Does bootable clone need its own partition?

I have an external with two partitions, one is solely for TM and one is for general storage. I am going to make a bootable clone with Carbon Copy Cloner and house it in the general storage partition. What I am wondering is if other things can be stored in the storage partition in addition to the clone, or if it is best to have the the bootable clone by itself in one partition.
Haven't quite figured out the answer from the other posts.
Thanks.

I will definitely play around some more with CCC. After looking at the program again, I think I noticed how to do it without erasing the partition. Thanks for the tip.
I guess another question I have is how often should I update the clone. Obviously the source disc will change fairly often, so I imagine regular updates of the clone are wise. Is there a way to do it without it doing the whole process (i.e. can it just update the changes made since the last clone)...?
Thanks again.

  • Does Time machine need its own drive exclusively?

    Hello,
I want to buy a thunderbolt duo drive from Western digital or use in my MBA. Is it possible to use this drive for time machine purpose as well as normal external drive for itunes and jpegs?
Does this work or does time machine an external drive exclusively?
    Thanx in advance

Time Machine will eventually take up all the free space on the partition it's backing up to. In addition, having your backups on the same drive as the original data won't help when that drive fails.

  • Install Windows XP in its own partition?

Hello, all! I have questions on partitioning for Windows XP Home.
I just recently purchased an Athlon 64 & MSI Neo motherboard, and I'll be getting a Maxtor 60GB Serial ATA hard drive soon. I'm looking for more speed in XP, so a coworker suggested I put Windows XP on its own partition, and data on the other.
    My questions are:
    1) How much space should I allow for XP's partition? After installation, will that many files be added to the partition over time?
    2) What are the advantages/disadvantages of giving XP its own partition?
    3) When installing data to the second partition, should I allow a Program Files folder to be created, or just install the applications' folders straight to the root of the partition?
Is installing Windows XP in its own partition the "thing to do"? Any information is appreciated. Thanks!

im not convinsed it makes any difference really
this time i never bothered my array is my c drive all 149gb of it
    and i see no difference
if you dont have another drive to back stuff up on then do it for sure
then you can format c but not loose the mp3 collection
but most cases a game loaded in another partition does not work right any way after c is reloaded and needs installing again any way

  • Yosemite damages its own partition on shutdown

Hi I'm having this issue since I upgraded to Yosemite where almost every time I shutdown my laptop (90% of times) I get the OS partition screwed, so in the next boot the Yosemite partition doesn´t show and the Recovery will launch. Disk Utility successfully recovers the partition (volume header need repair) and the system will load Yosemite OK
    The setup is the following:
MacBook Pro 7,1 with 8GBs RAM and Samsung EVO 840 250GB installed in original bay
So far I tried: reinstalling Yosemite from Internet recovery (3 times), enabling Trim and disabling kext signing policy, not enabling Trim, resetting PRAM and SMC lots of times, installing Windows 7 (bootcamp)
I'm sure this is Yosemite related because:
I can work with Yosemite for hours, even days with no partition issues at all (except for the killer-shutdown)
I can use Windows 7 (restarts, shutdowns) with no partition issues at all
I was using Mavericks with no issues at all

As Malcolm says, don't partition. You have a relatively small drive and partitioning will cramp OSX which needs a lot of free disk space to run optimally. The only reason I can see to put OSX on its own partition is if you want to have multiple copies on a computer. The other reason to partition is for convenience in making backups but that's going beyond your immediate question.

  • Should OS be in its own partition on a 40G drive?

After fighting with constant kernel panics in strange places (i.e., quitting Safari, booting Finder) I've decided to do an erase and install from the original panther disc and do the upgrades back 10.4.11 to see if that solves the problems.
I've never partitioned my HD, but I'm wondering if there is a reason to put the system in its own partition. If so, how much of the 40G do I dedicate to it?
I am the only user, so I want everything at the shared level and only my music and work files on my user space.

  • JSP error page does not displayed on its own, includes in the original JSP

Problem Description: - Exceptions in a Condition cause pages to fail to render.
The actual issue is, the JSP error page does not displayed on its own, included in the original JSP Page when exception occurs.
Problem Cause: As per the JSP specification when jsp content reached the buffer size (default 8KB) the page being flushed (Part of condent displays). The default autoFlush value is true.
When the page buffer value is default size (8KB), and if any exception occurs after flushing the part of the content, instead of redirecting into error page, the error page content included in the original page.
If i specify autoFlush="false" and with default buffer size, at the runtime if the buffer size is reached, i am getting stackoverflow error.
To solve the above problem we can make it autoFlush=false and buffer=100KB. But we cant predict the actual size of the page.
I found in one of the weblogic forum as no solution for this issue. Ref.
    http://support.bea.com/application?namespace=askbea&origin=ask_bea_answer.jsp&event=link.view_answer_page_clfydoc&answerpage=solution&page=wls/S-10309.htm
Please provide me any solution to resolve the problem.

Error-Page tags work best with an error.html pages. If you have an error.jsp page what I would do, and I have, is wrap my classes and jsp pages in a try catch block where you forward to the error jsp page and display anything you want. YOu can also do this with if else statements. I have used the tomcat error pages before but when I've implemented them I used java.lang.Exception as the error to catch not Throwable. I don't know if this would make a difference or have anything to do with your problem.

  • 2.3 year old iMac (27inch) Hard Drive failing. Does the drive have its own warranty?

My imac that is 2.3 years old is now having the S.M.A.R.T system saying the drive is "failing".  Does the drive have its own warranty? That's not very old for a failure and most HD manufactures have a 3 year minimum.  Now I wish I had bought the extended warranty period.  Shish.

Does an ipad 2 require its own data plan?

Yes - if it is a 3G iPad. Each 3G device requires its own data plan. You do not have to activate a data plan - you can just use the WiFi and get a data plan if and when you need it.

  • My Google Homepage IE recognizes an Adobe Flash and my Firefox Google needs its own. Also, I may wish to cancel my Firefox entirely...will anything about that conflict w/a Thunderbird Mozilla internal feature email program, and/or Gmail? Thanks.

Thank you for reading the above question as it is, plus: I lost my Thunderbird computer internal email feature & was new & did not know how to put Yahoo or other into that function. I signed up for Mozilla Firefox for my Toshiba PC laptop, really liked it, but do not really use it. I restored my Thunderbird program, using Gmail for it...the Yahoo had failed. If I decide to delete my Firefox will that malaffect my Thunderbird Mozilla? Also, for some reason unknown to me, my Firefox does not recognize to use the Adobe Flash in my computer and requires its own...'usual? (I just deleted one of two carried.) Thanks. Lynn

First, Firefox and Thunderbird are separate programs. You can use one or the other or both. If you decide to uninstall Firefox, that should not have any ill effect on Thunderbird, but of course it's a good idea to make regular backups of your computer just in case.
Second, Internet Explorer uses a proprietary Flash player, so you do need a different one for Firefox. If you visit Adobe's "about" page using Firefox, it will push the correct plugin to you.

  • Does Webcenter Portal Require Its Own Weblogic Domain

Hello folks, I am trying to install webcenter portal in a HA configuration but I have noticed that whenver I try to run config.sh to extend the HA domain the program errors out with a message about invalid template "CFGFWK-64056 - There is a problem with the template!".
Now whenever I run config.sh and select the option to create new domain the program runs to completion sucesfully.
So my question is if webcenter portal requires its own domain and administration server or if I can install it on a domain that is used for other applications also.
I appreciate your help and thank you in advance.

it does not require own domain, you can extend with your existing domain also,
try to extend the domain from start>webcenter configuration wizard,

  • Why does Merge Join needs its sources to be sorted

    Hi,
Can anyone explain why Merge Join needs its sources to be sorted ?
I saw an explanation in another thread that this is the way to not load all the data to memory, but isnt the data that is about to be merged already all in memory becuase the SORT component waits for all the rows to arrive ?
Why are there no options for Full cache, Partial Cache and No Cache like in the Lookup component ?

MERGE Join is one of Join algorithms in SQL Server needs sorted inputs and efficient for large set of records.

  • Does Firefox Need Its Own Flash Player Install?

This is a brand new computer. IE8 32 bit version works fine with youtube. I install Firefox 3.6.3 and youtube says I need to install flash player 10 (it's already installed !). Saw in this forum other people have the problem too, but no definite solution. One guy there proposed that maybe flash wasn't installed for Firefox. WHAT? I've been under the impression that the flash player installs once on a computer, and all apps that need it, use it. Do I really need to install a second flash player specifically for Firefox? And if so, how the hell do I do that?
Here is the related forum link where "wotu" (4th post down) says to install flash for Firefox:
    http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/forum/1/538231
== URL of affected sites ==
    www.youtube.com

IE uses a different version of Flash (ActiveX) thn other browsers use (the Plugin version), so yes you need to install Flash for Firefox (and Chrome, Safari, etc.).
    1. You need to use Firefox at the Adobe website to get the NPAPI version of Flash for non-IE browsers.
Download the Flash plugin from the Adobe [http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/thankyou/ Thank You!] page via:
'''If it does not start, [http://www.adobe.com/go/fptroubleshoot click here] for troubleshooting information.'''
On the [http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/support/index.html troubleshooting page] click the link at the bottom:
If you are still having problems, [http://fpdownload.adobe.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player_ax.exe click here to download].
    Save it to your Desktop.
    2. Close Firefox using File > Exit
then check the Task Manager > Processes tab to make sure '''firefox.exe''' is closed,
    3. Then run the Flash setup file from your Desktop.
    * On Vista and Windows 7 you may need to run the plugin installer as Administrator by starting the installer via the right-click context menu if you do not get an UAC prompt to ask for permission to continue (i.e nothing seems to happen).

  • Verizon needs its own browser

Verizon needs to make a download for the computer like MSN Premium had,. So you can set the default e-mail and home page to Verizon 3.0 . I keep having problems staying logged on even though I check the box keep me logged in for 2 weeks. And my home page keeps going back to Verizon 2.0 which is a very poor page. I have had Tec support take over control of my computer several times , and make several changes, but the problem is still the same. The problem is not my computer, but it is with Verizon. The default e-mail for Windows 7 is Windows Live. They need to create their own browser.

Speak for yourself ... if Vz were to create and require the use of a custom browser -- I and most everyone I know would be immediately shopping for another provider.
Vz is an internet service provider ... the dialtone to the internet that the browser uses, so to speak.
The browser is simply a tool which uses that service -- and there are many varied browsers just as their are tools that people may want to use to complete a given task.
Requiring the use of a custom browser is like saying everyone must have the same model TV set or only use a certain style of telephone (oh wait ... Verizon tried that once upon a time long ago ...)
The problems you describe sure sound like local PC configuration issues to me --- perhaps something is erasing or clearing your cookie settings or reseting the home page settings on your local browser configuration.  With respect to mail, if you don't like the way the Vz interface works, then use Live Mail to access your Vz mail -- the Live Mail client has a simple POP mail interface which will interface with Vz mail servers -- I'm pretty sure there is a configuration walkthru I saw here recently on the right values to use when configuring it ... if not, ask and someone I'm sure will provide it.
