Does FaceTime works with an iMac 2006 ? (intel 2Ghz Core 2 Duo with 3GB ram ?

I have an IMac 2Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo with 2GB ram.  I have an Apple ID that is working properly for many years.  When I want to activate FaceTime, it gives me an error of ID.  I have checked my ID in iTune and it is fine.  What should I do ?
My OS is Lion 10.7.1.

It is sometimes very peculiar to observe the side effects of some systems settings, but this would be an odd 'fix' if it were to work. Aside from anything else, the energy saver settings impact the system only when it's running since they are integral to MacOS. It's difficult to imagine how these could affect the cold-booting of the machine - though it isn't impossible of course, in as far as changing the energy saving settings might impact on parameter RAM.
However, even if it were to actually resolve this, you would need to switch back to the prior settings to make sure it remained 'fixed', since you hardly want a Mac that limits your choice of any settings that should be available to you.
And while I think, it may actually be worth resetting PRAM as follows:
-Shut down the computer.
-Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in the next step but one.
-Turn on the computer.
-Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
-Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
-Release the keys.

  • I have an iMac 5.1 ,2ghz core 2duo  with 1gb 667 MHz ddr2 SS ram running osx 10.6.8. How much tota ram can I install and will it be enough to run lion and/or mountain lion?

I have a iMac 5.1 running osx 10.6.8 , core 2duo, and 1ghz 667mhz DDR sdram. How much ram can be added and will it run lion/mountain lion? Thanks.

As an additional thought: I had this same model iMac and although you can install 4 GB RAM, it will only address just over 3 GB. Since Lion is somewhat of a memory hog, you really will not be very happy with the performance using anything less than 4 GB - and even 4 GB is a bit of a minimum; fine for basic needs, but any photo or video editing will require more than that.

  • Will iMac 2006 Intel Core 2 Duo, 5,1 - work with Mountain Lion?

That's all... will the iMac 2006 Intel Core 2 Duo, 5,1 model, run Mountain Lion?

No, you need a Mid 2007 iMac 7,1 or newer to run Mountain Lion.

  • Microsoft silverlight plugin does not work in my iMac. Any suggestion on how to make it work?

I occasionally attend webinars and in order to view and listen the site I use requires silverlight plugin. I used it in the past without any issues. Now even after I updated it yo the latest version it does not work. Is there a known issue of incompatibility with OSX mavericks? Does anyone have an idea on what the problem could be? I have an intel iMac and I use Safari. Thank you.

Simple, the best option is to redownload and install the latest version. This will overwrite the old files and fix the possible corrupt ones. If you are experiencing any problems on certain sites follow this next step:
Goto: Safari > Preferences > Extensions  and make sure that extensions are enabled and that particular extension (silverlight) is enabled.
Let me know how these ideas work out for you.
    Hope this helped.

  • After upgrading to Lion Image Capture does not work, even though it is intel software.  Gives error 9931.  What gives?

After upgrading to Lion, Image Capture does not work, even though it is intel software.  Gives error 9931.  What gives?

Ouch, if it is indeed damaged, then sadly you need to restore the whole danged huge OS!
Didn't used to be this way before Lion/10.7.
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.
If that doesn't help Reinstall the OS.

  • 21.5" 2.4 ghz Intel core duo with 4 GB memory iMac w/ OS X 10.5.8

my 2008 21.5" 2.4 ghz Intel core duo with 4 GB memory iMac is running OS X 10.5.8 and has recently started over heating and locking up .... even with applications that it has never had problems with before .... I don't think it's capable of being upgraded any further, right? can I upgrade the graphics card or is that even worth it?

Your tems are fine, nothing at all to worry about. One thing you can do is shut down the computer, remove the RAM plate cover on the bottom and vacuum out the air intake. As for the spinning beach balls that isn't a freeze it means a process is busy. You can run Activity Monitor (Applications - Utilities - Activity Monitor) and when you begin getting SBBOD look in AM and see if you see any processes using a large %CPU and also click the System Memory tab and look to see how much FREE RAM is available at that point in time. As a general rule of thumb OS X likes to have 500MB or more of FREE RAM, if you see it's at or below 500MB then a RAM upgrade is needed or you need to reduce the amount of open windows. The graphic will look similar to:
Also I'd strongly recommend carefully reading the XLab's Spinning Beach Ball of Death article. It's an excellent guide on how to trouble shoot spinning beach ball issues.

    Does facetime work w/ Ichat?

    Hi,
    No.
Face Time and iChat are two different apps.
They are similar in some respects but cannot be linked.

  • My 2011 intel dual core duo iMac apparently has "Airport" ans apparently it is "on" although the icon (upper right) is gray. I'm not sure what "airport" is

My 2011 intel dual core duo iMac apparently has "Airport" ans apparently it is "on" although the icon (upper right) is gray. When I click on the <gray> airport icon it says it's "on" and the option is to turn it off.
I'm not sure what "airport" is, and I have no idea what a router is supposed to accomplish. I got a "smartphone" (not an iPhone, an android) and at a "Smartphone class" at the senior center I was told I need a router.

    Oly wrote:
OK, so, in installing a router could I attach the router to my Verizon DSL modem and have the iMac get it's internet from the router by wi-fi?
This way I could place the router 1/2 way between the only two places in my home where wifi devices (wife's tablet, my iMac) are.
    Yes, exactly.
For the router I suggest you consider one of the three Apple AirPort Base Stations, not only because it will be easier to get help with using them on this website, but they are generally regarded as the most reliable wireless routers. Technical support directly from Apple is free for the first 90 days.
Slightly cheaper alternatives exist. I have tried other manufacturer's wireless routers, and I don't recommend them.

  • Imac intel 2 core duo running at 117 Fº. Is this healthy?

my imac intel 2 core duo running at 117 Fº. Is this healthy? The fan speeds are ODD: 998 CPU: 1198 HDD: 1199.

What you need to understand is that your processor has two different temperatures. The temperature that escapes when it leaves the processor dye is called the t case. The temperature for each core is called the tcore. If your processor temp were to be a problem one or two things can happen. The system will shut down immediately to protect itself. For quad core temperatures for example, it will shut itself down at some point at 75-80 degrees Celcius. Operating temperature of about 40-60 C when the system is fully stressed is a target temperature.

  • Will a MacBook (2GHz Core Duo, Intel, late '06) benefit from 64bit 10.6?

    Hi there,
I have a MacBook (late '06, 2GHz Core Duo Intel processor) that is under Tiger (10.4.11) ... I use a 120 Gb, portable GDrive on Firewire 400 cabling as a backup and a bootable system (10.4.11) to the MacBook.
I have been pondering whether the 64 Bit capabilities of Snow Leapord (10.6.x) would be noticeable on my aged but working fine MB. Would I see differences in a new iLife, which I understand is written to 64 bit Intel chips. Or maybe better yet, does my 2GHz Core Duo Intel processor support 64 bit? This is no real emergency, but rather a query to see if someone else has preceded me or had similar notions already executed.
BTW, I have two contingencies that are as follows:
    1. My mother has an iMac G5/20"-LCD under 10.4.11 and I will partition my HD to preserve that Os (10.4.11) to be exactly hers (she only uses Mail.app and rarely Safari on the iMac G5). I want to be able to run diagnostics, via Firewire 400 on her machine in case something fouls up.
    2. On the MB, as a means of weaning myself from buying various SW packages that I wound up never using (or using 3x and then never again), I have managed to keep all the SW thereon free or donationware: I run NeoOffice Suite, iPhoto, iTunes, Firefox, and very little else besides the utilities: CacheOutX, YASU, Carbon Copy Cloner, and Apple's Disk Utility. SOme of the Apps and Utilities are 10.6 ready (not sure whether they run in an emulation mode or at full 64 bit) and I imagine most other would follow as soon as the demand got higher.
    Thanks in advance,
    Dr Sax

    HI Again,
I've answered my own non-question ... I read the Wiki on Snow Leapord and found that the Intel Core Duo DOES NOT support 64 bit but the Core 2 Duo does.
Since I am unwilling to buy a new machine just for the fabled 64 bit, I guess I'll start reading a bit on Os 10.5.x to see if anything there merits a cheapskate like me changing.
    Sorry for the inconvenience ...
    Dr Sax

  • Can I play Blu Ray on MacBookPro 2.4Ghz intel 2 core Duo

Hi, Just wanted to know if my MacBookPro 2.4Ghz intel 2 core Duo can play Blu Ray DVD

    Yes Matt your correct,
If the original poster wants to play commercial BlueRay DVD movies on the Mac there is NO option far as I know.
The reason for this is the very draconian hardwired copy protection schemes employed with BlueRay that Apple didn't go along with, in fact Steve Jobs called BlueRay "a bag of hurt".
BlueRay data DVD's are a entirely different matter of course. Those are available externally.

  • My Mac experience so far...17" iMac 1.83 GHz Core Duo

I bought this iMac the first of December as CompUSA was closing out the last of their older iMacs. It was a great deal at $900 with Apple Care included for 3 years. I upgraded the RAM and am running a second monitor. I also added a 250 GB Iomega USB drive.
All in all its been great so far with a few exceptions.
    1. My mouse gets stuck in right click mode. I have to unplug it and then its back to normal again.
    2. The keyboard space bar sticks about 1 out of every 10 strokes. This is annoying especially with a brand new keyboard.
    3. My CD's and DVD's won't eject. The drive tried to kick them out but due to some sort of resistance it never kicks the disk out. If I press the two layers of the display together...front and back it takes the pressure off and the disks pop out just fine. This seems more like a case that isn't sealed up tight.
    4. I have or had a dead pixel. It was green but when I rebooted it seems gone. Fingers crossed on this one.
I've been holding off on taking it in for repair. I hate the idea that I have to loose it for a week when its mstly brand new.
If anyone has any similar problems or can suggest any fixes for any of the above I'd appreciate it.
17" iMac 1.83 GHz Core Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   see above

Brett - A sticky mouse and keyboard as well as an optical drive that doesn't eject all adds up to more than an open box unit to me. I strongly suspect that you got a demo unit. Doesn't really matter, you did get a pretty good price, especially with a 3 year warranty.
You need to take the computer to a service center or call AppleCare. The keyboard and mouse can be handled via mail easily but I'd strongly suggest taking the computer itself to a service center to be looked at.
