Does Apple retailers offer service to upgrade processors for Macbook pro?

For instance, my macbook pro is running on an i5 processor and im looking to upgrade to i7. Does apple offer service to upgrade for you ? I'm just curious, I'm also wondering if people had even upgrade their processors themselves.

The processor in a MacBook Pro is soldered to the main board and is not replaceable.

I'm sorry, but Apple does not provide a downgrade path for iOS. Because downgrading is unsupported by Apple we cannot discuss it on these forums.

  • What is the largest hard drive I can upgrade to for MacBook Pro A1278 Early '11

What is the largest hard drive I can upgrade to for macbook pro A1278 Early 2011?  I have seen 750GB on some websites, but I would like a 1TB  I am looking for SATA 6.0GB, 1TB 7200.  Is this dependant on the physical size of the hard drive? I have seen a height of 15mm and 9.5 mm.  How do I know what will fit??

I have not seen any 7200 rpm 1 TB HDDs.  They all are 5400 rpm.  I would say that this HDD comes closest to your requirements.  Tomorrow, there may be others.

    souvikfromKolkata,
you’ll know as soon as the rest of us do if Apple decide to produce a new non-Retina model. My guess would be that they won’t do so, but that’s only a guess.
With Internet, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint representing your main usage, either a MacBook Pro or a MacBook Air would be suitable for you.

  • Will apple add 6MB cache processor for Macbook Pro 13?

I have been a PC user all my life. Recently I decided to shop for a macbook pro as my next laptop. For portability reasons, I want to stick to 13 inch models. While most of the hardware configuration seems very good, I was a little disappointed that the 13 inch Macbook Pro model does not have a 6mb L2 cache processor option nor a dedicated graphics card. The Air seems to have the 6mb cache processor but not the latter, which I understand considering the small profile of the Air. Does anyone know if Apple might release a juiced up model of the 13 inch Macbook pro with better processor and graphics card?

Nobody here would know as Apple does not discuss unannounced future products.

  • Does Apple TV support wireless connection to the new MacBook Pro retina in an extended display mode?

Does Apple TV support wireless connection to the MacBook Pro retina display in an extended display mode? What is the output resolution and is sound also transmitted across?

SB1983, by extended display do you mean mirror?  All MBP since early 2011 support it if they are running OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion.  The resolution will depend on your Apple TV (2 Gen is 720 and 3rd Gen 1080) and wifi, it will lose some quality but I find it minimal.  It does also mirror the sound.

  • 10.7.2 upgrade question for MacBook Pro 5,1?

i am currently running 10.6.8 on a MacBook Pro 5,1. i'm gonna upgrade it to Lion.
will this process install a recovery partition on my MacBook Pro hard drive? If so, how big?
after i upgrade, will I still need my install discs readily available, or can i finally store them away?
i am just trying to understand how life works after going to Lion on a MacBook Pro 5,1?
it seems that i will only need my original discs for the Apple Hardware Test. Everything else can be done via the recovery partition?
any tips? has anyone done this to a 5,1 yet?
    THANK YOU!

Yes, the OSX Lion installer will create a Recovery HD Partition in your HDD. It's about 650mb in space.

Although you won't need your install discs after installing OSX Lion, I always advise to keep them in a reachable area should you want to "downgrade" back to Snow Leopard or install your MacBook's Windows drivers on a Bootcamp partition. I have my Snow Leopard Discs in my MacBook Pro box for the "just in case" scenario.

As stated in the last statement, I recommend that you keep your original MacBook Pro discs store in a place where you can easily reach them for the "just in case" scenarios. I will just tell you to keep your original OSX Installation & Apple Hardware Test discs that came with your computer and the SL upgrade disc (if your computer came with Snow Leopard).
Although you can reinstall Lion via the Recovery HD, I always suggest upgrading users to create a back-up USB or DVD with the full installer. You see, the Recovery HD is stored in your HDD and it can become unbootable if your HDD dies in the future, therefore making it useless. Having a back-up DVD or USB installer, offers you a way to boot your Mac in case the HDD fails. The advantages of the USB or DVD installer is that you can install OSX Lion without the need of an internet connection; use it to install Lion on your other Macs; and have all the features of the Recovery HD partition.
To create a back-up USB or DVD installer follow the instructions in these articles:
    For a DVD Installer:
    http://eggfreckles.com/notes/burning-a-lion-boot-disc/
    For a USB Install Key:
    http://www.eggfreckles.net/notes/installing-lion-clean/
I own a MacBook Pro mid-2010 model and it runs OSX Lion fine, however I should warn that this OS has still some annoying bugs that need to be fixed. I would recommed you to hold buying OSX Lion until Apple releases the 10.7.3 update. After this release occurs it will release a OSX Lion installer that has that version bundled into it. This will install OSX Lion with the latest updates and create the appropiate caches for it, therefore eliminating the chances of corrupted caches.
Hope this helps and write back if you have any questions!
    Happy Computing!
    EDIT:
Forgot to mention that once you download the OSX Lion intaller it will launch automatically and guide you through the process. If you want to make a DVD or USB installer just close the installer and follow the instructions in the post. Under normal circumstances, the OSX Lion installer will delete itself one once the update is finished.

  • What is the cheapest way to upgrade memory for Macbook Pro

I want to upgrade my memory to 8GB in my MacBook Pro.
    Apple are charging $400.
I've seen this for £50. Will it work fine? If not, where can I get the best 8GB memory for a good price?

It was Kingston memory (KVR1333D3SO/4G; the newer batches are the same part number but are marked by "4GR" following the slash in the number).  I did not buy a paired kit as it was not in stock; this may have contributed to the performance drop.
The metric in question was Xbench's Memory Test, specifically the System > Allocate number.  Before the upgrade, I routinely benchmarked between 2.5 and 2.9 Malloc/sec (or a score of 750-800).  After the Kingston memory upgrade, I never saw figures above 1.6 Malloc/sec (or a score of 420-450); roughly half of what I had seen prior to upgrading.
Since installing my OWC memory (which came in a package of two sticks), the performance is generally identical to the OEM (Hynix) across the board.
    Hope that helps/clarifies my observations.
That helps a lot. Thanks very much for clarifying that. Yes, Kingston Value RAM is definitely not the way to go, as it has not been tested for compatibility, nor designed for use in Macs. See my other posts in this thread.
Kington's KTA line, OTOH, is tested for compatibility with Mac systems, comes in matched sets, and is very reliable.
AFA Kingston RAM, bottom line for Mac users:
    KVR = bad
    KTA = good

  • Problems upgrading RAM for Macbook Pro 13" late 2011

First, thank you all for your assistance.
I don't know if this has happened to anyone yet. I have a 13" late 2011 MacBook Pro that came with a default 4 GB of RAM. I considered upgrading to 8 GB and problems arose: I had stripes 1 inch in lenght distributed across the screen. I've done some research and saw that it was a hardware problem with the Graphics Card/GPU. I switched back to the original 4 GB and so far so good, no problems. I did notice a few key things:
Originally I have 384 MB of Video Ram in the GPU
While using the 8 GB Ram upgrade, it said 512 (called my attention)
It reverted to 384 when switching to the original RAM
In the tech specs section of Apple Support site about my machine, it says that the Video RAM is "shared" with main memory. No other knowledge on that.
Could the RAM upgrade affected the memory supported by the GPU? Why did it increase? Is there any solution to this?
    Thanks to everybody in advance.

It should - I've 16GB of RAM installed in my late 2011 15" and my built-in card now shows 512MB of VRAM. There might have been a problem with the RAM you installed. I would only buy Crucial, Kingston (not the 'value' brand), OWC or Corsair (again, not the 'value' brand).
Some RAM sellers simply have less than stellar performance using Macs. Make sure that you install the correct speed and specs as recommended by Apple.
    Good luck,
    Clinton
