Does changing a power supply require thermal calibration?

Hi all. I recently changed the power supply on a Late 2005 dual core 2.0 GHz G5 and now the fans are on full bore from startup. Of the 2 fans in the rear of the CPU, only the bottom one (where the 2nd processor would go if it was a quad) was going nuts, the top seemed normal. I swapped that fan with another one and now the top one is spinning away and the bottom seems normal. At first I thought it was only the rear fans but now I think it's all of them. I removed the clear deflector shield, which would normally make the fans kick it up a notch, but they didn't. I think they're already maxed out. The LED on the LB goes off when the clear door is in place so I know it's being seen. It does this with or without a hard drive installed and it does it when booting from an OS disc. I guess my question is: does replacing the PSU require the Apple Service Diagnostic disc? I thought that was only if the CPU was swapped. I put the same one back in. Other than the fans everything is working again. Thanks in advance.

Well, quite frankly, I haven't a clue as to what you might have forgotten. I think that there is a point of no return that you reach where you will need a calibration no matter how you back out, but I don't know what that point is. I've never swapped a PSU in a PMG5.
You, fiveinchwrench, are one of the few brave souls that have both done this an posted your results
I am simply trying to think of things that maybe you haven't. Maybe something is wrong with one of the fans in addition to needing the calibration. I figured that you double and triple checked everything, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

Wondering why you bought an SFF in the first place?  Why not simply go with the tower M93p to begin with, as it certainly solves all of your structural issues if you know in advance you're going to want to make hardware upgrades from the factory M93p.
Seems like what you've now said you're going to do (case-wise including the expense, to make room for a larger full-size graphics card along with a more powerful PSU to support it) owould have been completely avoided, if only you'd gone with the Lenovo tower case in the first place.

  • Power Supply Requirements

Hi all, any power experts out there?
A 6500 3000W power supply states a certain input and amp requirement, for example 110 Volts 16 Amps.
Does the power supply allways draw 16 Amps from the circuit or does this fluctuate dependant on the contents of the chassis?
    Thanks if you know
    Dave

It will depend on your cards. I can't find the link at the moment but each card tells how much power it needs.
The cards that provide power over ethernet are the ones that tend to use the most power.
You never want your power supply to be running near it maximum during normall operation. The cards take much more power at system boot.
In your example 16 amps at 110v is not 3000 watts it is more like 1700. It will be about 28 amps at 110 or 15 at 220. Both these will require a dedicated circuit be installed.

  • How to change the power supply to the CD/DVD Drive so that it is off by default?

When running on battery I often use the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon from XP to "unplug" the Mat****a CD/DVD drive in order to safe some battery life.(Does it?) I use Fn+Tab to bring it back to life. I wonder if there is a way to make my Notebook (M400) boot with the power supply to the Drive off by default. By the way, any idea where I can find the extra battery for the CD/DVD-Drive slot and at which price?
Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hello Robert
If you check start page you will see that this support forum is not any kind of Toshiba support directly but user-to-user forum. But you are not alone and many users expect that some Toshiba support team sit in the office and wait to write answers.
Anyway there are many Toshiba notebook users with very good knowledge and also enthusiasts who try to help other guys with different issues and also share own experience.
Professionalism is not forum but action when you need assistance because of hardware damage or something similar. If you need competent answers and help every authorized service partner should be able to give you info you need. But please dont mix service partner and Toshiba because it is not the same.
Anyway I have found info that you can use additional (second expansion battery) and it should be batteries with part numbers PA3510U-1BAL and PA3510U-1BRL. I can not tell you how much it costs but you can find it alone using Google.
Back to your first question: If I am understand you right you want to save more power and because of that you want to disconnect ODD. It is nice idea but you have obviously misunderstood something. "Safely Remove Hardware option is there to help operating system and say this hardware part will be removed and dont exist anymore but it does not mean physically disconnection from other hardware.
If you need more power use second battery and enjoy your life.
If you have more questions you are welcome. Many users here have M400 and I hope in the future some of them will participate a little bit more.
    Have a nice day! :)

  • Power supply requirement for SM-ES3G-16-P

I need 3925 router and i want to install SM-ES3G-16-P etherswitch module with PoE into it. So my question is do I need PoE power supply or not? Will PoE ports on this module work with basic AC power supply?

Thank you for your reply. I've read the document, but it is still not clear to me though.
Document says: "Power over Ethernet requires the PoE versions of the router power supplies". I have two PWR-3900-AC power supplies in the 3925 router (not PoE versions). So I will have no PoE on the etherswitch ports? (despite the fact that there is enough power on this two power supplies to set PoE up)

  • Changed the Power Supply, but now just get a Yellow Trickle LED

and no start up. Did I do something wrong? Did the reset on the Logic Board and nothing.  Should I take it all apart and try again?

I do actually, that's how I changed the original power supply.  I even tightened the screws in order and stuff.  I actually talked to a tech in NYC at Digital Society and he felt the Logic Board was shot. I have decided to stop investing money into the thing and buy a Mac Pro.  Anyone need a new Power Supply? or have a good logic board they don't need.... lol

  • Is there any way to change the power supply on a hp elite 8100 sff

hello . Is there any way to upgrade the power supply from the  standerd 240W psu . the pc is a hp elite 8100 sff ( quad i7 2.8ghz nvidia quadro 295 nvs and 8 gb ram )

    Joleney-
I do not know of any way to turn off the Sleep button.  If yours does not work, there might be an internal problem like a loose connection in the iPad.
One thing you can try is to hold both the Home and Sleep buttons for several seconds until the Apple logo appears.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" arrow if it appears.  If successful, the iPad will restart after a couple of minutes.
If the Apple logo never appears, it is likely your Sleep button is bad.  If the iPad is still in warranty, show it to an Apple Store Genius.  You may get a replacement iPad if the Genius can not fix it.
If the iPad is out of warranty or there is no Apple Store near you, look for an Apple Authorized Repair Center near you.  There may be one in your city.  If out of warranty, the cost of a repair would most likely be less than Apple's replacement price.  <Apple Authorized Repair Centers>

  • Does changing SXMB_ADM - RUNTIME- HTTP_TIMEOUT requires server restsart?

    hi forum,
    i want to change the
    SXMB_ADM -> RUNTIME->HTTP_TIMEOUT value,
    does it requires server restart?
I mean to say, if i change this paramter, will it come into effect immediately, without restating any XI server component,
    pls help,

    Hi Sudeep,
Server restart is not required after changing http_timeout as far as I know.
    It should be effective immediately.

  • Changing working color space requires re-calibration?

I calibrated my monitor and is using sRGB as working space in photoshop cs2.
If I open an adobeRGB tagged photo, photoshop says profile mismatch. If I choose to convert adobeRGB to sRGB, would some colors get clipped by the smaller sRGB space?
Suppose I want my working space to be adobeRGB, what are all the color management related things I need to change, in addition to choosing adobeRGB as the working space in photoshop? Do I need to change the monitor calibration process?
I don't see any parameters in the calibration software (coloreyes display pro) related to the intended working space so I'm guessing the answer is no.

Short answer: monitor calibration doesn't depend on
    working spaces.
For your monitor calibration you are free to choose:
    a) min.luminance, black point, typically below 0.3cd/m2.
    b) max.luminance, typically 100cd/m2 in a dimmed room.
    c) gamma, normally gamma=2.2.
    d) white point: 6500K or 5000K or something between.
Despite all color management, the working spaces sRGB
and aRGB (AdobeRGB) with white points D65 (6500K) can
be shown with 6500K or more yellowish down to 5000K.
This color shift is not corrected by color management.
Now you can use any RGB working space, preferably sRGB
or aRGB, but some color ranges of aRGB are out-of-gamut
in sRGB and in MonitorRGB, which is mostly near to sRGB.
Therefore all color editing in aRGB, as visualized by
    the monitor, is occasionally doubtful.
New practical applications can be found here - mainly
    for final results in CMYK:

  • What is the best video card I can install if I change the power supply

Right now the processor is i7 2600 which is still pretty fast around 8300 but the video card is a radeon 5770.

    Hi,
You want to put a Ferrari engine in a Volkswagen and expect to hit top speed?  It's not going to happen.
You need to size the hardware with your application requirements and then determine if your consumer level motherboard will meet your performance expectations.

  • Power Supply Requirements 280x 3 Screens

    Hi All,
long time MSI fan, first time poster
Im building a new rig and I am buying a msi 280x and i want to run 3 screens in eyefinity
ATI says 550watt minimum, but im told that when you are using Active mini display port to hdmi adapter.
would a quality 650watt PSU run 3 screens eyefinity.
the reviews I have been reading have been max power consumption of about 330watt...

you'll need to post more information, such as what cpu, any overclocking of it, what type of ram and how much, what types of harddrives, fan setup, optical drives, etc.
you want to have some extra room when you select your powersupply, and you want to make sure you choose a quality vendor.
a 280x can use over 300 watts on its own, 330w is a good target for it. that would leave 320w of headroom. a cpu can easily take 100w of that, and when you factor in ram, hdd, etc you aren't left with a ton but it's probably sufficient.
