Does apple give support

my macbook pro and my life have been turned upside down by mavericks. not only was my mac corrupted when i downloaded it origianlly (the apple store redownloaded it 3 further times and then had to resolve to WIPE my machine!!!) but the repercussions have been various and ongoing ever since. the final straw came yesterday when i spoke to apple support in ireland - to an individual called 'Shane' who styles himself as a 'senior manager'. i took issue over the fact that various very important programmes that my working life despends upon no longer operate because they are not supported/recognised by mavericks. namely outlook (office for mac) which is till playing up although the version is good for mavericks, but also my old version of the very expensive PSCS. he actually told me that it was my choice entirely to download mavericks. yes - but when in the past has an apple software update ever caused such havock and becasue the track record has been exceptional to this point why wouldnt' download the latest software? Have a great day Shane.

If you look back in these forums, every OSX has been 'a disaster' 'ruined Macs' 'caused havoc'. But it is usually the same thing. A small amount of users have either destructive or non-compatable third party software installed on their machines that they have continued to drag into every new update and upgrade they have done, until it finally catches up with them. What did you have installed on your Mac before you upgraded to Mavericks? Did you upddate all your programs? Check for compatability?
etresoft  a long time contributer to Apple Support Communities wrote a very useful app he called etrecheck which helps in diagnosing many problems caused by third party installs etc.. Go to his website, read his information and from there download and run the program according to his instructions

Download and run it and post the results back here.

Does Apple TV support wireless connection to the MacBook Pro retina display in an extended display mode? What is the output resolution and is sound also transmitted across?

SB1983, by extended display do you mean mirror?  All MBP since early 2011 support it if they are running OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion.  The resolution will depend on your Apple TV (2 Gen is 720 and 3rd Gen 1080) and wifi, it will lose some quality but I find it minimal.  It does also mirror the sound.

  • Why, when MobileMe was shuttered, does Apple NOT support calendar subscriptions for iCal (Calendar)?  I upgraded to Mountain Lion and cannot migrate my Dutch, U.K., Islamic, or Catholic holiday subscriptions.

Why, when MobileMe was shuttered, does Apple NOT support calendar subscriptions for iCal (Calendar)?
I upgraded to Mountain Lion and cannot migrate my Dutch, U.K., Islamic, or Catholic holiday subscriptions.  I had a heck of a time getting my Detroit Tigers Baseball team schedules migrated (but Major League Baseball supported the subscriptions, so it occurred).  As I work internationally, having these calendar subscriptions on the new Calendar would be very useful.
If one goes to the Apple site, and seeks calendars [http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/calendars/index1.html], they are shunted to MobileMe [https://www.icloud.com/mobileme/not_found/], with the note "MobileMe is closed. Go to iCloud."  But, I do not see how to get subscriptions from iCloud.
    Thanks.

The problem is that many of these calendars were hosted on MobileMe. I actually tried about 20 at random, and only two worked! Not all of the failures were ex-MobileMe, some were on other servers but produced 'File Not Found'.
Strangely, this one worked despite its URL:
    http://ical.mac.com/ical/UK32Holidays.ics
Until the people who publish these calendars (it's not Apple, they are third-party) wake up and find alternative servers these calendars are not available.
There may be other sources which work - try Googling.

Is there any quality App for the iPhone 4S similar to Google Wallet or does Apple now support Google Wallet?  thanks

    SOLVED!!!!!
    This is the app:
    https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/dictionary.appender/id650562573?mt=8
I emailed the maker of the app and he said to just follow these instructions:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4094
File share the .dictionary file to your ipad and then add it from the list of addable languages.  It took a minute for it to show up on my ipad but it DID work.  It is working with iBooks.
    Happy reading.
Thanks for the help and suggestions.

  • Does Apple Still Support FCP7 Software Updates?

I'm selling a Mac Pro and after wiping it clean of my identity, I want to install FCP7 from the original disks. Does Apple still support software updates, or do they reside somewhere?

Use the Software Update and you can find it.  Or...
I googled "fcp 7.0.3 update download" and got this:

    Google is great!

  • What types of audio surround sound does apple tv support

Does apple tv support 7.1 6.1 or 9.1 audio surround sound?

Yes, just like content acquired from any other site, not all content supports surround sound and most supports 5.1.  I have never heard of 9.1.

  • Why does apple only support mp4 videos?

It's not really a problem, i usually use my friends computers to convert my videos since mine is so slow.
But why does apple only support MP4 and MOV formats? Why not MPEG or DivX?
I know they cannot use WMV because it is a Microsoft format.
It's just sometimes when i convert videos, the audio becomes out of sync or iTunes complains it's not playable on my iPod.
I would just like to know why?
    Thanks for your time.

If Apple chooses to go with H.264 or MP4 or whatever else they want to support, maybe it would be real nice if iTunes could automatically convert to those formats. So if I dropped my universally standard (and supported by most DVD players) DivX video clip in the library, iTunes would convert and format the video to an iPod friendly format.
So, let me see if I understand this correctly. You want Apple to pirate proprietary codecs from DivX and build them into iTunes QT access. Tell me, does this mean that Apple is working as your agent and you will be the one spending time behind bars or paying the fines. Or, are you saying that Apple should act as an agent for DivX and charge you for a version of iTunes with legal codecs installed. How about Windows Media? Want to double the cost? What about Real? Or maybe Apple should have different versions of iTunes -- one for you and one for the guy who lives next door who uses old Indeo files?
I have tried several 3rd party converters and they all suck.
Perhaps you should be more selective in choosing a converter or invest in a commercial product which is supported by the people selling it.

  • Why does Apple not support GiffGaff?

GiffGaff allow you to tether and use your standard data allowance, but Apple don't even recognize GiffGaff as a network - so you can't enable any kind of tethering. The only workaround appears to be to jailbreak your phone. Why does Apple not support this network?

    Nobody here would know that.

  • Does Apple provide support any longer?

I subscribe to i tunes match but it seems like a serious waste of time and money. Like countless other threads on here, my match doesnt work, and sticks on 'accessing i tunes store', 'sending information to apple' or 'updating artwork...' I have logged in and out, switched match on and off, and nothing fixes it.
To add insult to injury, I have tried to contact Apple support, and all that I get are messages telling me that I dont have the latest version of IE (when on my PC) or Safari (when on my iPad) and I DO have the latest versions of both.
Its not good enough - Match is a service that I pay for.
Does anyone know how I can contact Apple to ask for a refund. Seriously fed up with them - and having been thinking of switching to a Mac, this has convinced me to save myself £1200 and not bother.

Thanks for the help Michael. I've tried to e mail - but that's only added to my frustration. As I mentioned, when I try any route into support, all that I get is a page telling me that I am using an "Unsupported browser" and that I need the latest version of IE, Safari etc.
Using my PC I have a screen from IE support in front of me telling me that I am using the latest verison of IE.
Using my iPad I have checked on settings and have confirmation that I have the latest version.
The result is that I cannot get beyond that "Unsupported browser" screen - which effectively means that I have no means of contacting Apple for support. Hence my frustration.
Incidentally, this morning I finally got Match to work. I had to turn off Match, log out of iTunes, turn off music, and shut down every single device all at the same time, then go back into them all and log in/set up/rejoin etc - and even then I had to do it twice on the iPad. Its now working - but increasingly it seems that Apple devices/systems need rebooting in this way. My Apple TV has to be reset regularly (once every couple of weeks) when it stops accessing iTunes, or just freezes in download mode.
