No.  This can only be done by you, and only if you have enabled Find My iPhone before it was stolen.  If it was you may be able to remotely wipe it if it's online.  See http://osxdaily.com/2012/06/05/remote-wipe-iphone-or-ipad/.

Yes, it will do no harm, but it is meant for trouble shooting and you should not have to use it all the time.

  • I just purchased an ipad, and now my husband is seriously thinking of purchasing one also.  When we buy a book do we have to make 2 purchases of the same book for each ipad?  Or does Apple have the same arrangement as the Amazon kindle.

I have just purchased an Ipad, and now my husband is seriously thinking of  also acquiring one.  When we purchase books must we buy 2 of each title, or does Apple have a similar arrangement as the Amazon kindle?

If you use the one iTunes account between the two of you then you can both download the ibook onto your iPads - I have some of my ibooks on both my iPad and iPhone.  If you decide to have separate iTunes accounts then if you use the same computer's iTunes to sync to (with both accounts authorised on it) then you should be able to sync the book to iBooks on both devices.
If you have separate accounts and sync to separate computers then you can copy the ibooks between the computers via, for example, a flash-drive and add it to the second computer's iTunes (File > Add To Library). There is a risk that if you sign into the second iPad (or computer) with a different iTunes account and re-download one of its past purchases that the iPad (or comptuer) will become tied to that account for 90 days, so copying it over manually would be better than re-downloading : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4627

I'm still learning to use a Mac. I wonder does Apple have a similar "network diagnostics" like in Windows? If the answer is yes, where to find it?

  • Does Apple have an iPhone friendly site?

It seems kind of ironic that Apple website isn't iPhone friendly. Do they have an app or website link for iPhone compatibility? I often check these boards on my iPhone to see the goings-on of the day and can't help but think I'm missing something! Is there such an Apple app or website for any iPhone compatibility??

I've posted here several times using Safari and my 3GS. Aside from my incompetence with the iPhone keyboard I have no difficulty reading and posting messages with the screen in landscape. Of course, it's a whole lot easier with this MacBook

  • Does Apple sell the iPhone 6 unlocked?

Hi: I'm interested in buying an unlocked iPhone 6. I wondered if anyone has been able to do so from Apple directly?  I'm in the US, home of locked telco contracts, but prefer to have an unlocked phone so it's more convenient in my international travels. Can one buy from Apple an unlocked phone?
I checked with AT&T and they will sell you the iPhone 6 but won't unlock for you for a year from the purchase date. I guess that's to punish you for the notion of wanting to have a bit of freedom from their overarching grasp
    Thanks,
    Phil

Kappy: my remark that you characterised as 'silly' is hardly that. AT&T is charging me over $900 when the monthly payments for the handset are tallied up. I looked online, at least within the US, and that's still slightly better than the $1100+ I was seeing for an iPhone 6 on Amazon and a few other sites (note this is for a fully memory configured phone not the 32MB version).  So yes there is a modest subsidy, but no it's not $99, at least from AT&T.
I know that is some benefit, but you have to admit it's not much.
I appreciate your suggestion about T-mobile. They do seem to be the most aligned with more contemporary currents of openness and enabling the customer's value proposition while serving their needs to return value to their shareholders.  Unfortunately  for me, one of the areas that parts of my extended family lives in doesn't have great T-mobile coverage (at least not at the moment). Hence, I ended up with AT&T and their willingness to unlock the phone not in 40 days, but 365 days.
Thanks to everyone for the assistance. Very helpful.
    Cheers,
    Phil

  • How does Apple produce the iPhone demo videos?

Anyone who knows how Apple produce their iPhone demo videos (iPhone + hands)? Greenscreen or filmed realtime on the phone´s screen? I´m going to produce a demo video (Apple App) so any tips are welcome!

Yes to each technique. Each is used where appropriate or necessary to pull off the illusion of clarity and performance. Those are illusions and simulations designed to sell iPhones and iPads, they do not represent real world conditions or response or display.
So you get to do whatever you want. But for the most part, the screen image is placed into the shot of the device. Affecting a seamless chromakey into the screen reuires careful planning, tests, and superior acquisition tools. You wont' be able to do the same work using DV or a GoPro.
I've seen this question asked many times on forums for effects software like After Effects. The answer usually comes down to this: Are you selling your app or are you selling iPhones? If you're selling the app, figure out how to spend as little time as possible trying to make it look good on the phone. If making it look good on the phone is crucial to your sales effort, hire the necessary equipment and technical talent to do it properly and, if you are a good study, let them teach you how to do it next time.

  • Does apple replace the iphone logic board?

does apple replace iphone logic board if so how much?

If your iPod Touch, iPhone, or iPad is Broken
Apple does not fix iDevices. Instead, they exchange yours for a refurbished or new replacement depending upon the age of your device and refurbished inventories. On rare occasions when there are no longer refurbished units for your older model, they may replace it with the next newer model.
You may take your device to an Apple retailer for help or you may call Customer Service and arrange to send your device to Apple:
Apple Store Customer Service at 1-800-676-2775 or visit online Help for more information.
To contact product and tech support: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers.
    iPod Service Support and Costs
    iPhone Service Support and Costs
    iPad Service Support and Costs
There are third-party firms that do repairs on iDevices, and there are places where you can order parts to DIY if you feel up to the task. Start with Google to search for these.

  • Does apple have an iphone version of its website.

Whenever I go to apple.com on my iphone it gives me the regular desktop webpage.
Is there a mobile version of apple.com?
I find it hard to believe that Apple would not have a special version of their website for the iphone when so many other websites cater specifically to this device.

Some may not like to be redirected to mobile versions of web sites, but I myself like them a lot. They make it much easier to view the content on their web sites. In particular amazon.com has done a great job with their website (not to mention their iPhone app). The mobile version gives you all the normal features and the ability to go view the desktop site. The mobile version is easy to read and navigate unlike non-mobile sites where I end up clicking on links in lists that I do not mean to (like the apple stores list on the left). It just seems dumb that apple would not offer a mobile site even if it were not default to redirect you there.

  • Anyone on T-Mobile UK that does NOT have the iPhone 4S battery drain

    Hi,
Just wondered if anyone is out there who is on the T-Mobile network, and is not having battery issues with the iPhone 4S?
Every SIM card from T-Mobile I tried in my phone gives me the drain.
SIMs from other providers (so far, O2 and Three) appear to be fine (i.e. they FIX the battery drain problem).
Even had T-Mobile replace my SIM, to no avail.
Just wondering if it is the type of SIM they use?
Please leave a note if you are on T-Mobile, and whether you have the problem or not.

I thought it wouldn't be that, but I don't understand why when I put a SIM from another provider in, the drain immediately stops, and the phone works normally.
I have tried completely factory restoring my phone, and not putting anything onto it, just using it on its own, with the SIM in it.
The drain is still there, which suggests it isn't a problem with the settings for me.
Flight mode doesn't help - drain still there. Removing SIM fixes it instantly, or, as I say, using a SIM from a different provider. This is really strange.
Unfortunately I am tied to a contract, and can't switch providers at the moment...

  • Does Apple have the right to remove music from my HDD?

Not only are tunes I purchased missing from my library (the name, the duration, the artist, etc. are still listed) but also from my hard drive. I'd downloaded a free album and it appeared in my library for a while and then, after an recent update to iTunes, it and many other tunes are missing from my library and hard drive.

I'm not sure that's the right question. For instance, when you sync an iPod, iTunes will be adding and removing files from the iPod's hard drive as a normal part of the operation. I'm fairly certain however, that the Software License Agreement that you acknowlegded when you installed iTunes will absolve Apple of liability for any loss of data that may occur directly or indirectly through the use of their software. It is your responsibiliity to back up any and all data that matters to you.
When you say the files are missing, do you mean that there are entries in the library that come up with the exclamation symbol or that the entries themselves have been removed? Have you actually tried searching your hard drive in case these files not been migrated properly and are simply not where iTunes now expects them to be?
    *Adding new items/removing orphans*
Try iTunes Folder Watch or iTunes Library Updater. Folder Watch is much faster on the adding files front, can be set to run in the background and includes a useful exclusion feature, however it’s really slow at removing orphans. iTLU is better for this although doing it manually after looking at a list of proposed removals generated by Folder Watch is probably faster still. iTLU can also be set to update iTunes when you've used 3rd party tools to change tag info.
These tools can either be used directly or to guide you in the process of moving data to where iTunes expects to find it.
