Does early '11 MBPs support 16GB ram?

I have an early 2011 13-inch MacBook Pro. I was just wondring if it will support 16GB RAM? The apple website says it can only support up to 8GB but I read elsewhere that it is able to support 16GB.
Specs:
CPU: 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5
RAM: 4GB 1333MHz DDR3
DATE OF RELEASE: Early 2011, 13-inch MacBook Pro

Mine does.
Crucial.com and macsales.com (OWC) sell RAM that is tested to be compatible with MAC and will guide you to the proper RAM.  I am running crucial 16 Gb now.

Can macbook pro 15 inch i7 2.2 GHz support 16GB ram?

    Yes.
But Apple only says/does 8GB and charges $435 to do it.
If you want to save a ton of money, you can do 16GB yourself for $280 and a DIY kit.
Doesn't break the warranty as long as you don't break anything in the process.

    Hi,
    1. Based on the following link, your machine only supports DDR2 RAM:
       http://www.crucial.com/upgrade/HP+-+Compaq-memory/Pavilion+DV7+Series/Pavilion+dv7-3020sa-upgrades.h...
2, No, this will not work and you can not put in physically.

  • Late 2011 MBP w/ 16GB ram Locks Up Constantly

    i7, 2.2, 16gb ram
Locks up when i leave my computer for more than 10 minutes. I have never been more dissapoted in Apple as I am right now. Ive tried changing energy settings, and I have tried changing screen saver. I have to cold reset every time. Its rediculous.

Mountain Lion is 100% better , stable and overall nicer when compared to Lion, so all the issues are for sure not OS related, yes.
If the check for incompatible extensions/apps is not succesfull, I would advise the User to make a full time machine backup of its current OS, then "clean install" ( wiping the hard disk ) MountainLion and carefully only install compatible apps one after the other again. His personal files can be extracted then from the Timemachine backup.
    Within the "Install OS X " Mountain Lion app ( option-click : "Show content" ) is a dmg included : InstallESD.dmg.
This can be restored to a DVD, a USB and thus you have a bootable disk/stick to do the clean install easily.
Use a search-engine of your choice to ask the internet, there are advanced howto's for both Lion and MountainLion - method is the same -  if more questions arise.

  • Upgrade of mid-2012 MBP to 16GB RAM actually work?

I've got a 15-inch mid-2012 non-Retina MacBook Pro. Apple's website explicitly states that the maximum RAM supported on this machine is 8GB, but I see that Crucial is selling an upgrade to 16GB for my machine.http://www.crucial.com/systemscanner/viewscanbyid.aspx?id=A978FEAC31D926C3 (I found this link by using the Crucial System Scanner, and also verified the stated compatibility with my machine by using Crucial's compatibility chart.) I telephoned AppleCare and spoke to a senior person, who reported back that the reason that Apple's website lists the 8GB maximum for my machine is that the motherboard won't "see" anything past 8GB of RAM. He said I could install the 16GB of RAM but that it wouldn't do any good. Since Crucial is actually selling 16GB of RAM for my machine, either Apple or Crucial is misinformed. Can someone please comment whether you have ever upgraded from 8GB to 16GB of RAM on this model of MBP, and if it made a difference? Metrics would help if you have them! Thank you.

Ouch. Perhaps the memory will fit, but consider your warranty before you march forward. I have a mid 2012 15" MacBook Pro with the Retina display, and 500G flash drive. I also ran the Crucial Memory App, and found that 16GB of RAM was offered "guaranteed" by Crucial to fit into my Mac. I had 8GB installed, but use the Mac to game and thought a RAM upgrade would benefit me. I've trusted Crucial (and still do) for years. All my memory upgrades come from Crucial, and I recommend them. However.. I received the memory, then proceeded to research how to install it. After a lot of searching, I finally called Apple. I have AppleCare (APP) on my Mac. No go, very much no go. Apple tells me the memory is soldered onto the motherboard on the Retina MacBook. Upgrades are only offered through Apple certified centeres, or my warranties are both void. Likewise, 8GB was the max memory Apple allows. The Tech likewise told me adding over Apple's recommended amount voids my warranty.  That last part may apply to you. If Apple states 8GB is the max, and your computer is under warranty, then I'd get something from Apple in writing before installing over that amount.

  • G780 core i5-3210M supports 16Gb RAM

My worksite was looking for a laptop with at least 16Gb of RAM capacity for image analysis and processing. Took a chance on the G780 with the 3210M i5, as stated max capacity on Newegg was the standard 8Gb.
We used a G.Skill DDR3 1333 2 x 8Gb dual channel  kit and the G780 detected it all without issue. No issues in memtest. This kit has a CAS latency of 9.

  • MBP Retina 16gb RAM in stock?

Anyone know if the retail stores stock the high end retina with 16GBs of memory? It seems this would be in high demand since it can't be upgraded later. A colleague asked me when I discussed the new one I have

Custom builds [ones containing 16GB of RAM] can only be purchased from the Apple Online Store. If your local store has it, chances are they purchased it from the Apple Online Store as well. It never hurts to go to your local retailer and seeing if they have it in stalk. Chances are they will tell you the same thing; that 16GB models are only available via Apple Online Store purchase.
    Cheers.
