Does Desktop Manager v 4.2.2 work on Win 7?

Phone model: Pearl 8100
Hi -
I have Desktop Manager 4.2.2.14 on a PC with Vista. I can sync my contacts / calendar without any problems. I recently got another PC with WIn 7 and loaded the same version of DM but now I get an "Unknown Error" when I try to set the sync config. Can anyone help me figure out if this is a Win 7 compatibility issue or if its a different problem.
Also, what is the latest version of DM that I can use with my 8100? I had tried a later version some time ago and had some trouble so went back to my tried and tested v4.2.
Finally, will I be able to sync to two different PCs if they have different versions of DM?
Thanks.

Hi sanm and welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums!
Only BlackBerry Desktop Manager 5.0.1 is supported on Windows 7.  You can download it at http://www.blackberry.com/go/softwaredownloads.

I have installed and uninstalled the software 10 times today.    The desktop manager is loading and my computer is "seeing" my smartphone.  When the manager opens, none of the icons are active.   As such, when I cursor over the "synchronication" icon -- it highlights - -but links to nowhere.   I have downloaded the software from the CD that came with my phone AND I have downloaded it 4 times from online.
Desktop manager worked yesterday for my 8830 -- I had to get a new phone and now I can't retrieve any of my contacts!

  • Bluetooth Desktop Manager communications - a Solution

There has been some chat about this already on this forum, but I haven't seen a simple statement of the problem, its cause, and the solution.  As of today I have a Blackberry (an 8310) successfully resyncing over Bluetooth, so here's a quick summary.
The Problem (if you have one)
    ======================
You can't get the "Synchronize" Option in Blackberry Desktop Manager 4.1-up to work over Bluetooth with your Blackberry.  (And for this discussion we will assume that you CAN get it to work over USB - just not over Bluetooth.
    The Cause
    ========
The cause is that your computer and your Blackberry are not communicating properly over Bluetooth.  You may have no Bluetooth connectivity between the two at all, or it may seem that you have the BB and computer properly paired - either way it is an illusion and makes no difference.  If you can't complete the following on your computer - get to the Options/Connection Settings dialog box in Desktop Manager, check the "Enable Bluetooth Support" box, hit "Configure Bluetooth", hit "Add" and then successfuly see and add your BB handleld - then you can safely assume you do not have the proper type of Bluetooth connection you need to make it all work properly for the BB.  Quit trying and read on.
Assuming you have Bluetooth on your computer working properly for other uses (ie. not broken), that you have Bluetooth discoverability turned on for both computer and BB and that your BB is healthy, the problem is with the Bluetooth drivers on your computer.  Specifically the problem is that many Bluetooth drivers handle the usual Bluetooth functions like audio connection and networking, but NOT the one function you need, which is data transfer.  Hence these drivers - which are almost always proprietary, non-Microsoft drivers - may work just fine for many purposes but they will never, ever talk to your BB in the way that you need them to.
The solution is to replace the Bluetooth driver you have with the generic Microsoft Bluetooth driver from Service Pack 2 or later.  These Service Packs are easy to download and install from Microsoft, but the trick is that this does NOT replace the Bluetooth drivers your computer is actually using.  Even deleting the Bluetooth drivers doesn't work because the computer instantly realizes it is missing the driver, looks for the appropriate Okie Fenokee brand driver that goes with the Okie Fenokee Bluetooth driver definition still sitting there in your proprietary computer, thoughtfully re-installs it and leaves you back right where you started.
    The Solution
    =========
The solution is easy once you know.  I DO NOT PROMISE what this may do to other Bluetooth applications you have working perfectly right now, so if Grandma's kidney dialysis machine is hooked intimately to your working Bluetooth setup as it is right now, then proceed no further.  Otherwise, hit "Start" and right-click on My Computer, then left-click on "Properties".   Choose "Hardware", then "Device Manager".  Find "Bluetooth Radios" in the list you get, expand it, and then delete EVERY entry you get below it in the hierarchy.  Now get back out of all that.  You have left your computer with a piece of hardware (the Bluetooth radio) and absolutely no software to drive it.  Your computer will realize this and immediately start searching for software (drivers) to remedy the problem.  It will ask you where to search, so make sure it either picks up the current MICROSOFT drivers from the web or the MICROSOFT drivers you have lying around (unused, till now) on your computer from a previous installation of Service Pack 2 or higher.  This is easily checked just by going back into My Computer/Properties/Hardware/Device Manager/Bluetooth Radios and looking.
Give it all a minute to settle and then the previously-mentioned procedure- get to the Options/Connection Settings dialog box in Desktop Manager, check the "Enable Bluetooth Support" box, hit "Configure Bluetooth", hit "Add" and then successfuly see and add your BB handleld - should work.  Moments later you'll see the PIN of your BB appear at the top of the Connection Settings dialog box, a sure sign of success.  Now just go ahead and finish configuring Desktop Manager as you would normally, do the Sync and all's well!  Contrary to some beliefs you do NOT need to do one successful USB sync before Bluetooth synce will work; the Bluetooth problem is entirely about having the right Bluetooth drivers that can cope with the special needs of the BB.
Hope this helps and good luck!

Your solution sounds pretty good but doesn't work for me.  I'm running Vista with service pack 1 and two USB-Bluetooth adapters I've bought have no Microsoft driver.  The manufacturer's driver works great but device manager does not find a Microsoft driver.
Is there a registry key I can modify?  What about a list of compatible USB-Bluetooth adapters?
I'll try another adapter from a different manufacturer but most of them do not list Vista as a supported os.
By the way.  Just what is so special about the Microsoft driver that Desktop Manager needs?  The whole point of a Bluetooth and USB interface is to isolate the app from the implementation to avoid just this type of circumstance. Almost implies that Desktop Manager doesn't support Vista.
    Thanks,
    Bill

  • Uncaught error java nullpoint exception, email icons disappeared, application loader unable to back up data, desktop manager unable to connect

    Model:  Curve 8900
    Provider: At&t
    Platform: 4.2.0.108
I'm ready to throw this phone in the blender.... if I could only back up my data first. A couple of months ago the What's App application required an update. I updated it and ever since my phone has steadily had more and more issues. First, I kept getting this uncaught error message, shortly thereafter the 2 email accounts (both gmail) that I have linked to the account disappeared. The message icon shows that I have messages, but icons not there (I have tried the show all option). At one point the message icon started exponentially adding the number of messages until it got up to over 86,000. When I reboot the phone it goes back down and then steadily increases again... usually though it's more to 400 - 500 rather then tens of thousands. I have been trying to install updates and do a wipe of the BB so that I can start from scratch, unfortunately the application loader is unable to back up data. The desktop manager is unable to connect to the blackberry and indicates that an upgrade is required. I have tried doing the upgrade both directly from the phone and connected to the desktop manager, but nothing seems to work. If I try to upgrade the software directly from the BB, I get to the start download button and when I click, nothing happens. I have removed all applications except bberry app world and one game that I play, Pixelated Plus. Still nothing. Any ideas?

Do you want to save the messages?
If not (and I think they are the problem) open the Desktop Software > Device > Delete Data and click the "select Data" option. Select the Messages to remove. Complete the prompts and finish.
Then, return to backup the entire device, and see if that is possible to complete this time with no messages.
Now, once the back up is done and you have your data, you can disconnect the device.
Now, use BBSAK to wipe the device and subsequently load the new operating system.
**If you cannot complete the backup again above, you might have to do without it, OR you can use the Desktop Software to sync your Address book, calendar, memos and tasks to Outlook. OR, you can easily install and use BlackBerry Protect to backup your device over the air to RIM servers, then once wiped and the new OS reloaded, you can use Protect to restore the data back to the 8900. << This you should do regardless.
Good luck, post back here as you have questions.

  • Sun Ray Server Software and Sun Desktop Manager integration

    Hello,
I have installed and configured SRSS and Desktop Manager..and they're working.
    But... how to integrate them?...

Will the Sun Ray Server Software 1.2 for Workgroup
Servers work on a Sun Blade 100?Yes, it'll work. An SB100 won't support many
concurrent Sun Ray users but it'll be OK for a
handful of users doing normal (non-multimedia)
work. Put as much physical memory into the box
as you can afford, and remember to configure an
    appropriate amount of swap.

  • Desktop Manager for BB Tour 9630 keeps crashing

Hubby and I both have tours. We updated to Desktop manager 6.0. His works fine off his computer.  Mine will load the software, run once and then crash indicating that Blackberry software has stopped working.   I am on Window 7 64 bit on an HP computer.   We have tried uninstalling the software, backing up the files and reloading several times with the same result.  I uploaded the recent 6.0.24 (or whatever it was) a few weeks ago with the same result.  If  I go back to version 5.0 I can run that desktop manager.
I do have some video files on my phone my husband does not.
Is there a reason and a fix for this problem?

    Hi,
I am not sure what may be causing your crash, but you might try running the program with the compatibility mode set to Windows Vista.  If the program keeps crashing, you can delete the program and download the 5.0 version from http://na.blackberry.com/eng/services/desktop/system_requirements.jsp#tab_tab_5.0 and go back to that verison.

  • 8310 desktop manager won't see photos in mass storage mode to transfer to computer

Redownloaded desktop manager today. Wasn't working. Download complete - no roxio on my computer software - should it show up separately? Will sync. Tells me no photos to download. Mass storage mode is on. What am I doing wrong? Thanks - Launa

    Dear Launa
Do these things for your problem solution
AS you said re downloading completed an no roxio i dam shore that you donwload desktop manager 5.0 or 5.1 that will never work. Just follow the tips below
    1.     download latest software from the BB web site its free. the latest version is 6.1
    2.     Install and connect your device with PC using USB or Bluetooth. I preffer Cable (USB)
    3.     Run it go to My Videos, My Pictures which are appeared on the left hand side pan of the software screen.
    4.     Sync what ever you want.
If that does not work then do these
    1.     If your data is on the memory card (Mostly the pictures and videos by default on the memory card but some time it is by default the phone memeory. If on the memory card then
    2.     unplug you BB ad plug your BB again this time when you connect with the pc a message will be displayed on your BB screen which ask you to start Mass storage or not.
    3.    Start Mass storage and copy paste the pictures you want from BB to PC or PC to BB
    4.    For memory card instead of pluging the cable you can use a Memory Card Reader. But Mass Storage will be prefferd coz in that way you are able to browse both memories PHONE and CARD but in memory card case you just able to view card details not phone.
    5.   Some time the folders are hidden in your PC and on the card for that Unhide all by going
if wndows 7 or vista then
My COmputer - > Organize  -> Organize Folder and Stettings -> Scroll down and locate folder view and click the radio Show HIdden files and Folders. After that just beneth the Show Hidden Files and Folder Radio three options are checked "Hide Extentions for known file type and Hide protected operaing system files (recomended), just uncheck all of these and click ok it will prompt and message when unchecking just do it. and you see all the hidden files on the card. YOu can do it b going on Control Panel
    For XP Users
Go to My Computer -> Tools -> Folder Option and the options are same as above stated  and same here also you can do it by control pannel
Just let me know if this will solve your problem

  • Problems with Desktop Manager v5.0

Hey! Sorry if this has been asked before but i've been google searching with no luck.
I bought a BlackBerry Curve 8520 today and I'm having trouble with the Desktop Manager. I used the disk that came with the phone and installed v5.0. The Desktop Manager itself seems to be working fine and recognises my phone no problem, but the Media Manager isn't working. When I click "Launch" on the Media Manager I get the error message "Roxio Easy Media Creator: The certificate file is missing or has been corrupted. Please re-install it." I've tried reinstalling and repairing the software but still get the same error message. Does anyone know how I can fix it?
    Thanks in advance!

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
Easy Media Creator is not, to my knowledge, part of the RIM released desktop software (with Media Manager). What that tells me is that you have another type of Roxio software on that PC...and that has been known to cause odd problems, such as what you are experiencing. If you don't need Media Manager, then I encourage you to download the version of the RIM DTM software that excludes Media Manager. You can obtain that here:
    https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads/entry.do?code=A8BAA56554F96369AB93E4F3BB068C22
Otherwise, you'd likely be advised to remove that other Roxio software in order to install DTM with Media Manager.
Good luck and let us know!

  • Desktop Manager will no longer sync my address book!

I have had a 3G Curve for about 3 months and I originally was able to sync my MS Outlook calendar, tasks and contact lists at work (Windows XP & MS Outlook 2003 then 2007) and at home (Windows Vista and MS Outlook 2003).  About 3 weeks ago I stopped being able to do this.  When I sync at work it just stops after syncing calendar and tasks.  At home it says Address Book (not installed).  I have uninstalled Desktop manager at home and at work and I get the same thing with a reinstall.
I am at work and I just tried unclicking contacts in my email settings screen.  My phone says wireless synchronization is unavailable, so that isn't fixing it either!  I saw both these tips on prior posts on this site.
I am headed home now and hopefully when I log back in someone will have told me how to fix this problem.  I have a Blackberry so I can sync my Outlook calendar, contact list and set up and send group texts.  I am very frustrated with this issue now.
Hopefully there is help for me!

Sorry about the mistake in where this posted...I"m new to the board and trying to figure out how it all works. L

  • Apploader.msi Error when launching Desktop Manager 5.0

Tried to launch Desktop Manager 5.0 today to sync my BB Curve 8310 and a Windows Installer error pops up.   Desktop Manager 5.0 has been working fine up to now.
The error message says, " The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable".   It is looking for the Apploader.msi file in the C:\Documents and Settings\user\Application Data\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\ directory.
Can't seem to find it and have no idea why I'm having this problem now after working fine before.
    Any suggestions??
    Thanks,
    Herb...

This is really odd...is this a work computer? Did they redirect your C: drive to a server somehow? Do you have perhaps a different truly local hard drive that you could use as the installation destination? Really odd indeed...
