Does Aperture resize your photos?

I noticed when moving my iPhoto Library to Aperutre, that all of my photos are much smaller in file size then they were... For example, a photo in my iPhoto library weighs in at 7.6 MB and when moved to Aperture, it is resized to 1.2 MB? I don't want them to be resized, it affects my quality as a photographer. Am I doing something wrong here?

If you want to see the size of the photo in Aperture, go to the Metadata view. It will give pixel dimensions and file size.  If it does not, you can choose those things to be shown.
To get a photo out of Aperture, you can Export it instead of dragging it out. When exporting you can choose original size or a variety of other sizes.
Or you can choose to have full size high quality previews ("Don't limit" the size and put the quality slider near the high end). If that is your choice, you can drag the preview and get a full size export. I believe you will need to regenerate previews for those images that have already been imported.  Full size previews take a lot more disk space.
I believe that apps that have the media browser (Pages, iMovie, etc) use the preview image.  So if you want them to have access to the full size image via the media browser, the preview will have to be full size.  If I am wrong on this, someone will hopefully correct me.

  • How does one resize a photo to the dimensions required by a contest?

How does one resize a photo in aperture to the dimensions required by contest?

Are you submitting a print or a file?
You set the size of your print in the print dialog.
You set the number of pixels (the unit of linear measurement of digital images is the pixel) for a file when you create that file by exporting an Image from your Library. You can specify a recommended number of Pixels per Inch by using the (mis-named) DPI field in the Image Export Preset you use when you export.
The files you import have a height and width in pixels.  Height/width = the Aspect Ratio.  You can crop to any aspect ratio using Aperture's Crop tool.
What are the specs required by the contest's sponsors?

  • In MAC OS, does PSE9 duplicate your photos on import?

I'm moving from PC to MacBook Pro and just learned that iPhoto duplicates your images when you import into iPhoto? Does PSE9 do that or does it just create a catalog and not make duplicates of your photos on your hard drive?

Yes right. Organizer is db-based application which stores associations between actual files on your hard disk/external hard disk/cd/dvd to their previews (called thumbnails) within the EO catalog. Along with these links, it stores tags/albums information which are two modes of organizing your files in EO.
It does not replicate these files anywhere on your disk.

  • Do you resize your photos first before placing on front page?

i am working on a new site. When I clear my cache and view the site, it seems to take quite a few seconds before everything loads. There are only three small images with 10px borders around each. Would it be best to resize these images in PS prior to reduce their size? The other pages aren't as critical as the first page, but do you make this a general practice for your front page?

Yes, I pre-process all my photos before uploading to the internet via iWeb or any program or site. Is this absolutely necessary? No.

  • When you connect your itouch to itunes does it save your photos/notes from your ipod?

My itouch recently froze, i was told the only way of saving it is to reset it to it's original settings. I have important photos & notes on there that I can't lose. When you connect your ipod to itunes does it save that information?
Please answer this if you know the answer. I need to get this figured out.

Unless you can connect the iPod normally to your computer and get the photo and notes to the iPod without restoring the iPod.  It sound like that can't be done.
    Just what have yout ried?
    - Resetting will not delete anything and may all connecing the iPod to your computer and geting your stuff.
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

How do you creat a copy right symbol in Aperture 3?

You can type the copyright symbol in any Mac application using the keyboard shortcut "{Option}+{g}".

  • When you rebuild your iPhoto library does it erase all your photos

When you rebuild your iPhoto library does it erase your photos and my iPhoto keeps crashing i was wondering if there was a fix for this?

When you rebuild your library to be able to use the new version of iPhoto if that is what you are talking about, it will simply rebuild it so that the new version can access the photos that you already have on your computer.  This will not affect the files in a way to delete them.  It simply just makes it so that the new version can be compatible and use the photos that you have on your computer.

I have now downloaded all the pictures in my camera directly into PSE Organiser. The pictures are all in folders listed by date the pictures were taken. Are they now safely housed in the PSE program?
PSE does not contain your photos. The photos are on your hard disk(s) somewhere, wherever they were put when they were moved from the camera to the hard disk (might be the default location chosen by PSE).
Can I delete the old Canon programs, which are still sitting on my Mac?
    Yes
And if I want to back up on an external hard-drive, how do I do that? Just drag the whole lot across?
Your interest in making backups is to be commended.
There are many ways to make backups, including the way you just suggested. You can also create a backup using PSE (which I recommend) since it includes the photos and the very important catalog file. In PSE, File->Backup Catalog, and set the destination of the backup to your external HD. Remember to do this regularly.
Sometimes when I've used 'Smart Fix" or other tools in the Photo Fix toolbox, I'm not happy with the result. But how can I 'undo' a fix and revert to how it was before?
PSE should create a version set when you do any editing, including the Smart Fix. Thus, you just need to expand the version set (right-click on the photo) to see both the original and the Smart Fix. Then you can delete the Smart Fix version.
-- I want to create an album "Europe 2012", and within it categories for UK, France, Italy etc. But although I hit 'create album category' when Europe 2012 is highlighted, the category just attaches to the last listed album - something completely unrelated. How do I ensure categories are within the correct albums?
I'm going to strongly recommend you don't do this via albums (unless your intent is to share the contents of the albums online somehow, in which case use Albums). I recommend you use tags instead of albums for this purpose. You can create a tag called Europe under Places, and another tag under Europe called France. I would also recommend you not bother including year or other calendar information in the tag (or album) names. You want "Europe" as your tag, not "Europe 2012". Why? Because you can always segregate by year (or other calendar time period) using the PSE Timeline; there's no need to do extra work to segregate the tags by year (or other calendar time period).

  • Can you get your photos back after the iphone does a restore

Can you get your photos back after the iphone does a restore?

    Actually, wrong.
The tech support people can help with Playbook purchased apps. If you've called and they said they cannot, you were lied to.
Even in the link you posted, in #10, it states clearly "App Refund related matters are handled by BlackBerry Customer Care." That, my friend is accessed by the support number. Again, if you were told otherwise, you should inform them of such or ask for a manage/supervisor.
And, you don't have a "Partner ID" because you are not a "Partner". The section you're referring to applies to mobile providers, which are the Partners.
    Good luck.

It does not give me a choice, it just says quit or upgrade? p.s. i didn't realise ther was  a way to back up my computer beforehand, which i am guessing this is time machine?

    1. No, you haven't.
    2. Back up the iPhoto library(this can be done through Time Machine or by dragging it to a drive, partition, or disk image formatted as Mac OS Extended) and then click Upgrade.
    3. Aside from Time Machine and drag-copying items from your home folder, programs such as the Disk Utility, Carbon Copy Cloner, and SuperDuper can make backups.

  • Am I correct that Photos does not support external editors? i.e., in Aperture, I click Photos Edit with.... and can open in Photoshop or various plug-ins. Changes are then automatically saved back to Aperture. Nonexistent in Photos?

Thanks Larry. That certainly gives me some understanding. Can't imagine I'm the only Aperture user with that concern, so I certainly hope Adobe and others will fill the void. Without that feature, Photos is pretty much a non-started for me.

  • How does iPhoto sharing work? Does it enable someone to share your photos on a public wifi?

How does iPhoto sharing (in preferences) work?  If you enable it, does it allow someone to view your photos while on a public wifi? I am using a macbook pro with 10.7.4

Only if you set it to do so and only if the person on the other end has iPhoto.

  • HT1766 Does a back up save your photos?

IM about to do a backup on my iphone 4., does it back up your photos?? Donu retrieve them from iTunes when restoring?

Photos that are in your Camera Roll are part of the iPhone backup. However, the best way to make sure you have saved these photos is to import them to the computer, the same way you would photos from a digital camera. If you restore your phone from a backup, it should put the pictures back into the camera roll, but they have been deleted for some users in the past.

  • Does Aperture have layers, such as Photoshop. I have to make one photo out of two photo's.

Does Aperture have layers like in Photoshop? I have to make 1 photo out of two. This is an assignment for the Fotovakschool.

As Alan pointed out Aperture does not do layers. While the plugin he pointed to seems interesting (had never seen it before) it is on the pricey side for what it does.
You could use either GIMP - The GNU Image Manipulation Program which is free or else Pixelmator from the Mac App  Store for $30, as Apertures external editor. In either case you'll get a app that will do more for you then just layers.
