Does CoreGraphics PDF facilities still have unrecoverable memory issue?

There are two options for viewing PDF files on the iPhone. Initially, it seemed that using Core Graphics’ PDF facilities was the best approach, giving the most control. And my first prototype did work very nicely. I developed some cool navigation features where you could skim pages like in iPhoto or iMovie to browse quickly. I was well on the way, but there was a big problem: The PDF functionality in Core Graphics seems to have some serious memory flaws. In short, it accumulates memory, and nothing you do can make it release the memory. After a few minutes browsing around, the app was inevitably killed every time. Even completely releasing the PDF document, and reloading it, did not cure this ailment."
I believe the author is referring to SDK 2.x. Does anyone know if this is still true with SDK 3.x?
I'm having a lot of trouble with a PDF book viewing app right now from the low memory errors (cause app to crash).

Hmm. I've been sticking with 2.1 until hearing widespread reports of stability. Every time I checked the forums, I didn't like what I heard about 2.2 so I stayed away. I dropped by to see what the Mac users thought of 2.3. Have you tested on another machine? I assume 2.1 was good for you? Can't wait to see what others are experiencing.

hey guys i wanna know does the iphone 4 still have the "Death Grip" which is the reception issue (antenna issue) with iphone 4 when u hold ur hand (or fingers) near the antennas and the reception goes down to like 1 bar (n sometimes makes it go to no service).
i think someone said they have made newer models of the iphone 4 what have fixed it but i am not 100% sure

My blackberry still has the reception / antenna issue. And always has. In fact, it is so bad that I can terminate the connection if I hold the phone with my head and shoulder.
My iPhone 4 (not s) on the other hand has never been a problem for me.
A lot of noise—not much benefit. However Apple did apply new engineering to the problem—which is great!

im forsure buying the new iPad but i wanna make sure if the backlight bleeding problem is still occurring in the new iPad?

I never had a backlight bleeding problem and this is news to me about the new iPad. There were issues with heat and the battery for some people - but the backlight bleeding was more of an issue with the iPad2.
Besides, those issues in all cases were a very small number of the total number of iPads that were sold .... a very small number.
My new iPad has been a tremendous investment and performs magnificently in every aspect.

As long as the app remains in the store then you can re-download it via the Purchased tab in the App Store app, or via the Purchased Link under Quick Links on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page on your computer's iTunes : re-downloading.
Similarly ibooks can be re-downloaded, and depending upon what country that you are in then music, films and tv shows may also be re-downloadable (if they remain available in the store).

Thanks to Jesse M for the "See all >>" suggestion, which is better than nothing, and to iNexxFear for all your hard work, but I absolutely need the search results to come up with full functionality. The possibility of searching painstakingly by separate categories for Composer, Album etc. merely puts me at the mercy of the overworked, undereducated interns who have to type in such information, unaided of course by iTunes' hopelessness at categorising anything other than pop songs.
However, I've found a fantastic solution of my own. It's called Amazon. Only 69p a track. Searching isn't perfect, but it's far better than this appalling leap backwards by Apple.
Yes, I'm upset. But I see the thin end of a wedge that's turning Apple into Microsoft.

Do latest macbook pro's still have the heat issue? (7/10/06)

wondering if the latest revisions of macbook pro still have the heat issue.. i heard the issue of the fan going off/on causing that 'whine' is gone and now the last thing holding me back from making the 'switch' is this heat dealy.

My week 12 MBP has never had heat issues. It's fast, stable and comfortable to use.
The case bottom of my 5+ year old TiBook gets hotter than the MBP. I've used a tilt stand for PowerBooks for years, both to reduce heat and because I prefer the typing angle.
People are not getting burned. Really. If I were to charge a battery at the same time I'm running processes that load up both CPUs, the metal strip behind the function keys would get quite warm. It might be uncomfortable to touch (but doesn't have to be touched to use the computer). But it will not result in a physical burn, unless one loves discomfort enough to keep touching it for a protracted period. Even then, not a serious burn. A cup of coffee or tea is far more dangerous than a MacBook Pro.
I've encountered several hot-running MBPs owned by people that I know in my local area. In each case, the problem was caused by software that was loading up the processors at full blast. One case was a runaway process that was initiated by software that was incompatible with the Intel processors. Another was caused by a stalled startup item -- again, software incompatible with the Intel CPU. In both cases, Migration Assistant had been used and the applications had not been updated for Intel compatibility.
And still another case was a large collection of Widgets, some of which are badly written and load up the processors. Deactivating all but 3 or 4 Widgets made that computer run cool and quickly.
Complaints about heat on this forum dropped dramatically after the last firmware update.
If you want the most powerful notebook computer Apple has ever designed, get a MacBook Pro. I'm delighted with mine. No fix necessary, thank you.

I was wondering, and I'm quite curious. When I look at the new iMac design I see things that it might not have that the last generation had.
1) Does it still have a sleep light, if it does, where is it?
2) Does it still have the magnetic side where the Apple Remote sits?

Thanks for the fast reply. I'm extremely surprised that Apple would do this. I still prefer my iMac (white one), and this pushes me even further away. Even though it's newer, I don't think it's better (except for processors and hard drive), but they can me upgraded(with a lot of hard work!)

The computed showed a message, saying that i have no memory enouth, the day after when i turned it on appeard that beggining messages, then anything else, even the dock. i dont know how can i delete my archives and stuff, somebody can help me?

Does it say hard drive space or application memory? Because if it is application memory then deleting items won't work. You'll have to open up Activity Monitor in Applications > Utilities and sort each process according to memory. Then you will see what is using up all the resources.

Does the iPad 2 still have issues with light bleeding/yellowing?

I placed an order for an iPad 2 back in April but cancelled the order when I heard about initial quality control issues such as light bleeding/yellowing. However, I am keen to buy a iPad 2. Could anyone who bought an iPad 2 more recently (say, since mid May) advise whether they too have had these issues? I can't afford to spend £500+ on a device that doesn't work like it's supposed to.

Hi there Tony!
All iPads should work as expected, to have a fault with one is usually a random, and rare event. Your iPad will probably be perfect, only a few out of a very large number have defects.
However, if your iPad does not meet your standards when you purchase it, I would take it to the local Apple Store. You receive a 1 year limited warranty, and they will be happy to replace it if any defects occur.
Hope that put your mind at rest.

Lightroom 2.3RC and Fast MBP Mac 10.5.6 Still Has BIG Memory Issue

Lightroom 2.3RC still have a big memory issue on my Macbook Pro (Feb 2008) with 4GB of RAM both in 64bit and 32bit mode. After working on photos in a catalog (using Activity monitor) Lightroom causes my Free Memory to hover around only 10MB or less (causing Lightroom to continually hang or crash) while Inactive RAM sits at 1.5GB! Lightroom should be using this Inactive RAM rather than taking my Free RAM down to nearly nothing and causing freezes or crashes.
This is not as much of a problem in 2.2 32bit mode, but is a problem on 2.2 64bit mode. However, now with 2.3RC this is a problem on both the 32 and 64bit modes. Please Adobe address this huge huge huge memory problem in Lightroom. Why does Lightroom 2.2 32bit handle memory pretty okay but not Lightroom 2.3RC 32bit mode or 64bit mode? Why did 2.3RC break what for the most part worked in 2.2 32bit mode (even though that wasn't too great either).
Also I am only running Lightroom (no other programs). I admire the product Adobe, but this problem has persisted far too long and is making Lightroom unusable.

I have the mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter firmware 1.03 and I still have massive screen flickering issues on a Mac Mini 2012.
I am using a Dell 30" monitor (it's the Samsung screen just rebranded) connected to a WD 4TB Thunderbolt drive connected to the Mac Mini.
The screen is usable for the most part when I've just started the computer (although today I started having issues after a fresh restart) but if even just the screen goes to sleep, or the computer goes to sleep and I wake it later, I start to have massive flickering to black and occasionally to snow.
The effect seems to be more likely to arise when I'm on heavy graphics-intensive websites or programs (eg, Tumblr feed with lots of GIF images or working in Adobe Premiere), but once it starts shutting down those programs has no effect, the screen keeps flickering wildly.
The problem improved after the 1.03 firmware upgrade (for a while it was flickering uncontrollably ALL the time and was virtually unusable) but it has not gone away.
Any suggestions would be very welcome, either for how to fix this issue or how to get Apple to, you know, let me TELL THEM that their adapter firmware fix has NOT solved the issue, since my phone support has expired. :/

I have a new Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter to allow my original Apple 30" Cinema Display to connect to the new Mac Pro. Shipped straight from Apple, it is firmware version 1.03. I've never had flickering issues, but the display will often go black (possibly after a screen power save) and not come back. when this happens I am still able to connect to and use the Mac via remote connection. But the only way to get the screen back is either to unplug the adapter and plug it back in to the Mac, or to shut down and power up the Mac. This may be a separate issue, so I'll also post it standalone...

Then you need a clean install.
First export your bookmarks to a html file. (Bookmarks/Unsorted bookmarks will bring you History page where you can export your bookmarks). Note down your add-ons too.
Uninstall the old FF using free software like Revo Uninstaller. This will delete all the root directories and registries of old FF.
Now download the latest version of FF and install it. You can re-import your bookmarks from your saved html file.
You may still have to do the fix in my first post.
Post here whether this worked for you.

The person who stole my iPad renamed it, does it mean I still have a chance of tracking them?

My iPad 2 3G + WiFi was stolen 2 nights ago and I unsuccessfully tried to track it the day after, realising it was offline. However it was still named under what I had called it at that time. Just recently though (2 hours ago) I checked and the name had been changed. I'm guessing this means that there is still some connection between my iPad and iCloud (Find My iDevice), but as it stands it's currently offline. Does me receiving the name change mean that there could be a possibility that it will go back online in the future and will be able to track? Or will iCloud just be notified of the name change while the actual device is wiped clean?

Why does my MacBook Pro still have disk problems even with replacement disks?

I have a 2008-era MacBook Pro. In January it failed to boot. I took it to Apple and paid for a replacement system board. When it came back they told me the hard drive was also bad and they had replaced it.
About a month later my performance became very bad. A test of the hard disk revealed unrecoverable errors. I reformatted the disk and restored from Time Machine. About a month later, the same problem surfaced. This time I took it back to Apple and they put in a replacement hard drive.
Now here I am about a month after that and the hard drive has asked to be reformatted twice again.
What is REALLY wrong and how do I get it fixed?

How does the disk test which checks the drive have to do with corrupted data?
Let me clarify:
1. System gets slow.
2. I run the Disk Utility > Verify disk.
3. It reports data corruption errors and and says to run Disk Utility > Repair Disk
4. I run Disk Utility > Repair Disk
5. It says errors are such I need to run it from the Utilty partition
6. I restart from the Utility partition and run Repair Disk
7. It reports it can't fix the problem. Tells me to erase the disk and restore.
8. I do all that.
9. Now I run Verify Disk again. All is well, and all continues to be ok for several weeks.
So, if the Time Machine backup was corrupt, step 9 above would fail.
Since this is the third hard disk since January, I doubt that the problem is REALLY the disk.
