Does changing data in iTunes change File itself?

Short version of the story is I want to restore my PC to factory settings with all the guff that's on it. As I have near 2500 songs on iTunes I assume I will have to add these back in from scratch to my "new pc"?
Basically over the years I've updated my iTunes data to include any missing info like Album covers, Year, titles etc so its immaculate. Have these changes followed through to the MAIN file? All my songs are held on an external hard drive.
Many thanks and hope the above is explained properly!

*Fast backup for iTunes library (Windows Only)*
Grab SyncToy 2.1, a free tool from MS. This can copy your entire iTunes library & any other media folders onto another hard drive or network share. You can then use SyncToy periodically to synchronise or echo your library to the backup. A preview will show which files need to be updated giving you a chance to spot unexpected changes and during the run only the changed files will be copied saving lots of time. And if your media is all organised within the iTunes Media folders then you can open the backup library on any system running the same version of iTunes.
When the time comes to reformat your PC, do a final sync, then open iTunes & deauthorize the PC, reformat & rebuild Windows, copy the backup folders back to the same location as they were previously, install iTunes and it should all work perfectly.

hmmm. those files should only appear in your ipod itself. if they are showing up on a network drive, it's plausible that you've got a Windows drive letter confusion going on in the background of all this:

  • Why does the Date Created metadata change when images are exported? How do I stop it from changing?

why does the Date Created metadata change when images are exported?  How do I stop it from changing? I must have a prefernce set up wrong.

I don't know what OS you are using, or what application you are using to view the data about your exported files, but on Windows and using Windows Explorer the "Date Created" field relates only to the date that the exported file was created, i.e. if viewed immediately after export it will show the date created as being the same date. In order to view "Capture Date" in something like Explorer, you first have to ensure you have included the Metadata as Conrad outlined above, then you have to adjust the display properties of Explorer to show the "Date Taken" field. Here is an example, part of a folder I exported back on March 3rd, note the difference between that last two dates:

  • N8 - Dukto changes date stamp on transferred files

I downloaded Dukto a few days ago after reading about it on another post on the forum.
I have used it a few times to transfer some data to my phone from a PC but for the first time I have just tried it to transfer data the other way, ie from the phone to the PC.  The files I chose were images from the camera and I am very disappointed to realise that Dukto has altered the date stamp on the files, to the time they were transferred (rather than leaving it at when the pictures were taken)
Is there any way round this, because I was starting to like the speed and ease of use of Dukto but for me, it is unacceptable if it changes what is a major plus point in digital photography, ie an automatic time stamp on images.
If there is no way round it, does anyone know of an alternative way of using Wi-Fi to transfer files in both directions, that does not mess with the timestamp info.

    Hi.
The case you described is right. But it´s not a bug.
Why don´t you organise your pics/vids on your desktop with picasa for example. There you have many tools, also to rename your files, so that the filename contains the creation date.
Or you use a cloud solution like dropbox, google+ or amazon clouddrive to sync pics/vids from your phone automatically.
But never use the built-in sony playmemories. It´s really slow, pics are down-scaled to 1280x720 and vids are not synced. It´s the worst cloud-service for pics I´ve seen.

  • How can I change data on my XLS files? I have tried to open them in Adobe reader but they can't be read!!!

Hi. I have problems changing the data on my XLS files.I tried Adobe reader but it can't open the files. What should I do??

XLS are Microsoft Excel spreadsheet files.  You can use Microsoft Excel to open them... or any number of compatible applications (OpenOffice, Numbers, etc).

  • OS X lion changes "Date Created" for old files that I edit or update.

Whenever i edit my old photos and save the changes, Finder changes the "Date Created" for that file to the date of the last edit.
This is annoying as i used finder and date created to search through my old images. Is there any way to get it back to functioning like the previous system ?

I would just chalk it up to slow hardware but they load real quick in windows 7 and once this bad spot is loaded the program runs so fast and nice afterword. Maybe some tweeks? I wonder if this would happen in Snow?
The coment "few outdated programs" Ive seen alot its not just a few its a lot and since games are not Apple's strong point I would think they would want to keep as many as they could...
An example of the rants you will see from a lot here. Don't be put off as these problems are generally user specific, and these same old comments come out after the release of every OSX I can remember. When Lion is upgraded  to the next OSX you can gaurentee these forums will be full of people screaming about how great Lion was. Happened with Tiger, Leopard and Snow Leopard.
So come to think of it you may be better off Googling sites that give you unbiased views on Lion, rather than expect any positive comments here. For every one complaint there are probably 100,000 people with no issues.

  • I cannot change date or batch change

I have run all updates to iPhoto 11. I've moved all the pictures out of my library and made a new library. Apple re-installed the iPhoto application for me which did fix the dates from being 0032 to 2011 etc.
Yet when I go to change the date to match the date the image was actually taken it will not update.
    Any ideas?

Hi. Thanks for responding. Before we go further I must explain that I am computer illiterate and a dinosaur.
I bought my computer a few months ago and using current photos on my digital camera started to build a library. If I had taken photos over a period of dates I split them into the correct dates using the program. I then added other photos from family members via memory sticks and again had no problems. These probably only arose when I began to scan in old photos with dates I put in from about 1920 onwards although I put in a family tree dated 1760. After a couple of weeks I noted that the batch date or the individual date of a photo was being corrupted to a year of 0023 and photos were being date filed accordingly. Some dates appeared to change without any input from me.
Yesterday I spent 2 hour on the "Genius Desk" to no avail despite two guys trying to work on the problem full time. They have set up a new Iphoto library which has brought back original dates of either when photos were taken or scanned into the computer. However they were unable to transfer the descriptions I had given to the 350 odd events. It also brought back all original photos I had put in trash and all photos were in their unedited form. Also, all but the most recent photos were now dated 0023 in the original library. I have tried to change this date and obtained another odd result. I tried to change 0023 to 1990 but it then became 0091 rather than 1990 when you checked from the top bar but retained 0023 in the library.
It appeared to the guys at Apple that given other postings on the web this was an uncommon but reoccurring program problem and probably an update was to be expected. I am back next week when they are to try reloading a certain program (don't know what) but they thought the success rate was likely to be 20% or less.
I have tried to think of anything I could have done to corrupt the program and have 1 possible explanation as I believe it happened roughly at the same time as the problem manifested itself. On a scanned photo I was changing a date - I think it was the batch date- and instead of using the "up/down arrows" to change it, typed in the year.I did not realise that this defaults to 0000 very quickly and hit the save button probably with this as the batch date. It did alter again after I realised my mistake but problems I am sure began after this.
Thanks again for your interest and hope you can help.
    Regards.

  • What does it mean The iTunes library file can not be saved (-54)

I went to sync my phone and this error message keeps popping up:
The iTunes library file can not be saved (-54)
    What does this mean?

Permissions error. First, launch Disk Utility, select your Volume & then "Repair Permissions".

  • HT1660 what does this mean: "the itunes library file cannot be saved.  you do not have enough access privileges for this operation"

HELP PLEASE!  What does "The itunes library file cannot be saved.  You do not have enough access privileges for this operation."

    Hi, DickmoAZ.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
This sounds like a permission issue most likely with the iTunes Media folder.  Here is an article that will help you troubleshoot this issue.

  • Possible to change date format when importing files into Aperture 3

Just wondering if it is possible to change the format of the date from YYYY-MM-DD to YYYYMMDD when you rename files as they are imported into Aperture 3? I typically rename my files and insert my initials, date the photo was taken, sequence number, camera used and original file name. When I do this in Aperture 3, the date format used includes dashes. I would like to have the file renamed without the dashes in the date. Is this possible?

You should be able to edit the format in the import presets. I have done this for folder stucture of imports, I believe you can do the same for the file renaming. At the bottom of the drop down box for file naming at improt should be an edit option which brings up the import naming presets, select the "YYYY-MM-DD" and remove the dashes.

  • How does FDS Data syncronization and change tracking works? example needed

    Hi All,
I found the FDS feature of detecting the change in data and

    Hi HustLiliAn,
Thank you very much for you quick reply. I have to say sorry that my code is only partially belonging to me so I cannot distribute all of them, beg your understanding
To overcome the delay, I open both Tx and Rx session at the beginning of the code so I don't need to initial and abort session before and after using respectively. It could save a lot of time (I measure the same delay as you shown). I read from WBX application notes (http://files.ettus.com/uhd_docs/manual/html/dboards.html) that if the system is working in the duplex mode, then antenna TX/RX is using for transmission and RX2 is using for reception. I simply tested it and it seems true.
Since two antennas are working concurrently, the receiving antenna (RX2) can receive packet even it is sent by TX/RX. My problem is, in software level I have used the if structure to make transmission and reception work successively, RX2 can still receive signal sent by TX/RX. That is the real problem. Probably we can write some compensation VI which we can remove it by using the transmitted signal, but I still want to know is there any official solution for it.
BTW, I use the modulation toolkit. Its demodulation VI is also quite slow.
Thank you for your reading. I am not a native English speaker, so if my post make you confuse, please let me know and I would like to elaborate it again.

  • Infopath - Changing date in field1 changes date in field2

Hello and thank you for taking the time to help a brother out!
    Here is my current issue:
When changing the Date in Field1 i am looking to change a date in field2. However, field2 should look at the difference from Field1's change (# of Days) and update accordingly. Is this possible with out of the box infopath? Please note, this is
on the fly and it is not looking at saved data. Thanks!!!
    Example:
    Field1= 12/1/2014
    Field2= 12/10/2014
    Field1 changes to 12/5/2014
    therefore..
    Field2 should change to 12/15/2014
    Any help is greatly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Adam W.

Thanks Omar, i have done that with great success. However, the #of days needs to be dynamic.
So if i change Field1 from 12/1/2014 to 12/5/2014 Field2 will need to calculate the 5 days.
    So if Field1's difference (#of days) = 5 days then field2 should add5 days to the current date (12/10/2014 + 5 days =12/15/2014).

  • Changing date format (find/change?)

Hello, I have little bit tricky question.
I have document full of dates:
    01.01.2013
    02.01.2013
    05.01.2013
And i want to change all these dates just to:
    01. Mon
    02. Tue
    05. Fri
Is there a possibility to do that within Indesign? Thank you for your answers.

    OrcusDei wrote:
Sandee, you got it exactly right. That's very unfortunate. It's pretty simple data formating and i'm surprised InDesign can't nativly do that O_O
InDesign is not a data formating tool - nor is it a word processor. It's a layout tool for creating print/web ready documentation.
It can do a lot of things - but it can't reformat your data.
I would have done the same as you did - but I would have added a blank character style(create a char style based on None and don't select any options) to the numbers and created an index.
    http://www.kahrel.plus.com/indesign/index_charstyles.html
Brought that to Excel and converted the text to the way it was supposed.
Then prepare the "FindChangebyList" in the scripts panel.

  • Is there any way to recover the iTunes Library file from the iPod Touch to preserve metadata like Date Added?

    Topic.
I used software (SharePod) to retrieve music from my iPod Touch after my original harddrive failed, but the program does not retrieve the iTunes Library file needed to import the metadata into iTunes (though it shows in the program itself). The music backed up with no issue, but I don't have what I need to preserve things like Date Added, Play Count, etc. Any solution if I have only the physical iPod Touch?

Yo may be able to extract some info from the backup of the iPod:
