Does Final Cut Pro Studio work on old powerbook?

I'm planning to buy the Final Cut Pro Studio package, but before I want to be sure that it will work fine on my PowerBook.
I have enough Processor (G4 1Ghz) and RAM (1Gb) as apple suggest, but I'm worried about the supported graphics cards listed on the recommendation. My GeForce4 MX graphics cards is not mentioned. and of course I have to upgrade to OS 10.4.x... this is not a problem.
In this moment, from the Final Cut Pro Studio package, I only need to use FCP, DVDSP and Compressor. I have to import about 1 hour SD movie, other short clip, convert to AC3 and Mpeg2 and use DVD Pro to authoring a DVD. I don't need to use a lot of graphic fx with motion or capture in HD format.
Thank you for your suggestion and recommendation!
I hope to be more active in this forum soon!

It worked well enough (but slowly) on mine. But you probably won't be able to install Motion because of your graphics card.

  • Does final cut pro x work on mac mini i5 2.3GHz

Hey everyone I'm a Mac newbie and i just bought this mac mini of course the cheapest one and now im wondering if i would be able to run final cut pro x on it        if i install 16gb of ram someone please help me out if not i may just return it thanks in advance

    short answer: it will
long answer; FCPX does perform well (for my needs), on my less-powerful MacMini C2D/2.26 with 8GB. so, the i5 plus its newer graphic card plus your 16GBs will 'fly'. you can improve performance even more with additional, external harddrives, to keep projects, events and system/app on physical diff. drives.
It's a kind of 'religious war' here on this board btw, the real professionals ("…only and just only  fw800 RAIDS work!"), and hobbyists like Ian and me ("my ol' usb drives support 6-angle-multicam too!") what kind of drives you should use ... finally, size-of-wallet decides

  • Does final cut pro x work on any computers

help am trying to download final cut pro x on my hp window 7 does  it work on hp computers

No & NO on HP PC.
Most Macs built after 2009 should be OK.
Earlier than that your chances  diminish depending on model and personal upgrades.
The App Store will not allow a download on a Mac that is under specs.

The title says it all, I'm afraid to upgrade to Mavericks and have my FCP 7 stop working....

Software / hardware harmony is a tricky business. It really boils down to two strategies.
The first is what I call the lockdown model - which is what you've largely done and is often the model followed by people who MUST have a reliable system to do their work. This involves freezing the system at a known state where the hardware, OS and relevant software all work reliably and you can accomplish your tasks with a minimum of hassle. The upside is you come in, do your job, go home and don't have to think too much about the tool(s). The downside is if something breaks (usually hardware) or you need to change to a new software and it has been a long time (in computer terms) since there was any change, you often need to upgrade/update a LOT of stuff all at once - which is expensive, painful and highly disruptive.
The other model is the "merry go round" model. This is where you are on a gradual upgrade/update path. You wait a few months after new versions of your software come out which gives the early adopters time to identify and sort the issues. At that point you can often update/upgrade with a level of certainty the system will work. The upside of this path is you stay reasonably current with hardware, OS and software and, since you've done this gradually but continuously, the costs are spread out over a longer period of time. The downside is there will be hiccups and the system will need more troubleshootiing if something unforseen in the necessary installation goes bad.
In either path, it is imperative to keep a good working clone of a "known to be good" version of the system (OS & software).
Ian points out a good strategy to start the migration to a new OS. A partition with the new system/software to test that can be booted from your existing system is a time honored protocol.
One thing is certain, the great river of technology is not slowing down and if you make your living swimming in it, you must pay attention to where it's heading. This means trying to stay aware of the trends and thiinking over the horizon about how all that is going to affect your work.
    Good luck,

  • Does final cut pro work on Macbook air.

Does final cut pro work on Macbook air.
I know it works fine on my Macbook Pro, but considering getting an Air for travelling, and like to import and do some basic editing while away.
Used to have a Macbook, and FCP wouldn't load on that.
Understand the Air's limitations on disk size, but only wanting it as a travelling editor.
    Thanks

"Traveling editor" could imply dedicated offlining. Shane, do you think that could work with a low rez ProRes codec?
I don't think anyone has tried to use an AirBook for FCP. Anyone bother to search?

  • If I update to Snow Leopard, will final cut pro still work?

If I update to Snow Leopard, will final cut pro still work? My current version of Final Cut Pro is 6.0.6. Thanks.

Apple is not telling you the Complete story about Lion.
The installer for FCP 6 is Power PC code/ IBM CPU code, which Lion does not support.
FCP 6 is NOT Power PC code, it will run on Lion and Mountain Lion, as I have read on many posts.
    The solution??
Solution condition where FCP 6 installed and upgrading OS to Lion
Do nothing, its already running OK
Solution condition where FCP 6 not installed and OS Lion installed.
Connect a firewire drive to your MAC and install the old OS on it (eg snow leopard) ,
    Reboot to that OS
    Install FCP 6
Reboot to your new OS   (EG Lion)
    Run FCP 6

  • Camera's Compatable with Final Cut Pro Studio 2

So I'm looking at buying a camera and the new final cut pro studio 2. The camera I was looking at getting was the Canon GL2, but Final Cut Studio 2 doesn't list that camera as one that is compatable and they don't really list many that are. I was wondering if the camera they list that work are just recommended ones or if they are the only ones that will work. Also if anyone has any suggestions for a decent camera. I really only want to spend a little over $2000. Thanks
    - Josh -

Apple has long listed the GL1 but not the GL2 but I have no idea why. I have used the GL2 with FCP versions 1,2.3 and 4 and have Studio 2 on order and expect no problems. Using a camera for capture is pretty hard on it so I use an inexpensive mini-dv deck because I much prefer batch capturing everything and doing THAT with a camera (all the start stop and such) is even worse so I suggest a deck. I don't have Studio Pro 2 yet but I am expecting no problems....

  • Final Cut Pro Studio and ProKit 7 conflict

    Hi,
I've been trying to find a solution to a problem I've had with FCP Studio but can't seem to find one. Since running a software upgrade on my Mac Pro 2008 running 10.6.8, I can't seem to get DVD Studio Pro 4, Motion 4 and a few other parts of FCP Studio 7 to open. They crash instantly on opening and the only solution I have found is replacing ProKit 7, in the system, with an older ProKit 5.1. This works but then knocks out the ability to run some newer Apple apps. I'm running an identical system on a MacBook Pro 2011 and everything seems to run perfectly fine on ProKit 7 so wonder why the Mac Pro can't do the same. I've tried installing ProKit 5 and updating up to version 7, and also tried copying a copy of ProKit 7 from the working MacBook Pro system both without success. Does anyone know of any solution to get all my older FCP Studio apps and new Apple apps to run on the latest ProKit 7 on the Mac Pro? Is there perhaps something else in  conflict with the apps?
    Any help gratefully received.
    Alec

    Hi everyone,
Just an update on this problem. I've now resolved it, by luck more then anything!
I was rebuilding another Mac and noticed the exact point the same issue occurred so now know what the cause is, and it's such a simple but strange solution!
During the process of decluttering my system of none essential file (well I thought they were non essential!) I removed a particular file which seems to be needed by the Final Cut Pro Studio  apps. This file is in the root System folder (System/Library/Colorsync/Profiles). Make sure you have "Generic Gray Gamma 2.2 Profile.icc"
in the folder or this will cause DVD Studio Pro, Motion4, CinemaTools and a few other Pro apps to unexpectedly quit at launch.
It was that simple! As soon as it was back in place everything was working with the latest ProKit 7 framework (so know need to downgrade Prokit to version 5 anymore!)
Hope this helps anyone in the same situation!

  • Downgrading from Final Cut Pro Studio to Final Cut Express

Will Final Cut Express let me use the Boris Title 3D Video Generator effect that I now use in Final Cut Pro Studio?
Does it have an outline text video generator effect?
Since I have DVDSP 4.1.2, will I be able to drag my exported non self-contained quicktime movie into DVDSP? I have read I can use iDVD.
I see from the tutorial (http://www.apple.com/finalcutexpress/tutorials/) it does not have the ability to log clips for batch capture later but it does have a project button. Does anyone use that and can share what it does?
I have a Canon DV20 HD camera which I use for DV also. Since I have read that FCE will not read HDV from this camera, has anyone brought DV in using this camera?
Does anyone see any other negatives to downgrading?
I have been using Final Cut Pro from version 1.5 since it did what I needed it to do. Over the years they have added a plethora of packages to it, none of which I use. So why spend 700.00 to upgrade when I can spend 200 to get what I will use?
    Thanks for your input.

    Lots of questions:
"Will Final Cut Express let me use the Boris Title 3D Video Generator effect that I now use in Final Cut Pro Studio?"
    Yes.
"Does it have an outline text video generator effect?"
Yes, but don't use. Use Title 3D.
"Since I have DVDSP 4.1.2, will I be able to drag my exported non self-contained quicktime movie into DVDSP?"
Yes. Or you can use Compressor, which you should have, to encode your video.
"I see from the tutorial (http://www.apple.com/finalcutexpress/tutorials/) it does not have the ability to log clips for batch capture later but it does have a project button. Does anyone use that and can share what it does?"
It allows you to log your material first, selecting the pieces on the tape you want to capture and then going back and letting the machine capture the selected pieces.
"I have a Canon DV20 HD camera which I use for DV also. Since I have read that FCE will not read HDV from this camera, has anyone brought DV in using this camera?"
    Never heard of camera.
"Does anyone see any other negatives to downgrading?"
    What version are you using?

It will likely run FCP but won't run Motion or Color. If the fastest external drive connection you have is FW800 then you'll be somewhat limited in the number of streams of video you can work with at the same time.
Also, it would run better with 4 GB RAM.

  • How do you Chapter Video Podcasts in Final Cut Pro Studio 2

I am in final cut pro studio 2. I have my video setup like I want. I placed Markers and labeled them as chapters. But when I try to export i just get a chapterless video. How on earth do i get this to work. I tried exporting with Compressor and exporting with Quicktime pro. I just want to make a chaptered video podcast why is it so darn hard to do so? I went hunting everywhere on the net and nothing explains just how to do it in Final Cut Pro. Everything is iMovie this iMovie that .... well sorry, but I don't want to use stinking iMovie.
Sorry for venting I'm just really aggravated because I have tried four different things hoping it would work but each export which is two hours of wasted time that I fall more behind.

    Hi Patrick,
My FCP experience is limited - I write software add-ons for it, but I don't edit. I remember this issue coming up before though. QuickTime has the ability to create chapter tracks, but you can't do this from markers in FCP. (I used to do it with the great QuickTime editor in Adobe GoLive.)
The chapter tracks in .mp4 video are similar but different to the QuickTime chapter tracks, so I assume that the FCP markers won't work. Frustrating!
Why don't you try out PodcastMaker free for 30 days: http://www.lemonzdream.com/podcastmaker/ This software is very easy to use and (outside of Garageband) is the easiest way to add chapter tracks to a podcast, and even though it's an extra step, it will help you with the podcasting side of the workflow you'll eventually be faced with.

  • Final Cut Pro Studio 2 Install

Hello I purchased my G4 Dual 1.25 Ghz with 1GB of memory about a year ago. It had installed Final Cut Pro Studio 1 (FCP 5) at the time with all the other programs. Recently after I upgraded my Quicktime to 7.6 My DVD Studio Pro stopped working. After much trying and advice I re-installed my OS Leopard that I purchased about 6 months ago and lost all my serial numbers for all the programs, (FCP, DVD Studio, Soundtrack etc.) So now I would like to purchase Final Cut Pro Studio 2 (educational version) and I am told I will have to have serial numbers for Final Cut Pro Studio 1 because this is an upgrade. How can I install FCP Studio 2 with out any previous serial numbers? Please any help would be greatly appreciated, I work with the elderly and we have several projects we are working on together and I really need to get back up and running. Thank you for any help anyone can give me.

Final Cut Pro Studio 2 (educational version)
EDU versions are full versions (but they can't be upgraded to the next full version)
if you go this route you should be fine

  • Final Cut Pro Studio 5.1.1 and Final Cut Express HD 3.5

    Hi,
I have a client with both of these installed on the same machine (running 10.4.6).
When they try and launch either application, the splash screen comes up, loading various filters, etc. then they get an error message:
"File Error: A file of this name already exists" "OK"
    Clicking "OK" closes the app.
    Any idea:
    1. What the file in question is?
    2. Can it be deleted to let the app run?
    3. Can Final Cut Pro Studio 5.1.1 and Final Cut Express HD 3.5 be used on the same machine?
I'll post this on the Final Cut Express HD 3.5 thread too (but with the order reversed).

What you did was not enough to delete the preferences properly.
This article tells you how. It is for FCE2 but works the same for FCE3 so I assume it is also OK for FCE 3.5:-
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93690
It's simple to do so try it before reinstalling etc. - You should completely uninstall before reinstalling:-
