Does core duo always mean it will run windows?

been using MAC since 1984!
dont know a lot about the core duo.
I am looking at getting a macbook
Apple Intel Core Duo/2.0GHz 13.3" MacBook - Black 1.0/120GB SuperDrive BT APX
first book. :)))
I also cut video and plan to use either FCE or iM.
does "core duo" mean that it will run windows?
I am a scuba diver and all the software for my dive computer is written in windows.
I currently have an old IBM T23 that I use but really want a mac!

I use wireless to connect to the Internet and everything works fine when I sign on. After being on line for awhile and my remaining battery power at about 60%, I lose connectivity. I turn off Airport, restart it, and I am asked for my secure password. I enter the password but cannot reconnect. So, I shut down the computer for 5 to 10 minutes, restart, and everything works great again.
Has anyone experienced this behavior and do you have any suggestions as to what is causing the problem.

Thank you ... I keep seeing this i5 and i7 processor mentioned and it is also recommeded that I stream using it. Do you have any suggestions on which MacBook would serve me better? Or is there an upgrade of any kind that will help me?

No. It means setting the Format Trigger of it to reurn FALSE, so it won't display.

In some cases, there may be slowness in OS X because of the lack of free space. However, you shouldn't note this and in most of cases, performance is the same in Windows and OS X after installing Windows, more in the case of a MacBook Pro with Retina display.
The only thing you have to worry is to give Windows the necessary space. The MacBook Pro with Retina display hasn't got a lot of storage

The user data is stored in the profile folder. You can copy the data manually by copying the contents of the profile folder, for details see http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_backup or https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Backing+up+your+information
There are some add-ons and utilities that can make this process easier. The first one is the FEBE add-on ([http://softwarebychuck.com/febe/febe70.html] - The Firefox 4 version is currently in beta) which can be used to copy a profile. Another option is the free MozBackup utility ([http://mozbackup.jasnapaka.com])

Mac mini Intel Core Duo fan very loud and runs at high speed all the time.

I purchased an "Open box" Mac mini Intel Core Duo, 1.66Ghz, 2G ram, 80G HD and SD a few days ago from Fry's.
It runs beautifully except the fan is very loud compared to any Mac my family has ever had. It is so loud that we were thinking of putting it under the desk.
The fan runs constantly, and I mean all the time, at a high speed. You can really feel the air coming out the exhaust vents. The case is always cool to the touch as is the exhaust air.
My aunt bought a similar Mac mini (But only 512Mb ram) the same day. Her's is very quiet. The case feels just slightly warm, not unlike other Mac mini's I've seen.
Should my Mac mini's fan be running this way?

BTW: The "open box" was sealed with a Fry's label and it said that this had a new warranty. Yet, checking the serial number, it said that it had about 260 days left. I guess Fry's is backing it?
Also, someone told me that perhaps the main wire from the fan to the logic board is disconnected.

Since you have 2 gigs of memory, my thoughts are that when the party (Fry's or the origianl purchaser) upgraded the memory, they neglected to reattach the wire at the front of the Mini under the IR receptor at the right front corner that regulates the fan speed. This wire must be unattached in order to upgrade the memory, and is probably why the original person brought it back, because of the fan noise resulting from failing to reattach the wire. If that wire is left unattached, the fan runs continually at high speed to protect the CPU and system in general. If you do not want to use a putty knife to open the Mini, take it back to Fry's and ask someone who is Mac savvy to open it and reattach the small plastic receptacle at the end of the wire into its socket at the right front of the machine. When I go to Fry's, I am always concerned because the employees allow people to pry keys off of the Apple notebooks, so don't expect that their employees to know or care about anything Mac.

How many fans does a macbook pro have if it runs windows 7 and Mac OS X

i just recieved my mac for christmas it runs great! it runs Mac OS X but also i can run windows 7 operating system... anyway i downloaded a fan control app to try to keep it cooler and it shows that one of my fans isnt spinning is this a broken fan or normal with 2 OS?

How will running windows XP affect my Mac?

I am very new to Mac's. When I bought it two weeks ago I learned about bootcamp and how you could run both Windows and OSX, I thought this would be great because I would like to be able to play a favorite game of mine on here. However, when using Windows I have had nothing but viruses. If I used bootcamp to run Windows XP, would I be just as likely to get viruses and crap on my Mac as I would be on any other computer? And if I did get a virus or something, would it be contained to the XP part of the hard drive, or would my whole computer get hit?

running Windows on a Mac is like running Windows on any other computer.
So, after what you have experienced would you run Windows without an Anti-Virus software ?
While the Mac and Mac OSX are immune to Windows viruses due to the different nature of the operating system, it can nonetheless be the source of Windows viruses infiltrating your Windows partition on your Mac, when you use an infected USB pendrive (or a CD/DVD or the internet).

Does Migration Assistant require and up and running Windows machine?

Our home Windows desktop just died. The contents of the hard drive are still intact. We are getting an iMac to replace it. Can the Migration Assistant work with just the hard drive (connected via usb in an enclosure) or does it require a Windows machine running? If I need a running machine, is there any work around or, failing that, does anyone know any good programs to help migrate files? I could just copy manually, but that might take a while.

No, you must install Windows Migration Assistant on the PC and connect it to your network (or Mac).

Hey all...Just Saturday, I switched from many long hard years of Windows to Mac OS X 10.4.5, with the new Intel Core Duo 20 inch iMac. Now, I've been chatting with some friends, but some say one thing, some say another. My question is this...does core duo mean 2 2 GHz processors, or 2 1 GHz processors, for my 2 GHz Core Duo Intel iMac? Thanks in advance.

I'm confused...it's 2 2GHz processors, but it's not 4GHz speed wise? How so?
EDIT: Nevermind, I understand. Basically, it's two 2GHZ processors in that, they're in one chip, both run at 2GHz speed wise, but they can both be used at the same time, so in a way, it provides double the power, but not double the speed. Designed basically for multi-tasking, which explains why I can do so much at once on only 512 MB of RAM.

IS 2.3GHz i7 Quad Core MacBook Pro (Retina) able to run Civilization V?

Apple mentions that Civilization V has been updated for the Retina display. Civ 5 shows it needs at least a Core Duo 2.4 GHz processor. The Retina I have is 2.3 but quad core. Will this not work?

Those are 2 different CPU - the 2.4GHz being a Dual Core is slower than your 2.3GHz Quad Core.
So Civilization V will run much better in your Macbook Retina.
