Does anyone know what a gray screen on boot up means?

I have a Mac Pro with 10.6.x (snow leopard) and I am getting a gray screen on boot up. Any ideas on how to fix this? It wont boot from the dvd either.

Is the Power light flashing? that may mean a RAM problem.
Sometimes the "snag keys" at Startup are not seen due to the keyboard connected via a Hub in a display. The keyboard needs to be connected to a USB directly on the chassis, no intervening Hub.
Use the Alt/Option key for best resuilts when in a jam -- it needs nothing from any drives to make a picture on the display, its code is all in ROM.

Does anyone know what will happen to my boot camp partition once I upgrade to lion?

I have MacBook Pro (4,1) running leopard 10.6.8 and am hesitant about the upgrade to lion because I have a FAT boot camp partition with window xp in it and a number of apps that I wouldn't like to lose in the process. Does anybody know how the upgrade handles the boot camp partition?

While this is the way it is supposed to work, because the Lion upgrade does try to create a new Recovery HD partition on the system disk, there is a chance that the BootCamp partition can be corrupted. Unfortunately Apple does not provide a tool or instructions on how to backup the BootCamp partition. I have had good results with WinClone even though the program seems to be no longer supported. I have just restored my XP BootCamp partition after my live partition was apparently corrupted by my Lion install. My recommendation to anyone running a BootCamp partition would be to back it up prior to any upgrade attempt.

Does anyone know what "movie contains an invalid data reference" means.

We have three Mac Pros running OS X 10.6 on a network. One Mac often gives this error message with movie files in Quicktime 7.6 for files which are fine on the other Macs. Is there a way I can investigate what is actually going wrong? Thanks!

That usually means that iPhoto can't find a clip or a shot that you're using in the Slideshow.

Welcome to the Apple Community.
If your problem persists get yourself a micro USB cable (sold separately), you can restore your Apple TV from iTunes:
Remove ALL cables from Apple TV. (if you don't you will not see Apple TV in the iTunes Source list)
Connect the micro USB cable to the Apple TV and to your computer.
Reconnect the power cable (only for Apple TV 3)
Open iTunes.
Select your Apple TV in the Devices list, and then click Restore.
(You may already have a micro USB cable if you have a camera or other digital device)

plug cable into computer not phone
turn phone off
hold home button and plug cable into phone. do not release home button until an itunes graphic appears on device.
look to computer should have message about recovery mode click ok and restore

I was using iMovie yesterday and it was working. But today when it started it doesn't show anything in the window on the left. No events, no projects, nothing. It's blank and so is the rest of the screen. Does anyone know what my problem might be?

If you do not see the events or clips you were working with previously, first see if you can switch back to the library you were using with this method:
Show or hide the Libraries list
You select libraries and events in the Libraries list.
To show the Libraries list: Click the Show button on the left side of the toolbar.
The default location for iMovie libraries is the Movies folder in your home folder.

Thanks for the question. After reviewing your post, it sounds like the display has a dark screen. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help you resolve or isolate the issue.
iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
Display has no backlight or dark screen
Toggle the ringer switch to see if the unit vibrates. If it does, it could be that iPhone is getting power, but is not displaying any image.
Try turning iPhone off and then on again.
While connected to the iPhone charger, try to reset the iPhone.
If the low-battery screen appears, charge the iPhone.

may you have directly imported clip to timeline without copying it to local drive..
update project for links and check if missing clips are there..

If you are getting an issue with the display on your iPhone such as you describe, I would suggest that you troubleshoot using the steps in this article -
iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
Specifically -
Display image issues
This can include bright or dark pixels, lines in video, or sections of video missing.
Try turning iPhone off and then on again.
Verify the issue is not content related, by viewing different content.
If the image is too dark, adjust the brightness. In General Settings choose Brightness and Wallpaperand slide the slider.
And -
Issue not resolved
My issue is still not resolved. What do I do next?

Not good news. But you will need to be more descriptive. What version of OS X are you running? Did you do anything different prior to turning it off the time before this happened? Is their an Apple logo on the screen? Is there a spinning gear below the logo? What version of OS X was installed when the computer was new?
