Does Boot Camp support Windows 8.1 Update 1?

Now that the update is out is it safe to update Windows 8.1 to the Update 1 (since it's mandatory) or does Boot Camp yet not support it?

Confirmed... no problems.. install took a long time... but all is well.

  • Why does Boot Camp Support Software 5.1.5621 have AMD Catalysit Control Center in its update?

Before this Boot Camp Support software, the included drivers were for Intel. I have an iMac with Intel i3. But with the software update, it doesn't include a driver for Intel but instead AMD. That doesn't make sense. Anyone know the issue?
    Thank you

I was told to just buy OEM copies but my frustration is that I'm already $200 in OS's because of the information that was provided to me by apple personnel and told by a senior tech that this still can be done.
So to say I'm going to be S.O.L and spend another $100 (for a total of $300 and 2 OS's that are usless to me; because the first time i was told that i could use Windows 8 and when the drivers did not work i was told that Windows 8 is not supported by boot camp drivers at this time so i have to go buy windows 7) I might as well return the $2,500 system and just go back to PC and get a $900 dollar PC system.
I will continue to work with the senior tech that i'm currently working with because the other issue is that OSX 10.8.1 will not except the OSX 10.8.2 update stating that it is not supported by OSX which i was told "that's strange"

  • Does Boot Camp 5 not support Windows 8 Gestures?

I just did a fresh install of Windows 8 on a late 2011 MacBook pro. Does this updated version of Boot Camp not support the trackpad gestures?
I've spent a lot of time on Google but everything that I am finding is from 2012 with references to people trying to get Windows 8 working in Boot Camp 4.
    Thanks!

Thank you for the clear and concise answer mende1.
That is great that someone has created 3rd party drivers but that won't be a solution in my environment. I support several Macs in a very large corporate environment and we were wanting to run Windows 8 with full official support from Apple on these devices.
The way I see it, Boot Camp 5 does not officially support Windows 8 until they support this basic functionality. I cannot provide support in this environment to a 3rd party driver solution. I'll be sure to provide feedback to Apple.
    Thanks again!

  • I am working on a MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2009) with boot camp running Windows 7 pro 64-bit.  Windows crashes quite often now-a-days and I need to get this fixed. I heard that updating boot camp can help.  Currently I am running Version 3.0.4 (322).

I need to know which update(s) I can apply to help stabalize the system.

Typing the body of the thread message in the title, huh? -)

Only Apple could hamstring and tie Mac OS to Windows. There isn't any other than whether you can download the drivers into Windows (you can) but Apple puts a block on the installer setup even if your mac does not support it.
Windows 7 needs at least Boot Camp 3.1 and 3.3 is what you should already have. And you are not getting security updates if you don't have at least 10.6.8 as was pointed out.  --- you arent using Software Update as you should. And you should backup and clone Mac (and Windows) as well.
You need Mountain Lion to use Boot Camp 5.x which supports Windows 7 & 8 and 64-bit.
I would upgrade to Lion if you can realizing that Rosetta and PowerPC are no longer supported though.

Is there a download of the Boot Camp 5 Support Software if I'm not using OS X Mountain Lion v10.8.3?
Yes, you can download the Boot Camp 5 Support Software here.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1638
How do I use the Boot Camp 5 Support Software I downloaded from the web page?
The download file is a .zip file. Double click it to uncompress it.
Double-click the Boot Camp disk image.
Copy the Boot Camp and "$WinPEDriver$" folders to the root level of a USB flash drive or hard drive that is formatted with the FAT file system (see question below for steps on how to format).
Install Windows, leaving the flash or hard drive attached to the USB port of your Mac.
Installation of the drivers can take a few minutes. Don't interrupt the installation process. A completion dialog box will appear when everything is installed. Click Finish when the dialog appears.
When your system restarts your Windows 8 installation is done.
Note: If the flash drive or hard drive was not attached when you installed Windows and was inserted after restarting into Windows 8, double-click the Boot Camp folder, then locate and double click the "setup.exe" file to start the installation of the Boot Camp 5 Support Software.
How do I format USB media to the FAT file system?
Use Disk Utility to format a disk to use with a Windows computer. Here's how:
Important: Formatting a disk erases all the files on it. Copy any files you want to save to another disk before formatting the disk.
    Open Disk Utility.
Select the disk you want to format for use with Windows computers.
Click Erase, and choose one of the following from the Format pop-up menu:
If the size of the disk is 32 GB or less, choose MS-DOS (FAT).
If the size of the disk is over 32 GB, choose ExFAT.
Type a name for the disk. The maximum length is 11 characters.
Click the Erase button and then click Erase again.
Which versions of Windows are supported with Boot Camp 5?
64-bit versions of Windows 8 and Windows 7 are supported using the Boot Camp 5 Support Software. If you need to use a 32-bit version, you need to use Boot Camp 4 Support Software, and you must use Windows 7. 32-bit versions of Windows 8 are not supported via Boot Camp. • Boot camp support for windows 7 /2009. Now will be released when ready 2010

Boot camp support end of year 2009 has now been revised to the following
Apple is working to support Microsoft Windows 7 (Home Premium, Professional, and Ultimate) with Boot Camp in Mac OS X. This support will require a software update to Boot Camp that we plan to release as soon as it's ready.

And they ain't sayin nothin like Charlie Brown's teacher - waa waa waa waa waa.
    Actually let me translate:
"We are incompitent and inept. We are working as slow as possible given our distain for Microsoft. Even though we have the resources to develop these drivers in a few weeks, we are going to drag our feet hoping to frustrate our customers into using OS X even though half the software out there does not run on our OS. We are sorry you are a premium customer willing to pay more than anyone else for a laptop and you did so for customer service and quality. Unfortunately, we are going to totally ignore you on this issue".

  • Boot camp and windows 7 but window wont find usb to download support drivers

Used Boot Camp to partition, downloaded support onto USB zip drive, installed Windows 7 fine I thought, but in Windows 7 now it will not find my USB so i can't download the support drivers from my zip drive back into Windows.  No internet found either (probably because i can't download the support drivers).  HELP QUICKLY please!!!

Boot Camp in Windows has nothing to do with Boot Camp in OS X. So, there was no need for you to reinstall Leopard.
Since you're using Leopard, your Leopard disc will have the 2.xx drivers, which, (apparently) will not install in Windows 7.
You'll need to get a hold of the 3.0 drivers. The 3.1 update downloaded from the Apple site won't install without 3.0 drivers installed.

  • Does Boot Camp or Virtual PC support firewire for camera input?

I have found Parallels does not have a camera firewire driver. Has anyone found another solution in Windows XP?
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I believe that Boot Camp supports firewire cameras. In addition, the newest version (1.1.2) has support for isight cameras. This leads me to believe that it supports camcorders, however I would download the boot camp beta an try your hardware with the software you would be using on Windows.

  • Windows 7 boot camp support

apple said that it will have boot camp support for windows 7 before the end of this year.. almost 9 days til the end of the year and still no update. anyone knows anything about that ?

Thanks for the suggestion but I've already tried this - there was even a thread which suggested that I uninstall keyboard & mouse in OSX and then reboot in W7 and install the devices ther first (the rationale being that somehow OSX "reserved" the devices if installed there first, but that the converse was not true for W7). However, it didn't work!.
Just to clarify, Wireless keyboard & mighty mouse still work flawlessly in OSX. They appear on the blootooth device list in W7, but there are no related items showing in the services tab in the properties of each - and I've tried many suggested workarounds.
As for my installation, sound worked perfectly with no tweaking - I've seen threads saying that installing latest Realtek drivers can cure the problem!
Everyone seems to have different compatibility issues with what superficially seems to be the same hardware and software (obviously it isn't!) Maybe that's why Apple are having so much difficulty with the revised drivers, and maybe now folks will apreciate how difficult it must be for Microsoft who have to make Windows work with many hardware combinations.

  • What is the correct boot camp support driver for late 2009 Macbook for windows 8.1

I have late 2009 Macbook with OS X 10.9.4.  I want to run boot camp for windows 8.1, but unable to due to the fact that it can only run Windows 7.  What is the correct Boot Camp Support Software so that I can run Windows 8.1?

Thanks for the info, but unfortunately there is no current support software or update for my issue at this time.  I found the information under Boot Camp: System requirements for Microsoft Windows operating system.  Hopefully Apple will fix this issue promptly!
