Does Camera Raw 5.6 Update work for PSE 6?

I have a PSE6, and have bought a Canon Powershot G11.
Camera Raw update 5.6 includes the Canon G11, but the update documentation seems to suggest it can't be applied to PSE 6 on Windows:
Camera Raw 5.6 update page:
"The Camera Raw 5.6 plug-in is not compatible with versions of Photoshop earlier than Photoshop CS4, versions of Photoshop Elements earlier than Photoshop Elements 6.0."
But the ReadMe file says:
"The Camera Raw 5.6 plug-in is not compatible with versions of Photoshop earlier than Photoshop CS4or versions of Photoshop Elements earlier than Photoshop Elements 7.0 for Windows and Photoshop Elements 6 for Mac."
Am I right in thinking that my one-year-old copy of PSE6 (Windows version) is no longer functional with a new camera?  Or am I mistaken?
Advice appreciated -

Some of the Adobe download links are wrong and often take you to an earlier version of Adobe Camera Raw. The latest version is ACR 5.6 which brings support for the newest camera models such as the
Canon EOS 7D, PowerShot S90 & G11, Nikon D3S and others.
So don’t worry it will work. First you will need to exit Photoshop Elements.
To get the plug-in for PSE6 go to the link below - instructions are for Windows users. They will differ for Mac users.
http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/thankyou.jsp?ftpID=4626&fileID=4303
Download the plug-in for Elements 8
Open the zip folder you just downloaded and click Extract Files.
You should see a 64 bit folder and a plug-in file below it. The plug in has a file name: Camera Raw.8bi
Now drag the plug-in file (or copy it) into the File Formats folder in the following location:
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 6.0\Plug-Ins\File Formats.  See Gotcha
If running windows Vista you will probably get a pop-up requesting Administrator permission. Assuming you are the Administrator for your computer, simply agree.
I can confirm it does work as I have recently updated my plug-in for PSE6 using the above method. To test it, go to one of your photo folders, right click on a raw file (NEF, CR2, DNG etc) and select open with Photoshop Elements. The image should automatically open in ACR 5.6 giving you access to the latest slider adjustments, including white balance and exposure.
Note: If you have an earlier Camera Raw plug-in, I suggest you move it from the File Formats folder to My Documents before you begin. This will prevent it being overwritten by the new Camera Raw file (it will have the same name) and you can always move it back again if the download installation fails.
If you are using a 64-bit edition of Windows, then move the plug-in file from the unzipped download folder by navigating to:C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 6.0\Plug-Ins\File Formats.

  • Camera RAW 5.6 Update - OK for PSE 7.0?

    Is the
Camera RAW 5.6 update suitable for Elements, specifically say PSE 7.0 onwards?

Indeed it is different. But it appears to work fine in PSE 8.
The method I used below is for a manual install of ACR 5.6 for PSE 8 running on 64-bit system.
If you are running on a 32-bit system and/or are using PSE 7, it will probably be  a bit different.
1 After unzipping the ACR 5.6 download file, navigate to the
\Adobe Camera Raw 5.6\extensions\AdobeCameraRaw5.0All-xxxxxxxxxx\Assets” folder (ie, the top folder, not the x64 folder)
    2. Copy the 1003 file to a new folder and rename it “Camera Raw.8bi”
    3. Navigate to the “Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\Elements 8\File Formats” folder. Move the Camera Raw.8bi file to another folder for safe keeping.
    4. Move the file you created in step 2 into the folder listed in step 3.
    5. Return to the ACR 5.6 folder and navigate to the \Adobe Camera Raw 5.6\extensions\AdobeCameraRaw5.0All-x64-xxxxxxxxxx\Assets” folder.
    6. Copy the 1003 file to another new folder and rename it “Camera Raw.8bi”
    7. Navigate to the “Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 8.0\Plug-Ins\File Formats” folder. If there exists a Camera Raw.8bi file, save/move it as in step 3 above.
    8. Move the file you created in step 6 into the folder listed in step 7.
When you open a .cr2 file in PSE 8, you will be greeted with a notice stating that you are using a beta version of ACR.
Nothing like a straight forward install  :-)

  • Camera Raw 8.4-Update für PSE 7

    Hallo zusammen,

  • Camera RAW 5.6RC update

Is the Camera RAW 5.6 update suitable for PSE 7.0?

No problem. This happens all the time. First, Photoshop and Photoshop Elements get confused, and then there is Premiere, which has three main flavors: the old Premiere, Premiere Pro and Premiere Elements.
Also, there seem to be a number of "rabbit holes" in the forum, where one seems to be in one forum, but when they post, they find that they are actually in another forum. This happens a lot in the Forum Comments forum, as it seems that many of these rabbit holes silently lead there. It's filled with posts on Acrobat, Illustrator and InDesign - each with there own set of fora.
Good luck with the ACR update info,

  • When i try to update RAW i get this error message Photoshop Camera Raw 6.7 Update Installation failed. Error Code: U44M1P7  ?

When I try to update camera raw files in CS6   I get the following error message
    Photoshop Camera Raw 6.7 Update
    Installation failed. Error Code: U44M1P7
    What do I do?

Which version of photoshop and operating system are you using?
The reason i ask, even though you wrote cs6, is the camera raw 6.7 update is for photoshop cs5.
Did you try Help>Updates from within photoshop to get the most recent version of camera raw, which is 8.7 for photoshop cs6?

  • Does camera raw support the Nikon D5300, if not when there will be an update for this camera model?

Does camera raw support the Nikon D5300, if not when there will be an update for this camera model?

The asterisk next the model number on the download page linked above means there is preliminary support, which usually means the camera is supported by pretending it is an earlier model with similar sensor.  This can lead to color issues, so while you can convert your NEFs to DNGs with the DNG Converter, and open them with PSE12, now, save your NEFs and be prepared to revisit those pictures once the final release of ACR 8.3 occurs probably in the next few weeks, with finalized support.

  • Camera Raw 6.7 Update for Mac OS 10.10:  Installation Failed error message.

Camera Raw 6.7 Update for Mac:  Installation Failed error message.  Update downloaded directly from Adobe website.  Newly purchased Mac Workbook Pro, OS 10.10, using Photoshop CS5. Other updates successfully accomplished.  Camera Raw 6.7 Update was downloaded multiple times with multiple installation attempts. Any recommendations?

thanks for the prompt response...i appreciate it.  according to the link you listed, that's correct.  the strange thing is that prior to the upgrad to mac os 10.8.4, photoshop CS5 was working just fine and i was able to open my canon raw files with my current camera raw plug-in version 6.7 which adobe has indicated is the last camera raw update they'll be offering for cs 5
so it's clearly an issue related to the "upgrade" of the os.  seems like every solution creates 6 new problems...further evidence for the notion that if it ain't broke don't fix it!  thanks again.

  • Camera Raw in CS4.  I have applied the Camera Raw 5.7 update to my CS4 Photoshop. It works fine in Photoshop, but only shows the NEF icon from my DS3 files in Bridge. Any ideas would be gratefully received.  Many thanks.

I have installed Photoshop CS4 on a new PC as my other has all but died.  I applied the Camera Raw 5.7 update for CS4 to take care of the NEF files from my Nikon D3S.  This works fine when opening NEF file, but in Bridge it only shows the NEF icon.
If anyone has any ideas, I would be most grateful.

Purge the cache for the offending folder(s) through the Tools menu in Bridge.

  • Why does Adobe refuse to provide the latest version of Camera Raw (like my Canon 6d) for CS5?

Why does Adobe refuse to provide the latest version of Camera Raw (like my Canon 6d) that could be supported in Photoshop CS5 or earlier?  Its like Adobe saying you want a Camera Raw for you Camera then buy CS6 which is insulting to your customers.

Adobe's policy to to provide free updates (not upgrades) for currently shipping software, which means the current Photoshop CS6 and Camera Raw 7.x. Development on Photoshop CS5.x and Camera Raw 6.x stopped when Photoshop CS6 started shipping. While it may appear on the surface that's it's a ploy to force users to upgrade to the most recent version when getting a new camera, it's really a policy based on the technical issues of trying to provide backwards compatible software for application that are no longer being developed.
Camera Raw is a plug-in for Photoshop and as such, it is dependent on the Photoshop SDK in which it loads...it's also dependent upon the system level APIs being used by the applications. Could Adobe keep upgrading old software? Yes, but it would be a technical nightmare.
Your alternative is simply use the free DNG Converter if you want to use new cameras that weren't in existence when your old software was developed. Pretty simple really and it's not designed as insult to Adobe customers...it's actually an affirmative program to make sure current users are provided support.
The problem of new camera support for old software is really a problem caused primarily by the camera companies spawning off new cameras whose file formats are undocumented and proprietary. If the camera makers adopted a standard file format that could be opened in standard applications (kinda like DNG) then tis problem would be mitigated. You really should place the lion's share of the problem at the feet of the camera companies...

  • How do I update camera raw plugin on photoshop cs4 for mac?

I've just reinstalled PS cs4 on a new macbook pro - my camera raw files from a canon 5d mark 2 are not being recognized...
I found out that I need to update the camera raw plugin to version 5.2.  I downloaded the plug in and the computer said it successfully installed the plug in
but the camera raw files still aren't readable.... Any ideas?

This the manual installer for camera raw 5.7
Adobe - Adobe Camera Raw and DNG Converter : For Macintosh : Camera Raw 5.7 update
The profiles are installed by double clicking on the downloaded Camera_Raw_5.7 dmg and double clicking on the cameraprofiles.mpkg
Install the camera raw.plugin by going to (Macintosh hard drive)/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Plug-Ins/CS4/File Formats and dragging the existing camera raw plugin to the Trash.
Then drag the new camera raw plugin from the dmg to the same folder.

  • How to get Camera Raw 6.7 to work in Bridge CS5?

I've read past posts about the ways to fix this problem, but they don't work for me.  I'm using a pc with windows 8.1.  I've downloaded and installed Camera Raw 6.7 update and when I select "Help, Update" in Bridge, it says I have the latest updates installed..

In what way is ACR not working in Bridge?  Is there no right-click Open in Camera Raw available from Bridge, or there is, but the ACR version is less than ACR 6.7.1 or what exactly is the issue?
Also, if you open Photoshop and do Help / About Plug-ins / Camera Raw, is ACR missing from the list, or if not, what version does it say is installed?
You might also want to describe what methods you have tried to correct the issue, since saying you've tried what you've seen posted and they didn't work, isn't really much to go on.

  • PS CS3, Camera Raw 4.6 Update and Nikon D810 NEF File Reading Issue

      Currently Have Photoshop CS3 & Adobe Bridge CS3 2.1.1.9.
According to Adobe, Camera Raw 4.6 supports Nikon D810 NEF files.  I have downloaded Camera Raw 4.6 Update. When
I try to open Nikon D810 NEF files, I get Photoshop CS3  error that says
"cannot complete request your because it is not the right kind of
document. These NEF files wont open in Adobe Bridge at all.  What am I doing wrong?

    Hey,
Before I purchased, let me get your thoughts on another option that just occurred to me which involves:
1)Editing my D810 NEF files in LR 5.6, which I have, then exporting/saving the edited files as JPEGs.
    2) Doing any additional editing, as necessary (i.e. that might require layering or selections..etc) , with the JPEGs  with Bridge or PS CS3.
This method wont involve any additional software purchase now.. right?    Am I missing anything.   here?    Since my final output to my customers are JPEGs any way, wont this work?   Will I be at any disadvantage.   Am I missing anything.   here?

  • Where has Adobe HIDDEN the Camera RAW 8.6 update (again!)?

Starting with the 8.5 release, my CS6 version of Camera RAW no longer updates automatically. Nor can I find it anywhere in the update download section of Adobe's website. I just happened to find an obscure link to the 8.5 update after doing a ton of searches last June.
Now, the same problem exists with Camera RAW 8.6! I can get the DNG converter but it does not include Camera RAW 8.6. If I check for updates using Bridge or Photoshop, I'm told everything is up to date.
Please give me a SPECIFIC URL where I can download Camera Raw 8.6 for the Mac OS.

1.— I mentioned in my original note that Help >> Check for Updates says everything is up to date on my system in both Bridge and Photoshop.
2.— Also, I mentioned that I grabbed the DNG update today. I know the webpage says it contains Camera Raw, but it doesn't. If I load a RAW image into CR, CR says it's at version 8.5.
3.—There were many other users who had this problem with 8.5, too. I beginning to think Adobe doesn't really care for users who haven't joined the CC bandwagon.
1.— That just means your install is messed up.  It works on any properly maintained system I've tried so far.  Is Photoshop updated to CS6 13.0.6?
2.— After downloading, did you decompress the download and mounted the .dmg file on your desktop AND ACTUALLY installed the new ACR plug-in?  It DOES NOT magically get installed, you know.
3.— You are wrong.  Adobe doesn't care much about any of their customers, whether subscribed to the Cash Cow or not.
4.— You are not addressing Adobe in these user forums, so drop that attitude.  Your troubles are caused by user error and inexperience.
