Does canceling music library from HD also erase uploaded iTunes match library?

I am about to sell my iMac, where all of my music library is stored. I have an iTunes match account, with all songs having been uploaded or matched. If I now delete my hard disk library, will I cause the iTunes match library to also be erased when I will reconnect from a new computer? Thank you for your help!

It goes without saying that you should always have a backup of your content. But when you delete songs from your library while in the iTunes application, you get a confirmation window that also has a box you can check to "Delete Songs From iCloud". You would obviously want to leave this un-checked.
If you are simply erasing your entire drive or user account as a whole, this should not affect your iCloud Library. When you turn on iTunes Match on your new machine it will display the contents of your Match Library, untouched, and will allow you to download them to your new library. Hope this helps!

  • Will ripped music transferred from another computer work in iTunes Match?

The SSD on my Macbook Air recently died and none of the information was able to be recovered. All of my music is still on my iPhone and iPad, but I can only transfer my actual purchases back to my Macbook Air. My other music is on my CDs, but my Macbook Air doesn't have a disc drive and I don't have an external one.
I tried to use Remote Drive to rip the music from my CDs to my Macbook Air, but then I discovered Remote Drive doesn't have the ability to do that.
What I'm wondering is if I rip the CDs onto the Windows computer that has the disc drive, then transfer them via USB stick to my Macbook Air, will those files be recognized by iTunes Match?

    Yes.
Before you do anything you should immediately go purchase an external USB HDD, connect it to your MBA, open System Preferences > Time Machine and enable it. Use the tools Apple provides for you. If you are not backing up you will lose data again. It is just a matter of time.

  • How do I move music files from the startup disc to iTunes in the other internal hard disk os 10.5.8?

How do I move music files from the startup disc to iTunes in the other internal hard disk os 10.5.8?
The music I want to move was in iTunes but is now just files. I had to reinstall a new iTunes and lost all my old music.
    Thank you!

That article is about using your iPod as an external hard drive, to move files from one computer to another computer.  It is not related to your question.
You can't use iTunes to move song files from iPod to computer, except for songs you purchased from the iTunes Store (and you can also re-download purchases).  However, there are third-party methods and utilities that can move song files from iPod to computer.  If you do a Google search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get some links.
Once the song files are on your current computer, add them to that computer's iTunes library by dragging the files (or folder containing the files) to the iTunes window.  After confirming everything is there (and fixing the data issue you mentioned) you can sync the iPod.  You may want to do a Restore on the iPod, if it might have a data corruption issue, which will erase the iPod's hard drive, re-install the latest software, and set it to defautl settings.

  • HT3702 i want 2 cancel my visa from my account and us itune card pls help me

i want 2 cancel my visa from my account and us itune card pls help me

In order to take the credit card off of the account, you will need to open the iTunes program on your computer, pick the option for store from the left, and then pick account from the right under quick links. In the account you should be able to change credit card type to 'none' and/or add a gift card.
If you are doing this from iphone, ipad, or ipod touch, it will be under settings > store
if you continue having problems, you can contact itunes directly by filling out the form below. they will follow up via email to make sure your account issue is resolved

  • How do I play my iTunes music on my iPad using WiFi and iTunes match (my music is stored in the cloud).

How do i play my iTunes music on my iPad using WiFi and iTunes match? I don't want to download my music to my iPad.

But that's what I don't want to do. I think I must have misunderstood what was possible with iTunes Match and the cloud. I had thought I would be able to play my music directly from the cloud using WiFi. I didn't think I would have to download it from the cloud to play it on my iPad. I store it in the cloud because I don't have enough storage space on my iPad -- I can't download all my music because I run out of storage space. If iTunes Match doesn't allow you to play the music FROM THE CLOUD, but instead only allows you to DOWNLOAD IT FROM THE CLOUD TO YOUR IPAD TO PLAY, then it's not serving the purpose I thought it would. What's the point of storing it in the cloud if you have to download it to play it?
The only way I could imagine it working for me is if it possible to only download particular albums or songs. Or does your whole library have to be downloaded?

  • HT204074 will i lose the music on my decive if i enable itunes match

Will I lose the music on my iphone if I enable itunes match?

You will not "lose" your music, since:
    1) it is already stored in your computer
    or
    2) you have it available from the itunes store, if you bought the tracks there.
These two methods are the only options to get music into the phone, so you can't lose a single track.
However, if you chose to enable iTunes match in your device, it will erase the music that is already stored in your phone, and you will have to load it from the cloud. I assume this is the answer that you are looking for. Hope this helps.

  • How can I get only the music I want onto my iPhone using iTunes Match

how can I get only the music I want onto my iPhone using iTunes Match?  At present it is putting a random selection on; it has none of the same control as iTunes on my Mac.  And although I uploaded all my album artwork to iCloud, it is not transferring it back to my iPhone

Iphone are meant to be sync to one itunes library only.
You can copy those songs to a cd and then put a copy to your itunes media library.

  • Why does't Apple do this:  If you subscribe to iTunes Match, Genius is turned off.

Intuitively i wanted to be able to use iTunes Match & Genius Mix, what a great combo. However, If you subscribe to iTunes match, Genius Mix is turned off on my iPhone and iPad. The Genius icon at the bottom of the music app. is gone. I like iTunes Match only to find that using it takes away something I also really like ... Genius Mix... Why can't I have both!!!?

So, more info, if you have iTunes Match turned on, you won't have the option to turn Genius off, so that's probably what's happening. Here's an option that is reported to improve the situation, though maybe not solve it completely:
    - In iTunes under the Store menu, choose SIGN OUT.
    - Under the "Store" menu,  turn Genius ON and let it  sync. (you'll have to authenticate)
    - Turn iTunes Match back ON. (you'll have to  authenticate again.)

  • Why does my Music Library Location Keep Reverting to Unwanted Location?

I recently switched from PC to Mac. My music library is now located on an external HD connected to my Airport Extreme Base Station.
I've noticed that at random times the location of my music library changes from the external HD to my iTunes Music folder located on my C: drive. I reset the location back to the external HD, I'm prompted to move the files etc. and all is well for a while.
Keeping an eye on the music library location in the configuration settings, I'll notice the location will switch back to the C: drive for what seems to be no apparent reason. I have all the settings checked regarding Keep Music folder organized, Copy files to iTunes Music folder etc.
The only thing I've done out of the ordinary recently was point my music library path to a DIFFERENT HD. I have an exact copy of my entire music library on a second HD which I use when I go out of town and can not access my primary music library. When I got home I pointed the library path back to my original HD.
It works fine for a day or so, but as I mentioned, it seems to randomly switch to my C: drive. Does anyone have any thoughts on what I'm doing, or did, that is causing this?
    Thanks !
    Chuck

Thanks for the quick reply... Old habbits die hard when you're a life long PC user :- ) When I was refering to the C: drive, I actually meant my MacBook internal hard drive. I'm using OS X 10.5.2.
No worries. It's just sometimes people don't say what they mean or mean what they think they mean and it can slow down the process. Of course, sometimes I just don't read what people actually wrote.
I keep my external hard drive connected via the Airport Extreme Base Station, and always keep it connected ( in other words, I see it in the Finder SideBar, and it always says connected ).
Hmm. That should mean it's "mounted". However, I do have some vague recollection that using an Airport disk was problematic. However, the articles I read on that were back when the Airport Extreme first debuted. I'm not as conversant with using Airport disks as I just use an external USB drive connected to my MacBook. Sorry I don't have more wisdom...

  • Why does my music keep getting deleted from my iphone while using itunes match?

Ever since i started itunes match, gradually my local music on my iphone has been removing itself to be replaced with the icloud symbol. All the music is still there but it's removed locally. Today all my music was suddenly removed requiring me to re-add all my music by clicking every icloud symbol individually and it is driving me absolutely mad! What am I doing wrong?!

Does the same thing happen if you use another set of headphones?
If it does, there might be something in the headphone jack like lint, dirt, or something else. You might be able to get it out by connecting the headphones 5-10x or spraying compressed air into the jack.
If it doesn't you might need to get those headphones replaced.

  • IOS 5.1 erased my iTunes Match library, now Music won't even open

Using an iPhone 4, I just upgraded to iOS 5.1 OTA. My music app should have about 4,000 songs already downloaded, as well as iTunes Match iCloud songs.
Instead, I only had artists in the A's and B's and songs still wouldn't even play. I turned off the iTunes Match toggle in Settings. Turned it back on. Got a large iCloud icon in my Music app and a progress indicator. This took about 40 minutes to fill up, then reset at zero and stayed there. Now, the Music app won't open (crash after about 5 seconds each time). I've tried closing the app competely in the "task manager", tried turning iTunes Match on and off again with phone restarts, and I've tried plugging my phone into my computer with Match off and adding a single album, still resulting in a crash with the Music app. Am I only left with restoring my phone?
    What a hassle...
Mostly asking this to get the issue out there.

  • Music files from flash drive to new itunes

ive been slowly transfering music from my old PC to a music library on my MBP.  the weird thing is that on a fair number of folders, when they transfer, some songs seem to get left behind and not copied.  i'll have an album with 11 tracks, and move it as usual to the flash drive, then when its gets loaded onto the mac three or four of them are gone.  i must be really behind the times, because i cant fathom the file allocations that itunes uses.  ill load the batman begins soundtrack folder into the music folder, and it will split it into to two separate files - one with the original folder title and another with the artist listed and consolidiating them manually doesnt work.  it just resplits the **** thing - am i still to PC-if-fied?

... unless you have a backup copy of your *iTunes library file*. do you use time machine or any other means of backing up ?
What is the easiest way to link the now newly installed itunes to these external files?
if the answer to above question is no, you will have to start from scratch, i.e. no playcounts, ratings, playlists, etc. from your old library will be there.
assuming you have *copy files to ... when adding to library* checked in preferences > advanced, option-drag the folder containing your media files into an open iTunes window. iTunes will index the path to the location of the original files, but won't copy them physically.
btw, pointing *iTunes media folder location* to another spot will only tell iTunes where to put newly added content, not where the current content is.

  • Moving music files from windows media player to itunes

when I first got my ipod, only half of my music files moved from windows media player into itunes. Is there anyway I can import the rest of the music from windows media player into Itunes? I have tried using the import function and add file or folder to library and they do not seem to work!

iTunes will not accept Window Media player tracks that are protected. If you imported them off your own CDs, did you check the option to apply protection to them? If so, your only choice is to re-rip those CDs.

  • Music disappearing from playlists after sync with itunes?

So I have a bunch of songs that I ripped from CDs or got the MP3 files from friends. I add some of them to a playlist, that's fine. But when I purchase a few songs from iTunes on my phone and add them to the playlist, they appear there temporarily. The problem happens when I sync my phone with iTunes, then all of my purchased music disappears from the playlist. It's still on my phone, but not in the playlist. Why does it do this, and how do I fix it? This is really discouraging me from using iTunes. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
