Does Apple TV stream Netflix at 120Hz or 60Hz?

Does Apple TV stream Netflix at 120Hz or 60Hz? My Panasonic Viera plays Netflix at a better quality but they both claim to stream at 1080p but the Panasonic looks much better.

If you have an AppleTV2 its output is 720p max irrespective of the source material resolution.

Just tested it. Streams from Mac to Apple TV fine. Make sure you have clicked on the AirPlay icon (triangle inside a rectangle) at the top right of your Mac screen. You may have to fiddle a little bit with the picture settings so that it fills your tv screen. You have to be running Mountain Lion or Mavericks to have AirPlay.

  • Does Apple TV stream NHL games

Does Apple TV Stream NHL games ?

At least SOME positive news from NHL Support FYI:
There is an application for GameCenter live on Apple TV currently in early stages of development.  To date, we do not have a list of features or an estimated release date, it is doubtful that it will be ready in time for the start of the season, possibly around mid-season, but you are welcome to check nhl.com/devices periodically for status updates.

So, sounds like it's coming...but, I wish they had their act together so it's available at the START of the season...pretty lame...not exactly "growing the game" as I've heard Bettman talk about....how is it possible they thought it more important to offer NHL Gamecenter through Boxee before AppleTV? kind of a joke

  • Does apple tv supports Netflix?

Netflix was accessible until I updated the software. Now I lost access to Netflix, YouTube, etc.
Does anyone know how to downgrade the software back to the factory level?

Netflix and all other content WAS there on the Apple TV BEFORE I did upgrade.
Do you know what has changed in the upgrade that now none of the content is available?
No NFL, no YouTube, no Netflix, nothing...
Only "computers" and airplay is available now.
Is there any way to downgrade the software to its previous state?
    Any body can help?

  • HT202157 Why does Apple TV say Netflix is not available when I can watch it on my computer?

I have reset my Apple tv to factory defaults, but it did not ask me to activate it again.
For the last two days everytime i try watch a Netflix movie is says Netflix is not availble please try again latter.
I have also power cycled my apple tiv by leaving it unplugged five minutes and upgraded the software.
I was using it with no problem and am not aware of anything I did to hurt the configuraton.
Again I have reset and restarted and power cycled several times.
Not sure why it did not ask me to activate it again.
I can also watch trailers and get to the sign in page on other channels.
This is the first Apple product I have ever bought because I don't like the fact everything they have is propriatary.
I work in IT and there is a good reason why you don't see Apple servers in datacenters.
Maybe at an art department in a marketing company at the most.

I understand that point. They are mostly bought from iTunes. But, I can watch on my laptop, iPad, iPhone on an airplane or wherever without an Internet connection. So why the hang up on my apple tv, should it not just be an extension of my laptop?

  • Does apple TV stream VEVO reliably?

    Hi All,
I want to play my Vevo music video list on my smart TV, I have read that you can mirror the image from your device to your TV via apple TV, Im just wondering how reliable this is, for example, I want to have a party and would like my music playlist to continuously run for an entire 8 hours with no interruptions, freezing etc, does anyone know for sure if either apple TV 1 or 2 can do this? And do it well? :)

Its called AirPlay and many people have intermitant issues with it.  It is only as reliable as your WiFi connection and is generally lower quality.
Is there a reason you have to watch it though AirPlay.  ATV has a native Vevo app on it.  Is there some reason you can not just use that?

  • Does Netflix support the apple tv outside of the US and Canada. I can stream Netflix on my ipod touch in the Caribbean but wondered if the apple tv would be supported.

Netflix became available in the Caribbean and Latin America recently and I can stream it on my Ipod touch . I recently had a bad experience with a blu-ray player while trying to stream Netflix. I got a message saying Netflix only supports newer versions of this device outside of the United States and Canada. I wanted to make sure this is not the case with the apple tv before purchasing. Does anyone know for sure if Netflix supports the apple TV outside of the US and Canada?

"I got a message saying Netflix only supports newer versions of this device outside of the United States and Canada"
sounds like an error msg that the firmware of your blueray player is required for compatability

  • Does Apple TV provide subtitles on movies streamed by Netflix?

I am DEAF and need subtitles or closed captions for the hearing impaired in order to watch movies -- or TV. These are two different things. Subtitles typically are options found on the Disc Menu: English, French, Spanish, etc. Some Disc Menus also provide for Closed Captions. However, some Discs provide Closed Caption Information embedded in the Disc that can be read by a TV and shown on screen when the TV's Closed Caption option is "On". Just what does Apple TV provide from streaming movies from iTunes or Netflix? Can I get subtitles? Can I get Closed Options?
I have a new Sony LCD Bravia TV that has both Closed Captions and Netflix buttons on the remote.
The Sony TV also can connect to my Wireless network in which I have an iMac 3.4 Ghz Intel Core i7 processor with OS 10.7.2.

I have had subtitles with Netflix without problems  for aover a year. . However, recently I am getting closed captions if I have the subtitle option turned ( CC turnrd off) on on the ATV2. I turn it off, and they are gone and regular subtitles  in a foreign film are there, no problem. Answer for this quirkiness?

  • Streaming netflix through apple tv using airpot extreme.

I am having trouble streaming netflix through my apple tv using airport extreme router.  How can I fix this problem?

    What kind of problems?
Accessing Netflix from AppleTV or Airplaying Mirroring via iPad (which would be pointless as it's available on AppleTV direct even if it worked)?
Does other stuff like movie rentals, iTunes previews work ok?

  • Streaming Netflix: Apple TV x PS3

Can anyone help me figure out why the quality of the video when streaming Netflix using Apple TV is so much worse when compared to the quality of the video when streamed through PS3 and other devices, such as a PC or a Mac? This problem DOES exist and has been reported by others in this forum. If you have the opportunity to try and compare the quality of the video when streaming Netflix using your Apple TV and the quality of that same video when streaming from PS3 you notice a big difference. For starters, the PS3 system allows you to actually see the quality of the video being streamed from Netflix on spot, concurrent to the playback, in a scale of...
    Low SD
    Medium SD
    High SD
    Low HD
    Medium HD
    High HD
    X-High HD
...this possibility is native to the Netflix client on the PS3, you just have to press the select button during playback. Apple TV doesn't let you identify the quality of the video in any way. This lack of transparency is really frustrating, because users have to count on their bare eyes, without having a technical reference, to find out if they are getting the correct video quality they are paying for. We can't forget that usually users will make sure they build up all the necessary infrastructure to strem videos in the best quality possible, spending a lot of money in hardware and a decent internet connection. Another thing is that movies and TV Shows purchased/rented through the iTunes Store doesn't suffer the same kind of degradation in quality. They are streamed in full 1080p without hicaps in my network.  This indicates that the hardware itself isn't the problem, the problem has to be something to do with the Netflix client in the Apple TV, maybe there is indeed some kind of restriction to the quality of the videos being streamed. For those who always come with the same explanation that is has to do with the quality of the user's connection, there is a major antithesis to that, that is the same doesn't happen if you stream Netflix using other hardware. My iMac streams in real HD. So does my PS3, which streams in X-High HD. My Apple TV 3rd gen, however, degrades so much the video that it is forcing me to stop using it.

  • APPLE TV DOES NOT WORK WITH NETFLIX

APPLE TV DOES NOT WORK WITH NETFLIX, just a black screen and "Netflix is loading" message appears. I can´t even see Netflix´s home page or set up my account. Netflix is working fine on all other devices at home, but in Apple TV.
I have tried the 8.8.8.8 DNS trick, the turn off procedure, the manual IP setting, but nothing....black screen still appears

It started working.....!!!!!  (It seems someone back there is listening)
I "forced" an upgrade, I mean it showed "AppleTV is updated", nevertheless I re-started the system using the "return to original configurations" option. Then it updated again by itself to a newer version....and started working perfectly.
I have paired my apple wireless keyboard and it works fine, this way is easier to set up passwords or so (you can also do it with your remote).
    TIPS:
I didn´t change any language or video quality configuration (scared to do so)
I changed to ethernet (cable) instead of wireless
My internet plan is 6 Megabytes (it was the same while it wasn't working)
    good luck!!

  • I am unable to stream Netflix to my Iphone or Apple TV, from my wireless router . . . even though I am able to watch Netflix on my WII (also wireless) and desktop computer (not wireless).

I am unable to stream Netflix to my Iphone or Apple TV, from my wireless router . . . even though I am able to watch Netflix on my WII (also wireless) and desktop computer (not wireless).
On the Iphone and Apple TV I can connect to Netflix . . . it recognizes me and my account settings . . . and I can veiw all my recent programs and show titles, descriptions, etc..  But when I select one to watch I get a message saying:
"ERROR A PROBLEM OCCURED WHILE PLAYING THIS ITEM. TRY AGAIN LATER, OR SELECT A DIFFERENT ITEM. GO TO WWW.NETFLIX.COM/SUPPORT FOR MORE INFORMATION. (139)
Netflix support say there is nothing wrong on their end . . . that it is an Apple issue.  They see the request for the show, the devices are registered . . . but it shows 0 bandwidth to the device.
My Apple TV did this when I first hooked it up a couple of weeks ago.  Then after a few days started working with Netflix, for no apparent change . . . now doesn't again for the past couple of days (I think that it auto restarted the other night after a virus scan).
Very frustrating, and driving me nuts!  Has anyone else had and been able to resolve this problem?

    Troubleshooting
Apple TV2 update one day and netflix is browsing but not launching the actual content (error 139)
Ipad2 (another ios device) forces me to update netflix if I want to use it and I get the same error 139 on it.
**** now I have two not ways not working where prior to some update it was fine.
Nintendo Wii is still working ( mind you running an ancient version of netflix )  Dusted the Wii off and gave it to the kids use.  Now they are happy again...
PC is also still working ( using some other flash client ) but that's just of interest, we're not going to be watching tv with that.
My wife's iphone 4s is still working.  Odd.. still ios but for somereason I am not forced to update the version. So basically she could mirror stream up to the apple tv with it.  Nice feature of Ios5.  Later found out it is using 1.4 version of netflix.  The most useful thing out of that is that all 3 of the devices are Ios and it was actually the iphone with the 1.4 version of netflix that still worked!
I heard from a friend who was on a different ISP he was still working so I took my appletv2 and ipad2 over to my brothers house who is on that same ISP as my friend and both started working.  So the ISP is involved too!
Brought the appletv2 and ipad2 back to my house hoping it would maybe still work.  No dice   Broken again.
Searched the appstore for a decent packet analyzer and there isn't really anything.  I was able to sniff the traffic with my PC and also on my juniper ssg5 confirmed that.  Turns out port 80 traffic is actually failing and authorization is not happening.  The other clients do not do this...
Asked a buddy from work who used to work at the ISP if he could make a call to some one who might actually know what is going on.  He came back pretty quick and said yea they are trying really hard to get the beta patch in from Bluecoat asap.
So knowing that it was actually Netflix that changed when it hit 2.0 and in my case the ISP made the adjustment it's pretty safe to say this issue is going to be ongoing unless netflix changes again the way they authorize for licenses.
So that's the summary of what went right down the troubleshooting path but I'll tell what what didn't
2 calls to Netflix (useless... waste of time... they are too quick to blame anyone but themselves)
1 call to apple support (support call was going to cost more than it cost for me to change ISPs)
2 calls to ISP (through the normal means - regular support number)
So why is this intermittantly working sometimes?  If you are lucky enough to authorize to an IP address that is not cached they voila you are going to get an authorization / a license to watch the show.  Some people report after defribulating their appletv (reseting, rebooting, dns changes, you name it) they get it working.  Over the past month we all seem to have got it working for some period of time only to lose it a day to two later.
It's now been several days since the beta patch to the bluecoat and 4 of us who have been communicating on the issue appear to be online all at the same time for those several days and that is a good sign that we might be out of the woods on the issue.
Hope this turns into something helpful for someone else out there.

  • How can I stream Netflix on Apple TV

How can I stream Netflix to Apple TV? On Apple TV Internet setting shows you tube but not Netflix.

You'll need to make sure you have the new black small AppleTV and not the original one.
If you do have the new one, you can make sure to do any of the software updates from the settings menu (I think.. I don't have one to reference).
It appears under the Internet tab and is very clearly on the list.
