Does FCE HD run on intel imacs?

There are comments on other forums that FCE HD won't run on intel-based Imacs. Any truth, workarounds? I'm considering an Imac, and they come with FCE installed (not sure if HD) as an option, so I can't understand why this problem would arise. The complainers say it needs AGP card that is not present on the imacs.
imac 20" Mac OS X (10.4.3)

FCE-HD runs perfectly fine on Intel based Macs. If you are purchasing a new Mac with FCE-HD pre-installed, you will get FCE-HD version 3.5 which is the correct version.
What you heard about is a minor problem that some people had when they tried to run FCEHD version 3.0 on an Intel Mac. They got the AGP error message but you could always ESC from the error message and FCE would run.
FCEHD version 3.5 is the correct version for the Intel Macs.

  • Does ARD 2.2 run on Intel iMacs?

I'm trying to install ARD 2.2 on a 17" Intel iMac and I'm getting an error after the install when I try to open the application. (The installation process runs fine and it tells me that the software was installed properly).
    http://www.xid-renrag.com/wow_screenshots/ARD%20error.jpg
I tried restarting the computer and still get the same message. Is it because it's an Intel machine that it's not working, or is there something else I can try?
    Thanks.
    G5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Try this:
    - Ensure ARDAgent.app is not running. In most
instances, this just means ensuring that Remote
Desktop isn't enabled in System Preferences ->
    Sharing
    - Navigate to
    /System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ in the
Finder, and Get Info on ARDAgent.app. Check "Open
    using Rosetta".
    Hope this helps.
Awesome! That did it! Thanks a ton Dave.

Thinking of buying the iMac 2.16GHZ 24inch Intel Core Duo Mac or the iMac 2.4GHZ 24inch Intel Core 2 Duo iMac.
I have FCP 4.5 but might be able to buy FCP 5. I will not be gettingn FCP 6 anytime soon. Will either of FCP 4.5 or 5 work on the intel iMacs?

5.1 will for sure, not sure on anything previous to 5.

  • Macromedia Flash MX Professional 2004 not running on Intel iMac

SIGH. This is added to the enormous list of problems I've had with my new Intel iMac.
I'm a pro user and am confused as to why Dreamweaver MX will run but I can't get Flash MX 2004 Professional to run. It starts up, loads fonts and what not, shows a blank timeline for the new document as it should and as soon as the GUI for Flash comes up ka-boom it crashes.
Then I get the general "unexpectedly quit" notification.
Anyone else having this problem? Is Rosetta a synonym for Lucifer?

I'm on a Mac and don't had this problem. But I do watch for
video issues on this site and haven't seen this – I might
have missed a few, but most Flash users are on Windows so I think
it would be common if it were something wrong with Flash in
    general.
Then again, what do I know? Because the more I'm thinking
about it the more I think I might have had this problem. But I
really can't remember. And sorry to say the solution was to not use
the import function to edit my videos.
You also might want to just see if it is the format of the
file you are importing. Perhaps a different source will work
better? I'm just grasping at straws here.
If you have many of these to do and a budget I suggest
getting a third party tool like Squeeze. Otherwise if you have some
third party editor you might want to use that.
    Good luck!

  • FCP 4.1 won't run on intel iMac

    Hi,
I've just recently purchased Final Cut Pro 4.1... yeah I know it's not the most recent version, but I will be upgrading to studio eventually, and have installed it, and when I try and launch FInal Cut Pro, nothing happens.
    Any thoughts.

    it is Michael,
as I tried to explain, v4.1 is not Intel compatible,
you should be using v5.1 and above to take advantage
of your new Mac's processor ... you can try the
Rosetta trick (which attemts to run the application
by using the PowerPC emulator) but as has also been
pointed out. it might not work.
bottom line. if you bought v4.1 specifically for
your new Intel Mac, then you bought the wrong
    version
that said, I'd try the Rosetta trick before I gave up
hope... and worst case scenario is having do the
crossgrade which happens to be a really sweet deal.
Thanks Andy, I understood what you were saying, and I will be crossgrading to 5.1 eventally.
Fortunatey I have an Mac Mini so I can pracitse with that, I had a feeling before buying 4.1 that it woudn't work on the Intel machine, but you can always hope.

  • Can you boot / run an Intel iMac from an external hard drive? Built-in drive is dead.

Hello, Have a six? year old, 2.16 GHz Core 2 Duo iMac that has a dead internal HD. The drive has 16,000 hours on it (per SMART Utility) and no longer shows up on desktop. Disk Utility, Disk Warrior and SMART say it's toast. I'm backed up to Flash drives and Time Machine but need a month before I can get a new computer... Don't want to run this one off TM back-up. Question is, can I add an external drive, use TM to make it my start up drive until then... Thanks, dp

Yes you can, you're going to install OSX on it (from the Snow Leopard disk) but it will work.

  • Does Dreamweaver MX run on Intel Processor?

Hi, on my old iBook, DW MX worked fine. I moved my files to a
Macintosh WorkBook Pro, a laptop with the new Intel processor. Now
Dreamweaver MX crashes when I try to connect to the server. I've
run the only upgrade patch on Adobe's website, can't think of what
else might help besides going to version 8. Any ideas?

DMX predates the MacTel systems by >3 years. I think you'd

    ran.

  • Does battlefield 3 run on an iMac?

so i found out that an imac cannot be turned into a gaming computer but there are some exceptions. I just really want to know will batllefield 3 run on a 21.5 inch imac (early 2011) 4 gb of ram and a ATI Radeon HD 4670? also is there any other way apart from boot camp? its no problem for me to use bootcamp but i just dont like having to switch between windows and mac and i want to save £80 on getting windows 7.
    thanks

I think Boot Camp is the only way you'd have a chance to run it. BF3 is only for PC/Window based systems at this time. They might port it later(they did it with BF2142) but there hasn't been an announcement about it.

  • External drives that can boot up Intel iMac

I have just bought an Intel-based iMac.
My previous computer was an iMac G5 (PowerPC). If I needed to boot up from an external drive, it had to be a Firewire drive.
Does anyone know if the Intel iMac is the same? If something were to happen to that system and I needed to boot up from an external drive, does the external have to be Firewire, or will USB 2.0 work as well?
Incidentally, this Intel iMac has one Firewire 800 port. I read a review (although it could have been from last year) that if you have Firewire 400 peripherals, you won't be able to plug them into the FW 800 port unless you have an adapter. Did I read that right? I would have thought that they're simply backward compatible and work just as a USB 1.1 device would if plugged into a USB 2.0 port (the device would just run at the lower 1.1 speed). So where does one get these adapters (if needed)? Does the Apple Store sell them?

or will USB 2.0 work as well?
    Yes.
    Did I read that right?
Yes. The ports are physically different.
So where does one get these adapters (if needed)?
Click here for an example of what's needed.
Does the Apple Store sell them?
    Yes. Click here.

  • USING FACETIME ON INTEL IMAC

DOES FACETIME WORK ON AN INTEL IMAC?

My wife has it on her MBP to FaceTime me on my iPhone and vice versa. Works well. Does cost $.99 though. I also have it on my MBP (only have to pay once if same apple ID) and we can FaceTime on our laptops. You could iChat too, but you need two screen names. FaceTime seems quicker.

  • DIY installs on intel imacs?

    I ran across this page:
    iMac G5 DIY (Do-It-Yourself) Instructions
which shows some stuff you can do to an iMac without voiding the warranty. Does this also apply to intel imacs?
    24" iMac 2.33GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   15" PowerBook G4, 20" iMac 2.0GHz

    Hello,
    Absolutely not.
Apple canceled that service option, and has moved-on to requiring you to bring your computer in for servicing if you want to do anything other than upgrade the memory on the Intel Macs.
The previous program was a support nightmare for Apple. Constant issues with people not performing the repairs properly, and parts going back and forth and huge delays in receiving parts because there were tons of them going out and coming back and few to offer to new people with problems.
So, it just didn't work very well.
If you don't want to void the warranty on your Intel Mac, don't do anything other than upgrade the memory.
The design is completely different. So, even if you try, you'll find yourself working with a huge mess of parts inside the computer. It's not designed for easy servicing anymore.
    I hope this helps.

I'm thinking about buying a 20inch Intel iMac, but don't know if I can use Macromedia's Studio MX on it okay. I know that Dreamweaver (and presumably Studio) 8 runs okay on it, but I'd rather not have to upgrade just yet.

It would depend on how old your IMac is, how mush memory you have, it it can be upgraded by OWC, etc. I have a 2006 Macbook Pro and would NOT put Mavericks on it or espeacially FCP 10.1.1 on it because the most memory it can have is 4 GB. You need at least 8 GB to work with Final Cut Pro 10.1.1. IMHO.
I would try to find a copy of Final Cut Express perhaps.

  • Intel iMac running boot camp success

I am looking at replacing my HS PC Lab and I am debating if I want to replace the labe with 17" iMac Intel machines and running boot camp on the iMac to get to my windows applications. Is there anybody out there that has purchased the Intel iMacs and run boot camp for windows applcations for the entire school day? If so, what is your success rate? Are you running Windows 2000, Windows XP Pro, or Windows Vista? I have heard of schools doing this for 1 hour a day and are happy with it.

Hi there.... my 5 cent is:
I use OSX for as much as possible.
I use bootcamp with Windows XP for gaming, and get "native" PC speed. With the present version of Bootcamp I have had no issues at all. The iMac just works as a PC (but looks so MUCH better)..
I use Parallels desktop with Windows XP for all other "non gaming" windows applications with only a small impact on speed. All other for me however means only a piece of GPS software for my PocketPC - not available in OSX version....
If you want style and versatility - go for the Mac
