Does AppleTV work as a base station or router?

Wondering if AppleTV works as a wireless router as well. Can't it be set up like a base station? Don't see the logic in spending $300 just to not have to wait for netflix movies lol.

Resetting the password you will need to do for each device... the utility cannot even see those old units.
So you will have to do it for each one.. think it through.. because as you change passwords the others will lose connection.. so start from the express which are wireless extending .. change those first.. and go back up the chain.. as each one changes it will drop off the network.. until you reach extreme and change that. Then you might need to reboot the whole network to get everything talking again. If something goes wrong.. just pluck that one out of the mix and plug in ethernet.. reset and redo the setup. That is my preferred method anyway.. do everything in isolation one by one. By ethernet and then nothing goes wrong.

You cannot partition a network disk. And apple provided no tools for it in the TC itself. You can pull the disk out and partition it but that voids your warranty. (although done with care who is to know).

Mixing TM and data on the TC is worth planning carefully. They don't necessarily sit happily together.

At this point are you saying that none of your wireless clients can connect to the AirPort? If so, then I would recommend that you do the following:
I would recommend that you do the following as a minimum:
Power-down the modem, AirPort base station, and computer(s).
Power-up the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes to allow it adequate time to initialize.
Power-up the AirPort base station; wait at least 5-10 minutes. Note: The AirPort's status light may continue to flash amber after it has intialized. That is because, there may be some additional configuration items necessary, like setting up wireless security, before the overall setup is completed to get a green status.
Power-up your computer(s).
If the above steps do not solve the problem, start over with step 1 above, but then perform the next steps between steps 1 & 2. above.
Disconnect the AirPort base station from the Internet broadband modem.
While all of the devices are powered-down, perform a "factory default" reset on the base station. This will get it back to its "out-of-the-box" configuration and make setting it up much easier, especially if you use the "Assist me" process within the AirPort Utility. (ref:Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule)
After the base station resets, go ahead and power it back down.
Reconnect the AirPort base station to the Internet broadband modem. For the Extreme and Time Capsule, be sure to connect the cable to the base station's WAN (circle-of-dots) port.
Continue with step 2 in the first set of steps.
In this basic configuration, the AirPort base station will broadcast an unsecured wireless network with a Network Name (SSID) of Apple Network NNNNNN. Network clients, connected to the base station either by wire or wireless, should now be able to access the Internet through the ISP's modem. Once Internet connectivity has been verified, you can use the AirPort Utility to configure the base station for wireless security and any other desired options. Please post back your results.

Does Airport Express work with Airport Base Station (not Airport Extreme)?

I'm needing to extend the range of my Airport base station. I purchased an Airport Extreme to funcion as a repeater, but it's not working. Will Airport Express work with a (white) Airport base station. If not, how can I extend the range besides moving the base station?

Can someone actually tell me how to set-up the Airport Express (with my Airport) so that it will act like a repeater. Once again, this is an Airport and not an Airport Extreme.

Does ATV act as a base station?

Greetings.
I was considering getting another airport base station extreme to augment a weak-ish signal to our second floor. The BS Extreme is $179US and the ATV is $229US.
So with a small price increase, I'd be gaining a whole lot more functionality.
But, I need to make sure: when the ATV is installed, does it act like a secondary base station for just going online for email/web?
Seems like the way to go if it does.

I maybe worded my question wrongly so I'll try again. I have an Epson Stylus SX525WD printer which at present works wireless through my router and windows pc. I also have an ipad which I cannot print with through present wireless set up.
If I was too purchase a apple airport express base station would I be able to print from ipad and pc on a wireless set up. Hope thats a bit clearer

Time capsule not working as wireless base station suddenly

I have been using my time capsule as base station for wireless network in our house for some time and suddenly network is not working for all wireless devices in the house. Desktop imac is connected to internet via ethernet cable through time capsule and works fine so I know problem is not with cable modem or signal coming to house. Laptops appear to be connected to my network fine but when attempting to connect any site through safari or firefox I just get the spinning wheel thingy.

Check that the laptops are getting DNS and router (gateway) from the TC.. if not reset it and do the setup again.
What OS are you actually running on the laptops.. this problem started with Lion and is much worse in ML.. it is actually not a Snow Leopard issue which you list as the OS.

Airport Utility does not see Airport Extreme Base Station

Purchased Airport Extreme yesterday at Apple Store to replace old Netgear Router. Wanted wireless network to work with 2 identical HP Laptops running XP with SP3 and 2 iPod touches, and possible future purchases of iPad 2 and Apple TV. Installed Airport Utility software from CD on Dell Studio running Windows 7. Connected Airport Extreme to cable modem and Dell Studio. Ran Airport Utility software to configure Base Station but it did not recognize the Base Station. Base Station had blinking amber light. Did have internet connectivity on Dell Studio, and wireless internet connectivity on 2 iPod touches, and on one HP Laptop. No wireless internet on other HP Laptop. But wireless internet connection was unsecured and Airport Utility did not see Airport Extreme so could not configure it to make it secure. Contacted Apple Customer support. After 30-40 minutes of attempting several different possible fixes only able to use Airport Utility to configure Airport Extreme remotely, wirelessly, from one HP Laptop, not the Dell Studio that is directly connected to the base station. Now that the base station is configured the network is secure. However, second HP Laptop cannot connect to primary wireless network. I created password protected "Guest" network using Airport Utility, and laptop is able to connect to this Guest network. From reviewing forums am now able to configure Airport Extreme with Airport Utility by using "Configure other" on Dell computer. But utility cannot find device by scanning. Would like to find way to (1) have Airport Utility on Windows 7 Dell see Airport Extreme by scanning and not using "configure other," and (2) have 2nd HP Laptop connect to primary network and not "guest' network. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I completely disconnected the Airport Extreme Base Station (AEBS) from my computer. After the computer booted up, I verified that windows firewall was disabled, reinstalled Airport Utility and Bonjour, then reconnected the cable connecting the AEBS to the computer (to one of the three ethernet ports, and I tried each of them in case one was faulty) but not to the cable modem as my firewall was disabled and had no anti-virus software. I also reconnected the AEBS power chord. I opened the newly reinstalled Airport Utility software and it did not find the base station. Only when I used "configure other" was I able to access the AEBS. I recycled the modem again, but that did not help. I turned on the firewall, installed anti-virus software, connected the AEBS to the modem, the light turned green, and I was able to access the internet on the primary computer and the wireless network gave me internet access on my laptops. But I was still not able to have my main computer, the one directly connected to the AEBS able to see it, and configure it, without utilizing "configure other."
Also, any idea why one of my laptops can only access the "guest" network? When it attempts to connect to the primary network it will stay on "acquiring network address" for what seems a few minutes, then switch to the "guest" network and connect immediately.

Macbook does not see airport extreme base station

I set up my airport extreme several years ago. I recently noticed that, under "security," the guest network says "WPA2 secured," but the main network says "none." Is this a problem; i.e., does the main network lack security? Further, when I open the airport utility, it cannot find a base station.
What am I doing wrong?

IMac does not see Airport Extreme Base Station wirelessly

Trying to use my existing PC hooked up to Airport Extreme BS via ethernet cable, which works fine. I then open Airport Utility on my iMac and it scans for wireless devices but it can't see the AEBS (located beside it). Opening Base Station tab and there are no solid headers to click on, just the soft grey headers. I am fairly new to Apple product so if I've left any info out to further troubleshoot please let me know.
Eventually I would like to connect my Apple TV, located downstairs, wirelessly as well as use an Airport Express (wirelessly) to boost the signal if need be due to concrete walls and floors in construction of house.
I have OS X Version 10.5.8 (up to date), Intel, Airport Extreme Wireless Card.

Maxtor Drive doesn't work with Apple base station

Could someone help me out here. I have a Maxtor one touch 4 mini. Works perfectly when I connect it directly to my laptop, which a powerbook G4. But when I try to connect it to my base station, nothing happens. Any ideas? It is already formatted to MAC extended format.

Time Capsule don't work when change base station password

Hello.
I bought a Time Capsule in 8th April 2010. In August 2010 it begun report problems (the message "Finishing backup..." always appeared and backup never ended, beyond Finder crashed all time with the pop up message error - 10810).
In January of this year, the device just didn't worked. Actually, when it turned on just the Airport function worked. In 29th of that month I receive a brand new TC after I went to technical support.
But, in 17th April 2011, it just didn't worked. At all. And, for my bad, at this time, the garantee was expired.
What I did? Well, I restarted it with default configuration (many times) until can access the hard drive. Even erase the disk (after restore some backups when I had the chance).
Well, after this, It works again. But the TC base station password now can't changed.
Actually it can be changed. But, if I do this, the TimeMachine don't get make HD TC's avaliable. And I just don't know why.
I say this because after I restored, manually, the base station password to this default settings (password "public", without quote), it returned works normally.
But I want change this password, because all my backups will be visible for that one's that have a Mac and access my TimeCapsule device.
I think this product is the greatest Fail of Apple. Many people reclaims about it, mainly for its short life and overheating.
Anyway, if there is any people that could help me, I'll appreciate!

By the way, after I change the password for grab these screens I can not access my TimeCapsule HD again.
I'm trying (and trying, and trying, again and again) access it after restore to the default settings, but I haven't any sucess.
Ah. Now a message, like this "You are with the device default change. Are you sure keeping this?", appears when I try modify just the network password (keeping the original password device, that is "public").

Using AppleTV as an Airport Base Station?

Can I connect the ATV using ethernet and then use the AirPort part to extend the range of my WiFi network?
I'd like that, because my house is made from thick reinforced concrete and WiFi signals have a hard time getting through. Connected like this, the ATV would much improve the WiFi reception in the living room so I can have a better connection with my MBA on the couch (close to the TV is probably an ideal airport base station location for iPod/iPad/MBA).
