Does Apple kill the battery at a set number of cycles?

The battery on my macbook pro dropped from 47% capacity to 10% at 475 cycles and additional charge/discharge cycles do not increase that number. Coincidentally (or not) my first battery also died at EXACTLY the same number.  It was still in Applecare when the first one died and the phone tech said ÿeah, that's about right."
Does Apple have a bomb planted in the battery software to force replacement at 475?

Batteries are designed to be able to have working the 80% of the capacity after 1000 charges. If your battery doesn't support that or you see that your battery is dying, the battery is defective, so you should take the computer to an Apple Store
Verrrry interesting.  What is the source of this information.  Is it from Apple or is it generic engineering data? I'm heading into Chicago in two days and plan to stop by the Apple store. I would LOVE to be able to quote their own specs if possible.

  • Does charging your computer too long really kill the battery?

Does charging your computer too long really kill the battery?  I have some friends who claim this happened to thair PCs, and my friend's iBook G4 has about ~3 minutes of battery life because of this.  Has Apple fixed this in later models or should I still only charge it until just as long as it takes for it to get filled up?

Mac power management is now, and always has been, very smart. The Mac does not over-charge its battery.
Batteries have a limited lifetime, and they eventually wear out whether they are charged daily or never charged at all. Your friend's G4 battery, if original, has lasted a very long time. It is not dying due to over-charging, it is dying due to old age.
For longest battery life, follow the recommendations in the article shldr2thewheel cited above.

  • Does leaving an Ipod pluged in kill the battery?

I have a dock/speaker combination for my ipod. I use the ipod with these speakers as an alarm clock, so i have to leave the speakers plugged in all night. Does leaving the ipod plugged in like this kill the battery? in some places ive heard that it does, but in others ive heard that it doesnt have that big of an effect at all. Which is it?

In fact, as long as your iPod isn't hot, the battery likes being topped up.

Help me my iPod nano does not get the battery life that is advertised

Which battery life are you referring to? Apple's website states the iPod Nano 6th Gen will get "up to 24 hours of music playback when fully charged". There are going to be a lot of things that can change that. Are you using the stopwatch or the count down timer a lot? Are you using the FM radio a lot? Any accessories that you are using with the iPod? These will all have an effect on your battery life.

No, actually draining the battery completely is worse for it. Batteries will only charge to what they need. You can see this for more answers. http://www.apple.com/batteries/

  • Does Apple Care cover battery replacements?

My battery has been having problems, like not holding charge as long as it used to and the battery percentage sometimes freezes. I asked about it before and I was told the battery in my Macbook Pro only goes up to 1000 cycles and I'm at 937, so my battery is seeing its end soon.  I've had this macbook since January 2013. I have been reading the Apple Care information and I can't find where exactly it addresses this issue. Does Apple Care cover battery replacements for cycle counts like this?
PS. I'm learning more that Apple Care doesn't really cover anything. The more I read, the more I feel like I wasted my $250 on it to be honest. I don't see anything Apple Care truly covers unless it's a problem when you first get your laptop that manufacturers did. I'll probably will be moving back to Microsoft after this Macbook goes. Half the price and longer lasting without any protection/insurance.

Since the battery is beyond one year of use, it's doubtful Apple Care will replace the battery for free.

  • HT1222 The new iOS 7 update is killing the battery in my iPad. I have checked online and taken measure indicted to help this - but the battery is dead within hours. I am very frustrated. Can I undo this update??

The new software update - iOS 7.0.2 is killing the battery in my iPad. I have searched online and taken the recommended measures to decrease battery use, but within hours my iPad is completely dead. It would take days to kill the battery before this update. I am very frustrated. Can I undo this update???

This typically happens when some apps on the phone were interrupted by the upgrade. When it comes back up the app tries to resume and can not. You have to find and kill that app(s).
Do you have an Exchange account?
That is usually the culprit. Go into Settings and turn off all of the toggles for the Exchange account. Then reset the phone (hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons and don’t let go until the screen goes dark and the Apple logo appears). When the phone powers back on, turn the toggles back on.
Do the same for all mail accounts if you don't have Exchange or that doesn't resolve the issue.
If it is not Exchange/Mail then it could be another app(s).
With iOS 7 you can control what apps run in the background. Go to Settings > General > Background App Refresh. This will list all of the apps that can run in background. Turn them all off and restart. If this fixes the problem turn on a few at a time until you find the one causing the trouble.

  • TS1367 My charger connects with my macbook with a very faint green light (not the normal orange light) and can maintain the computer turned on but does not charge the battery.

My charger connects with my computer with a very faint green light (not the normal orange light) and can maintain the computer turned on but does not charge the battery. The power source to keep it on is the power adapter and that it's "Not charging" on the battery settings. And my charger seems to charge other computers fine.
The part of my mac where the adapter (L-shaped, magnetic) attaches is a bit damaged - a small piece of the white case/body around the part where the adapter attaches is broken off, but that's just an outer damage.
I don't know what's wrong with my computer, and if anyone has had a similar experience or knows what's going on, it'd be tremendously helpful!
    Thank you!!

    Hi Christopher,
Doubtful an upgrade would fix a hardware issue. If you are thinking of upgarding to Lion, best to do all necessary maintenance first.

  • Hi, I have quick question about use of USEBEAN tag in SP2. When I specify a scope of SESSION for the java bean, it does not keep the values that I set for variable in the bean persistent. Thanks,Sonny

Make sure that your bean is implementing the serializable interface and that
you are accessing the bean from the session with the same name.

  • MIFI4620LE Jetpack blinking amber light--does this mean the battery is bad? Should the unit operate without the battery installed if plugged in?

MIFI4620LE Jetpack blinking amber light--does this mean the battery is bad? Should the unit operate without the battery installed if plugged in?

The MIFI4620LE Jetpack does not work without a battery installed, even when connected to an external power supply.
I personally think that was a dumb design. I would think the unit would use more electricity when continually charging the battery than just powering the unit it's self, but that's the way Novatel made them.
If your Jetpack works with the battery installed and connected to an external power supply, but does not power on with power supply disconnected, I would say that the battery is defective or worn out.
You should be able to go to a nearby Verizon Store and have them either test the battery or put a new one in it to see if it works. Then you will know if you need to spend the $$ for a new battery. OR if you always use your Jetpack at home, or in your car, just use the old battery connect to a power supply or your cigarette lighter and save the cash.
As the Customer Support person stated, the slow blinking amber light is a normal state when the Jetpack is turned on and connected to Verizon's service.
I hope this solves your problem.
