Does copylocale still work correctly in flex 4 / 4.1 ?

I am trying to create a new en_GB locale for use with the SDK.
After running bin/copylocale.exe en_US en_GB I observe the following in frameworks/locale/en_GB:
1) There are only 8 swcs in en_GB vs. 13 swcs in en_US
2) The file sizes of the en_GB swcs are much smaller than those of en_US
3) After looking at spark_rb the docs directory is missing from the en_GB version
Has copylocale actually been maintained?
Is there an alternative reliable way to create a new framework locale?
Thanks,
Ian

Having run copylocale and compiling with the new locale I haven't noticed any issues at run time.
I took a look at the bigger swcs and it appears that the size difference is just some documentation files that aren't actually used at compile time AFAIK. Regarding the missing swcs I haven't done any further investigation - I may not be referencing them in my app.

  • ITunes, Remote.app v2: Does v2 still work in iOS7 or will I be automatically updated to version 3? (Plus v3 and iTunes issues)

Remote.app (version 2): Does it still work in iOS7 or will I be automatically updated to version 3?
That is basically the main question I've come to ask (with some side commentary in parenthesis below).
After trying out iTunes Remote App version 3, I saw that it scrambles playlists (such as Recently Purchased), which makes my playlists worthless. For example, using Remote.app, it's no longer possible to simply play the songs you bought over the last week at the iTunes Store using the Recenlhy Purchased Playlist. Since I buy a lot of music through the iTunes Store, I naturally want to listen to what I just paid for, just as I could using Remote.app version 2.
But it's not just the Recenly Purchased playlist, it's all my playlists. Through the last decade, day in and day out, I've carefully orgnized hundreds of playlists that I've very crafted, song by song like old mix tape casettes.
They payoff for this work has been enormous. Since starting with mp2 in 1995, then mp3 and continuing through to the thousands of dollars I've spent purchasing songs through the iTunes Store and tens of thousands on iPods, iPhones, iPads, and computers—I've been able to make music match whatever mood or music was juuust right for the moment, making for great moments and memories with friends and families. For some artists, I always want to hear their latest songs first or I want to to hear top rates songs first. Other lists are about creating a particular mood for just about any occasion. I can even shift the mood in the room with the right music list. It's really been fantastic the memories and moments I've been able to set the tone with the right song, and most of this has been not the song itself, but the flow of music I've created by orgnizing music lists. That's a lot of work I've invested. So the order of the songs matters a lot to me, especially the very first song that starts that list. That's the song I want to hear first, not somewhere in the middle.
As of Remote.app version 3, these carefully crafted songlists are scrambled, making the App worthless. When I first noticed this I couldn't believe it, must be a bug. Nope, no bug, by design I found out. It's like when Lucy pulls the football away. It's mean spirited to take back features you've sold and promoted and people have grown to rely on in the workflow of their lives. So I downgraded back to Remote.app version 2.
((Actually, they're not really technically scrambled, they're actually presented in alphabertical order, which I think is really the same thing to me. Think about it: listening to an artists work alphabetically by title is really the most random and completely scrambled way to listen to their music. Or if you don't want to listen to them alphabetically, you can have them shuffled. Those are now the only two choices. Either way, the lists are jumbled, and like iTunes 11, several of the most powerful features have been taken away. In this case the exact thing that's missing is that the iTunes Remote no longer reflects the sort order of iTunes playlists.
I don't know if this is a quiet, update-by-update shift away from our playlists and towards iTunes Radio or not, but I would think so. Why else would you make it less powerful. To quote Merlin Mann Apple tends to "fire a warning shot" feature wise before taking something away. The Finder has gotten less and less powerful in finding files and folders by their name and size through the last decade.
I'm now noticing the same thing with iTunes, it's becoming more difficult to find the currently playing song. In iTunes 10, Go to Current Song would open the folder containing the list of the currently playing song, highlight and move that list to the top of the left column and then highlight that song. In iTunes 11, Go to Current Song will only highlight the folder that contains that song and nothing more. At that point you're on your own to hunt town the currently playing song. This feature has been broken—on purpose I suspect.))
SO—I don't want to be forced into Remote.app version 3 and have my playlists scrambled on my iPhone and iPad. Is there anyone who knows the answer from first hand experience?
If customer loyalty is as important to Apple as it should be taking away features in iTunes and Remote app will only drive old customers away.
    Thanks!!
    David

I like that I would be able to maintain my iPhoto library data for Faces and Places in Aperture, but am concerned that when the iPhoto library is "upgraded" for Aperture, and I decide I don't really need that program, the upgraded library won't work with iPhoto anymore.
The iPhoto library isn't changed in any way by Aperture. Aperture will import the Library and you can choose to copy the files to the Aperture Library or reference them within iPhoto. As long as you don't delete files from the iPhoto Library via Aperture (which you could do if you choose to Reference) there is no impact on iPhoto
Will I still be able to use iPhoto to access and organize my library, or will it be forever converted for use with Aperture?
    They are completely different libraries.
Recently, iPhoto bugs make Events show up multiple times in iTunes when syncing for iPhone and iPad.
    Fixed in the 9.1.3 update.
Will I find a better user experience with Aperture, or does it also use the single file library and suffer the same struggles iPhoto users have been seeing lately?
Like iphoto, Aperture can use the "single file library" or it can use a Referenced Library (just like iphoto can). Note that using a Referenced Library offers not a whit more in terms of features or capabilities. It's file storage plain and simple. Nothing more.
No you won't see the "same struggles iPhoto users have been seeing..." because Aperture is an entirely different allication.
But you my see Aperture or Lightroom struggles

I dropped my iphone 3gs in water and grabbed it immediately out. It gave me a charger not supported sign every minute or two. I decided to turn it off for the night and the next morning it worked fine and only the bottom sensor was triggered. Why does it still work and how long will it last?

Water in itself will not kill electronic components if you let it dry out.  Your first reaction to turn it off was a good one but you could have waited even longer.
It also depends what's on your water that will stay after the water itself had dried; like salt. Anything that iseither acid or conductor left on the circuit board will reduce the life of the board.  Given said this, no one could state how long your iPhone will work since no one will know for sure where the water had time to infiltrate before you removed your device and no one what's may left there.
Consider yourself lucky.  I don't understand however what you mean by a sensor triggered.

Every time I open iWeb it comes up with the error message (which is sent to apple) and asks if I want to reopen.  I re open & get the same message.

If not then how do I find the pics & videos that are embedded in iWeb?

To open your domain file in Lion, Mountain Lion or Mavericks or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
do shell script"/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"
    delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file in your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder that you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.
For Mavericks, 10.9 ,  go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:
If using the iWeb Switch Domainapp doesn't let you open your domain file try the following:
1 - delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iWeb's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
3 - launch iWeb and try again.

Info About iWeb Curtesy of Old Toad
As you now know iWeb and iDVD have been discontinued by Apple. This is evidenced by the fact that new Macs are shipping with iLife 11 installed but without iWeb and iDVD.   On June 30, 2012 MobileMe will be shutdown. HOWEVER, iWeb will still continue to work but without the following:
Features No Longer Available Once MobileMe is Discontinued:
    ◼ Password protection
    ◼ Blog and photo comments
    ◼ Blog search
    ◼ Hit counter
    ◼ MobileMe Gallery
Currently if the site is published directly from iWeb to the 3rd party server the RSS feed and slideshow subscription features will work. However, if the site is first published to a folder on the hard drive and then uploaded to the sever with a 3rd party FTP client those two features will be broken.   All of these features can be replaced with 3rd party options.   There's another problem and that's with iWeb's popup slideshows.  Once the MMe servers are no longer online the popup slideshow buttons will not display their images.
However, Roddy McKay and I have figured out a way to modify existing sites with those slideshows and iWeb itself so that those images will display as expected once MobileMe servers are gone.  How to is described in this tutorial: iW14 - Modify iWeb So Popup Slideshows Will Work After MobileMe is Discontinued.

  • Does shake still work with OS X Yosemite?

I still use Shake extensively in my workflows. Does anyone know yet whether it will still work with Yosemite? If now what kinds for work around might there be?
All I have seen on it so far is this thread: no Shake 4 and Motion 4 support in Yosemite which feels inconclusive ATM.

Unfortunately, it most definitely does not.  It gets moved to "/Incompatible Software", acquires a prohibitory symbol over the icon, and the Finder won't let you launch it.  Attempting to start it from the command line results in a crash with an "Assertion failed" message.  If there's a workaround for this, I haven't found it yet.
If you need Shake, don't upgrade to Yosemite.  Sorry.

Our company is running Exchange 2007, OWA enabled, EWS is setup, Auto discovery is enable. The only thing I haven't got an answer on is whether Service Pack 4 has been installed. The server is set up with a domain specified but I don't know where to include that in the Mail Account Setup. Mail seems to be locating the server fine but it says username or password can not be verified. I can only assume that it's because I haven't included the domain correctly.
iPad (and I assume iPhone/iTouch) have a field in their setup to include the domain and a coworker is connecting fine with to the company server. Where is it in Mail? I have tried to prepend it to my username (domain/username) but it hasn't worked. I can't recall all the variations I have tried of this, but unless I have the domain first in the username field, Mail won't even connect to the server. I've been all over these boards and dozens more and I can't find any answers to this problem.
Any here have any ideas? Thanks,

    Enter your username as:
    <domain>\<username>
This is standard practice for Microsoft if there's no place to enter the domain name.

Thanks Asatoran. That turned out to be part of the solution for me. The other part was changing the port I used for the SSL connection -- it was set wrong at some point, either because the default was wrong, or because I forgot I had changed it in troubleshooting before trying the slash the way you suggest. Anyway, the port number for some reason doesn't show up on my iPhone settings, so it didn't occur to me to tweak it.2.0 GHz MacBook, Mac OS X (10.6.4), 4GB RAM

    <domain>\<username> worked for me... FINALLY!!
Thanks muchMacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.4), iMac

Quit your mail entirely, then in terminal do:
    mv ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/Envelope* ~/Desktop
This moves all your "Envelope Index*" files to your desktop.  An alternative is deleting the files, but this allows you to keep them as a temporary back-up (you can delete them at-will later).  Also, you can move the files from Finder instead of Terminal, if you prefer.
After the files have been moved, re-open Mail
This should re-load all your email messages, updating/restoring the count
While this works, it does not explain the reason the count goes missing, nor does it ensure that the count won't go missing again in the future, but at least it's a temporary workaround.

  • ACGI Dispatcher - Does it still work?

I just downloaded the 30-day trial of acgidispatcher. Judging from the website documentation, it looks like a product that might do just what I need.
However, I'm having a little trouble getting it going. I think I've installed it right, but I get the error message...
    acgi services temporary unavailable.

Is there anyone else using this product with 10.4.9?

    You asked...
The script has to be compiled as a "Stay-Open" application", which means that once it's launched it never quits. The same condition applied in OS9, so it wasn't too hard to figure out. A mention in the documentation would have been nice.
Applescript modules (called scripts) are not plain text files, but must be created by a special editor ("Script Editor.app" is one.) When the file is Saved, options allow the file to be saved as an application. This one file then functions as an application but also contains both source and object. When you launch the file, the application runs. If instead you opened the same file with the editor, you could edit the source and Save again.
Scripts typically are coded in a single file with a program at the top followed by all its subroutines. The top program is called the "run" handler because it is run whenever the application is launched.
Subroutines are called "handlers" because they can be accessed externally, from other scripts, even other processes. There is syntax to call a handler as a subroutine from the run handler or any other handler in the script. There is also syntax to call a handler defined in another application:
tell application "foo" to dowhatwith given params
You can even make the top-level program in another application run again:
    tell application "foo" to run
The name of the handler and the syntax for its parameters would be defined in the other script:
    source in file "foo":
    <... run handler code here>
    on dowhatwith given params
    <..."dowhatwith" handler code goes here>
    end dowhatwith
For these sample acgi applications, the run handler is null: when you launch them they do nothing. However, they all have (at least) one handler named "handle CGI request".
    on handle CGI request
    <...>
    end handle CGI request
This is the entry point for Apache or MacHTTP or WebStar or whatever http server is calling the AppleScript cgi.
Apache will first launch the application then call the "handle CGI request" handler. Problem is, the application will finish its run handler and quit almost instantly, so then there's no process to handle the "handle CGI request".
The solution is to make the AppleScript "stay-open" when saved, so that once launched it never quits. And there they are in my dock right now, still running after my tests yesterday. I can quit them manually.
I like to code my cgi scripts so that they do quit by themselves after a few minutes with no work. This is assisted by a special "idle" handler which, if present in the script, MacOS will call with no parameters every now and then.
So I'm off and running on this path for now, to see where it leads.
Thank you very much, Anthony, for your help and encouragement, and especially for your review of some very attractive alternatives.

  • IDVD ...does it still work?

I have a new MacBook Pro running mountain lion which of course does not include iDVD. I called Apple and spoke to two people on the chance that they might send me a copy if I begged, as some have reported worked for them. No luck, they say they don't have it anymore.
So, plan B. I was going to buy it on Amazon. Three questions:
Will it still run on my MacBook with the latest iMovie version? Will I need to export the movie first?
Also, since I would be buying a copy of iLife11, can I only install iDVD and not the entire suite? Is this simple to do?
Finally, will iDVD burn to blu-ray?
    Thanks!!

IDVD remains very popular in the Macintosh community.
Mountain Lion is tested for compatibility with iDVD.  IT WORKS FINE.
IDVD is a wonderful piece of software and well worth the low cost of $40.

There is an unofficialy way to get Frontrow working under Lion but it is currently not compatible with iTunes 10.4 (only older versions). Most people have given up on Frontrow due to Apple having neglected it for years. The two main replacements people look at are either Plex or XBMC (both for Mac).

Sorry, also want to ask someone before I go diggin in myself once.
Most importantly, yes LIBGL_ALWAYS_INDIRECT=1does still affects the Xserver. It is switching to indirect rendering as glxinfo suggests while most OpenGL apps such as neverball run just fine still. Sorry, didn't try beryl or anything heh. This is on a mac though using archppc, similar setup what goes for versions though.

  • Does swf verification work with swz flex libraries ?

    i  posted earlier  :
    Hello
In my application i have video player  that uses VideoDisplay class of flex sdk 4.5. we implenent swf  verifaction. i tried to play videos on  rtmpe several times , and it  did'nt play , seemed like   my swf did'tn pass swf verification, during  all day i tried to figure out what's wrong, then i tried to compile all  flex sdk libraries ( framework_4.5.0.17689.swz, osmf_1.0.0.16316.swz and  ex ) into my main file  , instead of  having them as rsl, finaly i  succeeded to connect to rtmpe and to play the video. Could you help me  please? what should i do? why does'nt it  pass swf vereficiation when  the linkage  of flex sdk libraries is default(rsl- swz files). i can't merged them into code, it Weights to much ,800 kb.
after trying some things i came to conclusion that fms can't handle with swz, then it reaches swz refference it fails . so my question now is : is this something that can be configured on fms  to verify swz as well ?
    thank you/

Before i dig more into, how do you plan to host your swf's, would your main file when hosted would play fine and at runtime get linked to your other libraries needed?
Also you can try one more thing, create main file with all needed flex libraries, keep it in SWF's folder of application. Then try connecting using main file without having all the libraries (basically as rsl) and see if in this case it connects.
