Does email interfere with a FCP editing system?

Old school system setup prohibited email or even internet on a video edit system partition. For example, my Avid DS system specified NO external connections, no internet, no email, no local network, nothing. Avid didn't even want a Jazz drive connected.
Is this still the practice on Final Cut Pro systems? I have always had email and net on my FCP partition, but I can't say it has ever been totally stable.
What is common practice now? Does anyone have trouble from this stuff today

Nope...works fine.
I can e-mail, surf the web and use iChat on my editing system.
I don't, as I have a laptop that I use for this, but when I was without one for a week, I did that all the time.
No problems. Avid used to have probelms, and had to be set up VERY SPECIFICALLY. And Avid DS was the worse. Now you can use e-mail with Avids, the later models.
And it has never been a problem with FCP.

Why should Apple fix the problem? Maybe you should consider NOT upgrading if an expensive piece of (obsolete) software you're running won't work with it...

Does dbxml work with db java edition

hello all:
I am new to dbxml, I found the java API of dbxml must deployed with libdbxml_java*, libdbcxx* libraries.
does it working with pure java implementation, je-?-?-?.jar.

DBXML code is written in C++ with difefrent bindings for multiple languages, like Perl or Java. Therefore DB XML utilizes C++ version of BDB and can't use BDB Java Edition.

Does BC work with "Make attribute editable"?

Previously, I've built templates which include editable optional regions where I can then edit the template properties and adjust the classes using Modify > Template > Make Attribute Editable, and be able to change the class of an item per page. When I try to do this now, Modify > Template properties is greyed out, so I can't implement this feature (I'm assuming because it's a BC-integrated template). Does this feature integrate well with BC? I can't figure out the best way to implement a sub-menu system where the current page class changes for a menu item (see image). Any thoughts/ideas? I don't want to hve to make 15 templates to have to edit.
Would content holders work?

Not what I was refering to in terms of the tag but admin use. You may not use the admin to manage sites but cleints do. I see a lot of people develop or build BC sites in a way that do not consider their cleints using it properly. I Can implement heaps more things then I actually do for clients but I do not do so if it wont be nice to manage. It is scraped and other sollutions made. Even if that means more scripting.
I did the above ONCE and the client had a very very hard time managing their pages in the admin, it was a mess and never did it again.
Script could work but you would also need to strip out the spaces or replace them with regex. The effort though and then the need to add them in into the css manually each time is not really very maangeble. There are a number of other options instead.

Hi. I'm very interested in testing Wayland but I don't know if its better to use it standalone or to use it along a DE. If it is better to use a DE, which one? Will it conflict with Xorg?

First, wayland and xorg surely DO NOT interfere.
If you want to test wayland, you need a "wayland compositor" (quite different with X). Some notable examples now are weston (the reference compositor), mutter in Gnome, and Enlightenment's E19 (not released yet), KDE is in the way of porting to wayland. weston can be launched in X (actually for easier debugging) or under the terminal (using drm). Gnome 3.12 need some hack to launch under wayland. But long words short, they are not quite mature and contain some bugs, although many of which are fixed upstream.
Xwayland is used run X application under wayland (some support in the compositor is also needed, E19 doesn't have support for it yet). But there are even more bugs (in my opinion), and there are certain problems in hardware enablement.
So in all, if you want to test wayland for fun, just try it with one of these compositors (weston is the easiest one). If you want to use it smoothly, maybe you'll have to wait for some time. I believe weston 1.6.0 and GNOME 3.14 must bring much better wayland experience.

Why does RI interfere with component id's ?

I am creating a page with a lot dhtml & javascript and am having problems getting
references to html elements because the RI keeps prefixing my component id's with
the id's of it's container(s).
For instance, from guessNumber:

</h:form>I realize that to qualify userNo from this example is not rocket science, but in real life the nesting can become quite complex, many times dynamic.
Can someone explain to me why this approach has been taken ? Naively, I would have expected the
RI (and myfaces) to leave an ID alone if it was controlled by the application. After all, Mozilla and IE have
no problems retrieving an element via the getElementById function....without using any namespace, at least I think so.
In this case, all I want to do is swap one image for another when the user clicks on it, the drawback being my graphicImage is deeply nested inside the component tree.
Does anyone have any suggestion/approaches for addressing this issue with pages that use a lot of javascript or dhtml ?

It's JSF, not the RI.
Some component has a thing called "named component" or something like that. For customized component, I am sure you can override this. However, it's not a quick thing to do a customized components. I am not sure if you can turn this off (such as an attribute on a named component).

Does Lion interfere with Excel 2011 language support for Korean, Chinese?

I was able to use Excel 2011 for several languages including Korean and Chinese when I was on Snow Leopard.
Now, after upgrading to Lion, I can't figure out how to get that functionality.
I have used the Microsoft Language Register to get the Japanese character set to appear correctly. What do I need to do to get the other character sets to appear?

I'm copying data out of a multi language database and pasting into excel. On Snow Leopard I was able to paste Korean and Chinese characters into excel. Now, I get a box with a small in the place of Chinese/Korean characters.
I'm sure this is a matter of just not having a setting set properly, but I can't find it and I can't find anything online about it.

This is usually caused by some sort of class loader problem. Either the Oracle DB class loader changed in a way that breaks access to resources in jar files, or something has changed in your configuration.

When I updated my iPod to the new os, it does not work with my ford sync system anymore. how do I fix this?

Have lots of issues with Fords MySync and here's some info that might help....
Using ford sync interface, goto the phone section, then settings, and look if your iPhones name is listed, if so select the phone name thru sync interface and remove/delete it from the sync list, then go thru the Bluetooth pairing process again.
If that doesn't work, do the same on the iPhone, select ford sync entry in Bluetooth and remove sync or forget this device on the iPhone and then go thru Bluetooth pairing again.
If that doesn't work Power off iphone ( not sleep) hold power button till you see red slider to power off. Then restart iphone, try pairing up again.
If that doesn't work go back to MySync and goto phone settings and use the up-down slider till you see sync master reset. Confirm then go thru BT pairing again.
If that doesn't work there is a fuse for the my sync system. Fuse box is usually behind kick panel of front passenger seat side for the Mustang #3, its behind a paper black cover. Remove fuse for 5-30 secs then replace.
Lastly, make sure your MySync Firmware is the latest vers. Mines 4.0.2 goto fords MySync support page to check

How does Mercalli compare with FCP X's Image Stabilizer?

Last night we were shown some videos which had been stabilised using Mercalli.

The steadiness was excellent but as we were not shown the original footage there was no way of judging the improvement.
Has anyone used this system and if so how does it compare with FCP X's stabiliser?

* poor-man's-Compressor is the free tool Mpeg Streamclip.
It offers in its various Options lots of settings, you usually would do in Compressor. Just share a Master from FCPX, open it in Streamclip and then 'export' it in any compressed form you like, e.g. reducing resolution, frame-rate, bit-rate. Less convenient than Compressor, which would allow to add your very own settings/'destinations' into FCPX... but cost-free.-
