Does anyone use the Asus G751JY-DH72X laptop for editing HD video in Premiere Pro

I wish to purchase a laptop for field use. The Asus G751JY-DH72X laptop seems to have great specs for HD editing in Premiere Pro (CC 2014). I wonder if anyone has tried this unit and: 1) Does Mercury Hardware (GPU) acceleration work and 2) Does a Thunderbird array connected to the Thunderbird port work?

The Asus G751JY-DH72X appears to be the perfect Adobe CC mobile workstation spec wise. I am thinking of purchasing this myself. Adorama seems to have the best prices on the 512SSD, 1TB HHD model. According to the list of Adobe CC supported cards the Nividia GTX980M is officially on that list. I don't know about the array...but everything else is legit. Looking at the specs and add all the reviews...this is an excellent choice for an Adobe Animator/Editor.

4. Adding BBMessenger contacts. Open BBMessenger > Menu > Add Contacts. Enter either the PIN of the other user you desire to add, or their email address. IF THEY are already on your BB Address Book, you can enter their name there. Follow the prompts you are given.

I am considering a similar model the Asus g75vwAS71 which has a GTX 660 2G GDDR5 video card and I believe all the same specs as the first model named besides hard drive configuration.
I'm planning to add a SSD for the OS and programs. I'm only editing Canon DSLR footage, right now I'm using a T3i but I'm hoping to upgrade in the near future. Single camera and most of the stuff I shoot is for short (60 sec to 5 min) video packages (I'm a journalist).
Do you think that laptop would be sufficient for my needs?

Does anyone use the OS X Server Version 4 Wiki?

We are debating about whether to continue to use the free OS X Server Wiki for our company or whether to switch to Confluence.
Love that this is free, but curious to know what experience people are having with it. Pro's Con's, etc.

Just curious. I don't, but I probably would if the effects
were better -- the system itself of applying and editing effects
works nice.

I've never used the Timeline Effects either, and after some
fooling around with them I think these are the main reasons:
1) There aren't very many effects. I don't expect to discover
much there.
2) The effects that are there aren't particularly useful.
I've never really needed to "explode" or "expand" something in my
animation. Some of the effects are so basic they don't seem to
really offer any benefit over normal tweening, such as Transform
and Transition. And what about Text effects? If there were
professional text effects, such as the quality found in After
Effects, I'd find that useful.
3) The effects that exist are not very high quality. They
aren't smooth and natural looking.
4) The preview framerate is not synchronized to your movie
framerate, so the preview is mostly useless.
5) UI visibility of the Timeline Effect is really low.
There's no indication in the timeline or Property panel that a
symbol is actually a timeline effect. The only way to edit or
create a timeline effect is through a menu. This makes for a very
awkward interface.
5) You can only have a single Timeline Effect at once.
6) A Symbol with a Timeline Effect can't be edited, you can't
even adjust the frame span in the timeline without the timeline
effect being "baked" and not editable anymore. This makes some of
the "helpers" particularly useless, since it basically locks down
your selection after being applied.
So in the end I think I'll avoid extending Timeline Effects
altogether and just create some Commands to help us in creating
tweens. Any suggestions as far as that goes?

Anyone use the Sony GV-HD700 deck for their HD mini-Dv tapes?

Hi, I've been filming on a Canon XH-A1 in HD and I can't get my tapes to play in the deck. It recognizes the timecode, it will fastforward and rewind just fine, I've got the setting set to HD, the iLink Conversion is off, and I've been through every menu option I can find, but when I hit play I get an error message that says "Change to correct tape format."
Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?
Incidentally, I can capture the footage into FCP through my camera, but obviously the whole point of getting the deck is to not wear out my camera's playheads...

So before when I was shooting in SD, I thought I was shooting in 30F then too, and the deck plays back that just fine - am I missing a difference in SD vs HD types of 30F?
I shoot documentary-style projects for artists, organic farmers, sustainable energy efforts... do you think there would be a noticeable negative change if I just switched to shooting 60i so I could use the deck for capture and playback when I'm in the field? I'm also intermixing footage I shoot with the Canon 5D mark II SLR, any input on that combo?

Has anyone used the IC Interactive scripting editor for the Webclient ?

We originally received the 'Loading %0' message when loading the editor via the IC_MANAGER business role. This was overcome by updating Java (See note 717921).
However, the editor now seesm to working, I can see two examples as standard, but when I click on them I do not see anything. I've ifnored this issue and have started to create my own question and answers in preparation for a script.
However, I have hit a few quirky things while using editor. Am I alone in this, or is this just the way it is.
I'm using the latest version of CRM 7.
If anyone's used this script editor I would dearly like to hear from you, especially in avoiding any upcoming nasties that I may hit.
A perfect example of this kind of problem is in how you create 'Answers'. If I highlight the answer section and click on the 'Create' button I have the options to create the following: Field, Objective script, Question, Action, Button and script, of which none of these are what I want. I can however create a question with an answer section, but of course when it comes to dragging a answer in to the answer box I can't do this as I can't create any answers. Am I missing something?.

Its just that mine works fine when plugged straight into my nano, but doesn't when plugged into the dock? Should this be the case, or am I doing something wrong?

Not to sure but I'm guessing that the dock has already diverted to line out signal from the dock connector to it's own stereo mini jack line out on the dock. You could get another stereo mini jack to RCA cable for use with the dock or you will probably half to plug this straight into the nano.

Does anyone use the Veho MUVI mini camcorder? If so how do you download your video from it. I plugged it into the USB port and my Mac doesn't show a removable disc on my desktop.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am new to Mac and am not sure how to get my camcorder to be recognized by ny Mac.

Is it safe? Can/Should I use it? Otherwise what is the best way to go about exporting from Aperture to Flickr?

The problem with the flickr integration is that Aperture is given permission to delete photos on flickr. I personally think Apple should've left this out. Many people on flickr are reporting losing online versions and masters all in one swipe. A BIG nono.

Is their often an advantage to these downloads regarding function, speed, stability, bug fixes, etc. Also can you have the latest Webkit nightly along with the latest 4.0.4 without one feeding the other via settings, prefs, etc, i.e., is one completely independent of the other like say Safari and Firefox would be? Just curious as I've never discerned a difference between the nightly and the general release Safari. Thanks

The Webkit nightlies are completely dependent on Safari since they use Safari's UI (they don't even have their own, apart from a few Webkit features like the Web Inspector and RSS reader). Pretty much the only differences will be in how it renders webpages and runs javascript.
They can be faster, but major speed improvements don't happen often. Bugs might be fixed, but new bugs might be introduced as well.
