Does cs5 gpu work better under windows 7 then xp ?

Hi
i noticed that photoshop cs5 video card gpu works better under windows 7 32bit then xp 32bit (gpu come off but i enabled and restart photoshop cs5)
i did notice a better performance of xp sp3 then xp sp2, maybe i'm wrong
it's my guess or is real ?
i used the same ati drivers
by the way are there ati drivers that works better for photoshop cs5 then others?
thanks
cheers

I've tried all different settings.  In the end, and this is PURELY SUBJECTIVE, I think as good results just by leaving them on the out-of-box defaults as with any other setting.  My Photoshop CS5 64 bit is currently set up as follows, and my system is stable:
I normally increase my History levels, as you can see above, since I have a lot of RAM and I like to be able to go a long way back in time to what I had before a bunch of work - e.g., to double check to ensure I haven't lost info.
The one other setting in that set that I DO use - with GREAT care - is that occasionally I set the Cache Levels down to 1, which (with OpenGL turned off) allows me to see layer compositing on the screen done in the full bit depth of the document (e.g., 16 bits/channel).  This matters when I work on astroimages, which can involve severe pushing of the data (e.g., really steep curves).
I run my OpenGL settings in Advanced mode, which seems to work fine, though again I've never really noticed a performance difference between Normal and Advanced.

  • Damaged DVDs won't play under OS X (works fine under Windows)

I have started to rent my DVDs online and so far for the past two weeks it has been fine. Today though I got one which was a bit scratched. I popped it in and it was detected but wouldn't play as it couldn't be read very well (well it did play but very slowly).
I gave it a clean but this still didn't work so I tested it on my Windows machine. It worked fine on there so I took out the DVD drive and connected it using my USB to IDE adapter to my Mac.
I then popped the DVD into there, and tried again. Same problem, it still reads really slowly on my Mac, but works fine on my Windows PC.
So I decided to try it in Parallels using the USB connect functionallity. Guess what, it works fine!
So from what I can tell it must be a software bug with OS X, I am running 10.4.9 and have all the latest updates installed.
Under OS X I have tried playing it with DVD Player and VLC, and also tried ripping it with Handbrake, but nothing gives good results.
Under Windows I have tried playing it with VLC and Windows Media Player 11, both of which work fine.
    Any ideas?
MacBook 1.83 GHz, 1 GB Ram, 60 GB HDD   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Sorry, I will make things a bit clearer.
The Windows PC I have is a desktop PC. It works fine on there, so I took the optical drive out of there and connected it to my Mac using a USB to IDE adapter. Even when playing it from this drive (which worked fine under Windows) it still didn't work properly under OS X.
When running it through Parallels I tried it with both the Mac's internal optical drive, and via the optical drive from my Windows PC and both worked fine.
I have sent the DVD back now, so I am afraid I can't test any more solutions anybody has. In the end I just played it through Windows.
    Thanks,

  • Does the pro works in a windows network environment

I would like to purchase a macbook pro (15") but I'm not sure if it will work in a windows network environment.
please help!! does the pro works in a windows network environment
    My situation:
    I work in a company 2500 employees, 3 locations, 7 sub-locations 1 sever. almost 80% of the locations is/will be wireless connected.
need a reliable fast and tough laptop to support users on all locations.
    leonard

It would be neat though, to be able to connect
wirelessly on my Dell WinXP laptop over this dial-up
connection at home, the few times I'm going to use
it. So I thought eBaying one of those nice "old"
hockey puck Airport Extremes with built-in 56k
    modem.
    That should work.
From what I understood, the AE doesn't have a
    web-based configuration interface, like most
broadband routers have, but one needs to configure it
    installing a software utility, right?
    Correct
    Being in a
Windows only environment, will I be able to configure
my Airport Extreme-to-be using the Windows software
    on
    <http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=75422>
    Yes.
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/airport42forwindows.html
? Does anyone of you have any experience with this?
    Yes
If so, could you reassure me that this is actually a
    feasible idea?
    Yes if does work.
Does the AE dial-in automatically whenever you're
generating traffic, by the way, or do you still have
    to establish the connection manually?
You can configure it that way, but it is easier to use Jon Sevy's Java utility.
Jon Sevy has a Java Utility for this purpose.
You will need Java in order to run the utility

  • Does Airport Express work with a Windows Computer?

Does Airport Express work with a Windows Computer?
I'm trying to setup an older Airport Express to play iTunes
with a Windows Computer. I just want it to join my network,
since I'm already connected to another router.
    Thanks,
    Paul

Is there a Windows version of the Airport Utility (I think that's what it's called)...
Yes. That is only needed to configure the AirPort Express (AX).
...or do I have to go through Windows setup software?
You may have to do that to get Windows to join the wireless network.

  • Does TimeCapsule work better with TimeMachine then other brands harddrives?

I have been having problems getting Time Machine to work since I've been using it for over a year and a half. It will work at times and then stop. When I talked to someone at the Genius Bar they made it sound like using a Time Capsule wouldn't cause all the problems that my western digital has been giving me. Is that true? I don't want to go out and spend $300 - $500 and then find out that that doesn't work either.
Does a Time Capsule have to be wireless or can it connect over ethernet? I am not sure if where I work has wireless capabilities. I think they just stick with DSL.
    Thanks

  • Firefox does not "close" when closed under Windows 7; Task Manager must be used to "End Process." How do I close Firefox and reopen it without getting a "Still Running" error message?

Even though Firefox has been updated multiple times (currently using Ver. 3.6.13) since I started using Windows 7, I am still unable to totally close it from the toolbar or taskbar. Firefox does closeout on the screen but apparently continues to run in the background. If I open Firefox at a later time, I get an error message stating that Firefox is still running. I then have to go Task Manager to "End Process." Electing to do so allows me to restart Firefox. I never had this problem with Firefox when using Windows XP and I never have this problem with any other software under Windows 7.

  • TB display devices don't work properly under windows

I went out and picked up a TB display last night to pair with my 2011 mbp. I live in windows about 80% of the time and expected there to be no issues with the basic usb hub built into the display – unfortunately that does not seem to be the case. My Apple usb keyboard (also brand new) and dell usb mouse both hang/freeze/work erratically when connected to the back of the display, as does my Jabra pro headset.
I can make the behavior 10 times worse simply by using hardware built into the display, such as the display's facetime camera. If I fire up Lync and start a video chat, my keyboard and mouse become nearly unusable. My basic testing under Lion appears to confirm this is an issue with Apple’s boot camp drivers as things work properly under OS X. Problem occurs both with win7 and win2008r2, I have rebuilt both OSes twice to confirm.
The firmware/drivers of the display itself appear to be the problem.  The peripherals work fine plugged directly into the laptop.  Thunderbolt itself appears to be the root of the issue, as the facetime camera exhibits the same pauses/lags even with no peripherals plugged into the display (unless the facetime cam is a usb device and not a pci-e device, in which case perhasp the usb implementation is to blame).  Hope there will be a firmware/driver fix soon.

I have marked this as answered as it was more a post to help others who may have experienced the same problem I did and didn't get a reply or just didn't know that this program could be the reason their Windows Mail has issues that can't seem to be resolved any other way apart from ignore them and hope they don't get worse.

  • Sound won't work properly under Windows XP

Under Bootcamp (Windows XP SP 3, fresh installed) the sound from the right loudspeaker is a LOT louder than the sound from the left one. Under Mac OS everythings seems to be normal.
What could that be? Especially when I play games under windows it sounds awful.

  • I installed a configurator in CS6 Extension Manager. However it does not appear in CS6 under  Window

I installed a configurator in CS6 Extension manager whch went fine. However in CS6 under  Window > extensions the configurator does not show up

    Hi 1432690,
Which configurator did you install? Is it a ZXP or MXP file? Which product( such as Photoshop, InDesign, ... ) does this configurator support? Where can we download this configurator? Is there any error during installation? In order to list this extension in Extension Manager, you have to select the correct product in the left  panel of Extension Manager first. Thanks.

  • Speeding up footage: Best in FCP or does Optical Flow work better?

Quick consensus guys: I have footage of a woman rolling a burrito, but unfortunately she did it verrrrrrrry slow! I know in FCP I can simply change the speed there, but I was wondering if Optical flow also works better for "Fast-motion"?
I know optical flow is more for simulating a smooter "over-cranking" effect or ramping, but what about for my application here?
As always, thanks for your time and advice.
    -Mike

And I forgot to imply, using optical flow would be in Motion.

  • Does 3.1 work better then 3.0 ?

The project is using the BC4J and JSPs.
We are considering moving from 3.0 to JDeveloper 3.1, and deploy using OAS 4.0.8.2.
Can anyone share her/his exeriences with this configuration? Will the things get better after moving to JDeveloper 3.1 or will they get worse?
    Thanks for any information

JDevloper 3.1 has lot of new features, enhancements and bugfixes for 3.0.
    Check out http://technet.oracle.com/products/jdev/info/jds31_fo/Jds31_fo.html

  • X220 BIOS/Firmware - does it support "Secure Boot" under Windows 8?

I am getting ready to install W8x64 Pro.  I have a X220 with the latest BIOS (1.36 if I recall correctly) using Windows 7x64 currently.  I have run the Upgrade Assistant and it says: "Secure Boot isn't compatible with your PC."  "Your firmware doesn't support Secure Boot so you won't be able to use it in Windows 8."
Assuming when I install W8x64 bit I have "Boot to UEFI First" and "UEFI BIOS Only" set in the BIOS - and the SSD formatted as a GPT SSD - should Secure Boot work?
The 1.36 BIOS is not listed as Windows 8 compatible.  I see there is a BIOS for the X230 that is W8 compatible but I am not going to install it.
At any rate - for any of you X220 users - you can click on "System Information" in W8 or type in "msinfo32" in the run script and it will say whether "Secure Boot" is Unsupported or On.
Here is a Lenovo link for installing W7 using UEFI but it does not mention whether you would be able to be in "Secure Mode" at the end.

Latest firmware is supposed to support Windows 8. But I don't know what support is supposed to mean... I'd say that if you've installed under UEFI and still doesn't enable, it doesn't.
Thou now that I think of... After I installed using UEFI, I had to go back to the BIOS and change some setting. Reset-some-key or something. I can't restart the computer now but whenever I restart it I'll let you know which setting it was. (it can be several days)
    Good luck.
If I helped you, please give me some kudos! ^^

  • I recently upgraded from Snow Leopard to Lion and now some CDs I use for school do not work.  Can I create a partition to run both Snow Leopard and LIon or does it only work to run windows?  How do I do this?

Getting a new CD from publisher is not an option as they would want me to pay for a new one and they are pricey.  If possible I would prefer to keep my upgrade to lion but would go back to leopard if there's no other option.

You can add another partition on which you can install Snow Leopard. If you do, however, you cannot use Boot Camp Assistant to install Windows. Just so you know.
To resize the drive do the following:
    1. Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
After the main menu appears select Disk Utility and click on the Continue button. Select the hard drive's main entry then click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    2. You should see the graphical sizing window showing the existing partitions. A portion may appear as a blue rectangle representing the used space on a partition.
    3. In the lower right corner of the sizing rectangle for each partition is a resizing gadget. Select it with the mouse and move the bottom of the rectangle upwards until you have reduced the existing partition enough to create the desired new volume's size. The space below the resized partition will appear gray. Click on the Apply button and wait until the process has completed.  (Note: You can only make a partition smaller in order to create new free space.)
    4. Click on the [+] button below the sizing window to add a new partition in the gray space you freed up. Give the new volume a name, if you wish, then click on the Apply button. Wait until the process has completed.
You should now have a new volume on the drive.
It would be wise to have a backup of your current system as resizing is not necessarily free of risk for data loss.  Your drive must have sufficient contiguous free space for this process to work.
Boot from your Snow Leopard DVD and install on the volume you just created. Be sure you set the new partition as the target for your Snow Leopard system.
