Place iPhone on Wall Charger for at least 10 minutes. Then keep on charger and Reset, hold both home and power buttons until the iPhone begins to start, this can take about 20 seconds of holding both buttons while on charger. If still problem, open iTunes 10.7 on computer, connect iPhone to computer with USB Cable, hold both home and power buttons for about 20 seconds until iTunes recognizes iPhone in Recovery Mode, then click Restore button of iTunes. If still problem, try DFU Mode Restore, here are the steps. Open iTunes on computer. Connect iPhone to computer with USB cable. Why does my 4s keep returning tot the boot screen (apple logo) when I press the home button to see the lock screen?

3 or 4 times since I first fired up my iPhone 4S yesterday, it has displayed the boot screen (apple logo) when I press the Home button to display the lock screen. After 10-20 seconds the phone displays the lock screen, but at that point it has to search for a cell signal (as if the phone just booted up), which takes another 20-30 seconds.
Is anyone else having this issue?
Another thing that has happened only once, but that seems related, is that when I clicked the lock button on the top of the phone, the phone displayed the spinning circle that usually displays when an iPhone or iPad is shutting down.
Any ideas on what MIT be causing this?

I just wanted to add a quick observation: after I tried the TM restore for the first time, Safe Boot in verbose mode seems to be stuck at this line "VBoxAdpDrv: version 3.1.0 r55467". This may point to the problem being a Virtual Box problem.
I use Virtual Box extremely rarely - haven't used it in many months. After a re-install, I'm going to remove it and then try the upgrade. If it works, then we've probably found the culprit. If it is real, Apple should maybe add a line saying Virtual Box known to cause problems with this upgrade (or fix it ).

I agree with fanboy512, it's always a case-by-case basis. Technically, however, Apple will only cover something if it's eligible and within the one-year limited warranty or the three-year AppleCare agreement timeline. There's always extenuating circumstances and that's where it comes down to the case-by-case basis.
At 1,000 cycles, you'd have to put almost a cycle a day on the battery within the three-year AppleCare agreement timeline which for most users is not very practical.

When you plug it in to iTunes does it show up under devices? Try restoring it. That's the best thing you can do if you're out of warrenty

If you decide that you want to Restore the iPhone Firmware then. Open iTunes on computer, connect iPhone to computer with USB cable. Why does Apple lock my phone to the first SIM I activate with? How to clear the IMEI?

I paid a premium to purchase a unlocked iPhone direct from Apple Canada so that I could use this phone around the world with various SIM cards. As it turns out however, Apple locks this phone upon the initial activation with the SIM I had installed for the activation. The result is that I can receive calls, send/receive SMS but cannot send calls.
Apple tells me that its Rogers I need to talk to. Rogers wants $60 to unlock my phone and tell Apple's IMEI database that this phone is legit. So why can't Apple register my IMEI directly in their own database? I bought the phone from them, unlocked.
This is unacceptable frankly!
Apple advised to do a restore from iTunes with the new SIM and it should unlock. I attempted this after a backup, restoring from the backup, but am still unable to make calls.
Can anyone please advise how I can register my IMEI directly with Apple or how I can get this working again? I'm 5 months with a $800 piece of hardware that can't make phone calls.

iPhones which are sold subsidized or bought directly from a carrier are all carrier locked iPhones.
The only way to buy an unlocked iPhone is direct from Apple at full price. This is just the way it is.
As far as unlocking the iPhone goes it is up to the carrier. Rogers started to unlock iPhones back in December for $50 + applicable provincial taxes, which puts it somewhere close to $60. This is a service that Rogers offers and has nothing to do with Apple. Yes the IMEI number is added to town Apple server somewhere but the service is to do with Rogers. If you are having issues with the unlocking process then you need to contact Rogers.
Once the IMEI number has been sent in you should be able to connect your iPhone to iTunes and do one of two things. You can restore the iPhone with the original SIM. You should get a message saying the iPhone is unlocked with the restore is completed. Second option is to install a sim card from a differnt carrier and then connect to iTunes. No restore should be required if you have a sim card from a differnt carrier.
If you are not getting service with the new carrier and the sim card I would say double check that the sim card is working properly and is activated with the new carrier. You should be able to call them to see.

Go to Settings>General>Accessability>Assistive touch(in the bottom)
and switch the toggle on. You'll find now a smaal square around your screen.
Touch it aand perform the double click gesture with the virtual home button on the screen.
I think your Home button has been damaged.

Will Apple replace a iPod because the volume buttons are slightly stuck?

Just got slightly stuck suddenly. They still work, but needs to be pressed hard. Aren't they suppose to work just like the sleep button?

Itunes promted me to update my software and my iphone 4s froze with the bar underneath the apple logo. I pushed the home button and start for 10 secs. Now itunes is saying restore to factory settings, it says in itunes I backed up . Should I reset?

Ipod 4g keeps pressing the home button

I don't know how else to explain it. but it keeps waking up from sleep and going to the play/pause etc. controls. exiting apps and generally doing what happens when you press the home button a lot. what happened? Is it covered under warantee? I got it for xmas. there was no liquid damage btw
