Does FCP7 rely on GPU?

I'm asking because I don't have a dedicated graphics card in my standard imac?
does FCP 7 rely on GPU at all or is it entirely CPU based?
thanks...

  • CS6 does not see my GPU. It did and now not.

Hi CS6 stopped seeing my GPU. I noticed the problem when trying to do one of Deke's 3D tutes on on lynda.com. So I was able to do most things till I tried 3D. In cs5.1 can see it and allows my to activate it. I recently uninstalled CS5.1. I reinstalled it to see if that would help and it runs extremely slow now and often spins the pinwheel at any little thing.
This is what I see now. See how the GPU is greyed out?
I reinstalled CS5.1 to check what up and checked the prerences there and the GPU is availible and defaulted to my previous settings. These are the CS5.1 settings. See how the GPU is not greyed out.
CS5.1 runs even slower than before though. I have ungraded from an old white mac book to a new mac book pro and beefed up the RAM and now have the following specs to work with
If it helps.. I am now also running into an error message that bridge can no read the cashe, too.
Thanks for any help you can lend, Uhane,
(Merideth, Are you still around? Wanted to thanks you again for your help last time)

    Hello and thanks for responding.
    <quote>
CS5 didn't do as much error checking, or make as heavy a usage of the GPU.
CS6 does more error checking (because we found GPUs crashing Photoshop too often), and tries to use the GPU more often.<end quote>
PS6 does not crash perse. It will report as a crash after I have com/Q somethimes, even without open docs but that is another bug. This one has to do with the GPU becoming greyed out in preferences and unavalable after having been available. This problem is intermitent. It seems it is not a problem anyone else is reporting.
    <quote>
If the GPU is allowed for it's basic version and feature set, then there are a couple possibilities: if the GPU returned an error when it shouldn't, or if Photoshop crashed during a call to the GPU driver - then it will be disabled (because now we know it can't be trusted).<endquote>
The GPU greyout is either all in or all out. I can do 3D just fine when it's operable. The screen shots above was for the CS5.1 comparason, showing it enabled and active.
    <quote>
Also, 256Meg of VRAM is too little to use the 3D features in Photoshop CS6.  So the 3D features will be disabled in CS6 even if the GPU is enabled for basic display use.
Was the GPU ever enabled in Photoshop CS6? Does your System Info log show any errors for the GPU? (probably does, otherwise you would have the GPU model and driver version listed in prefs)<endquote>
I have no problem with 3D or the timeline video funtions when the GPU is enabled. No system log errors that I can recognize. Perhaps you could direct me to where and for what to look for there? I have the NVIDIA GeForce 320M which is standard and should be more than adequate.

  • Does Mozilla have a GPU Accelerated Flash Player add-on?

Whenever I try to stream videos in the 720p or 1080p category (HD streaming) I get what I've termed as "frame hang" aka videos that are choppy when it comes to the frames being streamed at even rates. I've heard that a GPU Accelerated Flash Player add-on would solve my problems, and I'm willing to give it a shot. Only, I can't seem to find this add-on among Mozilla. Does a reputable and trustworthy add-on of this type exist?

Unfortunately that extension is no longer available.

  • Quadro2000 does not support ie9 GPU hardware acceleration.

    Hi
I’ve tried many time but my w520‘GPU (quardro2000) seemed does not support Internet Explorer 9 GPU hardware acceleration.
    The test website is here.

Did anybody know how to solve the problem?
    Thanks in advance.

And chrome Firefox supported GPU hardware acceleration, but ie9 didn't.
Well first of all, all three support GPU acceleration on the W520 with the 2000M.  So something else is causing problems. I would suggest reviewing the latest BIOS and video driver versions on support.lenovo.com against your machine and updating where needed.
After that, I would run your BIOS with default settings then retest.  That will be Optimus mode.  I would then change the BIOS Dispplay setting to Discrete with OS auto detect disabled and retest.

  • Adobe After Effects, Premiere and Encoder does not use the GPU (CUDA) ?

Please! Explain me. Why? Adobe After Effects, Premiere and Encoder does not use GPU (CUDA) ?

At the moment i use AE, AP and ME CC 2014 8.2 with the latest updates. I have GTX 970 and AMD 8350. What's my problem?
Which chipset is on your system's motherboard? Which motherboard is your PC equipped with?
If the motherboard is using an AMD 790 or 970 series chipset, the HyperTransport bus will be running at a reduced speed, and thus the CPU performance will be worse than a quad-core Intel i5 CPU without hyperthreading. In many instances, this means that the GPU will be laying idle, waiting for the CPU to catch up.
If on the other hand the motherboard uses an AMD 990FX chipset, then it's likely that there is something else bottlenecking your PC.

  • Does a laptop's GPU matter?

I have a 2009 13 inch MacBook Pro with the 9400M GPU (but with 4GB RAM and a Seagate Momentus XT HDD) and it seems to run a bit slower when connected to the 27 inch display, as in things lag a bit like when opening the Dashboard or entering Time Machine. Is this because the GPU has to work harder to power the display?
Forgetting about other specs, would a laptop with a discrete graphics card, like the recent 15 inch MBP, perform better than one with shared graphics when connected to the display?
    Thanks in advance!

Difficult to imagine GPU itself slowing down whole system, but shared memory like with 9400M could slow down things while regenerating huge display like 27''.

  • Does FCP7 directly imports AVCHD files from sony cam?

Does the new FCP 7.0 directly imports AVCHD files from sony cam?
Does it need any conversion? If yes, how is the conversion time, and does the conversion degrades image quality?
    Thanks in advance.
    Desmond

Which sony camera? there are a lot.
Yes, it needs to convert. AVCHD isn't a format that most editing systems deal with natively. You will be converting it to ProRes. The conversion time is dependent on too many factors to give a precise number. Based on computer used, processors, RAM, how much footage, where it will be stored...all of that. The conversion doesn't degrade the image.

  • Does FCP7 require Rosetta?

I just purchased a MacPro 6 core Westmere 3.33 GHz. I have FCS2, which goes to FCP 6.0.6.
Just tried to install on OX10.6.4 upgraded to 10.6.5 which came with my machine. Says I need to install Rosetta first before I install FCP.
Do I have to install Rosetta if I upgrade to FCS3 (FCP 7)?
Any problems running FCP 6.0.6 on 10.6.5, assuming I can live without the extras in FCP7?
    Thanks.
    Sharon

FCP6 is Universal Binary - the install disks contain a version that will run on PPC or Intel processors. Rosetta is apparently required by the Installer. After that, Rosetta is not required to run the FCS suite of programs.
FCS3 (FCP7) is Intel only (not Universal Binary) and I would expect the installer to not require Rosetta.

  • Does RTP rely on UDP or TCP?

    Hi,
As the JMF document suggests, RTP relys on UDP. But when I open an RTP session in JMStudio, and deliberately set the port to 80, an error throws out saying unable to create session manager. Since I'm running an http service on 80, my immediate guess is that RTP uses TCP too. Or is it?
Would somebody please explain how JMF's RTP works? how it establishes connection, etc.? Or please point me to the direction to find the answers.
    Thanks

  • Does WPF waits for GPU present to complete?

I'm testing how frequently WPF display can change when I have one window per monitor. My frame rate isn't amazing, and using xperf and GPUView it looks like WPF prepares both windows and then calls "Present packet" on both at the same time, and
waits for both to complete before moving on to send the next frames to the video card. I think my frame rate could have been faster if WPF didn't wait for the present to complete on both displays. When I run two WPF processes, each with one window on
one monitor, the present packets are independent, so parallel processing is more efficient and the frame rate is higher.
Did anyone observe the same behavior? Is there a flag I can set to make the WPF windows of one process more independent?

    Hello Shir Oren,
I'm confused about those monitors, do you mean you have a computer with a few monitors?
Then "When I run two WPF processes" can you briefly introduce it here? Different applications on different monitor? Do you actually mean thread but not process here?
Actually WPF can take advantage of both Hardware and Software Rendering Pipeline, for details please refer to MSDN article:
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb613578(v=vs.110).aspx
I'm not sure whether there is a flag you metioned but I haven't found it at this time. So I recommend you focus on the exist WPF render tiers from here
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms742196(v=vs.110).aspx to consider raise your performance.

  • Why does v31.0 claim that it requires High Perf GPU on my MacBook Pro with Mavericks OS?

According to Activity Monitor, a utility that is part of Mavericks, Thunderbird requires the High Performance GPU on my MacBook Pro - it's the only program I run all the time that does. I think this is a new problem with this version and suspect it is a cause of increased battery drain.

Thank you. I've been through the steps, my memory usage appears to be quite normal. There was a suggestion to try a beta version but the only betas I can find are all older than the current version I have.
I also run Firefox 31.0 (with similar add-ons) and that does not exhibit the GPU problem at all.
The bug appears to be raised here: [https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=689742 https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=689742] . It starts life as an issue on OS X and turns into a fix for Windows. If it is the issue I'm seeing It doesn't fix OS X.

  • LR CC - Does new GPU usage work with multiple GPUs?

    Hello,
I have two nVidia graphics cards (3 GB memory each) in an SLI configuration.  In the spirit of getting something cool and asking for even more, I'm wondering if the new performance feature in LR CC can take advantage of both cards.  For the "Use Graphics Processor" option, only one card is listed.
    Thanks,
    ~Steve

Thank you Sandeep.  I guess I didn't expect that to be available so quickly.
In case anyone else asks this question, the answer is . . .
    Additional Information
The Develop module is the only module that currently leverages the GPU. Processes outside the Develop module are not currently GPU accellerated. For example, the process of merging multiple images to create HDR files or panoramas does not leverage the GPU.
Only the "Main" Lightroom window is accelerated. The "Secondary" window is not accelerated by the GPU.
Leveraging more than one GPU at this time is not currently supported.
