Does FaceTime use my data from my data plan while I'm connected to 3G?

I like to FaceTime a lot and I have limited data due to my data plan. When I'm connected to 3G does it use my data? Thanks.

Yes, FaceTime will need to use data, either from your 3G or WiFi source.

If so, what would be a good plan to use :200MB, 2 GB, or 2GB + Tethering?
Or Does it use up minutes?

    Facetime uses wi-fi.
"People have been dreaming about video calling for decades. iPhone 4 makes it a reality. With just a tap, you can wave hello to your kids, share a smile from across the globe, or watch your best friend laugh at your stories — iPhone 4 to iPhone 4 or to the new iPod touch over Wi-Fi."

  • Just downloaded the 7.1 IOS update and I'm able to stream my music from the cloud. Does this use up data and how can I get it to stop pausing for periods of time?

Just downloaded the 7.1.1 IOS update and I'm able to stream my music from the cloud. I'm wondering how I can stream more than just my purchased music? And does this use up data? Also, how can I get playback to stop pausing for periods of time? It is a wifi thing??

If streaming music when connected to your carrier's cellular network, it uses cellular data.
Only the music you purchased from the iTunes Store can be streamed unless you have purchased iTunes Match.
If there is a slow down at the server where the music is stored or high traffic, steaming can be paused. You can also download a song from the iTunes Store cloud to your iPhone so it doesn't need to be steamed.

does facetime use minutes and/or data?

The call is initiated via the cell network but then switches to Wi-Fi once facetime connects.

Does LTE use more data usage than 4G?

    The question makes no sense.
LTE and 4G are types of connections. They do not use Data, they allow your apps and services on the iPhone or iPad to use the Data access.
In most cases 4G is slightly slower than LTE.

  • Can my Macbook Pro use a data plan?

I would like my MacBook Pro (2012) to be able to use the same wireless data stream as do my iPad and iPhone, so if I take it out of the house, I can access internet and such just like the iPad does.  How do I go about doing this?  What do I need?  Thank you...

The MacBook Pro can only be connected to Internet by Wi-Fi and Ethernet. However, if you want to use a data plan, you can order a USB modem from your carrier to connect your MacBook Pro to Internet when you don't have any Wi-Fi network. Make sure the modem you get is compatible with OS X

Can I still use the phone in Boston when I move there?
Only on a supported GSM carrier.
Will there be networks I cant use?
    Yes. CDMA networks.
As I understand it the 4S supports GSM and CDMA networks worldwide.
No, you've misunderstood. The GSM iPhone you can buy in Ireland supports GSM networks only i.e. AT&T

Thanks for the reply.  I already have this info, but have spent several hours trying to cross reference with the product descriptions and the different carriers websites.  I was hoping there was an easier way.

  • IMessage using my data plan

I received a text message from AT&T this morning saying that I had used 65% of my data plan already (it is the second week of February). I don't use the internet or internet using apps very often, so I was very confused when this happened. I called apple and they proceeded to tell me that when I'm not in a wifi area, my iMessage will use my data plan. If this application comes with the iphone 4s , then why isn't there a way to disable it when on the 3g network only? I want to be able to use the iMessage application, but cannot afford the unlimited data plan in order to do so. This is ridiculous, so if anyone else is having this problem, please write back. Also, if anyone has figured out how to disable iMessage just in 3g areas (for the 4s), please let me know.

Either don't use iMessage while on 3G or turn 3G off ENTIRELY under Settings > General > Network > Cellular Data OFF.

  • Does facetime use the email address or the phone number to make a call

Does facetime use the email address or the phone number to place a call

Depends on what the receiver has set up on his or her device.
Also depends on the device. iPhone uses the number, iPad, iPod touch uses Email. But can be set up for phone number too if the person has an iPhone.
    Hope this helps.

  • Where does airdrop use contact details from?

Where does airdrop use contact details from?

When you attempt to turn on AirDrop from your iPhone, one of the options is "Contacts Only".  I think your question is that when this appears, which device supplies the contact details?
The answer is that your iPhone (the device you are turning AirDrop on from) supplies the contact details.

  • If i have an ipad 3 with wifi feature only, can I add or use the data plan in another country?, if i have an ipad 3 with wifi feature only, can I add or use the data plan in another country?

I have an ipad 3 with wifi feature only, can I use the data plan 3G in another country??

No. You have no place for a sim card in the WiFi only iPad. You MAY be able to purchase a personal MIFI hotspot that will work with a data plan in another country. I have one here in the U.S. that I bought through Verizon, but I assume it will only work on the Verizon network here with my Verizon Data Plan. So you would need a data plan in the country in which you want to use the iPad if this option is available for you.

Wanted to know if using FaceTime on a device does it count against the data share plan or uses unlimited minutes?  If it uses data how do we know how much data is used per minute?  I am using Verizon's broadband fusion and want to manage my data appropriately but need to know how to figure FaceTime use age.
