Does apple final cut import 4K video clips?

I'm toying with getting a camera that shoots 4K video.  Do either Apple Final Cut Pro or iMovie import 4K video?

both support it fully.

I am trying to use my video in my iBook story and I can't find how to share my Final Cut Pro 10.1 clips with the Media Browsers.  Has anyone run into this problem?  I was at a One to One today and it stumped us all.  Sharon

I am trying to use my video in my iBook
    From the help files....
Video and audio files: M4V, M4ANote:  For the Media widget, you can add a video file or an audio file (in a format QuickTime supports) to your book. You can convert other types of files using iMovie, QuickTime Player, or Compressor. For the HTML widget, the suggested file formats are MP4 video files and M4A audio files.

  • How to import .mxf files to Apple Final Cut Pro X?

    Hello,
I'm in the process of purchasing a Canon XF305 Professional camcorder which uses MXF format files. I am using Apple Final Cut Pro X with Lion operating system. Is there a tool which can help me when ingesting with Final Cut Pro X rather than earlier versions of Final Cut Pro.
    Thank you very much,
    Thomas

    Dear Thomas,
As far as I know, there is few programs which natively support MXF video converting or processing. I got my new Canon C300 several days ago, I looked around for a nice tool for my c300.
I tested one professional MXF Converter on Mac. The program seems nice. It natively supports my C300 camera and encodes MXF footages to Apple Prores which FCP X likes best. I found it in App Store. You can download it for a test. In addition, I saw the project about mxf column in a blog , it also seems to have a lot of solution, if you are interested, you can give it a try  http://mts-to-aic-converter.com/mxf-column/
Hope this program helps. Happy Every Day.

  • Integration of Apple Final Cut Studio with 3D Animation Programmes

    Dear all,
I would like to know which 3D Animation programmes for Macintosh have the ability to integrate with Apple Final Cut Studio 2 or vice versa. It's very important to design a 3D model with camera animation and import the scene -AS IS- into Motion or Shake.
    - Which are the best practises followed?
    - Which method appears to be more professional?
All responses are more than welcome.
    Thank you in advance,
    Lazaro

Apple uses nothing more than Quicktime/Compressor to encode those videos. Compressor that comes with Final Cut Pro give a little more control to the video footage to ensure better quality. But, Compressor doesn't add to the quality of h.264 encoding. Compressor uses the same setup as Quicktime Pro.
And even if they use hardware base equipment to encode these videos. It's only for the fast encoding that hardware encoders can give you. I read something on the internet a few months back from the guy who encodes these videos for Apple. He stated that he uses Compressor and Quicktime for the encoding.
Here is the answer to why these video look amazing. Not only these videos, Apple also encodes the movie trailers on their site. The secret is, they are given the best and I mean best quality originals to start with... Videos shot on $25,000-$100,000+ cameras. And the trailer footage given to them by the movie companies are hi-end transfers from film.
We could sit here and debate on what Apple actually does to encode these video. But the bottom line is to start by using the best footage you can obtain. And then go from there...

  • When using Final Cut Express, the video in the Viewer window looks fine, but when I insert the video into the Canvas Timeline it appears to lose resolution, and look fuzzy and blurry. Are there preferences or settings for the Timeline that cause this?

When using Final Cut Express, the video in the Viewer window looks fine, but when I insert the video into the Canvas Timeline it appears to lose resolution, and look fuzzy and blurry. Are there preferences or settings for the Timeline that cause this?

Thanks David. I had to convert the mts file to Quick Time (using AunSoft Conversion software) before I could import it into Final Cut Express. And I made sure I kept the size of movie (720 X 480 with letterbox) to compliment what I set my Panaconic AVCCAM video recorder at (720/60). Even after I fully render it, it still looks fuzzy in the Canvas window at the right that plays what I have editing down in the Timeline. A friend that edits some using Final Cut Pro helped me to narrow things down to this problem. This is also wierd. If my Viewer window at the left is set to 200% to get the person's head the same size in the Canvas window at the right we needed to put it to 400%. Does this make any sense. We think we need to control the Time line resolution somehow but cannot find any options from my manual, or the help, or in the various drop down menus. Do you have any clue? What is going on?

  • Why does my final cut express movie flicker after i put on disk using idvd

Why does my final cut express movie flicker after burning to a dvd using idvd.  Its about 90 minutes long.

    Hi
As Alchroma writes - more info needed.
    FCE/P to iDVD
    Several things
    • How to go from FCE/P to iDVD
    • Free space on Start-up hard disk
    • Encoding
    • Brand and type of DVDs used
    • Burn speed set
    • iDVD BUG
    • Chapters
How to go from FCE/P to iDVD I do
    • Disable Screen and Energy saver
    • IMPORTANT --> FIRST in FinalCut - Mix Down Audio under Sequence Menu / Render Only / Mix-down
    • Export out as a QuickTime .mov file
    • Select with Mark - Chapter Mark
    • Not as Self-Contained (not important but saves time and space)
    • NO QUICKTIME CONVERSION (IMPORTANT)
This QT.mov file I import into iDVD from within iDVD.
Free space on Start-up hard disk
I set a minimum of 25GB (for Mac OS and iDVDs temp files)
    Encoding
    • I use Pro Quality encoding
Brand and type of DVDs used
    • I use Verbatim
    • I use DVD-R
    Burn speed set
    • I set down this to x4 (or x1)
    iDVD BUG
    • One can not go back to movie-project for any alterations and then go back to
the iDVD project. It will notice and ask You to either Up-date or Cancel. Neither
    of them will work.
Medicine - Start a brand new iDVD project.
    Use of Chapters
    • I only use a to z and 0 to 9 in naming them. NO other symbol/letter !
    • NO Chapter-mark at very beginning - iDVD NEEDS TO set this by it self
    • No Chapter marks in or within two seconds from a transition
(Way around this last one - Export movie as QT full quality and NO Chapter marks
Import this into a new Movie-project and now You are free to set C-Ms where You want
them except at very beginning - still)
    Material used to build movie
    • video - I use streamingDV (or convert all other to this e.g. .mp4, .avi, .wmv etc)
    • audio - I use .aiff 16-bit 48kHz or from Audio-CD (44.1kHz) - no .mp3 or direct from iTunes
    • photos - I use .jpg - no .bmp etc
Trash iDVD pref. file and run Repair Permissions - and have a re-try.
    from post ??
May not be relevant, but I had the same problem with iDVD, where burned DVDs showed a green screen. It was cured by quitting Quicksilver and Quickeys as well as disabling sleep and screen-saving

  • Rendering - Final Cut will not render clips under any of the 3 choices?

Final Cut will not render clips mov, or dv under any of the 3 choices, including stuff I have done before.

I realize your problem is solved, but I thought I would post this is case it might helps others in the future.
Under Sequence-->Render--> OR Sequence-->Render All--> OR Sequence-->Render Only--> make sure you have check marks next to all the different video types ("Needs Render", "Proxy", etc).
If there is no check mark, then the video won't render - and this can sometimes seem random, like what happened in your case.

  • Apple Final Cut Express 3.5 on Lion doesn' t work

    Hello everyone,
My Lion runs great, but I've now bought Apple Final Cut Express 3.5 andwhen I try to install it it says: "You can use the" FinalCutExpress.mpkg "not open, because the PowerPC programs will no longer be supported." Cansomeone help me and does anyone know how to Lion "uninstall" again?
    Sorry for my bad English

I know this babowa has had their question answered, but I thought this could be helpful to others.
If you have just one hard drive in your computer (12 steps - total time: about an hour):
    1.  Go to Disk Utilities and select your hard drive.
    2.  Click the partition tab, click and drag the current partition smaller by about 20 GB (if you have it to spare)
    3.  Click the + at the bottom (it should fill the blank space remaining), select the new partition, name it "New_Snow", set the format of the new partition to Mac OS Extended, and then click "apply".
    4.  Insert your Snow Leopard disc, and reboot holding down the C key (this should boot to the installer).
    5.  In the installer, select the "New_Snow" partition that you created (NOT THE BIG ONE WITH ALL YOUR STUFF ON IT), click the customize button when you see it and deselect everything - this installs just the base operating system and will be the quickest.
    6.  When the computer reboots, hold down the "Option" key, and select the "New_Snow" partition to boot to.
    7.  Once in the Snow Leopard OS (can check by seeing if Launch Pad is in the dock), insert the Final Cut Express disc, and install it and whatever else you want to your "New_Snow" Partition.
    8.  Open the apps, register them, and enter in the CD key.
    9.  Use the software updater (found in the apple menu) and choose to update anything associated with Pro Apps and Final Cut Express.
    10. Reboot.  Hold down the Option key again, and select the Lion partition this time.
    11.  After you have booted into Lion, go to Applications>Utilities>Migration Assistant, and select the following settings:
      a.  From another Mac, PC, Time Machine Backup...
      b.  From a TimeMachine backup or another disk.
      c.  Make sure your "New_Snow" disk is selected.
      d.  Deselect everything but Applications, and continue with install.
    12.  If you want, keep the other partition as a backup (it has FCE on it already and everything) or use DiskUtility to remove the 2nd partition, and resize your Lion partition back to full size.
Here is the short version of this method for people who know how to partition hard drives and do reboots, etc:
    1.  Create a new partition on your hard drive
    2.  Install just the base SL OS to the new partition
    3.  Boot into your new SL installation, install FCE, open it and register it, and run the FCE-associated updates
    4.  Boot back into Lion, and use the Migration Assistant to transfer only Applications from the SL partition to the Lion partition.
Total time spent using this method is about 1 hr + (including FCE updates).
5 mins to set up the new partition
20-25 mins for the base OS install
10-15 mins for the FCE install
      10 mins for updates
5 minutes to transfer apps from the SL partition
    Notes:
I bet the "install Rosetta Stone" method would have worked too, but I didn't try it.  I already had a second partition set up on my computer with Snow Leopard; so, all I had to do was boot to it, do the FCE install, then transfer it to my Lion install with the migration assistant.
Hope that helps someone else who doesn't want Final Cut Pro X or doesn't/can't afford the upgrade for $400.  I figure even if it took you 4 hours to do, you're still likely saving $100 per hour.
    FCP X download - 3 hrs
    Installation - 15 minutes
Immediate learning curve issues, etc. - a few more hours
    Updates - 30 mins
total alternative cost about 8 hrs and $400.
    Good luck to all.

  • Using Final Cut Express for video editing without attaching external device

    Hello,
I am a newbie to Final Cut Express as well as Mac's in general. I am wanting to use Final Cut Express for video editing of files, but without an attached camera. Is there any way to have Final Cut Express startup without having it prompt for an external A/V device? I just want to do some basic editing and use the chroma key feature. Can anyone help?
    Greatly Appreciated,
    Knight2000
    iMAC   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    Hi Zak,
Unfortunately, I've tried that and I get into an issue that was addressed in this posting: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=836595&tstart=120 where FCE will show the splash screen and then the program doesn't start. I then have to delete FCE preferences and then I will get the Easy Setup dialog box prompt me again for choosing the external device.
I am looking for a way to use FCE for video editing of files that I already have on my computer that I created using iClone software and is in .avi, or .mp4 format. I get FCE to work one time without the external device actually being attached, but then when restarting the program I get the dialog box asking for the external device and if it's not there, the program just closes, and to get it to work again, I have to delete the preference files and go through the process all over again which is time consuming especially when this is at work. If FCE is not the right program, can anyone suggest a good video editing program that doesn't require an external device and is as good or better than FCE?
Thanks again for your help and support,

  • Imported PC video clips stored on WD Passport (J:)

    Case # 181315390
Imported PC video clips stored on WD Passport (J:) show up in Elements as being on I: (eye) and will not open. Before upgrading Win
Vista to Win 7, Passport was I:, then changed to J:. However, new video files downloaded to passport J: still show up as being on (I

    s issue.
How do I get Elements to make this change from I: to J:?
    Please Help with the same.

To assign a drive letter to a local resource, in XP you'd use Windows' Disk Management applet (right-click My Computer, select Manage, then select Disk Management under Computer Management (Local) > Storage).
For this instance, Ed is 100% correct with the above directions. If your OS is different, just go to Help, and in the Q-box, type in drive letter. Look down the search list for Assign Drive Letter. The exact location might be slightly different, depending on the exact version of the OS.
The OS assigns drive letters to external devices, based on the order of these being plugged-in, or turned on. Each machine will be different, depending on the number of drives, and other devices with drive letters. Each machine needs to have the same drive letter assigned to this external, say J:\. That way, it will always appear as J:\ on each machine, regardless of what else is plugged-in.
Now, on the computer, where it is appearing as I:\, it should be easy to just assign it to J:\. In some cases, if J:\ has already been assigned, one must first change the drive letter of device J:\ to something else, and then assign J:\ to that external. The OS will look at the I.D. of that drive, and always give it J:\.
I do this for all of my externals, and on each of my computers, so that Z:\ is always Z:\, no matter which machine I plug it into. Remember, each computer's OS must be set for this external.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

Are you using the Adjust Date and Time option or the Batch Change option?  If it's the former try the latter.  If you get the same results  launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import  the same video file and check to see if the same problem persists.

  • Why does my final cut pro is not responding every time I open it????!!!!!!

why does my final cut pro is not responding every time I open it?

As you give no background info nobody can possibly guess.
However, have you tried trashing the preferences?
Many weird things happen as a result of corrupt preferences which can create a vast range of different symptoms, so whenever FCP X stops working properly in any way, trashing the preferences should be the first thing you do using this free app.
    http://www.digitalrebellion.com/prefman/
Shut down FCP X, open PreferenceManager and in the window that appears:-
    1. Ensure that only  FCP X  is selected.
    2. Click Trash
The job is done instantly and you can re-open FCP X.
There is absolutely no danger in trashing preferences and you can do it as often as you like.
The preferences are kept separately from FCP X and if there aren't any when FCP X opens it automatically creates new ones  .  .  .  instantly.
