My current Apple ID, for which all of my content has been downoaded (e.g., music, apps) is associated with a work email address that I will no longer have access to in the near future.  In my Apple ID account, I noticed I had two alternate emails listed, one is my .me account and the other is my .gmail account.  I use my .gmail account, and it is the primary email I use with friends and family.  I noticed both were not verified, and when I tried to, it said they were both associated with other accounts.  I was able to log into a separate Apple ID account I must have set up at tone point with my .gmail, and I changed the email address to a new one I created.  I also deleted the gmail account from any other Apple-relted account I could think of.  I am still gettgin the same error message when I try to add it to my current Apple ID: "This email address is already in use or you may already have an Apple ID associated with this email address. Please try again or sign in using your existing Apple ID."
My concern is this: with FaceTime and now iMessage, it seems more important than ever that I am able to use my correct email address.  With iOS5 beta, I cannot enter either my .gmail or.me accounts under "You can be reached for messages at:" as I get an error stating: Unable to verify email because it is already in use."
How can I remedy this issue and assign my .gmail account to my Apple ID?

I just spoke with a technician at Apple.  I hsven't been able to verify because the wife has the phone.  but he said all that you need to do is:
    1) Go to Settings --> iTunes Store and login with your Apple ID and pwd
    2) Go to Settings --> iCloud and login with your Apple ID and pwd
seems that the phone requires you to login to the store first...

  • Why can I not verify my Apple ID? I keep getting this message after trying: "the email address is alread in use or you may already have an apple id associated with this email address. please try again or sign in using your existing apple id"

the email address is alread in use or you may already have an apple id associated with this email address. please try again or sign in using your existing apple id............ PLEASE HELP ME

    Hi all,
I tried this and it worked:
    1) Visit My Apple ID at https://appleid.apple.com/.
    2) Click the Manage your account link on the right sideof the page.
    3) Enter the account name (Apple ID) and the password you used when creating the account.
    4) Change the email address associated with your account.
    5) Send new verification email
I also got this from apple CS for other things to try:
Please follow these steps to access your Apple ID accountinformation:
    1) Visit My Apple ID at https://appleid.apple.com/.
    2) Click the Manage your account link on the right sideof the page.
    3) Enter the account name (Apple ID) and the password youused when creating the account.
    4) Delete any duplicate email addresses associated withyour account.
    5) Click the Save Changes button.
If you do not have duplicate email addresses on your account, it is possible that your email address is already being used withanother Apple ID. In order to verify your email address with the current AppleID, it will need to be disassociated from your other Apple ID. You can do thatby following these steps:
    1) Visit My Apple ID at https://appleid.apple.com/.
    2) Log in with your other Apple ID and password.
    3) Select the Manage your account link.
    4) Choose Name, ID, and Email Address from the left sideof the page.
    5) Next to Primary Email Address, select Edit so that youcan change the email address associated with this Apple ID.
    6) Once you've made the desired change, select SaveChanges.
    7) Choose Sign Out from the top right of the page.
If you would like to have the verification email resentto you, please sign into https://appleid.apple.com/with the Apple ID you want to verify, and make sure there is not a typo in yourPrimary Email Address. Select the "Edit" link to the right of your email address to make corrections and then click the "Save Changes" button.Once the typo is fixed, or if there is no typo, click the "Resend"link under your email address.
If you still do not receive the verification email, please reply to this email with the email address that you intend to use onyour Apple ID.
    Good luck!
    Em

  • I just bought a brand new iPhone 4s from a Three store. When I used the cloud restore to put the data from my old 3gs onto the device, it's prompting me for an Apple ID login with an email address that isn't mine!

I just got a brand new iPhone 4S on a contract from my local Three store. When I used the cloud restore to put the data from my old 3GS onto the device, it's prompting me for an Apple ID login with an email address (hotmail) that isn't mine! My old phone has NEVER had any Apple ID other than mine log into it, and the new one's a sealed box that I've opened and set up from scratch. Can anyone please explain this? I'm worried there's some kind of problem with my iCloud data being mixed with someone else's or something... Since I logged in with my own ID, it's downloaded the data perfectly fine, but I just got the Apple ID prompt again a moment ago with this same hotmail address in it... I'd be very grateful for any explanation!

In iTunes on your computer, select the Purchased section under STORE in the left column. Click on the first track and choose "Get Info" from the "File" menu.
In the "Summary" tab you'll see details of the purchaser of the track. Click Next to go through all your purchased music one by one until you find the ones you need to get rid of.
Unfortunately, there are no smart playlist rules that can filter tracks by the purchaser that I know of.

  • Can apple provide me with the IP address of attempted log ins ?

Recently my account has been locked several times because I suspect someone has been trying to log on and figure out my password. If I call apple support, will they provide me with an IP address or location from where these attempts are taking place ?

    Still no.
Have you enabled two-step verification for your AppleID?

  • Updated Apple ID username with new email address.  Now unable to update iPhone apps

I updated the email address for my apple ID.  Now, when I go to update apps on my iphone it still tries the old username/email address and and authentication fails.  Therefore, how do I update the username on my MAC Mini, iTunes, and iPhone so that it defaults to using the correct username/email address to authenticate to my apple ID account?
    Thanks

So basically, I cannot change the email I use as my login email for my apple ID?  That does not seem to make any sense?  What happens if someone does not have access to their old email?  I guess that is my real question, how can I change the email address I use for my apple ID and still use all my applications?

    Hello, Wyseup.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Most likely this email address has been attempted to be setup as an Apple ID at some point.  You can reset your Apple ID password via the steps in the first article below.  If you do not have access to the email account, need assistance or are not receiving the password reset link, see the second article.

  • Does having a number in your email address reduce/...

My email address is [email protected]
BT also gave me another one: (me)@btopenworld.com in the days when their retail and wholsesale arms were competing. I can receive emails on both but outgoing emails show the openworld address - not a problem.
I frequently receive spam/phishing emails shopwing they were sent to dozens of people with names close to mine - presumably the sources of these emails have a system that simply goes through the alphabet.
I have decided to change my email address. If I used "aaa.nnnn@" i.e. a combination of alpha & numeric, might this reduce or even stop me receiving spam/phishing?
Or to put it a simpler way - does any forum member with an email address with both alpha & numeric in it get spam/phishing emails?

Theoretically, the addresses least likely to get spam are those which:
Are very hard to guess and
Are given out to as few people as possible
    (numbered lists still broken)

What a mess the Apple ID, and associating emails, ID etc has got itself in
I have a new iPad but after 2 days of trying all sorts still can't sync it because it is says it is associated to the other via the iCloud
I can't use my alternate email address to setup a new Apple ID account as it says it's already used or associated, but I haven't knowingly done anything
One message says "This email address is already in use or you may already have an Apple ID associated with this email address. Please try again or sign in using your existing Apple ID."
I am at a complete loss on what to do

The Apple Support Communities are an international user to user technical support forum. As a man from Mexico, Spanish is my native tongue. I do not speak English very well, however, I do write in English with the aid of the Mac OS X spelling and grammar checks. I also live in a culture perhaps very very different from your own. When offering advice in the ASC, my comments are not meant to be anything more than helpful and certainly not to be taken as insults.
It doesn't sound like you "changed" your Apple ID, sounds like you created a new one. Bad idea. All content bought with an Apple ID is forever tied to that ID. The ID that bought the content is the only ID that can update the content. Apple does not merge IDs not does Apple transfer content from one ID to another.

  • Someone registered an Apple ID with my email address

Someone just bought a new iPhone 6 Plus and has registered a new Apple ID using my gmail address (my Apple ID uses a different email address).  I'm sure they just typed something in the boxes so they could continue with the device setup and we just happen to have the same name.  However, I've gotten a few email from his actions (resetting the password, turning off Find My iPhone etc).  I'd rather not be getting these email.
I recovered the password on the account (since I have access to the email address he used) and tried to set a reminder and a calendar event for him (with a note to please create a new Apple ID) but I don't think he has iCloud syncing setup for his calendar and reminders, so I don't think he got the messages.  A couple of days later I got another email when he recovered the account password.  I also tried Messages from my iPad to contact him, but it doesn't look like he's gotten things setup yet as Message does't recognize the email as a valid Message account.
Any suggestions on what my next steps are?
    Thanks!

I received a phishing mail today from a fake id.apple.com account. It was sent to my work email, which I do not use as an Apple ID. But I got curious and found out that my work email indeed IS in use as an Apple ID.
I tried the "forgot your password" function and got a notice saying that Apple has sent a message to the email connected with that account. But I didn't receive it. Then I tried to answer the security questions, and it didn't accept my birth date.
So, SOMEONE has opened an Apple account with my work email (which features my full name), but all mail traffic is rerouted to another email account.
How can I stop them from using my name/email?

Apple ID has my old email address. It will not allow me to change the address and will not accept my password or ID questions.   I recently upgraded to OSX Yosemite 10.10.1.  I also have an Apple ID that works with iTunes and would like to keep it as my primary.

To change the iCloud ID on your devices you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password for the old ID when prompted (if using iOS 7), then sign back in with your current ID.
If you don't know the password for your old ID, or if it isn't accepted, you will have to temporarily recreate it in order to delete the existing account.  To do this, go to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iPhone on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll.  When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

  • Multiple Apple IDs with one email address?

I want to set up an iTunes account for my son in order to keep his music and apps separate from mine.  But I want to keep it under my email address and credit card.  Can you have more than one iTunes account on one email address?  If so, do I just create an Apple ID that isn't an email address?
Thanks in advance for your help.
    -Brian

This forum is for questions from those managing sites on iTunes U, Apple's service for colleges and universities to post educational material in the iTunes Store. You'll be most likely to get help with this issue if you ask in the general iTunes for Mac forums.
Answering quickly, though, to the best of my knowledge you cannot create an Apple ID using the same email address you used to create a previous ID. You'll need a separate email for your son, at least initially. You can then change the email to which receipts, etc. are sent and make it yours, if you wish.
    Regards.

  • I have two Iphones with different email addresses sharing one Apple ID. Will that cause problems with using messaging and FaceTime?

I have two Iphones 5 with different email addresses sharing one Apple ID account. Both are using IOS 8.
I would like to set up a new Apple Id for one of the phones and remove it from the old account.
If I do that, can I move all of the purchased apps and songs to the new Apple account?
Also, will sharing one Apple ID account with two devices cause problems with using messaging and FaceTime?

Sharing an iCloud account between two devices can be done without causing issues with iMessage and FaceTime, just go into Settings for each of these functions and designate separate points of contact (i.e. phone number only, or phone number and unique email address).  While that works, you'll then face the problem where a phone call to one iPhone will ring both if on the same Wi-Fi network -- but again, that can be avoided by changing each phone's settings.
Rather than do all that, don't fight it -- use separate IDs for iCloud.  You can still use a common ID for iTunes purchases (the ID for purchases and iCloud do not have to be the same) or you can use Family Sharing to share purchases from a primary Apple account.
