Does Compressor make FCP re-render the sequence?

It seems that when we have a sequence with lots of filters, it takes compressor a longer time to compress than when we have no filters. (same length of video)
Does compressor make FCP re-render the sequence? It takes SO long sometimes... even with a quad core.
I would think it would just use the render files. Or are they not good enough?
In order to save time, we have even exported the movie, then compressed it. It took 1/4 of the time.
Is this normal?

You are correct. When you create a QT movie (self contained or reference) you have to create the media that is either contained or referenced. If anything requires rendering, then FCP will use the seqeunce settings to determine the codec for any non-native media. So, if your sequence is DV and you have animation clips within, when you create the QT movie they will all be rendered into DV upon export.
If, on the other hand, you export via compressor, the base layer will be handed off to compressor. Therefore, if you have any animation files (for example) they will be handed off to Compressor natively and not via the sequence settings.
The downside is that FCP is locked up for the duration of the encoding process.

Let me see if I can help you with the basic WDS configuration steps:
Note: To help facilitate the setup, temporarily connect the AXn directly to the AEBS LAN port using an Ethernet cable. Once the setup is complete, you can move the AXn to the desired location. For all configuration steps you will be using the AirPort Utility. Before starting, be sure to jot down the AppleIDs for both base stations.
802.11g AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS) Configuration
AirPort Utility > Select the AEBS > Manual Setup > Wireless tab
Wireless Mode: Participate in a WDS network
Manual Setup > WDS tab
WDS Mode: WDS main
Allow wireless clients (checked)
WDS Remotes: <enter the AppleID for the AXn here>
Click on Update and allow the base station to restart.

I have an Encore asset which is dynamically linked to a Premiere sequence. Do I need to render the sequence in Premiere before transcoding it in Encore i.e. is Premiere rendering necessary? Thanks in advance.

Adobe Encore technical support told me that Encore will not automatically render the Premiere sequence. You must manually render the sequence in Premiere before transcoding in Encore.

Does it use GPU to render?

I have a 1.1 MacPro with 2.6 quad and ATI X1800.. Will upgrading my GPU to a ati 4870 5770 help with render speeds?

Unable to Log and Capture AND make FCP a boot disk

I am unable to go into Log and Capture mode in FCP 4. I can capture from firewire using I movie just fine so I know the sytem works. The minute I open Log and Capture from within FCP (with the JVC Mini-DV camera hooked up thru Firewire), it crashes. Help. I upgraded from FCP 3 to FCP 4 a couple years ago and it hasn't worked right since. Would re-installing the FCP 4 upgrade work? Also, my system works very sluggish. Please explain to me how I would make the veersion of FCP 4 my boot disk. I realize that I can't have the FCP 4 application and the media on the same drive but is there a way to partition one of my drives and make FCP one of the startup disks? Hope this isn't too confusing. Thanks.

First off, FCP 4 was darn unstable. FCP 4.5 is a free upgrade and is STILL the most stable version out there. FCP 5 is getting there.
Secondly, try:
Shane's Stock Tip Mantra: If the program was working fine, and now isn't, or just isn't working the way it should, the first things to do are:
1) Trash your FCP preferences. Download the appropriate version of FCP Rescue at http://fcprescue.andersholck.com/ and run it.
2) Open the Disk Utility and Repair Permissions.
As for partitioning the hard drive, that isn't necessary. Hasn't been since FCP 3.

Apple don't make any printers, but there are a number of the printers that are AirPrint-enabled, which you should be able to print to just by the printer and the iPad being on the same wifi network - the models that support AirPrint are listed on this page (the page also includes a bit of troubleshooting at the bottom of it) and it includes :

HP Officejet 6500A Plus e-All-In-One E710n
If your's isn't one of those then you could see if HPs own ePrint app works with it, or there are third-party printer apps such as PrintCentral Pro and Print n Share which might work it

Does it makes sense to create an index on a column used for partitioning

I am new to using partitions along with index. Can someone help me with the situation below?
I have a table defined like below

This table is partitioned by range on Period code.
In a select query on this table, period code and product code are being used. I am planning to create an index to boost the performance. Does it make sense to include the period code column also in the index? I am planning to create index only for the product code column. I am thinking that the partition itself will act like an index for periodcode. Can someone tell me if this is correct? I am using 10g.

In your scenario I think it's better not to create an index on PERIODCODE because this column probaly has a only few distinct values.
In other scenarios, when in the same partition there are many distinct values of the partitioning key, creating an index can be an advantage for query performances..
But it depends on the specific context...

Does Compressor create FLV files?

I'm very new to creating videos and am trying to streamline my workflow. What I do now is create .mov files in Final Cut and then have Adobe Media Encoder translate them to FLV files which I can import into an HTML page using Dreamweaver.
Does Compressor make this easier or faster?

That doesn't work-- all I get is a huge FLV file. Adobe Media Encoder works fine. Apple refunded my money for Compressor because it's useless unless it exports to FLV.

IPhone equalizer does not make a difference

I set EQ presets to all my songs in iTunes. When I change the EQ settings on my iPhone (3.1) while listening to a song, it does not make any difference to the sound, regardless of the preset I choose.
Any clues or suggestions? What is the difference between off and flat?

Why does Premiere render the same sequence sometimes fast and sometimes really slow?

I use Premiere Pro CC 2014.
I have a Nvidia GTX 590
Intel Core i7 X990 @ 3.47GHz
24GB RAM
Windows 7 (64)
200GB free space on an SSD drive and 2 more drives with each 1TB free.
I'm having trouble with performance when rendering sequences.
The sequences themselves are pretty simple. They contain MOV files from my Canon EOS 5D Mark III and transparent PNG files as overlays for titles and additional graphics.
I also use lumetri looks and have turned on Cuda rendering. As a codec for exporting I use H264 (fullhd, 25fps, 20mbits, 2pass, max render quality, max depth)
Whether or not I export in Premiere or via AME doesn't matter, the problem stays the same.
Now, when I start exporting, at one point, which is seemingly random (sometimes at 35%, sometimes at 60%, sometimes at 2% - I'm talking about the same sequence!) rendering becomes really really slow (~1 hour for a 3min video), and I don't understand why. I keeps slow until the whole sequence is finished. But before that, rendering was fast!
But sometimes, I'm lucky, and - after restarting my computer and Premiere, the same sequences render in whole, in under 2 minutes!
So obviously my computer is able to render fast. But it does not always do that. Sometimes - even after a fresh reboot, I'm out of luck and the same sequence renders in an hour - but only after a random point in the sequence.
It's as if Premiere stumbles and can't get up again. The only thing that CAN help (though does not alway), is rebooting the system and hoping for the best.
Where does this strange behaviour come from? I use ordinary footage, ordinary filters and an ordinary export codec. I have lots of RAM and lots of disk space

Similar problem here but on a Mac. AME is always much slower than directly exporting from Premiere, but if I start to get slow renders a reboot always sorts the issue out.

it seems that the due date is becoming my do date for a 3d architectural animation. therefore i'm looking for alternatives.
for the first time* i need to deliver an animation as dvd movie (previously- mov, mpeg, avi, xvid blabla)
when i want perfect quality, i render an animation in 1280x720px (16:9), format-uncompressed .mov or targa image sequence. steping up this resolution is insane, render time would be years for my machine...:)
well, but this time..no time
therefore:
if i did the render in 853x480 (also uncompressed mov or tga), how would apple final cut compressor perform when upscaling to 1280x720px (720p)? is the upscale factor too big for getting good quality? or compressor can handle it?
the presentation will be shown on apple 24" displays (where probably even SD DVD would look good if watched from reasonable distance) and as i am informed- a monster tv, dunno what they meant, but it's scary:)
so- anybody has experience/knoledge about upscaling vs quality in compressor?

If you are planning to play these back from QT player, there might be some advantage in having Compressor scale these up to HD resolution. Compressor should be able to do a good job with the upscaling, but it will take a long time, particularly if you turn on the frame controls.
The only other option for full-screen playback that I know of would be DVD Player, for which you would have to play back a VIDEO_TS folder from the hard drive. I don't think it will play back an HDDVD build, in which case you might as well encode an SD mpeg. You are still converting the frame size in this case, and compressor will take a long time.
To get the output to the Monster TV (eek!) you might find the most expedient method would be to create an SD DVD and play it back with an upscaling DVD player. I find that upscaling in hardware in this way can often give better HD quality than trying to convert in software.

Does Premiere re-render video clips if they match the sequence settings?

I am new to using Premiere Pro CS5.5 and also a consumer lacking a detailed understanding of digital video inner workings, so excuse me if my question is obvious.   I have some older video clips, roughly 15-30 minutes in length. I would like to combine these into one file - without any loss of quality if possible.    So for example I imported two clips of the same format into PP.   I created a new sequence by dragging one of the clips to the magic button. Then I drug the second clip and placed it right after the first on the same sequence.   I made no other changes - no transitions, titles, effects etc.   Then I exported the sequence where I selected use the same settings as the sequence.
Two questions: 1) will PP re-encode/re-render the video such that I lose quality?     2) if you were simply trying to combine two or three video clips / files into one, would you go about it as I did here or would you do something different?

The clips were orginally on miniDV tape, captured with Ulead/Corel VideoStudio in 2001, then output into another format. I found a shareware utility that reported "MPEG2" as the codec.   So I would assume then as you noted these would be re-encoded?   Would you expect a loss of quality that would be noticeable?   Combing these clips isn't required, just some housekeeping.   What would you do here?   Thanks for the help.
