Does "Erase All Content and Settings" remove or retain the current IOS version on the device

I want to give my iPhone 3GS w/IOS 6 to a family member.  When I "Erase All Content and Settings", will it remove or retain the current IOS version on the device?

The version that is installed will remain.

  • Does erase all content and settings remove icloud?

    Hi everyone
Apologies if this is a stupid question!
I sold my iphone 5 today and used the erase all content and settings function to wipe the phone. My icloud account was turned off on the phone before this. I just want to make sure i have completely broken the link between my icloud and my old phone. I have logged into my icloud and my old phone is not under the list of devices or in find my iphone. The phone is also not linked to my support profile so does this mean i have completely de registered it?
    Many thanks in advance

Yes.  Read here: What to do before selling or giving away your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.

Ipod touch 4th gen needed a new screen and sleep/wake switch.  So, I replace them.  I was able to get to settings and do "erase all content and settings".  I am not able to totally shut this device off as it keeps restarting after a few seconds.  I have used itunes to restore and also recover.  Device will actually shut off and stay shut off if I leave it connected to the computer.  The moment I unplug (3 seconds) the apple logo appears, it boots, unlock screen appears, I can unlock and operate normally, unplugged or not.  Just cant get it to completely shut down unplugged.  Any thoughts?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
      - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem. Maybe you installed a bad component or damaged something during the repair/replacement.
Apple will not help since you worked on the iPod yourself.

  • I forgot my restrictions passcode for my ipad. under settings i went to "erase all content and settings" but it needs the passcode. how do i restart my ipad so it can go back to normal? i dont care about losing everything on it

Try and force the iPad Recovery Mode
    1. Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
    2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
3.While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
    4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears, release the Home button. iTunes should alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then click Restore to restore the device.
Note: Data will be lost. You may have to repeat the above many times.

  • Does Erase all contents and settings in 2.0.2 wipe the firmware updates?

I am about to sell my ipod touch on ebay and to ensure that all my data is cleared I have used the erase all contents and settings option that 2.0.2 introduced. The question is does this return the touch back to the factory firmware (1.4 I think), unable to check without starting to sync new device to itunes again.

I believe that option has been available since earlier firmware versions. My understanding is that it does not affect the software/firmware on the iPod. From what I've been told, once the iPod is updated to 2.x.x it is not possible to go backward to a 1.x.x version. If anyone's been able to do this successfully, please correct me. You should be able to hold 'Shift' when clicking Restore in iTunes, so you might try that to see if 1.1.4 is an option to restore the iPod to.

  • Will 'Erase All Content and Settings' remove Apple ID from my iPad 2?

    Hi all.
I've read that Erase All brings the iPad back to how it was when it left the shop. But I need to comfirm something 'cos here's the situation:
    1. I just sold my mum's iPad to a third party shop. All done, or so I thought.
    2. I get a text asking for my Apple password so they can format the iPad.
    3. I reply that it's not needed for Reset All/Erase All. (NOTE: No Passcode was set on iPad)
    4. I get a text today saying: "But we need to change the app store. Otherwise if any other person buy it they cannot create new account. Maybe you can come and type it. After that we can reset in front of you."
Does the shop really need my password? I was under the impression that Erase All would do a factory reset and clear my Apple ID from the IPad too. Then the next person just sets up their own ID.
By the way, this is not a shop I really trust which is why I'm being so cautious. Also, I don't fancy going all the way there again.
Thanks so much in advance and sorry for the long ramble
    Andrew

  • Does "Erase All Content and Settings" also remove associated device with an apple ID?

I have to give away an iPhone.
When I follow the steps in http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5661, does it also mean that the association to the apple ID (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4627) goes away? I want it to.

    You're welcome.

  • Does "Erase All Content and Settings" delete the carrier?

I'd really like to start my phone over but I don't want to have to have to go to my dad after resetting it begging for him to call the carrier company and restart it.

No, it will not delete the carrier information.

  • HT201274 I have an iPod Touch (4th Generation) and I recently tried to "Erase all Content and Settings" on it. The process is taking hours and I'm afraid I've meased up royally with the iPod. What to do?

My iPod Touch has taken over 2 hours of time worth resetting. I'm afraid I've messed up as its not coming back to the original homescreen. What do I do?

You will not get a Home screen. You will get a screen that starts the activation.
If you are not getting that, connect the iPod to your computer and restore via iTunes. To allow iTunes to see the iPod and restore the iPod you may have to:
    - Reset the iPod
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Place the iPod in Recovery Mode
    - Place the iPod in DFU mode

  • HT201274 My iPad is currently on OS version 7.1.2 and has not been upgraded to 8 yet.  If I do an "Erase All Content and Settings" will iTune force an upgrade to 8?  I would like to keep the device at 7.1.2.

My iPad is currently on OS version 7.1.2 and has not been upgraded to 8 yet.  If I do an "Erase All Content and Settings" on the device will the device be forced to upgrade to 8 ?  I would like to keep the device at 7.1.2.

To Perform the Erase All Content and Settings directly on the iPad it does not need to be connected to a computer.
In fact yes, is better if its not connected to one, but simply connected to its charger, and have it plugged in. Erase All content and settings, will not update the iOS.
If you restore the iPad using iTunes on your computer with the iPad connected, then it will update to iOS 8. Because the restore will place the newest available iOS version supported by the Phone on it.
Basically disconnect the iPhone, plug it in to its charger, and the charger to the wall, and then on the iPad go to Settings->General->Reset->Erase all Content and Settings.  This will wipe clean the iPhone but will do nothing to the underlying iOS installation.
Once everything is removed, you can plug it into iTunes and sync your content back.  Do not attempt to restore from backup while connected to iTunes, as it will update the iOS version in the process. Simply sync and you should have no issues.

  • Is Erase All Content and Settings enough protection?

I am looking to sell my children's Ipod Touch 4th Generation, and wanted to submit question if the Erase All Content and Settings command really is maximum protection (other than destruction of device) for personal data/etc. that was stored on device.  I believe this Ipod Touch is suppossed to have higher encryption level, and after doing this it did reset the ipod touch to normal startup/configuration process.  My obvious concern is that somone would be able to get device and then hack it fo find out my personal information and that of my children.  Thanks in advance!

It is very very very very very very hard to get data from an iPod if it has been erased,. I would not be concernedd unless there are state secrets or similar super sensitive data on the iPod

  • Difference between "restore" and "erase all content and settings"?

    Hello,
I was wondering what is the difference between "Restore" on itunes and "Erase all content and settings" on iphone?
Is it the same and if yes why does it take longer to "Erase all content and settings" on iphone?

The restore only deletes all the data and reinstalls the iPhone Operating System, but someone can still carve out deleted information if they know what they are doing. The erase all content and settings will delete and overwrite everything on the iPhone so it is impossible to even extract any data from the iPhone.
Personally I've only used the erase all content and settings when I've had to return my iPhone to Apple for technical difficulties or when I've sold an iPhone to someone else. There is no reason to do this method if you are simply reinstalling the Operating System for yourself.
