  • Does Equium M70 support 4GB or 8GB SDHC card

    Could anyone help please?
My laptop reads standard sd cards fine (1gb),
However i want to buy a 4gb or 8gb SDHC card to transfer pictures from my camera onto my laptop and then onto my ipod.
Cant find any info in the manual
    Any replies really appreciated
    Thanks, Mark

    Hi!
The Equium M70 supports only SD cards up to 1GB so SDHC cards will not work.
You can find this information in the user manual. I have checked it and so I know this.
If you dont have the user manual you can download it on the Toshiba website.

  • Does the iMac support a USB-5.1 sound card?

I have a new Intel iMac connected though USB to a "Sound Blaster Live 24 bit" sound card connected via mini-jacks to a logitech 5400, but I am not getting 5.1.
In the Audio MIDI pref pane, I can only select "multichannel," not "5.1".
Is there any way to fix this? If not, I need an optical to mini jack... any idea if there is such a thing?
    Matthew

    Hi Matthew,
I don't know about the SBlive 24bit device.
However, the Intel iMac's all have built in 5.1 optical output from the normal headphone jack (it is optical and electrical). There exist TOSLink to 3.5mm optical cables, and some can even be converted to either.
There are also some optical to coax SPDIF converters available if your speakers only take SPDIF coax and not SPDIF optical.

  • Battery from Equium L20 does not charge

I have a Equium L20 which battery will not charge. The Windows Powermanagment says it is charging but the percentage never increases, I have tried different batteries with the same symptom as result.
The battery LED is glowing orange as if its charging but not matter how long I leave it on the charge, percentage does not change. Windows detects the battery as fine with all the correct info.. I have tried to remove the battery but to no avail. .
Is this a software or a hardware issue?

I have the same problem as you and have just posted a question on the forum about it.
    Here is my story:
    I have a TOSHIBA L20-197 laptop.
The battery will not accept any charge.
The computer says that the battery status is: 'CHARGING 0%' but it isn't charging at all so I have to run the computer off the mains.
The battery light, which should show ORANGE, and then GREEN when the battery if fully charged, is showing GREEN all the time.
The power lead got broken at the end where it goes into the computer and it's possible that I may have caused a short while fixing it.
Maybe there is a fuse somewhere that I've managed to blow?
I have now purchased a new battery and it still won't work so it's not the battery that is at fault.
    HELP!!!!!!!!!

  • Equium L20-197 does not work anymore

May I call on you all for a bit of help on this one.
I have been given an Equium L20-197 which does not work anymore. Not having the chance to ever see it running I'm not sure on a couple of things.
It's totally dead, with the power supply connected there is no sign of life, no power light, nothing.
I know there are many things it could be.
Question is should it power up while there is no battery connected, just the power supply plugged in?
If it will then at least I can move past a battery problem, yes the battery may still be faulty but it would mean that the motherboard is probably us. If it must have a battery fitted, even a flat one then it could be the battery.
Just trying to work through it step by step.
    Any help much appreciated.

    Hi mate,
hehe, looks like a technician is here. :) Its a really good idea to making it step by step because every good techie acts like you. So I do, and it helped me many times.
Regarding your question: the battery must not be connected to start the machine, so if the machine wont start up even just with AC connected then you can be sure that a really serious hardware problem is present.
In such case, you can either remove everything (HDD, CDROM,etc) and try it again. You can also exchange the AC-adapter and the RAM. So, if the machine still wont start up, then contact an ASP (Authorized Service Partner) and ask for a hardware checkup/repair. That would be the last resort.
Heres a link to find the nearest ASP in your country:

  • USB phone distortion with Equium L20-198

    Hi
When I use a US Robotics 9600 USB phone on this machine, the voice picked up by the microphone is very distorted (crackly and with interference). Sound heard from the other person is fine. The phone works fine on my other laptop and PC, and this is the second phone unit that does this. Installation according to USR instructions and identical to other PCs, and using Skype. Have tried all 3 usb ports and adjusted sound settings but no improvement.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks
    Richard

    Hi Pedro
Thanks for the reply. I have checked out US Robotics and they are unable to give any help. I am wondering if the USB properties for my L20 are different from those on my other PCs. So, I am really looking for general advise on USB problems rather than specific advice for the phone. I have tried the following troubleshooting since my last mail with interesting results.
    1. Changing all the audio settings I can find makes no difference
    2. I have tried to update the drivers for the USB controllers and hubs and the Intel chip, and received the message that no more recent ones could be found
    3. If I connect the phone through a USB 1.0 hub without external power I get a message saying there is insufficient power and the phone does not work at all (phone is rated at 190mA on its label). If I connect it through this hub with external power, the original problem remains.
    4. If I connect the phone through a powered USB 2.0 hub it works fine!!
When I connect the phone direct to the laptop I get a message that the hi speed device is connected to a lo speed USB port and would work better in a high speed one. However, the ports on the L20-198 are described as USB 2 in the product details. I also get this message on my other PCs, but the phone works fine on them. When the phone is connected to the L20 through the USB 2.0 hub the message does not appear.
I am not sure if this information is any help for you to suggest how I might try to improve USB performance or functioning to allow the phone to work better.
    Thanks
    Richard

  • Does anyone know yet if the new iPad will support a USB microphone plugged into Garageband via iPad's USB Camera Adapter?

    Hi,
I've ordered a new iPad 64Gb which will arrive early April. My hobby is making music, so does anyone know yet if the new iPad (3rd generation) will support a USB microphone plugged into Garageband via iPad's USB Camera Adapter? I am hoping to use such a portable setup to record live performances of voice & acoustic instrument.
    Thank you,
    John.

When in doubt, try it out. I bought the Apple camera connection kit & used it to connect my Blue Snowball usb mic to my new iPad 3rd generation. It works just fine. I made some test recordings in GarageBand on my iPad 3 using my Snowball mic. They sound great.

  • Does Garageband support 2 usb mic

    Hi all
I am planning to records my podcast via Garageband.  I have a question, does Garageband support 2 USB microphone at this same time ?  Please help
    Regards
    PL

I am using two Audio Technica AT2020 USB microphones as an aggregate device and it works great in Garageband 6.0.4 on a MacBook Air. I would a just a few notes.
First, you may have issues with your USB ports supplying enough power for two microphones. I am using a powered USB hub and this works well.
Second, I see some issues if I shut down the computer and restart it. I may be doing something wrong, but ended up having to delete the aggregate device and create a new one for it to work properly. This is pretty easy and I have just taken to doing this each time rather than screwing around after starting GarageBand. Your mileage may vary.
Third, I am not able to control the volume on the two microphones in GarageBand - the slider is greyed out. In order to adjust volume, open the aggregate device in the Audio MIDI application and you can adjust the sliders there - this will work while GarageBand is running too. They defaul to a very low level for me and I find that this is needed to get a "hotter" signal in Garageband.
I went this route because I already owned one AT2020 USB. If I was starting over again from scratch I might have just gotten a USB interface/mixer and used regular microphones. Would probably make things easier and wouldn't cost much (if any) more since the AT2020 USB is $50 more expensive than the analog version.
FWIW, I have been really impressed with the quality of the AT2020 USB for recording acoustic guitar and voice.

    Hi @misterg63,
I am sorry, but to get your issue more exposure I would suggest posting it in the commercial forums since this is a commercial product. You can do this at http://h30499.www3.hp.com/hpeb/

  • Equium L20 dead after BIOS flash

I recently tried to update the BIOS on my Equium L20 (Model PSL2Ze). I downloaded the latest BIOS and ran the windows bios updater which went ok and rebooted the laptop and that's as far as it went.
Now I don't even get the BIOS boot screen, in fact the screen doesn't even illuminate when you press the power button.
The Green light comes on as does the cooling fan which stays on and the HDD spins breifly but other than that, nothing. I thought it would be fixable by buring a CD with the BIOS on but the instruction page for doing this states the the zip file you download will extract into 3 folders "Docs", "3.5 Disk" and "CD" but the file I download just extracts to one folder and contains the windows version and no folders or Docs section.
Is this an oversight, should I be looking elsewhere?
    bq. {color:#333399}Option 2: Update with CD-ROM \\ {color} \\ {color:#333399}1. Extract the zip file containing the BIOS upgrade to a temporary folder. \\ 2. In the temporary folder three sub folders will be generated. "docs", "Update - 3,5' Disk", "Update - CD-R or CD-RW" \\ 3. How to make a bootable CD-ROM please read the *.pdf file in the "docs" folder. \\ 4. Ensure the Notebook is connected to the mains. \\ 5. Turn the Notebook off. \\ 6. Place the CD-ROM containing the BIOS upgrade in the optical disk drive. \\ 7. Turn the Notebook on with the F12 key. \\ 8. The BIOS boot menu appears. Select CD/DVD or the CD-ROM symbol using the arrow keys. Press "Enter". \\ 9. The Notebook will boot from the BIOS upgrade CD-ROM. \\ 10. A boot menu appears. Select the point for update the BIOS by using the arrow keys. Press "Enter". \\ 11. The BIOS update process starts. Do not switch off the notebook during update. \\ 12. If the update process is finished follow the instruction on the screen.{color}
So basically I'm stumped. I put a blank CD into the drive and powered on the laptop and it spins and tries to read it so I'm confident a CD flash will work but I don't know how to create the flash CD rom.
Can anybody offer me some guidance please?

    UPDATE:
Well I've been on the phone to Toshiba this morning who inform me I'll need a new system board which is 112 ex vat and then another 100+ for fitting. I've not looked into the possibility of fitting one myself yet, does anybody know if this is an easy job and are any instructions for doing this?
Had I bought my laptop from John Lewis it would have a 2 year warranty but it wasn't so is now out of warranty.
It annoys me that my laptop has now been rendered by a firmware update provided by the manufacturer, downloaded correctly, instructions followed correctly and I'm left looking at spending 220+ to repair the laptop which isn't worth it, so now I have to buy a new one?
I have a USB HDD adapter so have copied the 40GB contents to my desktop so no data is "lost", I might give ebay a quick look to see if there are any identical models (L20-198) with broken screens going cheap that I may be able to use as salvage.

  • Equium L20-197 - WIreless Connection issues

A have an old Toshiba Equium L20-197 laptop running windows XP home edition.
It contains an Atheros AR5005G Wireless Network Adaptor.
The problem I have is that it will connect to my BT home hub (and says that the connection is excellent), but will not connect to any website.
I have added a USB 802.11g wireless adapter to see if I can get a connection through that, and it works fine (although interestingly only using the Ralink Wireless Utility which comes with it - when I tried it with Windows Wireless Zero Configuration I had the same problem as before - no internet connection - switched back to the Ralink WIreless Utility and it works fien again).
The internal wireless adaptor used to work fine, but now does not - any suggestions welcome.
    Many Thanks
    Rob
PS I have gone to the device manager and checked for driver updates, but it tells me that it can't find anything better than the driver version being used!

    Hi
Maybe there are some conflicts between internal WLan card and the new external USB 802.11g wireless adapter.
Otherwise you should check the configuration of Atheros AR5005G Wireless Network Adaptor.
In device manager -> WLan card -> properties -> Advanced tab you should change the Wlan standard 802.11 (A B G) to the same which is used by Router.
If the router uses 802.11 G then change this in Wlan settings too!
Check also the channel. I set the channel on my router and WLan card to 11.
You could also try to connect to router without using any WLan encryption. Of course this should be done only for testing.
Las but not least update the WLan driver:

  • Need to update display driver for Equium L20

    Hi All,
Just upgraded to Windows 7 on my Equium L20, but i need to update my video card driver, but cant find where to do it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Ryan

    Hi
Why you install Windows 7 on Equium L20? In my opinion this pretty old notebook doesnt support new Windows 7
If your notebook has an Intel graphic card, you could try the Windows 7 driver from Intel directly.

  • Does AirPort Extreme support external drives with Advanced Format (4K) ?

    Hi!
I have an AirPort Extreme from 2008 and now i want to use a Raid 1 USB HDD for Time Machine.
The new disks often has the new "Advanced Format" (4K blocks).
Does this APE support such 4k drives?
At the moment i don't have any experience with this new format,
for this reason i don't know if the APE or the hdd case has to support this format.
    regards
    Sebastian

    Sebastian Brandner wrote:
    1) I'm using a simple USB Disk, connected to my APE, as Time Machine Backup Volume. This works quite well for about a year.
Yes, for a few folks it does appear to work for a number of days, weeks, or months. But sooner or later, the backups turn up corrupted, often beyond repair. It happens to me about eery 3 months, which seems fairly typical. That's likely why Apple doesn't support it, and nobody should depend on it.
    2) The RAID Case shows only a single disk to the connected device, raid 1 handling ist internal and so it's again just a simple usb disk.
Correct. I didn't say otherwise. In a supported location, Time Machine will back up to a hardware RAID set (but not a software one).
    3) The link with the supported disks doesn't handle the new disk format 4k. :-/ Maybe the support entry is too old.
Note that it's a 2008 Airport Extreme; that predates the support article by at least a couple of years.
But by all means, call AppleCare if you don't believe the support article.
