Does FCPx truncate large files in transcoding?

I am importing avi files that average 15 minutes, 3-6GB in size.  After transcoding, most of them have been truncated to 41 seconds in length and their average size is about 215 MB.
Am I doing something wrong?  Is there a maximum file size or length??
I'm having it create optimized media during trancoding...

AVI is not a supported format. You need to convert the media before you bring it into FCP. What you convert to depends on the exact specs of the original media.

Industrial Light pioneers this codec; HDR (high dynamic range) file.  I'm not sure FCPX accepts it natively, so you may need to convert it to Apple ProRes first.  What camera are you using that records exr?  Also see link below:

  • Does FCPX accept video files taken on Galaxy 3S?

    Hello to all,
Can anyone who uses both Galaxy S3 and FCPX tell me?

Video could be imported from an iPhone before the library was copied to an external drive.
The video that was imported before the library was moved could be read before and after the library was moved to an external drive.
Video from the same iPhone cannot be imported into the library once the library had moved ton an external drive.
The problem is that video can no longer be imported into the library that was moved to an external drive. Photos from the same iPhone can be imported and read.

  • Hello , how could i insert some content into a large file?

hello , how could i insert some content in a large file? ----just like a txt editor do.
assume that i have a 6G file(i think it large enough), then i wann insert one ascii character at the begining of the file, does that means:
1> i need create one 6G+1byte new file, then copy all content of the original file following by that addition character?
2> not creat new file, just set original file length to 6G+1byte,then offset all 6G byte by one byte, after all adding my one character?(it seems not some kind of optimization ...)
    what should i do?
Edited by: littleJohnny on Jan 16, 2008 2:03 AM

could some means can set the read hint of 6Gbyte content after my character first read out? ----just let my addition point to the begining of 6G original content ,then the addition character take the place of the file header? ----the inster may be the same....
i just think the already used txt editor seem so fast to process insert, replace .... 2M 10M maybe.... does they doing those operation use Java Type ---String? ------read all contet into memory, then it is easy to regular expression ,relinking read order....-----does it mean large file couldn't against with pattern?
does all ctrl+s shortcut-----rewrite original file with memory relinked order? then large file could not easily manipulate its structure but all structured file is large than plain format...
just teach me some "already used txt editor " trick, thanks very much.

  • OutOfMemory while uploading/downloading a large file

    Hello,
We have recently been experiencing OutOfMemory errors in production. We find that whenver there is reasonable load and some user tries to download a 20MB zip file served from weblogic, the server throws OutOfMemoryError.
How does Weblogic handle large file upload / download request? Is it possible to crash the weblogic server by initiating a huge file upload (in the order of 200MB)?
Will this be kept in memory?
like wise for downloads, what is the maximum size of the file that can be served by weblogic? Is there any memory implication? (other than the response buffer size) Will the entire file be cached in memory by weblogic when a download request gets served?
    Please help!
    Thanks!
    Dheepak.

Hi Dheepak, Are you using a special servlet to download the zip? The default servlet always buffers only buffer_size no of bytes and then flushes it as soon as it exceeds. The default buffer size is around 8k, so you should see multiple flushes of 8k each.
The file is not kept in memory or cached in anyway by the server itself buf I can imagine a custom servlet/filter doing that.
For uploads, WebLogic just creates an inputStream over the underlying socket inputstream and returns it to the user. So again there is no caching of data other than the inter buffers which again arnt more than 8k.
    Hope that helps

  • How long does FCPX 10.0.6 takes to transcode & share a file ?

    Hi there,
Can I know in 10.0.6, for a 5 mins simple video in the timelinw with just video & a few text, how long does 10.0.6 takes to transcode the file after you click share ?
As compared to 10.0.4, I find the new 10.0.6 takes so much longer.
Is that the experience for everyone or is it just me ?
    Thanks

It all depends what the  video format in the timeline is and what you are converting it to.
The particular hard drive it is on or being sent to with relation to the app etc. can also make a significant difference.
    Thanks Ian,
The video format in both 10.0.4 and 10.0.6 are the same. The type & location of the drive are also the same.
Do you find that transcoding it in 10.0.6 took much longer ?
Also, after the transcoding has finished, how do we find out the time it has taken ? (i know if we sent to compressor, it has a statistic of it. But if we were to transcode straight from FCPX, can we find out how long it took ?)
    Thanks

  • When I "share" to DVD the file is transcoded.  When it reaches 66% it starts to "finishing", but the process stops and does not proceed beyond 66%.  When I stop the sharing process I receive the following message "the share operation dvd has failed".

When I "share: to DVD the file is transcoded.  When the sharing process gets to 66%, it changes to "finishing" "CreateDVD:waiting fro create disk to finish.  The sharing process does no go beyond 66%, and when I stop the sharing process, I receive the message "the share DVD operation has failed."
Is this a problem with FCPX or Create DVD?  How can this problem be resolved?

The handshake between FCP and a hidden app called Create Disk wasn't completed.
Try this. Select a short range and Share>DVD. In Output Settings. set it to Hard Drive to save as a disk image. (Save to your Desktop so you can find it.) For menu Background, click the Add button, then cancel. That is often enough to wake up the disk burning part of this process. If it makes a disk image, try a physical disk.

  • If you delete a large file from the mac hard drive does it also remove it from time machine on external hard drive

if you delete a large file from the mac hard drive does it also delete it from time machine on the external hard drive ?

As the others say, no, the backup copy won't be deleted immediately, but it will eventually.
If you want to delete all backups of a selected item, such as for space or security reasons, see #12 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions.

  • Why does the Reduced Size PDF command create larger files?

I have been a happy user of Adobe Acrobat vers. 7 until Adobe ceased the support of that version and I was unable to print and do other activities since my last Mac OS vers.10.6.8 update, so I was forced to upgrade to Adobe's Acrobat's X latest version 10.0.0.  I had hope to be able to produce Adobe Acrobat 3D files but found out later that Adobe does not do that anymore and I would have to buy it as a plugin from Tetra 4D for another $399.00, oh well. I then wanted to reduce the file size of some larger pdfs I had edited.  It took a while to locate the command location, now in File>Save>Reduced SizePDF, once I activated the command on my file it actually increased its size!!  Why did this happen?  Should I continue to use my disabled, Adobe unsupported vers 7 to get the superior performance I once had?  This issue was mentioned in an earlier thread that started out as to where to locate this command but the resultant larger file issue remained unanswered.  Currently unhappy on my purchase.  Will Adobe offer a free upgrade to fix this?

I agree with Peter. Use Pages '09, but keep a document migration strategy present. When you create a Pages document in Pages '09, export it to Word .doc too. Export any current content in Pages v5.2.2, and then stop using it. That means no double-clicked documents.
Pages v5 is not an evolution of Pages '09 — it is an incomplete rewrite, and uses a different, internal document architecture than did Pages '09. This internal architecture is to blame for the export translation bloat into Word's different document architecture. It does not matter whether you type a single character, or multiple pages, you will get about a 500Kb .docx file.
Opening, and resaving this monster .docx file in MS Word in Office for Mac 2011, LibreOffice, or TextEdit will result in a very small .docx footprint.

  • How does Time Machine handle large files?

I'm relatively new at the whole Time Capsule / Time Machine process and have learned that large files (eg aperture library) are backed up each time there is a change and this can lead to the TC filling up quicker than normal.
How does this work with daily and weekly backups?
For example, if my aperture library is, say 1Gb and I import a load of photos from my camera and this goes up to 2Gb. I've learned that I should disable time machine while I'm in Aperture (or at least before 10.6...not sure now). So given I've done that, imported the files to Aperture but want to edit them later and ultimately move them into iPhoto to keep the Aperture album small.
When I turn back on Time Machine, the next hourly backup will know the library has changed and will back it up, this will go on until a day backup has been taken - this deletes the 24 hourly backups? or does it merge them?
If I then do the editing the following week, then export the photos and the library is now back to 1Gb again....backed up hourly/daily/weekly etc what am I left with??
Do I have an original, the 2GB version and the new 1Gb version...ie 4Gb......is there a cunning way I can work to change the files within a week so only one of the changes is in the backup?

The Time Machine panel of System Preferences says this:
    Time Machine keeps
    - Hourly backup for the past 24 hours
    - Daily backups for the past month
    - Weekly backups until your backup disk is full
Each time Time Machine runs it creates what appears to be an entirely new backup set, although it does this in a way that doesn't require it to copy files that have already been copied. So merging isn't necessary. Another effect of how it operates is that each unique version of a file (as opposed to packages of files) only exists on the backup volume once.
According to the contents of my Time Machine backup file, hourly backups are literally kept for 24 hours, not until the next "daily" backup. For a "daily" backup, it seems to keep the oldest "hourly" backup for a day.
If I then do the editing the following week, then export the photos and the library is now back to 1Gb again....backed up hourly/daily/weekly etc what am I left with??

You might be able to exclude those files from being backed up at certain times, but I can't be sure this would result in older copied of those files being retained.

Does SAP XI (PI 7.0) support streaming to support large file/Idoc/Message Structure transfers?

AFAIK, that is possible with flat files, when you use File Content Conversion.

  • Large file on fcpx and trying to export without compressor? want to eventually transfer to dvd?

I have a fairly large file on fcpx and trying to export it without compressor. I tried this and the .mov file was way too large to eventually burn to a dvd. Can someone please help!! I am very new to this program. Do I need compressor? Or when I share>export media is there a setting i can change?

Are you making an authored DVD or a DVD-ROM? If the former, the size of the file doesn't matter only the length of the video.

I am trying to save a large file on Illustrator CS6 and it does not save and instead says "Unknown Error Occurred." What do I do?
The file has 4 artboards with webpage designs. I tried to take two of the artboards, create a separate doc with those two, and save, but the result was the same.
However, I am able to save simpler, smaller files.
I need to not lose these files and I am afraid to quit and restart and lose my unfinished work.
    Any advice?

What happens if you choose this option?

Could be systems logs or some other system file growing.
Use OmniDiskSweeper or DaisyDisk to map what's being used.
