Does apple charge for software updates on ipod, does apple charge for software updates on ipod

Does apple charge for software updates on ipod (2nd generation)?

Apple doesn't charge for iOS 4 or newer. To upgrade to 3.1.3(only necessary on the first generation models), there is a charge.

  • When does the next software update for iPods and iPhones and other apple devices ??????

I think there's a update 6.1.4. But it doesn't show on my iPod touch
or iPhone 4 and I got the updated 6.1.3.   How to get it update or when the new one come out ??

    You have the latest update.
No one would know when Apple will do anything unless they announce.
    Speculation is not permitted here.

That procedure eventually leads you to the need to restore it.
Make sure you are following the instructions in this procedure to the letter. Here they are, with emphasis on some easily overlooked requirements:
Disconnect the USB cable from the iPad, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off, release only the Sleep/Wake button.
Continue pressing and holding the Home button while you reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.Note: If you see the "low battery" screen, let the device charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some charge, and then start with step 2 again.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears (iTunes icon and USB connector) release the Home button.
If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the "recovery mode" alert ("iTunes has detected a phone in recovery mode").
Use iTunes to restore the device.
If you do not see the "Connect to iTunes" screen, try these steps again. Be patient since it sometimes takes several of these attempts before you are successful.
If you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen but the device does not appear in iTunes, see this article and its related links.
Select the iPad in iTunes and choose "restore from backup". This assumes you have a backup. If you do not, you will have to download all your purchased iTunes content again. You do not have to pay for anything you already purchased.
If you still can't get it to work, you have done all you can and only Apple will be able to help.

"iPod software update server could not be contacted. The Server does not support this version of iTunes." iPod will not turn on or charge or reset settings. I tried plugging it in my laptop, house computer and docking station to charge and nothing. Also, I have all the latest software updates to my knowledge. This is a classic 8GB iPod, running of Windows 7. Any thoughts/suggestions?

only thing that seems to work so far is syncing without photos and also check here https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3206849?start=30&tstart=0

  • Help: I have recently downloaded the newest software version for apple products. I have a iPod touch. After the process of updating my software, my photo app doesn't work anymore.

Help: I have recently downloaded the newest software version for apple products. I have a iPod touch. After the process of updating my software, my photo app doesn't work anymore. I can't take pictures or view them at all. Every time I try opening the app it kicks me out of it and sends me to the home screen. I have tried turning off my iPod and back on multiple times. Even double tapping the home screen button and closing my opened apps. And I tried looking for the photo app in the app store but I did not see it. So I am wondering what can I do? And is this due to the new software update? Does anyone else have this problem?

No, I have not tried any backup tools. I havent restored my ipod back to factory settings yet and then sync everything back on it. I am kind of scared too because I dont want to lose anything. I have just been hoping some new apple software update will come out because I know several people have had problems when updating to the newest version available.

  • When is apple going to release the next software updater for ipod photo

    Hi,
Is this common to all products from apple that they will stop supporting/updating older or relatively older versions of their product family. The current ipod software updater is too old and it doesn't have the feature of volume control like the iPod video. I have been thinking about purchasing some other products from Apple but I suspect the same behaviour across the streams.

When you bought your iPod, I assume you studied the features it offered, decided that those features suit you and so you made your purchase. How does the fact that a newer iPod now offers different features somehow entitle you to more?
I'm not trying to be rude here, and I agree that it would be nice if Apple could offer some of these new features to an older iPod - but to just expect them to do it and admonish them for not just doesn't seem fair to me. What you want is something extra. If they provide it, great! If not, oh well - you still have all the features you originally paid for plus the podcast support that was added on.
    Cheers!

  • Hi, my ipod does not have software update and on itunes it says chack for update but says ipod is up to date

Hi my ipod does not have software update on settings and on itunes it is up to date please give solutions

Thanks. I have been looking for this information for hours too. You answered my question in your list. I have a 2nd generation iPod Touch and last updated to iOS 4.2.1. Now many of the games are obsolete after being updated. I wish I hadn't updated them now, and I would still have play available. It's sad in this economy that I'll have to purchase a new iPod touch just to play a few simple games. I haven't even had it three years yet. That's what I get for not waiting a few months for the next generation. That's a nice little marketing tactic from Apple .

  • Why does Apple need to charge for feature updates, but Sony doesn't?

Ok, so I know all about the subscription-based accounting reasons for why Apple has to charge a nominal fee for firmware updates that provide new features to the iPod touch (but not iPhone).
I don't have a problem with this fee, and personally think its quite reasonable, and am happy to pay it.
However, I'm curious as to why Apple has to charge for these updates, but Sony doesn't - and I've not been able to find a reason.
Since the release of both Sony's PSP and PS3 video game consoles, Sony have frequently released firmware updates that add many minor and some very significant new features to both consoles, as Apple have done with the iPod touch.
However, Sony has never charged for these new features. Does anyone really know why there's this difference?

You better believe that any company doing business in the US has to follow US laws. You don't get to just say, oh well we have our headquarters in another country so we can do what we want in yours. Hehe I am pretty sure diplomatic immunity doesn't come with selling something in the US. The accounting reason is a sham. Apple knows that their customers are desperate for "coolness" and will sacrifice features and customer service and pay for that privelege.
What really gets me is that I already bought the January update. The only thing 2.0 adds is the "priveledge" of paying Apple to buy applications. So of course I bought the 2.0 update because I am an idiot and now my audiobooks will not play. Will they support it no. I buy an update from them, it screws up my ipod and then I can't even call or email to get some help. Instead I have to travel an hour to the nearest Apple store. I recently bought my first iPod but after all the horrendous experiences I have had with their lack of support and idiotic "geniuses" at the genius bar, I will never buy another apple product. Which is too bad because they have the most elegant and fun to use interfaces. However, I would rather have something a bit less elegant but that I can get service on without a 3 hour time commitment on my part.

  • Well, I was updating my iPod Touch and it went flat while updating. Now every time I go to turn it on it says it's flat, so I charge it and when its turning on it does the apple symbol but then it flashes and goes straight to a blue screen. What can I do?

Thats what happens to it. How you fix it?
    P.s: don't mind my screen.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

It also looks like your screen is badly cracked. Whatever caused that may have lead to the current problem.

  • HT204053 i'm using same apple id for my ipad & ipod but after start using the same apple id on my ipad, i can't upadte my free software, it's showing "YOU CAN NOT UPDATE THIS SOFTWARE SINCE YOU HAVE NOTOWNED THE MAJOR VERSION OF THIS SOFTWARE" so how I ca

I'm using same apple id for my ipad & ipod but after start using the same apple id on my ipad, i can't update my free software downloaded on both, it's showing "YOU CAN NOT UPDATE THIS SOFTWARE SINCE YOU HAVE NOT OWNED THE MAJOR VERSION OF THIS SOFTWARE" so how i can update my softwares on ipad & ipod using the same apple id

I think the issue is that iTunes (for whatever reason) thinks I have two Apple ID's.
also, to further complicate the issue, when i try updating the apps from my iPod the iTunes store is still recognizing my old hotmail Apple ID. So when I go to enter my password it won't accept because it doesn't match with the old Apple ID, even though it is the same account (just new Apple ID name).
I have tried signing out within the App Store and re-signing in with my Apple ID but it still brings up my old Apple ID name when I try to update.

  • HT1414 I tried updating my iPod 4th gen. and all its showing is an apple without the bar. Its been doing this for a day. People said  i need to restore it on my computer. But, i dont know how. Advice?

Okay, My iPod needed an update so I tried to update it and all it is showing is an white apple logo. Its been like that for a day now. I don't know what to do. Ive asked some people and they told told me to take it to apple, at&t or go on iTunes onto the computer. So I tried to restore it and I don't know how. Ive tried alot of things and I still cant get anything done with my iPod all it shows is an Apple

    Hello, kyleedement11.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I would first recommend going through all of the steps in the articles below.
iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3281
If the issue persists or your device displays a connect to iTunes graphic, process the steps in article below.
    Use recovery mode
Recovery mode erases your device and restores it, which should resolve the issue. If you previously synced with iTunes or iCloud, you may be able to restore from your backup after recovery.
Turn off your device. If you can't turn it off, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time and wait a few seconds for it to turn off.
Plug the device's USB cable into your computer only.
Hold down the device's Home button as you connect the USB cable to it.
When you see the Connect to iTunes screen, release the Home button. If you don't see this screen, try steps 1 through 3 one more time.
iTunes should open and display a message such as: "iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes."
Use iTunes to restore your device.
If you don't see your device in iTunes, follow these steps for Mac or these for Windows.
If you can't update or restore your iOS device

My Ipod touch does not work properly. When i charge it,it only works for 5 min.n gets discharge.I showed it to the apple store in banglore n the person told me its fine n It is working properly.Bt its not working properly. Can someone help

If after you charge it for about three hours and it only last about five minutes the battery is probably dead or there could be another hardware problem.  I would go back to the Apple store and ask them specifically how can it be OK if the fully charged battery only lasts five minutes.

  • My ipod 5th generation wont charge after ios 8 update .. does this have something to with the charger not being an apple product?

Before the update my iPod was charging fine. then when I updated it started acting funny like one minute it would charge then it wouldn't then the next after IOS 8 came out my iPod wouldn't charge at all. could it be that my charger isn't an apple product? PLEASE HELP!!!  I have important notes from school on here and I'm afraid to ask my mother for a new one without giving her a good explanation.

Could be that the update make the iPod more aware of marginal cable. Other users have reported the same.

    - Try another cable. The cable for 5G iPod (lightning connector) seems to be more prone to failure than the older cable.

  • My iPod touch will not play or charge on my non apple dock since the software was updated, why is this?

My iPod touch used to play and charge in my non apple dock but now will do neither. Looking back it appears to have stopped working when the software was updated to 5.1. Why is this?

There are two sides to this.  On the one hand, an Apple upgrade bricked your dock and that bites. On the other hand, Apple can't be expected to design around 3rd party devices that don't follow the specifications. We don't know why Apple made this particular change that bricked your dock so it is difficult to judge whether or not there was a good reason behind it.  We also do not know why AIVN didn't follow the specification but it was probably cost related.
Note: If you sell the iPod, you'll still have a non-functioning dock.  You can sell it to someone with an older iPhone or iPod that can't be updated to iOS 5.1.
