I see all my photos in the photo stream are in my camera roll. I am fine with icloud space but not iphone space.

When you take a photo or video, or save a photo from another source such as a webpage, text message, FaceBook, etc., it is saved to the camera roll. If you have photo stream enabled on your device, these camera roll photos (not videos) are then uploaded to your photo stream in iCloud when your device is connected to wifi, has the camera app closed, and has at least 20% battery life remaining. Photo stream then streams these photos to any iOS devices or computers that are syncing with your iCloud account with photo stream enabled. This allows you to take a photo (for example), and have it automatically added to your other devices. Since your iPod is one of these devices, it will also receive a copy of the photo in the my photo stream album. If by "user name" you mean your iCloud account ID name, if it isn't an @me or @mac, you can change it as outlined here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HE40. After changing it, to change it on your device you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, then sign back in with the changed name. When you delete the account it deletes the account and your synced data from your device, but not from iCloud. Provided you are signing back into the same account and not changing accounts, your data will be synced back to your device when you sign back in.

1. What format is the external drive? It sounds like it's ina format that Macs can't write to. Is it a NAS or NTFS?
2. Easiest thing: just move your iPhoto Library to the external
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
1. Quit iPhoto
2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.

Otherwise not. There is only one copy of the photos on the iPod but you can access it either from your Camera Roll or PhotoStream albums.

That problem is probably with your iPhone and not with iPhoto.
But try to download again to your Mac, this time use "Image Capture" instead of iPhoto.
Launch Image Capture from your applications folder.
Connect your phone to a USB port.
Select all the photos in your camera roll to be deleted.
Then press the "delete" key.
If there are photos on your iPhone that have been synced with iTunes, they can only be deleted by syncing again and deselecting the albums:

It is my understanding that the name displayed here will be that which is (in Contacts) associated with the email address for the Apple ID registered with the iCloud account of the person on the stream.
In other words, check to see if the contact entry for your brother in your iPhone has an email address. If this email address in his contact entry is also associated with the Apple ID that your sister-in-law is using for iCloud (which is responsible for Photo Streams), this could be the cause of the delemma. I believe this is a programmed feature and not a bug, but I'm not positive about the methods iCloud uses to display that name.
In order to troubleshoot this, delete that email address in your brother's Contact entry and add it to your sister-in-law's Contact entry. This could correct the issue. If that works, you could then add the email back to your brother's entry (so that it is in both of their entries) and see what happens.

they were never imported to a comp but yes the pics were saved on my photo stream buti acutally first deleted off photo stream. what i did was create a folder within my albums then added the 60 photos to the album, then deleted 1 off photo stream to test and it didnt delete from my new folder, then deleted all off photo stream and then i thought i could delete off camera roll, then did that and realised it also deleted off my new folder created - so was left with nothing!

In Iphoto, How can I delete photos on my iphone that have already been imported?

I've just spent over the hour on the phone with my sister (who has a law degree, I have an engineering degree), and we could not figure out how to delete photos from our iphones that have already been imported into Iphoto. I thought Apple was the company that made things easier??? This is a nightmare.
The way it should work:
- Launch iPhoto
- Stand on iPhone (Under Devices)
- Select photo to delete (under Already Imported)
- Right-Click Delete (or Send to Trash, or Something)
Obviously we are not thinking like Apple thinks...does anyone know how to do this, or are these programs as crap as they seem and you have to go back to your iphone and select each photo one at a time (all several thousands of them).
Don't even get me started on how messed up my photo libraries have become now that I have (fully) switch over to Apple.
By the way, I like my Mac for everything else...but its photo capabilities suck.

Thanks, I was hoping for something a little more selective that I could do from my computer, but I think this is helpful.
Maybe the best approach to get this under control is:
- Import all photos into iphoto
- Delete all photos per your suggestion
- Selectivly sync the photos you want put back on your phone

P.S. I still wouldn't mind finding a way to selectively delete files that are on my iphone from my computer. (In Windows, you can go to My Computer -> Iphone, open the folder and delete what you want).

Is there a way that I can Delete All under Edit in either Photos or Camera on my iPhone and check about 20 ijmages to remain on the iPhone? I could find no command to Select All and then uncheck the 20 photos I want to keep.

I have Version 6.1.3 because the clogged storage will not allow me to upload Version 7.1. Catch 22. This is basically a storage issue, I believe. I cannot delete enough stuff on my iPhone to allow me to either back up or upload the new OS 7. I am unwilling to pay for more storage in iCloud, so I want to delete stuff I don't need. But I haven't yet figured out how to successfully do that. I synch my phone and computer. I want to delete mail on the Mail app and photos and still keep my photos on my computer on iPhoto, but not on my phone. I seem unable to do that. Any advice?

Just as photos that were taken more than 30 days ago remain on your MacBook Air, so will photos that are deleted from your iPhone.
Photos in My Photo Stream are saved on the iCloud server for 30 days.
Because your Mac and PC have more storage than your iOS devices, you can choose to download all of your My Photo Stream photos automatically.
In iPhoto or Aperture preferences on your Mac, select Photos (or Photo Stream) > My Photo Stream > Automatic Import. All of your photo stream photos will import into your Events, Projects, Photos, Faces, and Places folders in iPhoto or Aperture.

1. When in the iOS 7 Photo app you tap Photo button in the bottom toolbar.
2. Then you tap Select in the top right Navbar
3. Then find a photo which is NOT in the Photo-stream and NOT in the Camera Roll. I have a bunch of these for some reason after updating to iOS 7. These photos will get a checkmark, but will not turn the trash can blue.
4. You can then select a photo that IS IN Photo-stream. It will also get a checkmark and the counter will display (2), and the trash can will turn Blue.
5. You can then tap the blue trash can. The Photo-stream selected photo gets deleted BUT the photo the selected photo that is NOT in Photo-stream and NOT in camera roll IS Still There!

You can't for two reasons: First, the iPhone doesn't have a hard drive. Second, there is no Trash folder, so once something is deleted it is gone forever. If you enabled Photo Stream they are also in iCloud. But if you didn't take advantage of any of these backup options you are out of luck.
