Does Encore WT8-B support x64 Windows 10?

Hello
I was recently gifted an Encore WT8-B, pretty happy with it.
I wanted to ask if it has UEFI and x64 OS support, the CPU is x64 but stupidly Toshiba only put x32 Windows 8.1 on it.
First of all, why was this choice made? I understand it only has 1GB memory, but AFAIK x64 is more secure and offers a few other features, this tablet wasn't released until 2014 and I cannot think of literally any reason to use a 32 bit OS, besides maybe MS sold the licenses cheaper?
AFAIK they are giving Windows 10 away for free to all manufacturers as long as they use it on a device with under a 10" screen, did they do this with Windows 8.1?
I want to ask if you think there is any real performance benefit to installing x64 Windows 10 on this device, if it supports it.
Just seeing " System type: 32-bit Operating System, x64-based processor " in Control Panel > System is seriously bothering my OCD, knowing that (AFAIK) there is literally no reason for this, makes it even worse!

Display doesn't work anymore on my Encore WT8-A

Hey everyone,
I have an Encore WT8-A-102 with Windows 8.1
One morning, when I tried to start it (not from standby/hibernation but normal start) nothing happend anymore. the display stayed black. only when I touched the windows button sometimes it vibrated.
I have one possible answer why this is happening. I used the SD-Card of the tablet to update the firmware of my audio player (Fiio X3). I had to put an *.fw file onto the SD-Card and after updating the player I put the card back into the tablet without deleting the file.
Is it possible that the tablet tried to boot from the SD-Card and run the firmware update which was not meant to be used for this device?
I didn't create a USB recovery stick...

If You have problem with enter to BIOS:
- go to page and download firmware
*https://support.toshiba.com/support/modelHome?freeText=1200007163* (if it is Your model)
- on PC download and install https://www.7-zip.org/ (or use PeaZip)
- unpack all files from OS2014095A_TC30678200D_1.60.exe (right mouse Button - extract to...) fo folder default folder OS2014095A_TC30678200D_1.60 or other name folder (use 7zip unpacker)
- unpack identically next file (in unpacked folder) *Malta_WinBios_1.60.exe* to tolder
- check file *Malta1.60.fd* and copy to SD card and boot (maybe flashed from SD)
I don't tested on my Encore - maybe working.

Encore WT8 - Disable driver signature enforcement

I need to install a Fiio DAC driver which keeps failing.
Fiio themselves say that I need to disable driver signature enforcement in order to install the driver.
I've followed their instructions with regard to Windows 8.1 but when I get to the final selection screen where I need to press the f7 key, the keyboard is not accessible.
Is there any way around this as without it I will not ba able to use the DAC.

Hi dude
I would recommend you to check if its really possible to install and to use such driver on an Windows tablet. Secondly, the Encore WT8 tablet supports an external keyboard via USB or Bluetooth.
So in case your issue is related to not visible keyboard, I would recommend you to test an external keyboard plugged to the tablet.

Encore WT8 - screen Mirroring on TV does not work

Hello,
I have a KDL42-W653A television which supports screen mirroring over WiFi.
However, I cannot get it to work with the Toshiba Encore W8 tablet.
The tablet detects the television, I enter the number, but the television never shows the tablet's screen.
Both the television and the tablet are on the latest firmware.
Another thread indicates there is an update for HDMI in January. I hope that covers this too.

By mirroring over WiFi what technology you mean exactly?
Miracast, Intel WiDi, DisplayLink?
Toshiba Encore supports *Miracast*
To use Miracase both devices needs to support this technology.
Then you can connect to external display very easy:
Tab Settings -> Change PC settings -> PC and devices -> Devices
Here you have to Add a device and you tablet will start searching for a Miracast devices
After the connection has been established, the name of the Miracast device will appear under Projectors
Did you test the video output connecting the table to the TV with an micro-HDMI cable?

PKCS#11 support for x64 Windows

Hi All,
I'm trying to discover the truth (aren't we all?) Can anyone confirm what the current (and future) support for PKCS#11 for x64 Windows system is? Looking around, it appears I might be out of luck, but I'm hoping more of you might have discovered stuff I haven't?
I understand that there ARE definately providers for other platforms (which kinda defeats the platform independancy of Java doesn't it?) but I
'm not running other platforms (well apart from x86 Windows which is fine).

I have the same problem. The problem with the AMD 64 bit Windows downloads (both JRE and JDK) is that the file j2pkcs11.dll is missing from the build. It is present in other releases but not this one. Does anyone know where this file can be obtained?

While other devices having same hardware supports 64Bit then why shouldn't Encore too?

... I found an Win10 Intel platform driver v1.14 on the Lenovo website for the Thinkpad 10 tablet. Doesn't look as a dedicated Win 10 driver to me as it was already released as an WIn 8.1 driver before. This works pretty nice with the Encore as the hardware components are very similar. I removed the audio and GFX section out of the config file before starting the setup procedure as I do not want to overwrite the Dolby audio driver from Toshiba and the already installed Win10 graphics driver I found on the downloadcenter.intel.com website. Everything works nice and without any problems. Nevertheless, I wouldn't recomment this approach for the standard users out there. You need to know what you ar doing with this driver-mixture I'm pretty sure that Toshiba will release an updated platform driver pretty soon - but I don't expect significant improvements to my current configuration ... Photoshop does not have touch support. however some touch devices drivers have features the can be set to Photoshop Functions. For example
Tablets that have drivers that use Wintab API for pen support can be used with Photoshop Brush Pen support. Tablets that use Microsoft Ink API for pen support can not be used with Photoshop for Adobe does not have support for Microsoft INK API for Adobe states the INK API lack features used by Photoshop Brush engine.

Get an Error window, The source folder does not contain any supported camera raw files

I am using CS2 and it would not open up my latest RAW files, I was getting a warning Could not complete your request because it is not the right kinds of document. So, I checked the Camera Raw Plug-in and it says Version 3.7. I see that my camera an Olympus E-20 is supported. But it is not opening the Raw files, the day before I took jpeg and they have opened. I will not trash my Adobe Photoshop CS2 because it was a royal pain to install and I don't know where the CD is.
I installed the latest DNG Converter and when I try to open up the folder which has all the RAW images that didn't open in Adobe, I still get an Error window that says, "The source folder does not contain any supported camera raw files." Why? It says it supports my Olympus E-20. I actually have the E-20n, I don't think that is the problem. My RAW icons usually show up as small image thumbnails and this time they are gray icons only with the incorrect date under the icon. Is there another product I can use without spending money? These images I took in RAW were special and I don't want to lose them. Please help!

Hello, I was using only CS2 with my Olympus E-20n for 5 years, no problem. It just started acting up in RAW this year. I downloaded Picasa that same day and now it seems to be opening up all of my RAW files that didn't open the other day. So, I think Picasa installed a new plug-in adaption to CS2 because now all my RAW icons have a new logo on them, the same one that's in Picasa. Strange, but it works now and I am not complaining anymore. I love CS2 and the many ways I can adjust RAW files, so I am using it, Picasa is a sideline now that I can take a look at many thumbnails and it organized all my photo files by the year and folders. Amazing free software. I have probably 60,000 images in my computer and an external hard drive and Picasa picked them all up and made a library, cool.

Does Oracle 10g R2 support installation on Windows 2003 Domain Controller? I remember that 10g R1 had issues with the DC? Is it still the case. Does it work now?

We have Oracle 10g R2 running on a Windows 2003 domain controller. It was not a domain controller when Oracle was installed. The domain was created after installation. (I don't recommend that procedure. I spent a long day fixing the installation after they configured the domain.) If Oracle is unhappy with being on a domain controller, it has not shown it yet.

Could you tell me where to download the JCE policy files from? Do they need to match the same JDK version (1.4.2)?
The Install Guide for SAP NetWeaver 7.0 SR3 Java on Windows MS SQL Server says to download the JCE policy files for your platform (Windows x64) from http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads. But I could only find jce_policy-6.zip. Is that the right JCE policy files for Windows 2003 x64 64bit platform for SUN JSE 1.4.2 64bit?

With luck, Windows 8 can find a generic, basic driver for your machine to print. Otherwise it's time to buy a new printer.

Not using OS 7, 8 or 9. Some later Macs running versions of OS X can run Windows applications using 3rd party emulation software. Most current Macs allow the instation of Windows.
