Does battery stop charging automatically

Hello,
I like to keep my laptop plugged in while using it.  Does the battery stop charging when it is full?  What is the best way to use the laptop.  Leave it plugged in when you can, or always run on battery?
Regards,
Randy.

ALL Li-ion batteries stop charging when they are full.  They have an internal micro-controller to enforce this.
I run my MBP down to about 20% charge left and then recharge on a daily basis.  The run time depends on what you are doing.  Heavy usage will reduce the run time.  Flash web sites, playing movies, maximum screen intensity, bluetooth on are all examples of things that will reduce run time.
Think of a battery like a bucket of water.  If you let the water trickle out it will take a long time to empty the bucket. If you turn the bucket upside down it will be empty in a few seconds.
In other words a battery holds a fixed amount of energy.  The rate at which you discharge it will determine the run time.  As the battery ages the amount of energy that it can hold will go down.  The battery will age whether or not you use it.  Regular usage will give the longest overall life for the battery.

  • Battery life: Does MacBook pro's battery stop charging automatically when it's fully charged?

I know that it is not good to leave batteries on charge after it's being fully charged becasue it reduces it's life span (the chemical reaction stuffs up...)
Anyway, I heard that some people were saying that it is ok to leave the Mac plugged in even after it's being fully charged, because the battery stops consuming power from the adapter automatically. Is this true?
Another question. How ofter you do guys charge your MBP? I have to charge mine once every day pretty much. It's a reletively new computer (i bought it on april). But now it looks like it's not even lasting 5 hours sometimes. I think I asked this before as well. But I'm still stressing about this.

To show the battery percentage used go to settings
from there click general scroll to usage and select
scroll to bottom of page for battery usage select on.
This will show the icon battery and the percent numbers on the top right.
When phone is connected to an outlet sometimes it does not always show complete charge. I do not understand why but it is what it is.
FYI I sent reply to you not to deggie. You can have your own satisfaction to reply direct.

  • G505s Battery stops charging at 60%

The battery in my new G505s stops charging at 60%. Clean windows 8 then windows 8.1 install. The lenovo site has no power managament drivers for windows 8.1. Is this because windows 8.1 installed the lenovo app on its own? Because it is on the computer and i certainly didnt put it there. This happened after i upgraded from windows 8 to 8.1. It was 100% before the upgrade and 70% after. The lenovo energy management program has two settings. Maximum battery life and optimized battery health. No matter which is selected, charging stops at 60% and says plugged in not charging. I tried doing the battery gauge rested and it doesn't work. I press start and it does nothing. I drained the battery to 0 then charged it up but that didn't do anything. The dust removal button also doesn't work. On  side note, what graphics drivers is everyone using? i have the ones from lenovo installed. It looks like they were updated a few months ago. Would the generic AMD ones work better?

Hey Guys, For all those who has issue with their laptops "Battery stops charging at 60%" Here's the solution: (These are the settings of my Lenovo ideapad Yoga 13, yours will be similar or slightly different) - Go to control panel- System and security (Category View)- Power options (Small icons)- There will be one option selected for your power plan.. click on "change setttings plan" of that plan- Now click on "change advanced power setting"- You now will see two tabs on the pop up window that comes up.. "Advanced Settings" and "Lenovo Energy Management".. - so go to tab which reads.. "Lenovo Energy Management"..- now click on "Enable Lenovo Energy Management"..- You will get another pop up window for "Energy Management"..- Under the Battery option which is in the center you will see 3 options..- Click on the centre one.. which has a "wrench" symbol meaning for settings..- And now click on "Start"..- Voila!!! Problem Solved..- Now battery will be able to reach 100% complete charge..!- Have a Gr8 day peeps!  Best RegardsFirdaus [email protected]

  • Satellite A30: while AC adapter is connected the battery stops charging

Using a Satellite A30 about three years old. Recent problem is that while the power adapter is connected the battery stops charging, the orange battery indicator goes off.
If you look at the Power Management Utility the battery poweer meter reads On Line, Discharging %
To get it to charge I either have to turn the machine off (completely or to hibernate) then remove the power cable and reinsert, then the battery light comes back on. When restarting the battery will start to charge up for a while and then for no apparent reason start to discharge.
If left the battery reaches 0% - the machine continues to operate while the power cable is inserted so its getting power ok, but of course starts to bleep when it gets below 10%. To get it going again I have to shut down and restart etc.
I have checked the bios and have the latest version.
I have cleaned around the heat exchanger the power socket and removed all fluff.
I am using a generic adapter as the original failed, but as far as I can tell its working normally.
    Any thoughts
    Richard

    Hi Richard,
Your problem is being caused by a loose connection where the AC adapter is connected to the socket on the back of your notebook. Any slight movement of the cable causes a momentary loss of contact and the power management electronics in the notebook are fooled into beleiving that the battery is no longer available, whereupon the battery light will extinguish and the notebook will revert to battery power even though the AC adapter is connected. As you have already discovered, powering off the notebook will return everything to normal.
I have experienced the very same situation with my A30-141 and have yet to find a solution other than to resort to powering off the notebook, but I have managed to prevent the problem from occurring by clamping the AC cable to the back of the notebook so that there is no risk of the power plug flexing so as to trigger the problem in the first place. This has been remarkably successful to date and I have not experienced the problem for several months now.
Obviously this is not a 'cure' for the problem but it does ease the frustration that it causes.
    regards,

my ipod battery stops charging in ios 7

    Not Charge
    - See:
    iPod touch: Hardware troubleshooting
iPhone and iPod touch: Charging the battery
    - Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use. Also. iOS 7 made the iPod more sensitive to defective cables.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • Tecra A3 battery stops charging after one or two seconds

    Hello
I've been using the computer without the battery for a long time. Now, when I try to use the battery it is completely discharged (it says 0% º capacity).
It starts charging when plugged but after one or two seconds it stops so it keeps 0% capacity.
Any ideas of what can the problem be?
    Thank you

    Hi
Are you 100% sure that the battery stops charging?
How did you check it? What is the status of battery LED?
If you plug the battery the notebook must be off.
Furthermore the charging procedure takes several hours if the battery is empty.
I think you have to connect the AC to the notebook and wait several time.
But if the battery will not charge so either the battery is dead or the notebook electronic malfunctions.

  • Why does iphone stop charging at 100%?

I leave my phone plugged into the charger all night because I use one of the many alarm clock apps as my clock/alarm clock. Each morning, though, the battery is charged only to about 93-96% (presumably because when it hit 100% it stopped charging, but the alarm clock drained the battery).
Is there a way to have the phone resume charging if it dips below 100%?
    Thank you.

Hi M to the C: Yes indeed the battery does stop charging at 100%. No damage will be done by leaving the charger attached. I leave my charger attached whenever I am near an AC outlet.
    Enjoy

  • Battery stopped charging; won't run from battery

A couple of days ago, my computer stopped running from battery, and stopped charging the battery. I can see that the level is 67%, but that never goes up, and it shuts down if I unplug the power adapter.
    Here is XBattery info:
    Installed: Yes
    Charging: No
    Charger: Yes
    Battery%: 67
    Max. cap: 4.400Ah
    Curr. cap: 2.271Ah
    Charge: 1.534Ah
    Voltage: 11.850V
    Amperage: 0
    Cycles: 680
    Flags: 41000005
Anyone know how I can fix this?

I have the same issue with my Powerbook G4 15" Aluminum (battery not charging and clock not retaining date and time). A 3rd party warranty company is trying to say it's the rechargable battery but I think it's something to do wit hthe small battery located on a daughter board on the motherboard. Can anyone verify this or does this sound like a totally different issue?
The battery was replaced under the recall less than a year ago.
    Thanks,
    Bob

  • Laptop batter does not stop charging

    Hello,
I have a new problem. The last two weeks I have been trying to solve a problem with my laptop (Pavilion dv7) battery not wanting to charge when battery had less then 9% life time left. I solved the problem by calibrating the batter again (although still not satisfied; battery does start re-charge when 9% life time is available, but when 6% life time is available it does not).
However now I have another problem. After re-charge the laptop description, it now stops at 99% life time available!! and battery continues on charging, even though it does not need to. In other words the laptop is now never 100% charged and  the light on the laptop that indicates the battery is charging remains on.
What can I do to solve this problem??
    Regards,
    Simon J.

Try to troubleshoot the AC power supply, system board and the battery are functioning correctly. If not,I'd guess there is break in the connection where the whatever it's called that the charger plugs into is soldered to the motherboard of your laptop. There's no good fix. It's a difficult thing to resolder. So you have a broken connection that will sometimes work if things are wiggled around just right. You might find a repair shop that can check the connection and resolder it, a tv repair shop would probably be cheaper than a computer shop. It really sounds like you have a broken connection on the motherboard.

  • 4s Battery Stops Charging at 100%

Since I got my 4s on Friday it's happened pretty regularly.
I place my phone on my charger at night right before bed.  In the morning when I wake I check the phone and it's charged to 100%.  If I leave it on the charger though and check back in an hour or two I notice that the battery begins to discharger (or simply that it no longer is being charged.)  The last three days when I've taken the phone off the charger the battery has been at 96%, 98% and 92%.
I'm starting to wonder if this is an intended feature meant to stop the phone from being overcharged, a bug with iOS 5 or a defect with my phone.  I'm doubting it's the later since I've heard from a few people already who are exepriecning the same issue.

    paulcb wrote:
It's not supposed to do that.  The device will stop charging when it reaches 100% but it should not go down if still plugged in.  Your battery meter may be off... try this... fully discharge (till it shuts off) and then fully recharge (100%) the battery to recalibrate the battery meter.
My observation is that the iPad charger output is reduced at 95 and stopped at 100%, the battery is allowed to discharge from 100 to approx 95% and then power is applied, this is identical to the behavior of a modern Mac portable with a magsafe charger. It's just like any other feedback system, actions taken by the supply (charger) are predicated on the behavior of the load (battery)
I would not be surprised to see the same behaviour on the iPod and iPhone.

  • Battery stops charging at 42%

My <2 yr old Powerbook G4 (15" Aluminum-case, Mac OS X 10.3.9, 1.5 GHz) was running great and had good battery life until 2 days ago, when I was writing a paper (using battery only) and it powered down for no apparent reason. After that event, it stops charging (power-cord ring turns from orange to green) when the battery reaches 42% of its maximum (every time!!) and then, when I am using the battery only, it shuts down without warning when it is somewhere around 15-20% of maximum charge.
I reset the PRAM and NVRAM and tried resetting the PMU, but every time that I tried the PMU (shift, ctrl, option, power keys) the machine merely boots up and continues on with the same problem.
    Help!
    Thanks,
    Stefan

One thing you can try is to put your battery into another PowerBook which is behaving correctly and see if the problems persist there. If they don't it's a problem with your PowerBook and not the battery.
Did you update anything around the time of your problem?

  • Battery stopped charging when Satellite C connected to the mains

My battery has stopped charging when I plug my laptop into the mains. It continues to lose battery life until there is zero charge and then shuts down. Only then will it let me re-charge the battery.
The only other option i seem to have is to switch my computer off, shut down all documents and leave it for 15 minutes before plugging into the mains.
This is obviously very disruptive! Can anyone help?
    Many thanks
    Marc

    Hi
Im not quite sure whats wrong with your notebook
Are you able to use the notebook without plugged in battery but connected to the mains?
If the AC adaptor is ok, you should be able to use the notebook connected to the mains only
Lets assume the AC adaptor is ok in such case either the battery or the power supply electronic which is part of the motherboard may malfunction
Its difficult to say if your battery is faulty this needs to be tested but I think its not worth to purchase a new battery just for testing purposes therefore I would ask an technician to check this before buying a new part.
PS: is your BIOS up to date?

  • T60 My battery stopped charging yesterday

I have a lenovo T60 thinkpad and last evening my batter suddenly stopped charging.
Now the only way I can work is when its plugged in.
When I look at the power meter, the battery charge shows up to be 0%.
can you help me with this?

I am now sure its a problem with the battery. I replaced the battery with another battery that was available at work and it works fine. Let me see if I am still covered under warranty for the old battery.

  • Battery Stops Charging at 97% - What does this mean?

I got a new macbook pro about 3 months ago. I am super paranoid about battery maintenance as I had for a years a ti-book with a dead battery and really didn't want the repeat annoyance.
Since I have updated to 10.5.1, my battery first started reading that it was fully charged at 99%. This immediately worried me because the same thing started happening before and then everything went downhill from there.
Now, it's reading fully charged at 97%.
Anybody have any idea if this is the beginning of the end?!
