Does Aperture 3 support .CR2 files? My 450D RAW files seem to be disappearing!

I was given Aperture 3 for Mother's Day (Woo Hoo!).
I uploaded the images (RAW .CR2) I took today (Canon 450D) and thought that everything was going fine until the thumbnails started disappearing and being replaced by black boxes saying "Unsupported Image Format".
What is going on? Are my images lost forever?

Problem solved with a call to the support line. Took nearly 20mins but I'm up and running again!
For future reference:
With all programs closed, click on 'Go' on the toolbar.
Select your home drive
select Library
Select Preferences
Find the file com.apple.Aperture.plist and drag it to the Trash.
Restart the computer and hey presto! Problem solved!!

You need Quickoffice to read MS Office files and Adobe Reader to read PDFs. Neither is preinstalled in the 5800XM, but you can download them from the phone's Download! application.

In regards to your original question converting RAW images to JPGs is one of Apertures reason for being. As Terrence stated once the image is in Aperture ad you've made chatterer adjustments you want to it you then can export the image in a wide array of formats, sizes and qualities depending on what you will be doing with the exported image.
The Aperture user manual is a good place to start, it's well written and has a lot of good info in it.

New iMac and Aperture not loading .CR2 files? Any ideas?

Hi, I have recently upgraded from a 2009 MBP (running 10.6) to a 27" iMac. What I am finding is that after migrating my applications Aperture will not load/show my CR2 files. It says they are an unsupported format. Any ideas for a solution? These files are stored on an external drive and open fine in photoshop CS5... I have tried installing Camera Raw 6.4.1 updater... PLEASE HELP! Thanks

Reinstalling Aperture may work but as the RAW conversion is external to Aperture (all Apple programs that can work with RAW filles use the same conversion process) I'm not sure it's going to help.
If re-installing Aperture doesn;t fix the problem have a look in /System/Library/CoreServices for two bundles:
CoreTypes.bundle
RawCamera.bundle
Highlight each in turn and do a Get Info. The CoresTypes.bundle showuld be version 301.21 and the RawCamera..bumdle should be 3.9
If you still have the problem post back.

Does PE 11 support AVCHD files on a Mac?

Hi,
I am looking at buying my friend’s Macbook pro (2009)
He is letting me borrow it to see if it will work for my video editing.
Well yesterday when I was messing around with it, I found out that my New Sony handycam records AVCHD files. Mac doesn’t support raw AVCHD video playback.
I would like to edit on PE 11 but I don’t know if PE 11 Supports AVCHD files.
Does PE 11 support the AVCHD files? And if it does support AVCHD files, Will it support them even though this mac doesn’t support the playback?
Is it even worth editing on mac having to go through converting the files? Should I just stick with PE 11 on a PC?
And also kinda some side questions,
How can I make the mac playback the files?

In Windows, if Windows Media Player can play the file, I know that Premiere Elements will be able to edit it. From what I know of codecs, This could only mean that if the codec is installed, Premiere Elements and Windows Media Player can take those up and "understand" the file (for playback and editing, you need to understand what file it is and what properties it has).
While on a MAC, if QuickTime does playback a file, it is nearly guaranteed to be understood by Premiere Elements. Not true the other way around. Premiere Elements can play and work with a file perfectly well, but the native Quick Time does not play them. MTS files fall under this category. I see that this anomaly is because of the way the codecs (needed to "understand" the file) are specific to applications. For example, I had to make QT playback DivX files - to do this, I had to search for a codec and place it in QuickTime plugins folder - that tells me that unless you are using QT for everything on a MAC, you can not playback a DivX file on any other application. Otherwise you need a DivX codec supplied by your application vendor. They are not shared like they are on Windows. I could be wrong with some of my assumptions, the forum veterans can confirm
In short, to really confirm if there is support for MTS files in PRE11, try it with the trial version of Premiere Elements 11. Then decide on the purchase.

Canon Raw (CR2) files seem to get corrupted after some times

I use a fully registered Lightroom 5.3 with my Canon 5D Mark III, and I have this kind of corruption on some of my CR2 files from times to times. If i reimport the .cr2 file in another catalog or even on another the resulting file is still corrupted.
The wierdest thing is that the original import was successful and I successfully exported it several times correctly. The corruption should have happens afterward:
Do you have any idea where does this comes from? This is absolutely inacceptable from a professional software.
PS: I had this kind of curruption with an old version of Lightroom with my previous pentax K7d, but I though this was past

Why does Aperture not support all DNG files?

I have a Leica D-LUX 2 and an Epson RD-1. Both of these cameras create RAW files which are not supported by Apple. Why should the files, when converted to DNG, still require RAW support to be utilized. I understand the wrapper concept, but is this not the idea of DNG. What about cameras that create a DNG file, rather than RAW (i.e. the new Leica M8).

Hi Kenneth,
You're missing the point Karl is making. RAW data is (in essence) proprietary to the camera. All DNG does is essentially encapsulate that proprietary data in a standard format. The data is still proprietary whether DNG or RAW.
By proprietary I mean that the sensor array and sensitivity to light, tonal correction across the gamut all are understood by the camera manufacturer and held as parameters (data) in the RAW or DNG file. It requires specific knowledge to interpret this data into a renderable image. Until such time as camera manufacturers agree that 1 = 1 and 2 = 2, we are stuck with this issue (and ALL our concern of x years from now when nobody supports what is our latest and greatest camera). An API included in Aperture (actually OS X) would at least allow camera manufacturers to write their RAW conversion algorithms and take Apple out of the loop.... as well as take dependence on OS X releases out of the loop too!

Looking at getting one of the two new Leica cameras - the D-Lux-5 or the V-Lux-2. I'd like to know if Aperture 3 (on Snow Leopard) supports the Raw files for these two cameras, which, based on looking at the Leica forums, are RW2 and RWL files.

Does Aperture 2 support layered .psd images from photoshop

I was wondering if anyone can answer this question for me. I will be using photoshop to edit wedding photos. I will be doing alot of layers in photoshop for my wedding photos. is it possible to save the final edited photos that contains layers into Aperture so I can utilizes the photo management that aperture provides and post on a website through .mac service? If not, can you suggest a photo management software for my final edited photos in photoshop that will allow me to post the photos out on the Web through .mac?

In short, Aperture does allow saving layers.
You must open in external editor (PS) make your adjustments and any layers, save (not save as), make sure that you click maximize compatibility. Your layered file will return to Aperture. If you need to massage one of the layers again, just open in external editor again.

Does nokia 5230 supports .sis files??

I just got this phone and I am new with symbians.. The thing is every time I put a sis file in my mobile.. It says "its not compatible with the phone". So even if I install it the file does not work...

I've had literally dozens of themes from here, you need to join (but it's free and they're very friendly) never had a problem with them, best to download to computer and drag and drop to E/F then open with file manager on phone, ignore warnings (I don't recommend things to people I haven't done to my own phones)

When will Elements11 support CR2 files from Canon 70D ? Or is an upgrade necessary ?

As it is now RAW files from Canon 70D is not recognized by Elements 11. And Adobe don't ship any upgrade, only to Lightroom and PCC/Bridge. Is there a workaround ?

PSE 11 will not be upgraded to support this camera. You need either:
Purchase PSE12 or PSE13 ... or ...
Download and install and use the free Adobe DNG Converter version 8.2 or later, convert your RAWs to DNG and then import the DNGs into PSE 11

I am wondering if we can open multiples PDF files in multiple tabs rather in separated windows (like webpages opened in tabs in Firefox or chrome..)?
I didn't find such a feature in Adobe ! I found it in the free PDF viewer (X-change)! It is a great feature in my view !

I agree with the initial post but not with the posts asking for the multiple windows! I am surprised how can people still ask for multiple windows!
I agree with the initial post; that is making multiple or single windows as a customizable option. Who prefer separated windowS will enjoy it, and who prefer one window for multiple files can enjoy it too.
Personally, I prefer one window for multiple files rather than dozen individual windows.
I abandoned the payed acrobat for the free X-Change PDF viewer ONLY for this great feature of multiple documents in a single window.
Note: In X-change viewer (and Foxit) we can chose between single or multiple documents!
Why acrobat does not do it customizable too to be able to chose between one or the other option?
