Does Automator Support Wildcards?

I have a workflow already in Automator and all I want to do is rename a group of PDFs but ask it to ignore 3 characters, ie. ipagexxx090929 - the 3 x's being where I want the numbers ignored. I though Automator would support 'wildcards' but am having no luck.
Any help appreciated.

Not sure if this would come under wildcards, but a *Run AppleScript* action can be used to swap parts of text around. Are there multiple divider characters, or are you just looking for the first one?
You should post your specific questions to a new topic so that it doesn't get lost in an existing one - I almost missed your question here since this topic is answered. Tiger's Automator is also a bit different than the Leopard ones, if your profile is correct.

Does ISE support wildcard certificates?

Hello guys,
My customer doesnt have a CA, but instead has wildcard certificates.
I will implement ISE in 3 different locations (each location independent and with all ise services). Havent look in dept about wildcard certs, but does ISE support this type of certificates? The certs i need is only for corporate users not to be shown with the ssl cert error when accesing ise portals.
If wild certificates supported, then will every independent site need to create a separate CSR for each one of them?

Cisco ISE, Release 1.2 supports the use of wildcard server certificates for HTTPS (web-based services)
and EAP protocols that use SSL/TLS tunneling. With the use of universal certificates, you no longer have
to generate a unique certificate for each Cisco ISE node. Also, you no longer have to populate the SAN
field with multiple FQDN values to prevent certificate warnings. Using an asterisk (*) in the SAN field
allows you to share a single certificate across multiple nodes in a deployment and helps prevent
certificate-name mismatch warnings.
For more information, refer to the Cisco Identity Services Engine User Guide, Release 1.2. Kindly find the attached PDF for your clarification ISE 1.2 supports wildcard certificates. Even I had highlighted the same on page 14.

Does Unix support wildcard searches like DOS?

I need to make my program (which takes arguments) to be able to support a wildcard char. when I first started testing this out, i found that DOS automatically takes care of the wildcard for me:
ie: java myProgram c:/Alpha/*.txt
there will be all the text files in that folder as my args array. Does Unix do this for me as well, or will I need to write code to handle this?

It is well recognized that the common UNIX command-line shells eclipse the Windows command prompt in power. Regardless, we must use the Windows command line to invoke the jre for our Windows users. A good developer cheerfully overcomes OS and hardware constraints.
Wildcards are useful as startup arguments to classes and for specifying JAR files on the classpath (-cp) option. My experiments and this forum seem to conclude that Java on Windows will glob its command-line arguments transparently to the developer. This is a helpful feature.
Java on Solaris presumably do this too (after all, why not). Of course, it would not need to: the UNIX shells by default do this on every command. The Windows Console does not do this, rather, the executables themselves must glob.
Can someone reference Sun documentation that confirms this? I don't know what to search for in order to find this. Without documentation, it is one of those undocumented features that might not be supported in future releases.

I like to create a 'journal' for my son's soccer coach.

I'd like to add TWO videos, running simultanousely .... = no so easy.
coming from the Video-Dept. here at ASC, my first idea was to create a two-track-quicktime-file (=very easy), and add a script/action/'button' which allows to select the track on display in that video.

I want just ONE track visible, but allow to switch to other at any givin' moment.
using a two-track.mov allows to keep both videos in perfect synch, independently, what the watcher does, rew/ff, no problem.

meanwhile, I got the info for next hurdle to go:
iBA is based upon QTX - which does NOT have the same script features of (legacy) QT7; and esp. the 'layer' feature isn't listed in AppleScript for QTX.-
I have to test first, if a QT7-script allows to 'tickle' QTX ....
sometimes wonders happen.
Still open for suggestions (aside HTML5 - this is unknown space for me) ....

If you are testing web application, It requires to have webdom.api imported and reference scriptservice in the class.

Does OATS support firefox 4 & manually install OATS plugin of web browser

I need to test automation on firefox4, but I couldn't find the OATS plugin on firefox 4 after I installed OATS.Does it support firefox4?
BTW, is there any way to install OATS plugin of web browser manually, so far, I need to uninstall and reinstall OATS to have the plugin installed on different versions of web browser, e.g. IE7/8/9 firefos3/4.

In the OpenScript folder, c:\OracleATS\OpenScript by default, there is an InstallBrowserHelpers.bat that tries to install the browser add-ons. I haven't tried it with Firefox 4, maybe just give it a shot?

No, the best alternative is not to install any commercial "anti-virus" products. They're all worse than useless, including Sophos.
Mac OS X versions 10.6.7 and later have built-in detection of known Mac malware in downloaded files. The recognition database is automatically updated once a day; however, you shouldn't rely on it, because the attackers are always at least a day ahead of the defenders. In most cases, there’s no benefit from any other automated protection against malware.
The most effective defense against malware is your own intelligence. All known Mac malware takes the form of trojans that can only operate if the victim is duped into running them. If you're smarter than the malware attacker thinks you are, you won't be duped. That means, primarily, that you never install software from an untrustworthy source. Any website that prompts you to install software, such as a “codec” or “plug-in,” that comes from that same site, or an unknown site, is untrustworthy. Does Timecapsule support WPS encryption?

Does Timecapsule support WPS encryption? I have a Canon MP620 printer/scanner that I want to connect to my wireless network. My Timecapsule is set up with WPA encryption.

WPS is not encryption. It an automated method to pass security settings between a wireless router and a client device. It is actually a big security hole.. I strongly recommend not using it.. but the TC does have WPS.
It is via the utility (which one.. 5.6 or 6.0 or 6.1 I do not know). Add wireless clients.
I have never used it.. on any router and in any computer.. due to the huge security hole this makes.. The idea is good.. poor people want security but are too stupid to follow a list of instructions, so make it easy.. just press a button and wham.. all security is done for you. But the moment you try that.. automatic security means there is another way for someone to hack your system.. you have provided a wonderful passkey 64 characters long with an 8 character pin code.. which is handled in two chunks which is dead easy to hack.

So end conclusion to all that.. you don't need WPS to setup your printer.. Use the setup disk, and manually type in the wpa2 personal passkey you have setup on the TC. (WPA is far less secure and messy as it is combined WPA + WPA2).

The Late 2009 model 6,1 has a Mini DisplayPort not the Mini-DVI. To see which model you have go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When the System Profiler comes up check the Model Identifier.

IE11/Win 8.1 error 'Your client does not support opening this list in windows explorer'

I hoping someone might be able to help with this frustrating issue.
I work on a project where we are using various versions of on-line SharePoint (2007/O365). In order to quickly drag and drop folders we need to often open the document libraries by using the 'open in windows explorer view'.
Using the same device, on occassion this works. But often it gives a rather unhelpful message 'Your client does not support opening this list in Windows Explorer'.
I've searched for this issue over the net and confirm that the sites are added to the 'trusted' sites area and that the 'remember you credientials' is checked on logging in.However, the searches do not seem to apply to IE11/Win8.1 or on-line version of sharepoint
(the suggested hot fix is not suitable)
Only this morning, using the same device I was able, for a short while to open in explorer view, and then for no apparent reason, it began to display the error message. I had changed nothing regarding settings or even closed the browser.
Do you have any support/ideas/fixes on how to resolve this.

follow the directions given above.... you need to add the domains to your Intranet sites list, not the Trusted sites list.
Perhaps you already have it mapped to your intranet zone....in which case make sure that you have unchecked "Enable Enhance Protected Mode" on the Intranet zone dialog in Internet Options.
If this is happening 'randomly' on client machines, then users are probably changing their internet security settings in Internet Options. Ensure they are accepting the default.... Internet Options>Security tab, click "Reset all zones to default".
Consult with your system administrators to find out if they are applying a custom security template for the Intranet zone... It may be removing the sharepoint domains from the client Intranet zone's domains lists.

Time Machine is capable of backing up to multiple locations, and can be used to back up to both a local hard drive and a networked drive (provided that that drive is in or connected to a Time Capsule or another Mac that is sharing it over the network). The catch, though, is that you can't specify different things to back up to different destinations. Whatever you exclude from Time Machine backups is excluded from ALL backups, and whatever is included is included on all.
So, get a large enough drive that you can back up everything you want in all locations, or use something else for maintaining the network backup.

AS I FOUND OUT LATE, LION DOES NOT SUPPORT ROSETTA, WHICH SUPPORTS QUICKEN AND CLASSIC AOL, AND MANY OTHER APPS. CAN I TAKE LION AWAY AND GO BACK TO SNOW LEOPARD?

I found out after the install of LION, that it does not support Rosetta, which runs Quicken and the classic AOL software and a myriad of other apps.
Can I go back to Snow Leopard? Is there a way to retrieve my thousands of saved E mails, which are saved on my Mac?
I still see the filing cabinet with my screen name but cannot get them to open.
Please help! Lion may roar, but the fact it does not support apps like quicken means it purrs.

I had the Apple store wiped out my hard drive and I restore my last hard drive downloard by first placing Snow leopard DVD in the DVD drive and holding "C" when turning on the machine then I follow the instructions. I am back on snow leopard and trying out two finance software to replace Quicken for mac 2007. I am trialing Quicken essentials and ibank. They are both compatable with LION. So when I am ready will download Lion again. Also, Micorsoft Office needs to be 2011 version for it to work on Lion

Apple IOS is the leader in graphics, photography. The advertising states it is usable under both APPLE IOS and Microsoft 8.1 windows operating systems. Adobe Support Chat Sooraj tells me on 02/19/2015 that i must buy two computers to have it operate on both operating systems. Adobe will not support apple's Boot CAMP allowing both operating systems.
