Does Aperture have a salt and pepper filter

I have scanned around 3000 photos and imported into iPhoto. On enlargement many have dozens of small white spot and tiny hair imperfections. In iPhoto these can be deleted individually by using the retouch tool. Does Aperture (or hidden in iPhoto) support a tool for automatic, mass deletion of these spots? I understand this can be called a salt and pepper filter, or perhaps de-speckle. Notes: the speckles are random so not caused by a scanner setting. The scanner plate was cleaned as well as possible and the photos were cleaned as best as possible given they were pulled from old albums. Re-scanning is not an option. i want to retain as much clarity as possible so do not want a general blur. For simplicity I want to remain using an Apple product rather than an alternate photo-editing tool. Thanks for reading. Vince

No, Aperture does not have Speckle filters. But your white spots and lines are not exactly Speckle noise. For a real Speckle noise (Salt and Pepper) you would have very dark spots as well.
In Aperture you could try to reduce the white spots and lines by applying the smoothing brush selectively to the darker areas, but that will only soften the spots, not remove them completely. Or use the "Repair" tool to remove the spots.
One filter that works well with small, bright spots is the median filter, but that is missing in Aperture. In Photoshop or similar external editors you can use the filter "Expend dark areas" (I am not sure how this filter is called in the english version - my Photoshop has german menus). This will shrink the white spots and white lines by expanding the darker regions. You need to set the radius to half of the size of the spots.

I have only been using Aperture for a very short amount of time and thus may have overlooked this feature.
In Camera Raw when viewing a RAW files I can hold down alt whilst moving the exposure slider, then it will show me if my Highlights / low-lights are blown?
Does Aperture have similar functionality?

it sure does, at least of the highlights. from the view menu choose "highlight hot spots" or something like that. i think the keyboard short cut is Option-Shift-H.
with this menu item enabled, as you slide the exposure (or any other adjustment for that matter) you'll see the hot spots highlighted in red.

Mac has Pages and Numbers, which are mostly compatible with word and excel. Both are available in the App Store for $20 each.
You can also buy Microsoft's office for Mac suite.

As Alan pointed out Aperture does not do layers. While the plugin he pointed to seems interesting (had never seen it before) it is on the pricey side for what it does.
You could use either GIMP - The GNU Image Manipulation Program which is free or else Pixelmator from the Mac App Store for $30, as Apertures external editor. In either case you'll get a app that will do more for you then just layers.

To assure that your first backup is over Ethernet I'd turn off AirPort until it's done. Check the order in the Network panel of System Preferences. I'd move the Ethernet connection item to the top of the list.

Now many of the games are obsolete after being updated. I wish I hadn't updated them now, and I would still have play available. The trial version of Adobe photoshop 13 does not have the Crop And Straighten Photos option under file and automate....... all it has is "Fit Image"....... would really like to have that feature.... is it something they eliminated?

Airport does not have IP address and Self assigned IP address

Using a 2.66GHz Mac Pro with OS X.6.6 and a Netgear DNG200 wireless and installed Airport Extreme Card and WPA2 security.
In Network click on Airport and 'Turn on Airport' Up comes the message 'Airport dos not have IP address and is unable to connect to the internet'.
Go into advanced and double click 'Network Name'. Supply password even though remember is selected, and message changes to "Airport has Self Assigned IP address 169.254.etc.etc and will not be able to connect to the internet'.
After repeated back to Network Name and double clicking and supplying password eventually connects. Simple to reconnect by selecting Turn Airport On in Menu Bar so long as the machine is not turned off.
Any suggestions please?

Keep getting pop-ups on my computer. Contacted one of the companies the pop-up talks about. They have confirmed its not them and told me it sounds like I have spyware in my computer. Why does Adobe have to try and foist unwanted programs?

I have just had to tiptoe my way through updating Adobe Flash Player. Had I not chosen the Advanced option of downloading and installing the update, I would have had my browser changed for me (plus other anomalies, it appeared). Thinking I had navigated and avoided this pitfall, there were at least another six or eight programs which would have been installed had I clicked on the Accept button (which appeared to be simply agreeing to the Conditions, but weren't).
I am furious at this blatant attempt to install 'foistware' on my computer. Why would a, presumably responsible, company feel the need to stoop this low? I can imagine there are hundreds (if not thousands) of people now wondering how they can get rid of these quite unnecessary programs and changes to their computers.

I DID get the 'middle pane' - which I am very used to seeing and, as always, unchecked the box to receive the unwanted programs (I already have Google Chrome AND an excellent anti-virus program - thanks all the same!).
But it then went on to offer me additional programs. I did not take any screenshots as I was not expecting all this palaver. And I don't remember what the programs were that I was offered either. I just wanted to get on with the download and get on with my business. I was getting very frustrated though. As I said earlier, underneath the small dialog window which was offering these programs (and which, if I remember aright, was inside the main window) - the "Accept" and "Decline" buttons were still visible BUT it looked as if the "Accept" button was the only active one (being highlighted) whereas the "Decline" button was greyed out. And, as I said before, it 'looked' as if one needed to click the "Accept" button to agree to the Conditions of downloading (which is quite normal, as you know).
But being of a wary nature and hopefully not as gullible as some, I tentatively clicked on the "Decline" button anyway - and it worked. The offer of those one or two extra programs was then replaced by one or two more - in the same type of small window. Having learned my lesson, I continued to decline and eventually got to the end. But this experience did make me feel most irritated, as I indicated in my original post. It should not be necessary to be expected to jump through all these misleading hoops just to update an every day program, should it?
