disabled add-ins:

Hard disabling can occur when an add-in causes the application to close unexpectedly. It might also occur on your development computer if you stop the debugger while the Startup event handler in your add-in is executing.
To re-enable an add-in
In the application, click the File tab.
Click the ApplicationName Options button.
In the categories pane, click Add-ins.
In the details pane, verify that the add-in appears in the Disabled Application Add-ins list. The Name column specifies the name of the assembly, and the Location column specifies the full path of the application manifest.
In the Manage box, click Disabled Items, and then click Go.
Select the add-in and click Enable.
Click Close.
Then you need to activate it.

I agree with Grant. But to answer your question, that would be Word 2008. A quick search turns it up on sale at Amazon. You'll need to find it somewhere other than Microsoft itself, since MS stopped selling it when they released Word 2011.
